Lots and lots and LOTS of books! I spent a long time in there, especially considering I was on vacation. Not all of the books are good prices, but they do buy books, which I like. It took me a while to figure out the system, but I did end up buying 3 used paperbacks by the late Maeve Binchy that I hadn't seen before, and that made me happy. The staff seemed very nice, and they were busy with customers who were selling books and buying books, as well as stocking books. I'm glad I stopped in. read more

I absolutely love this store (all locations), the employees, the finds, all of it! My only critique is that, on three occasions, once here and twice at the Lane Ave. location, I've purchased antique books which had the publication year listed on the sale tag, only to find later that they were actually reprints. So, if you're a collector, double check before buying! read more

This was a recent discovery after the location on Lane Ave sadly closed. I have never sold any books here, but have purchased a few times. I can say the prices really beat retail or Amazon prices. The inventory is generally excellent for fiction books, except that they don't always have the latest releases in stock. I think those sell fast or they have limited copies. They also sell all other genres - mystery, cooking, non fiction, romance, children's, etc. They also have music, calendars and misc gifts. Plenty of free parking and several restaurants in the same shopping plaza if you want a (pre) or post shopping meal. read more

This location should be called triple price books and music. They price their music using the high end value on discogs and it's actually sad. Nobody is paying 14 dollars for a used and beat up tears for fears cd smh. Avoid this location at all costs unless you want to overpay for everything. read more

Came in on a Monday afternoon and there were quite a number of people browsing for books and other items. They have a lot of markers on the floor to help with social distancing and all the employees were wearing their masks correctly. I came in to sell some DVDs and books that have been sitting in boxes for longer than I would like to admit. I was offered $8.75 for the 11 items I had and was pretty happy as I was given a much lower offer from FYE. The buying area is on the left hand side of the store and is visible when on first walk in. They will take your items and ask for a phone number and a photo ID. You can browse around the store while you look through your items and determine their offer. It took about 10 minutes and when they are ready to review the items with you they will call you to the desk over the PA. You will sign a slip confirming the purchase and then head over to the register when they will cash out their purchase. Overall super easy to sell here and they buy items from open until closing! read more

This is a nice location in the Carriage Park Place shopping center, so one of its major incentives is the convenience if you are already doing something else in the area - there are a lot of restaurants, shopping, and a movie theater nearby. It is a decent sized store with a good selection of books, puzzles, games, the half pint kids area, Funko pops and other little collectibles, and the like. As others have mentioned, selling isn't the best at HPB, but I wanted to move some stuff along and was willing to get a quote from them. They're friendly and efficient about getting back to you, and I enjoyed browsing the selection while I waited. I definitely leave happier as a buyer than a seller, though! This is such a great little book store with lots of good new and used book options. My daughter and I go there at least once a month to look for new book and check out their children book section. They have a nice little children section with a table for kids to sit and enjoy a book. We also love browsing the clearance section for good finds. This store has a range of items from thank you cards to magazines, to good old books. I like to head here when I am looking for a birthday or holiday gift. They have games and toys as well. read more

I usually go the the Westerville locaton. The staff is friendly and service is good. There is a large seke tion generally, but the Art section could be better for my interests. Most books are priced fairly at half price, but I wish they had more sales...or even flash sales. Sometimes the books are so expensive, the half price is not realky a bargain for my budget. read more

This is still my favorite Half Price Books location after all these years. It has an open feeling, a single room with high ceilings and large windows letting in lots of natural light. Some of the other locations are long and winding, and I realize sometimes people want the feeling of "adventure" when they shop. Me? I just want stacks to browse, in logical order. They offer books, greeting cards, audio and video items, and lots of random stuff. But I find that where HPB shines is it's very reasonable prices on commodity books, and even special items. How reasonable? Seemingly always better than prices on eBay or Amazon, even for special editions. This is -the- place for bargain hunters. read more

I've been a regular customer in the past, love the selection and layout. On my last visit, I decided to sell some of my collection. Brought in 8 books and 4 DVDs, all in excellent condition and several hard-to-find. They offer me a measly $2.00. Found out later they put a price of $19.99 on one of the DVDs. You never know what you'll find at Half Price Books. Tonight I saw a Buck Rogers board game, 30 Rock Season 2 on clearance for $7.99 and a buy back counter covered with stacks of books 2 feet high. Prices on TV Shows and CDs are decent. Prices were comparable to what I saw down the street at Walmart. Book shelves are clearly marked with genre for easy browsing. read more

