Hidden treasure! I was so pleasantly surprised to find such a good quality sandwich place in Berks County. They serve Boars Head cold cuts - which are the best. They use amazing bread from Corropolese which just takes their already fresh, packed sandwiches to the next level. This is our 3rd time here and the 2 guys who are running the show are so nice, quick and keep the place super clean. We have had the tuna sandwich- which was fresh and simple, cheesesteaks which were spot on and their tomato sauce tastes like grandma cooked it all day, Italian hoagies and fried chicken sandwiches all perfect. We always get the state fair mushrooms - even my non mushroom eating son loves them. Just a tad on the pricey side but I never mind paying extra for a good quality meal. Since this was my first time here I had to try the two things that I guess they are famous for and are plastered all over the place... The real deal and the Reading fair mushrooms. The real deal was a cold sub sandwich filled with premium meats and cheeses that you could actually taste since it wasn't dripping with oil as you so often find. The big kicker was that everything was sliced super thin. The meats the cheese and yes most importantly the onions! Hand rolled on a nice soft sub roll it's definitely a hit. The mushrooms were terrific also. Not your standard frozen white button mushrooms but these were fresh little Cremini's covered in a super thin salty batter and then deep fried. Oliver's is a blessing to deli lovers- like myself! I branched out from the real deal (which is still one of the best things I've EVER had to eat) and tried the club sub deluxe. AWESOME sandwich! Had the broccoli bites for an appetizer and they are such a fantastic snack! Their quality of food is outstanding and the staff are such nice people! I didn't get the name of the man ringing me out, but he was delightful! In just a few minute, we bonded over soda flavors and love of fairs and carnivals. Every employee I've met have always been so kind and seemingly very happy they were there, which I know isn't likely in most restaurant. I have searched high and low for the Holy Grail of hoagies--the meaty, cheesy, fresh Italian hoagies I enjoyed while growing up in the PA Coal Region. At last, I have found this nearly forgotten flavor at Oliver's Place, a recently opened sandwich shop only about a quarter of a mile from my house. I tried the "Real Deal", that is, their Italian hoagie with the addition of thinly sliced prosciutto and black pepper capicola. The sandwich was packed to the brim with meat, cheese, and fresh veggies, though I had no trouble eating it due to the way it was expertly assembled. Each bite included a little (okay, a lot) of everything. Oliver's has become known for their "Reading Fair" mushrooms, which I haven't had a chance to try yet. They also have AYCE spaghetti on Mondays that is probably worth another visit. All I know: I am in hoagie heaven. Nom nom nom nom.... read more

Can't beat the place for Fresh Food, Cooked properly. Sandwiches clearly the best around. Stopped in a while back while in the area and knew I had to go back for more of what makes the place a great place to eat. Quick service and 60/70s atmosphere where Ford cars and trucks surround you in miniature as wall displays and remind us of automotive styles of the 50s/6os and beyond. Sit and relax, a friendly take yer time eatery. Met a couple township cops ( the good guys), and they love the place too. I'll keep this review simple and to the point, so that it matches what you get with Oliver's. The establishment is a classy throwback to earlier times. You seat yourself, and one of the guys behind the counter will get to you promptly to take your order. If you want a drink, go grab it. If you want some chips, go grab them. Things are tallied up at the end and you pay on your way out. The menu is expansive and has a lot to offer. I've eaten here a handful of times and each meal has been filling. The meals aren't the best, but neither is your mothers cooking but you eat it cause it's good. That's sorta how I view the food here. A lot more domesticated and dumbed down then meals at fancier restaurants. Give old Oliver's Place a shot on a weekend where you've got nowhere to be. read more

I ordered a California chicken cheese steak and a half order of fries and it was delicious! The half order of fries was more than enough. My sandwich was delicious and made perfectly. The chicken was very flavorful and the perfect amount of every ingredient was on the sandwich. The staff was extremely friendly and made sure they got my order correct when I called in. Most places are quick to hang up, but they repeated my order to me and made sure it was correct. My new favorite sandwich shop! read more

My roommate and I decided to swing into this place for take out after hearing from a friend that it was worth the trip. I have to say, they were right! I've had two different cold sandwiches from Oliver's, and both of them were delicious. Fresh ingredients really make for a great sandwich, and their steak fries are tasty. The only complaint I have is that the price is a little steep, but we're making the exception to indulge every once in a while considering the quality. Definitely worth stopping in, and we will be returning. read more
