Think Twice Before Supporting Zettler Hardware: No Employee Deserves Public Humiliation My family and I have shopped at Zettler Hardware in Pickerington for the entire 11 years we've lived here. We've always believed in supporting local businesses because it's convenient, well-stocked, and the employees have consistently been friendly, helpful, and kind. Until now, we've never had a single complaint. Last week, we purchased an item that had been marked with the wrong price. The cashier, who appeared to be fairly new, was doing her best to correct the mistake. While she was trying to figure it out, the owner walked up. Instead of helping her or quietly showing her what to do, he began criticizing and embarrassing her in front of us and everyone else standing in line. She remained polite and professional the entire time, even saying she would appreciate more training. Rather than encouraging her, he continued telling her he couldn't have her working the front if she didn't know what she was doing. During our conversation, the owner stated, "I'm the owner." I replied that maybe he should teach her. He responded, "I don't know how to do it. I just sign the checks." I told him that, in my opinion, an owner should know the jobs they're asking their employees to do. If your staff doesn't show up one day, you should be capable of running your own business. More importantly, leadership is about teaching people--not humiliating them in front of customers. What made the situation even worse was that while I was speaking to him, he simply walked away in the middle of the conversation. As he walked away, he continued making comments to the cashier about needing more training instead of treating her with respect. That was incredibly rude--not only to his employee, but to us as customers. The cashier showed far more professionalism than the person who owned the business. I genuinely felt sorry for her. This experience completely changed my opinion of Zettler Hardware. I can overlook a pricing mistake. I cannot overlook an owner publicly belittling an employee, dismissing a customer's concerns by walking away mid-conversation, and then continuing to criticize his employee afterward. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. Based on what I personally witnessed, I will not be returning, and I hope the owner reflects on the example he's setting for both his employees and his customers. read more

Hot mess of a store but always find some good deals. Located at 3811 S High St in Columbus, Ohio in an old strip mall. There is plenty of parking the shared lot with lots of south side business in this are. Fun to walk around and see what you can find at decent prices. Note that the restrooms are broke and have been for a while. Sounds like they just don't want to say no public restrooms. Take a look around and explore. I like to get foam hand soap, toothbrushes, and other household items and random finds. No telling what you might discover that you didn't know you needed but for the price couldn't pass up. read more

Standard Ollie's. I went in with the hope of finding a couple things, didn't find all but did see a phone cable I hope works. But it's always hit or miss here. Big selection, but best to go in and just look around at all the random stuff. I did find everything bagel popcorn that way, so I'll be trying that later. My husband and I went to Ollie's to purchase an item. The manager said he had gotten in 4 and the sale didn't start until tomorrow. He told us to come back when they opened in the morning. When my husband got there he was told they never got any in. So the day before he just outright lied. My husband had to go to the next town to get the item. We wasted so much gas because of this man's lie. I complained to customer service. They said they were sorry. I asked if we could have a gift card to make up for the gas we wasted. She said no. They didn't care or take responsibility. We are seniors and we can't afford to waste gas because of a lie. They definitely don't care about their customers. Never sure what you will find here. They seem to buy close outs / discontinued items in bulk and pass the savings on to you. They have a HUGE selection of cool books which my wife loves. They have household items, groceries, home improvement items, automobile items as well sporting goods. I have found tons of great deals here but beware you will probably leave with more than you originally went in for if you look at everything in the store! read more

Ollies Bargain Outlet, a great place to save money. At least I did at the one on South High St. I didn't spend a dime. Why? Because there was only one cashier open at 2:00 pm on a Wednesday afternoon. I didn't see any other employees in the store....really! I waited a few minutes at the end of the line of 5 people and never heard a call for assistance or anything. I had to get to work, so I didn't have time to wait for a solo cashier in a big box store, so I set my stuff down (about $80 worth) and headed for the door. Guess what I found outside? 4 employees smoking next to the exit door. Three women and one guy. Can you believe it? Where was the manager? Was the manager one of the people on break? I don't know, and I don't care. I sure as hell won't be going back again. Definitely a one star business to avoid... read more

One of my favorite stores to shop for my business. I have an online resale business and Ollie's always has great deals for me to pass on! Tony and the staff here are great! I live in Dublin and I come here about 3 times a week. The staff here is always helpful, and the store is always in order. A few times I've had more than one basket and someone has started restocking it understandable of you saw one of my baskets. But I shop at Ollie's literally all across the country and Tony and his crew are my favorite! Keep up the great work! read more

This was my first experience in an Ollie's. Lots of stuff - kitchen items, bathroom, cleaning, rugs - and the list goes on. I would describe it as a mix between Big Lots meets Walmart. I meandered thru the store with the purpose of finding a kitchen shelving unit. I did find a metal one, but I thought the cost was rather high, and decided to keep searching. I was able to find a few hand towels to add to my collection, however! The check-out clerk was very polite, when I asked her about the "rules" decreeing if/when an item gets discounted even more. She informed me best she could - and a polite tone of voice. I see no reason why I wouldn't return here if I'm looking for something home-wise. read more