Surely I've reviewed this already. It used to be pretty close to me and I went all the time; I've been a few times in following years. It's big, and packed full of books (and a few games, videos, toys.) Pick an interest and they have books to sate it. I am always able to find a few for me, and Xmas gifts galore. Sign up for their emails and get occasional coupons. Service has always been good. You don't get much if you sell your books, but hey, it's a nice way to clear some shelves- or just donate them to a library or hospital. read more

I've got love for all Half Price books location but this is probably my least favorite one. Nonetheless, it is still awesome and the one closest to home. All locations have a great staff, not one person works here who isn't super nice and helpful. I can't get past magazines for 50 cent each, how can you beat that? My son loves the books and my husband stocks up on CD's, none over $5. Always a great way to kill some time and we come here at least once a week. read more

I can (and do) walk here frequently from my home. I can get books at WELL less than half price. Their CD selection is small, but I have found a few gems. Today's 5-star? A damned near mint copy of the Babbo Cookbook for $5.55 and the slipcase cover version of Led Zeppelin's In Through the Out Door for $6. Friendly staff, easy parking, near the cheap theater and Wal-Mart. No complaints. read more

OK, yes I am a nerd/geek whatever you want to call me. I love books. I finally lost the battle after I went in for the third time in two days. I was trying to be so good ... I only have carry-ons for the flight home, hence limited space. But I can resist, there is only so many times (the third time was the breaking point this time) that books I desire can be placed in my line of vision not leave (purchased of course) with me. This store has newer (but not brand spanking new) books, used books, DVD, VHS, vinyl, comics (although not protected -- yes, I still have a comic collection at my parents' house), games, etc. Thankfully, I was pulled out before I would have to ship books home to myself. They had a great selection of used paperbacks, a great poetry and Shakespeare section. You might not be able to find the new releases here, but it you wait a month or two you can find them half price. So the goal for tomorrow, avoid purchasing new books (easy if I don't visit the store again) and pack my 8 books (I must admit 3 came from LA with me) in my carry-on. Don't come here if you have a love of books, it will be hard to walk out without a great bargain. read more

Depending on what you are going for (buying/selling), they can be great, or they can be awful Half-price Books is basically "BookStop" the GameStop for books (and movies, music, and occasionally games) If you are going to buy, they are awesome, great selection, fair prices, any genre you can think of, something for everyone, you are bound to leave with at least something interesting If you are going to sell, go elsewhere... Now listen, I get it, they got to make a profit, they can't sell it for the same price they bought it, same goes for other places like GameStop, GadgetEase, Play it Again Sports, Plato's Closet, pawn shops, etc., they buy it from you for what should be a fair asking price (after checking the items first of course), decide a usually fair used price for the items, allowing some headroom to make (what should be) a fair profit, then sell them for a fair, sometimes amazing, price The problem is (and same goes for some of the other places I mentioned earlier), they check the items and decide what THEY think is a fair asking price is, which most of time time, isn't fair at all A good example of this is the last time I went to try to sell a box full of books I had (of decent quality, most of them hardback), just for an idea of how many books I had, I needed help just walking up to the door, the box was HEAVY (at least 30~35 books), and like I said, they were decent/fair quality books, they could fetch around $10~20 on one book alone, and maybe $5 for some others... Fairly I would have left satisfied with maybe $20 for all of them, I could part with them for around $10, I would even understand if they only gave me $5 (even though they were worth more than that, even with fair profit), the highest they were willing to pay me was $2... For EVERYTHING, they could EASILY make $50~100 on those books (and to be honest, if I did give them the books, I bet they would sell them for that) So for MY books, that I am SELLING them, they are only willing to pay $2, yet turn around and make nearly $50~100 (total, not per book of course), a $48~98 PROFIT, while I walk away with $2... TWO DOLLARS!!!!!! I sold maybe 4 cheap books for maybe a few cents and left with the rest of my books, it's more profitable recycling aluminum cans, I would have been better off just dumping the books off at a Goodwill, and at that rate, I would have just sold them on eBay to begin with read more

This seems to be the undiscovered gem of the Half Price Books Columbus empire. It's never crowded, not even in peak frantic-Christmas-shopping-season, but the selection is huge. I really miss this store, even though I now live in the town with the biggest bookstore in the world. One more thing: did you know that there's a bargain theater in the same shopping strip? When I lived in Ohio, my family used to while away many a Saturday at Carriage Place, spending an hour or two at Half Price Books and catching a 50 cent movie. I've heard it's more like $2.50 now, but $2.50 is still great. read more

