Visited this new neighborhood gem on Saturday for brunch. We had Resy's so we were able to walk right in and get seated right away. Everything about our experience was A1 starting with the service from Luca who was the right mix of conversational, knowledgeable about the menu and drinks to the most important attentive. They really felt like an old homie who had invited us over to their crib for brunch. The place was beautiful and felt like we had been transported to Mexico City! The tables and chairs looked custom and fit the space perfectly. Everything we ate was AMAZING! That sandwich with the fried egg on top I also had this NA drink made with my favorite bevvy Topo Chico, fresh lime and a salted rim. Ahhhh so refreshing. I definitely will be back. I debated writing this review because who has the timeeee or energy, but turns out, I do! This was my partner's and my 5 year anniversary, and we'd moved to the neighborhood a few months ago and were thrilled to have such a highly rated restaurant right around the corner. From almost day one, we agreed we'd save up to celebrate our anniversary here, since the price point is a bit steep. We made a reservation, and the day came with pouring rain. We ran over, soaked but excited. The person we assumed was the host greeted us kindly and said they'd do something special once we mentioned the anniversary. The whole restaurant was full and everyone, guests and staff, were all watching the World Cup projected on the wall, which we honestly loved. That kind of community energy, everyone coming together over the game, is genuinely a great vibe. The problem was there was only one server for the entire floor, and it took 15 minutes for anyone to approach our table, in a restaurant that isn't even large. Meanwhile, the host and chef stood by the door watching the game, seemingly unbothered by the one employee trying to manage a full room. We eventually asked the host if we should just order at the bar since we'd been waiting so long. Our server finally came over, was warm and kind, and got our order out quickly, but every interaction after that felt rushed because all the pressure of the room was on them alone. We never received anything "special" like we were told we would, which honestly would've been fine either way, but overall the night had this feeling of carelessness in the experience. We ate, paid, and left not long after. Honestly this isn't a knock on the laid back energy of the place, we loved that part. It's more that for a restaurant this highly rated and this pricey, we wanted the experience to feel like it matched the price point, especially on a night we'd specifically saved up for. That's on us too for not checking out the vibe beforehand instead of building a big occasion around it. We just don't get to treat ourselves to places like this often, so we were really excited to experience the food and atmosphere everyone raves about, and it didn't quite land the way we hoped. Anyways, giving this four stars because obviously the food was great, and our server was clearly overwhelmed, not careless, so I have high hopes they'd shine on a different night. Just something to keep in mind if you're planning a specifically special occasion here to maybe rethink it and choose this for a fun Friday with friends instead. read more

My partner and I had dinner here last night, our interest piqued by it's Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition. At 5:30, it was quiet aside from the music and a few patrons dining. There are some half booths, tables and seating along the bar. There is an area to hang coats by the door. It's super moody in here with candles on the table and furniture made to look like painted tree stumps. To drink, we had the Michelada Clásica (probably the best michelada I've had in a while), La Ultima Palabra, some other cocktail and finally a glass of red titled something like Vinarství Martín Vajčner (they have a rotating wine list). Everything was fantastic. The same goes for the food. By the time our dinner arrived, the whole restaurant smelled delicious, like corn masa and queso fresco. We started with the sopes. These were perfection. Two little corn masa circles topped with plantains that were just the right amount of sweet (not too much), beans, cheese and an accompanying sauce. For our entrees, my boyfriend had the Chileatole, which can only be described as a truly healing soup (would get this if you're also trying to eat healthier. The vegetables in it were very fresh and tasty). I had the Roti Potato Tacos Dorados which were amazing. The potatoes were seasoned with curry powder I believe, making it really reminiscent of an Indian dish and the sauce was just right! Our server was great and consistently checked up on us, the food arrived on time and we really had no notes other than I wish the menu was bigger! Fast and friendly service. The drinks came fast and were ok. The roti potato tacos were delicious but the carne asada was a bit lack luster. The puree and their signature sauce were both quite sweet. I suppose I was hoping for something more savory. Cute place! read more

