Great family restaurant in quaint downtown Gloucester. In town from Dallas and stopped in for dinner. The food was very good and the traffic in and out was nonstop. Very affable and competent service from everyone including the owner who stopped by most of the tables to chat. We ordered the surf and turf and a chicken Olivia. Both were very good. We tried to go back for another meal while in town but we just ran out of time. If you try it, get the sweet potato fries and the squash. Best squash I've ever had! read more

We called in our order, and when I arrived to pick it up, the restaurant was pretty busy for a Thursday afternoon. At first glance, it's a rustic family restaurant - beautiful old wood floors, simple seating. We were greeted right when we walked in and directed to sit anywhere. The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed. The menu is balanced between traditional offerings - think mozzarella sticks - to incredibly delicious stuffed mushrooms. Did I mention the rolls? Warm, buttery, garlicky,and so soft!! Side salad is a meal in itself. My husband had the seafood chowder. Creamy, fresh, and bursting with flavors. The blackened rockfish tacos were extraordinary. Apparently, it's never not busy here. My wife and I were traveling and the hotel Clerk recommended this place . They seated us right away even though they were obviously busy on a weeknight. The server explained our options. We ordered.. very disappointed.. overpriced overrated. Maybe there's not a lot to offer in this area. We just left Atlanta, New York and New Haven. Maybe our server was having a bad night, we could tell she was frustrated.. tip your servers people they have a hard job. Had lunch at Olivia's recently. It's bigger inside than it looks! The waitstaff was friendly. We were able to order an appetizer off the dinner menu, which we appreciated. We got the sampler with bacon wrapped scallops, dip with chips and bbq shrimp. Nothing special, not bad. I wouldn't order it again. 3 of us had sandwiches, one turkey club, one fried oyster sandwich and a burger. The burger was good, cooked to order and had good flavor. The person who had the oyster sandwich enjoyed it and it looked very good. My husband got the fried fish and didn't enjoy it. He said the breading wasn't good and he barely ate any of it. I saw someone's salad and it looked pretty good. Our family who lives there say dinner is good. Overall, it's a diner type of restaurant in a smaller town area. I would go back if I wanted a burger or to try something else (maybe that fried oyster sandwich!). read more

The food was great. The service fair had to flag our waitress down for a refill and other than that she never came back to our table but went to other tables. Olivia's in the Village is a local's favorite! It's easy to understand why when you watch how staff and the owner interacts with customers. We were lucky enough to sit in the front room and get a Birds Eye view of the interactions. Customers calling for reservations asking for specific tables and obliged by staff if possible. Reservations highly recommended if you have a large party, or planning to dine on Thursday-Sunday. One customer came in alone and was asked 'the usual?' To which she replied 'yes!' The owner was engaged in a conversation by waved to me, then came over and asked if we were from the area. He listened without rushing off. We are just strangers passing through. The restaurant has three dining rooms, each is sparsely decorated- tables and chairs, large stretched photo canvases from locals on the walls. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast menu is fairly standard, lunch and dinner menu has several unique items- ham and chicken with Alfredo over spaghetti. There's Italian, steaks, chicken, pork chops, seafood, and a 'Taste of Scoot's'' a sister restaurant that serves BBQ. They offer homemade desserts. I really wanted to try the lemon chess pie. Sadly, it was sold out. It's a family recipe and obviously a town favorite! Ask if they have specials. There's not a board and the waitress didn't offer them as an option. It may be one of those 'only the locals know to ask' things. Also, several ordered wine, but we weren't offered, nor did e see a wine list. Again, might be a 'locals know!' Food came out timely. Our waitress was on top of things. We enjoyed experiencing Olivia's In the Village. The restaurant and employees are an asset to the community. read more

Lovely little place in Glocester, VA! Nice ambiance, friendly wait staff. I had the surf and turf and steak was tender, shrimp big and juicy but the real draw was the rolls dripping in garlic butter! Had the pulled pork platter. My sisters had the hamburger, topped with a slice of brisket. We all agreed that the Food was great! Requested crispy fries, which they delivered. Only reason not giving five stars, there is no good place to stand-wait when waiting to be seated. I was really hungry and wanted to sit down to eat, so I opened Yelp. This place was highly rated, so I decided to give it a try. I got the corned beef hash and eggs with a biscuit. Sorry...no photo (told you I was hungry! lol). Anyway, it was great! Service was stellar, food came out fast, and my tummy was satisfied. The coffee was fresh and smooth. While visiting the Daffodil festival in Gloucester, Saturday, April 5th my wife & I dined at Olivia's. Although it was a very busy packed house, Rhonda, our chairperson, provided exceptional, outstanding service. She was courteous, personable, professional, and engaging. Cindy ordered the seafood platter and I loved my blackened chicken garden salad, both of which were hot, fresh and delicious. Came for a Saturday breakfast and were seated pretty fast. The place definitely has a comfortable and clean decor that anyone would feel at home in. The waitresses were all extremely good, friendly and seemed to have been here forever. I had the biscuits and gravy. I was only whelmed. Not over, not under. I wish I had gotten something else as they have a lot of classics. The B&G was just gummy and gooey. I guess I'm a biscuit snob. Oh my gosh, you must stop in for a mouth watering meal! The vintage ambience is charming with original hardwood flooring, ceiling tiles, and other accents. The staff greets you immediately and makes you feel right at home. The menu choices include so many amazing dishes that you will find it hard to decide. Really enjoyed Olivia's. We were able to get in quickly and started with the appetizer combo. Server was great and the rolls are tasty. I got the Seafood Olivia's based on reviews. It was really good and the vegetable of the day was asparagus, so that was a plus. The fried shrimp that my daughter ordered was good and the shrimp are huge. We meet Sunday for a family get together. There was 8 of us so we set up on online reservation. This is not a Hugh location , there is parking in the back and some availability out front. It is very cozy inside. The table was all ready for us when we got there and they waited on us immediately. Just about everyone ordered a different dish. The owner came out and made rounds to all the tables and asked where we were from ,etc. When the food arrived it all looked amazing and tasted even better! Half of us needed take home boxes. Everything was fresh and well prepared and those that had fried food the breading was light . Crabcakes were Hugh!!! Prices were reasonable for the amount you got. I can't wait to go back!!!