I go to Ollies for my body wash and shampoo of they have what I'm wanting. That doesn't always happen but 90% of the time they will have something that I can use. There are a lot of great deals but you really do have to take your time and look. I haven't found any great deals on pots or pans that's for sure. The same stuff sits there for months and months and still no cheaper than when it first came on the floor. So pretty much the price they put, will stay the very same price they put. Doesn't seem to matter if it's not selling either. This store is very clean but staff can be hard to find if you really need something our just have a question. Check out lines can get long, unless there just happens to be a manager standing around, then she might call for someone to come help. But, that's either here nor there in my experiences there. The book department is really good in my opinion. I've bought my kIds quite a few different books from there. They also have lots of coffee table books. And if you need one of those, "Dummies" books, this id's the place bc they have a entire wall of different topics. Basically, if you like to look for the deal and know prices of things else where, then you just might find a few things for agood price here! If you don't know prices on things like laundry soap or paper towels, I would definitely go down the parking lot and check Kroger bc they will most likely be cheaper or even on sale there for the very same thing. First: I loves me some Ollie's. Their slogan is "good stuff cheap". What's there to dislike about that slogan? Nothing. That's what. Also they have free coffee* for you to sip whilst shopping. More stores need to do that. Second: For those that don't know, Ollie's is a chain retailer that buys discontinued, damaged, or bulk items from suppliers or stores that are closing down. That results in you getting some super low prices. We're talking a full patio grill for a hundred bucks type of cheap. There's unquestionably screws missing from it, one of the legs is probably broken and the paint smells like North Korean labor camps but...a deal's a deal, ya know? Third: This Ollie's has taken the "cheap" thing to a level that is either a brilliant attempt at social commentary or to a level of cheap that's almost identical to some sentient form of despair. As if "Despair" became such a powerful emotion that we, as a people, wished it into a physical manifestation, it became a tyrant--destroying any and all naysayers in its path---and its scepter was made out of bargains. The reason this Ollie's deserves one star is because I sincerely think that they buy the discontinued, damaged, or bulk items from other Ollie's stores. So what you're left with is the rejects from the reject store. This store sells "irregular" socks that aren't marketed that way. Meaning one sock is significantly larger than the other and you don't know until you open the package. The vast majority of the books either have pages missing, major misspellings, or are just printed wrong (I once found a Neil Degrasse Tyson book there. Was super excited to get it home and start reading. Only to find that about half the pages were inserted upside-down. How--how does that even happen?). Fourth: As other reviews have mentioned, the employees here are not the best. I work retail as well so I truly understand some of the looks of hopelessness on their faces but there's a difference between your eyes saying "please kill me" while you're doing your job and just straight up not doing your job at all. I've never seen more than one register open at any given time. That's not to say one person working the register. I mean one light on and no employee's to be found. They eventually wander near you, give you a scan to decide if you're worth their time and, depending on what their scan concluded, either check you out silently and slowly like a sloth trying to commit a B&E OR just go back to their snacking on the impulse buy shelves some more, leaving you to contemplate the concept of time and if you'll ever get the opportunity to get any of it back until another employee shuffles over to start the whole process again. *As you would expect, the coffee at most Ollie's isn't very good. It's usually burned and weaker than a cup of floral tea but beggars can't be choosers and such. They offer free coffee so complaining about it seems super petty. This Ollie's coffee however is either nonexistent (just straight up missing. Coffee ring where the pot is suppose to be and all. There's a lot of bums in the area so I guess I get it) or the area is so destroyed (they usually have a claims shelf RIGHT beside it. Why would you do that?) that you walk away covered in that sticky, dusty, oily tar that only an unkempt counter-top is capable of producing. If you're looking for discounted products or don't mind slightly damaged products, I highly recommend the Ohio Thrift Store within the same shopping center. They have a better selection, better employees and higher quality items. read more

Ollie's is like Big Lots but nicer IMHO. They have coffee on all the time and it's free. If you see something when you are in there....get it. Don't wait. It will be gone the next week. Personally I don't care that much about some of the things that I would with other places because it's not those other places. You go here to get a deal. Nothing more. Nothing less. The only reason I am giving Ollie's one star is because I can't give none. The south side store has got to be the worst run store in town. I use to go there frequently & loved it. However the last 3 times I have been there, I have walked out angry. So I have finally learned from my mistake and will never go again. The problem is POOR MANAGEMENT! They never have enough cashiers. I was there Saturday and when I went to check out, there was 1 cashier and they were at least 10 people deep. Despite what "Steve" says that you get what you pay for so beware...there is no reason to beware. A great selection of books, office supplies, coffee, pots and pans carpets, some food, candles. I think it is a great place to shop for any occasion. The store staff is great! They are knowledgeable where things are located, and helpful to find anything you want. It reminds me of the old Odd Lots...except when they became Big Lots they were more akin to Kmart. Ollies is a place to find great bargains. Some things might not be brand names and may have a blemish but if it's a rug who cares you're going to wipe your feet on it.