As a retail company, Half Price Books has it together. I have long loved Half Price for its selection, price, and people. The clerks working there are smart, pleasant, and likeable--have been for years--which is a credit to the management of the company. I find this no matter what Half Price Store I go to. But I am reviewing the Bethel store as it is closest to me, and the one I have been to the most. It always has a large selections of books, music, DVD and blue rays. Back in the pre-I-pod day, I used to buy boatloads of CDs from there. (I kind of miss that.) The store also has plenty of novelties--impulses that are witty and whimsical. I have never had a bad experience there. The sales room is inviting, well conditioned, and has a cool wood decor. Chair are provided if you want to read a bit. The only downer is that they don't offer a good price if you try to sell them your stuff. Understandable, from their business POV, but enough to give a mark. Also, the spine of the last book I bought there became unglued in about a day. This can happen at a used book place, luckily it seldom does. After taking them around to several bookstores around Columbus, this half-price books gave me the best price! I love HPB (we bibliophiles call it that), so I will try my hardest to be objective. did I mention I love HPB? I still read. Granted, my reading has now migrated towards reading on electronic devices such as my phone and tablet, but every now and then, I like the feel of an actual book. I have this weird habit of reading magazines front back to front. I have no idea why. I should research it. Can not do that electronically. Maybe you can, and I have not found out how to do it yet. so having pages is ideal in my case. This is my favorite of the HPBs in my town. The hours are long, and a variety of stores are nearby making it quite convenient. It is not the largest, but I am okay with that. Oddly, enough, this HPB has a perfect record when it comes to having the book I am looking for. This HPB can also get quite busy on the weekends, so plan accordingly. I do wish I could get more for things I sell here, but I split my used books between here and Goodwill. Four stars for being the awesome store it is, could have been five if I received more on selling books. read more

In my opinion, the Bethel Road store is the gem of all the Half Price Books in the Columbus area. It may be the smallest and therefore easier to navigate. Regardless, I've had all kinds of luck finding great stuff at this location and at great prices. For instance, I was pricing a copy of the 1776 Illustrated History book around town and today bought a new copy with a dinged corner for $15 (they have a stack of 'em)! I usually find good records/cds/ dvds at this store. The one downside is the sometimes wacky pricing. For instance, in the collectable lps they have The Satanic Rites of Dracula lp soundtrack for $something astronomical$ and Scream's 2nd lp for $90?! read more

Half- Price Books is one of my very VERY favorite places to visit books at after the library They have an extensive selection of books of course, all types. Graphic novels, comic books, some textbooks, tons on both fiction and non- fiction, children's books and a small selection of action figures, board games, antique books and sets where you can learn how to do something like make your own friendship bracelet or learn how to belly dance with a little book and the finger chimes which is super fun! I will take a second here and bring up the employees. These employees are the second business that I can say that the employees go above and beyond across the board to be helpful, kind, patient and the honest truth is most of them are insanely intelligent and it shows. These are some sharp minds up in these places. I used to date one of the employees. She was a library major and she was in similar company so I think a lot of people who are aiming to work with books or used to( retired librarians and library techs) So basically you are in some really great hands here, in any of the locations although I am going to say that the Lane Ave. branch will always have a special place in my heart and is my favorite one. A great place to check for books, movies, CDs, and some software before buying new and pay full price. They alway have a great stock of stuff and are alway worth checking first. They are also great for taking your used books in so that someone else can enjoy them. read more

This was a disappointing store. I honestly have very little to complain about when it come to HPB, except this store. WORST selection of vinyl of any HPB I have been to. Items that other locations would clearance out were over priced. I'm sure things have improved since my last visit and if I'm in the neighborhood I might stop I'm if I have the time; but unlike any other store in the area I won't make the effort to do so. read more

My favorite HPB location in Columbus. Consistent great customer service and always a bargain to find. The managers are all great people and always seem happy to be there. The first time I sold some older books, they took the time to explain the offer and why they pay what they do. I appreciated the honesty! I had a hard time getting a refund put back on my card, but they were very courteous and eventually gave me cash back. May not sound much like a compliment but any other place would just brush you off after processing the refund on their end. You have to appreciate businesses that have an interest in putting things right and aren't dismissive or rude. I will definitely shop here again. Besides, they have so many cool things that you won't find anywhere else, like finger-puppet magnets for the fridge or make-your-own music boxes. read more
