We went to this location awhile ago ( years ago) to be exact. The waiter was so sick, sniffing wiping his nose as he was trying to take our order. I almost got up and left but....Just went back today for lunch and found out they had just reopened under new management, what a difference. The food was out of this world, the waiter was top notch and never missed a beat in checking to make sure everything was okay. My wife & I almost licked our pates clean to savor every morsel of food. And the desert we had was simply amazing. We are so pleased to have given this location a 2nd chance. I 100% would recommend Center Street Grill for your next outing. I don't really know how to rate the evening. The bartender was super friendly, and the drink service for MY group was on point. The whole staff was friendly actually. The food was, fine at best. Of the four of us, not one of us ate everything on our plate. Aside from the Philly rolls, everything else was meh at best. And even the Philly rolls were served in a manner where the stuff inside of them was just dumped out of them onto the plate, or upside down, so there was no way to pick them up without the stuff falling out. The calamari breading was moist and falling off before you touched it. The Bacon Mac and Cheese was the soupiest Mac and cheese I've ever had, literally dripped like water. The caramelized peaches on the pork chop were not remotely caramelized. Just, warm peaches. And the pecan crust was nowhere to be found. The cook itself on the porkchop was good. Moist and done throughout. I can't speak to what the other folks had, but no one was over the moon about their order. The ambiance was also tricky, as it felt like a super local spot, where the staff and their regular customers were eating food that wasn't available on the menu, out in the open in front of other customers. And my last note, was when a bartender made a bunch of espresso martinis, and wasn't sure if she put coffee or tea in them, and a guy from the back came out and suggested just "adding Baileys to it then". Went there for a work event. Not sure if the event meals are different when the menu ones. Ordered the herb chicken and it was 3 pieces about the size of chicken nuggets (might have been Cornish hens) but it also was so salty. Others had the steak or salmon which they said was good. My mom, GF and I had burgers there on 11 Apr 23. "Unimpressed" is probably the best word for the experience. The burger patties were small, the fries were basically McDonald's fries, and not even very warm, and the plates definitely sat under a warmer for several minutes before they were brought out. It wasn't exactly "bad", so I'll say this: There's plenty of great restaurants in Williamsburg where you can get a good burger, served quickly at a reasonable price. Since the weather cooperated, we sat outside and people watched. Quiet area. Lots of brick buildings. Live band was playing 70s music a block away at another restaurant. After a crab dip appetizer (smooth and blessedly NOT overly salty), we devoured the salmon cake salad (salmon cakes were seasoned nicely with red onions) and the mahi mahi BLT (wonderful combination!) with three cheese and bacon grits (unremarkable and bland) instead of fries. The key lime pie and apple pie were insanely good. We especially liked the sea of warm caramel surrounding the apple pie. Service was excellent and attentive, and we enjoyed every bite. read more

We booked a private room for a family reunion of 25 people. Think they did a really nice job with it. Booking was easy peasy. I booked about six months in advance. Though I called multiple times to confirm, they always had the reservation. I was really happy with their service. First we were all really pleased with the room. It had lots of windows and was bright and cheery. When we arrived they had the room ready and the tables set for us. They even had some won ton bruschetta appetizers set out for us. I wasn't too fond of them but that's not really here or there. Based on generation of family members we needed to rearrange the table settings a bit and they were so kind about moving everything around. Nothing was a problem for them and everything was done and served with a smile. The meal service was a bit on the slow side but when 25 people are ordering off the menu you can't expect speedy. I thought both the appetizers and the mains to be tasty. I really enjoyed my crab cakes. In the end they were kind to take a group photo of us. A few of us decided to hang in bar after the main event. They had some live music but they seemed to take more break than performance. We had some drinks, of course. I chose a chocolate martini to cap off the night. It was very good and started a trend so that pretty much everyone ended up ordering one! A great end to the evening. read more

My husband was very sweet and planned a big dinner to celebrate my graduation and they were very easy to work with. They didn't have a minimum and allowed us to have the space for the whole evening. Everyone could order from the menu and pay separately. They also were very accommodating for any food allergies In our group. Food was great and the service was also really good. My husband had dinner last night with friends at the Center Street Grill. He ordered soup from the menu. The server brought the soup and crackers out to him. The server offered him fresh ground pepper on the soup. He started eating the soup after the server ground the pepper over the top. He found a screw in the soup. He immediately brought it to the attention of the owner who told him that was to bad. The owner never offered to bring him a fresh bowl of soup to replace the one with the screw in it which he could no longer eat. He was lucky he didn't swallow the screw. The restaurant is responsible for maintaining the restaurant equipment. Shame on the owner for this negligence. Also, the soup crackers were stale. . read more

Wow, wow, wow, wow........did I say wow yet?? This is a very nice, classy, upscale, impress a date, leisurely supper spot that was a real find. Its an open kitchen concept with an edgy modern feel. Our server was really polite and on point! At first, they brought a complimentary appitizer...a wonton skin covered in a garden fresh salsa/relish. Its a win. Bread lover? Let me tell you about the homemade rolls....yeasty soft goodness with real butter. This is just the warm-up. Since we were going to walk Colonial Williamsburg after dinner, we opted for sandwiches....but the braised pork shank that went past our table is the stuff of legends and I will be back for that!! I had the shrimp po'boy. It was fantastic! A homemade roll (who makes the bread? I am positive they are my lost soul mate!) With 10 shrimp, diced tomato, lettuce, and a spicey roumalade. Heaven. My companions meals were just as delicious and the shrimp alfreado (made by request) was REALLY good. The fries were crisp and seasoned. but wait, dessert you say?? Ah yes, convincing ourselves the added calories would be walked off, we decided we need dessert. Good call. They had the carmel apple creme brulee and it was good. I being an over-achiever, had the bananas foster bread pudding with carmel sauce. Oh damn. it was soooo good it made you want to lick the plate....I didnt but boy did I think about it. Tonight, we proved you can do a walking tour while in a food coma.....okay we were more zombie like....but we did it! Center Street Grill is one of our all time favorites! Their food is consistently delicious and well prepared, and their servers are friendly and attentive. Lately, we have really been enjoying their Cubano and French Dip sandwiches served with exceptionally good fries. Center Street is one of the few restaurants where we dine inside--the tables are spaced far enough apart to feel comfortable and safe during these days of Covid. They also have outside seating, and their prices are very reasonable. We take family and friends there and recommend it highly!!! read more

Everything about this restaurant is underwhelming. The decor is dated. The food was bland. My wife's burger had obviously been sitting for a while and my fried fish was soft and soggy. Our waitress appeared to be the only one working for the entire restaurant and bar; this is no fault of hers. Some regulars sitting on the patio let their off leash dog into the dining area repeatedly. Between that and the geriatric crowd open mouth coughing, I cannot recommend this restaurant. read more

We had a memorial dinner for my father on 4/23, for 32 people and Jacx, the manager and Mathew were excellent. This on a Saturday night yet our food was prepared perfectly (choice of steak, salmon, chicken and vegetarian) and served in a very timely manner. The room was very private, large enough for cocktails and "mingling" before dinner. They also provided an overhead screen for a slide show we had (we provided the power point projector). The entire affair was handled with dignity and aplomb. I highly recommend them for any medium sized gathering. Thanks again Jacx and Matt. read more

I went to CSG recently while I was playing pool down the street and I learned that one of the owners is from Hawaii. I went to the lounge area for some appetizers and drinks. Also I had some tasties from the oyster bar. I looked at the menu and it had some dishes that I was eager to try on my next visit! Nice decor, outdoor seating, banquet room. open kitchen. A pretty cool place. Hopefully the whole retail area will add more stores and restaurants so that more people will come visit. read more

Had a birthday party for my Mom here. Staff were great, had us in a private room. Everything was set up 30 minutes early, we hadn't asked for but they had a table in the corner for presents and the cake. They checked in with myself as the organizer, made sure they knew who the birthday girl was and brought a little appetizer for the table. As guests arrived they filled their water glass and took drink orders right away. Despite it being a busy night and our waiters having tables in the dining room we were never neglected. They provided cake candles, and cut and served the birthday cake we brought and boxed the leftover cake for us. Would definately use again. read more

Had dinner there there last night. Food was delicious, but it took 45 minutes for our orders to be taken and an 1 hour and 45 minutes to be served. Never again. I don't think this was a case of COVID under staffing. Yes, our waitress was working her butt off. But we came in at 5:30 to a mostly empty restaurant, the restaurant filled, White customers ordered, got their food ate and left. The owner's response was a pack of lies. First, there was no party of twenty ahead of us - there were two people ahead of us when we arrived. We were not quoted a 20 minute wait - it was a 10-15 minute wait, and we were not asked to have a drink at the bar, we decided that on our own. Second, she did not come to seat us - after at least a 20 minute wait, the bartender led us back to hostess station and called to the owner in the back to get us a table. She seemed annoyed at that, saying she was "coming to get us" - but there was no sign of that. (Christmas is coming, too...) As to the water splashing, yes, the waitress did pick up an ice cube, but did not even try to wipe up the water all over the table. And that was the last we saw of her. As to the comment about the other waitress supposedly saying "we were mean," how could we be mean to someone we had no interaction with? (In the owner's own words, she wasn't our waitress so she did not approach us.) I cannot speak for everyone else who was there that evening, but I do know that there was a family seated at the table next to us when we arrived, and their food did not arrive until we were fed up with the wait. Aside from the owner, we saw a total of two waitstaff working that evening (we had a view of the door from the kitchen) - totally insufficient for the packed house the owner claimed. Instead of acknowledging that they were short-staffed (and overwhelmed) that evening, the owner responded by attacking us. That tells you all you need to know. read more

In town to have brunch with DH's long lost friend and his family. They enjoy this place and recommended we meet there. The Sunday Brunch menu offers a selection of traditional brunch choices as well as their full menu. Our party was evenly split on what we wanted to order. DH and I decided to split a dozen oysters from the raw bar to start, even if it was $29 for the dozen. We each ordered a brunch item for our meal. The oysters were big sized and looked delicious. But they had not been properly shucked. I prefer it when they cut the muscle on the bottom shell, making it easier to slide it out of the shell to eat. But in any case, they were quickly devoured. For our brunch meals, I had the crab cake Benedict. DH ordered the lox bagel sandwich. My Benedict was served with a side of fruit and potatoes. It was fine. I would have enjoyed a bit more of a crust on the crab cakes though. A bit soft. DH said his meal was "fine" as well. It looked like it came with a number of good things, such as red onions and capers. The service was OK as well. The server was friendly and reasonably attentive. But she did let the oyster shells sit in the table way too long. One nice thing was that our friends had small children with them and CSG let Mom create an a la carte breakfast for the kids. So I appreciate that flexibility. I certainly did not dislike this place. 2.5 stars would be more like it. But there are probably lots of other places I would check out next time I am back in the area. read more

One thing I will say about this place was that the service was really stellar. Shelly did an awesome job waiting on our larger group. The location of this restaurant is nice as well being in a shopping area surrounded by other businesses. The food, well the food was just ok. It wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing either. I got 2 crab cakes and mixed veggies. The crab cake was good and was pure crab meet with no fillers but the flavor was kind of eh.... I'd give this place another shot though. read more

If I could leave 0 stars I would. First we arrived and two parties were in front of us. We decided to go to the bar to wait. The bartender was the only one that treated us well. It took 20 minutes and then the bartender went into the dining room and told them to get us a table. When we did finally get to a table the waitress came over dropped two crackers on the table and then spilled ice water all over the table. Did not come back to clean up. We waited at least another 15 minutes to order, within that time a waitress placed food on a table next to us and did not even say a word to us. That was it. I had a really lovely Sunday brunch here with my mom yesterday. Our server was friendly, fast and knowledgeable of the menu and specials. The food, while not in huge portions, was fresh and delicious. We both had omelets. I had the Atlantic, which was made with smoked salmon and avocados. The salmon was plentiful and the omelet was light and fluffy. It was served with hash browns, which were good. They were more like home fries, which was fine by me, and were prepared with peppers and onions that provided some flavor. The omelet was drizzled with a tasty sriracha aioli. My mom had the omelet that was on special; it was made with ham, a healthy portion of arugula and heirloom tomatoes. They were very accommodating with my mom's diet and replaced two of the eggs with egg whites. They also allowed her to sub fresh fruit for hash browns and did not upcharge. Prices are a bit higher on brunch items than you'll find at one of the pancake houses or diners in town, but the food and service are superior. Each of our omelets were a bit over $10 and I felt like this was a good value for what we were served. While the atmosphere is bright and somewhat fancy, the chairs are a tad on the older/tacky side and could use some modernization. It looks like they have a lot of nice specials during the week, including burger night on Mondays. read more

So I can't say I reviewed their meals much here but my husband and I stopped in before a movie to grab dessert. We figured it would be fairly fast since I ordered a piece of cake and he ordered some ice cream. It took 20-25 minutes just for us to get so we were rushing out to the movie and scarfing down our dessert. Their staff was very friendly but extremely slow. They weren't very busy in the dining area so we were pretty confused. The dessert was average. Not terrible but not exceptional. The atmosphere is decent and modern. read more

My boyfriend and I arrived for dinner around 8 this evening and was greeted immediately and sat promptly but unfortunately that's where the great service ended. Our waitress was blatantly rude and full of attitude. She did not make us feel welcomed so we appeased her and left. I was surprised by this because I previously always had great service as well as great food here. I would recommend eating here because they do have have great food and most people working here are friendly and welcoming but if you get a waitress with black hair and tattoos I would suggest requesting a different waitress! read more

A group of us went to Center St., Grill for their Burger Night. While the restaurant wasn't full and they seemed to have a cadre of servers, it took us 45 minutes to get our orders. The food was good and the meat was cooked the way we asked. The most positive things about the evening were the servers who worked very hard throughout the evening and the quality of the food. The negative things were the time it took to get our food, and the fact that when we got our bills, we were charged separately for onions, pickles, and cheese on a burger. We would rather have seen a dollar more added to the price of the specialty burger then to be "nickeled and dimed" like we were. The server did take a dollar off of each of our bills, but we still thought that that shouldn't have happened in the first place. I would return to give the restaurant another try but my friends would not. read more

I've walked by this place numerous times and there are always tons of happy looking people inside. I knew there had to be something about it that was special, turns out there is nothing special about it. My husband and I went on a Friday night and if I could describe the décor, I would describe it as "cold cafeteria chic." I felt like I was eating in one of those Southern cafeterias of yesteryear or a workplace cafeteria. Our server was friendly. She brought us those complimentary wontons with the pico de gallo on top. I watched her spoon the pico de gallo on top and then rake the remainder that was on the spoon off with her fingers and on to the wontons before she brought them to us. I lost my appetite for those. The food itself is not bad but it is not worth the price you pay. I had a fried oyster po boy which was served on a less than 6 in. sandwich roll with maybe 5 small fried oysters, lettuce, tomato, and remoulade. It was a very sad sandwich for the price I paid for it. Chefs in New Orleans are crying over this rendition of a po' boy. The fries were crispy, they were good. My husband also had a saucy, overpriced bbq sandwich with fries. Again, he commented the fries were good. The sandwich was meh. Given our overall experience, we passed on dessert. The food is okay. The price for food is ridiculous considering both the quality and quantity of what you receive. read more