My sister and I stopped here for happy hour -- she misread the site though and that it was going until 7, oops! I should've checked it myself, haha. We got there 15 minutes before HH was over, and got a round of palomas. Mine was spectacular. $10 during HH... felt like DC haha. As for the the food, my sister got a mushroom tostada (which she didn't love) -- I tasted it and while I didn't love the mushroom, I liked the plum mole. The roti potato tacos dorados I got... WOW. I read the description so I knew they'd be crispy, but they felt more like flautas than tacos lol. The tamarind salsa and sesame crema really set them off though. As for the place itself, beautiful decor and a great vibe. It's newer to the neighborhood, and they have a late night happy hour as well. I love how it's literally only an hour haha. I liked this spot and it was a great spot for the two vegetarians I went with - a lot of automatically veg platters or ones that could be easily configured to be vegetarian. The queso fundido was very yummy, and I liked the sopes. We got the eggplant milanesa and the fideo seco for our mains, and I loved the fideo seco. I thought it was very tasty and was a great alternative menu to what you usually see at Mexican restaurants in the United States. Mexican tapas bar. Great mezcal selection with a knowledgeable staff that will help guide you. I had an angustifolia sourced through Vaga and a tobala from 5 Sentidos. Superb job at offering excellent, artisanal mezcals. Prices were fair for 2 oz pours. In addition to mezcals, there's a focus on margaritas plus some house cocktails. Wines, beers, and non-alcoholic options too. Beverage menu was bigger than the food menu, so I think it's a bar first. Food menu has only eight items plus two desserts. The three of us split six of the eight non-dessert options. My main gripe was that the table was small and not too practical. Multiple items were served at a time causing a cluster. This dinner required the most rearranging of plates that I've had to do in a while. They started us off with the crudite, the queso fundido, and the sopes. Crudite was a simple and fresh hors d'oeuvre style dish. It had slices of marinated squash topped either heirloom tomatoes and plum all generously dressed in a vinaigrette. A light dish that works as a great starter and complement for cocktails. Queso fundido was super gooey. Loaded with caramelized onions, jalapeño peppers, and mushrooms. A savory and earthy dish which I enjoyed. Another great dish to pair up with cocktails. Fundido was well executed. Plenty of places mismanage the temperature end up serving it where it congeals soon after being served. The sopes were one of the most well liked dishes of the night. Great idea behind it that incorporated classic components into creative format. Base of the sope was a mini mass pancake. It was topped with queso fresco, black beans, and maduros. Delicious and well balanced with crispy, creamy, and soft textures. It was served with a smokey chili oil. It was like a mini, open faced cachapa or patacon. The bigger plates were paced out slightly more conveniently. Fideo seco features broken or shortly cut thin spaghetti with a garlic and adobo sauce along with chorizo, queso fresco, and creama along the edge. A not so familiar Mexican and Italian fusion. Eggplant Milanese came out next. Thick cut eggplant that was deep fried with a crispy breading. It was topped with what I thought was a less sweet basil and had a creamy (I believe black beans) purée. Only one slice of eggplant for $15, so maybe the least favorable bargain of the night. Final dish was the branzino. It was an aggressively charred half filet plated over black beans with a sauce reminiscent of a mole rojo. It was served with a big tortilla, onions, and herbs. We took an Ethiopian style approach by ripping up the tortilla and using it to scoop up bits of everything. Another nicely balanced dish. Service was attentive, knowledgeable, and patient. They were two single occupancy restrooms; one was spacious and had handicap accessibility bars. read more

the food here is really great. 4 of us got a huge chunk of the menu. sopes w plantain, queso, branzino, ribeye and a few others. not a clunker in the bunch. flour tortillas are necessary. salsas are all fantastic, esp the salsa matcha. tbh the only drawback are the stools w no backs at a lot of the tables...small and uncomfortable...that would be the only thing i don't look forward to doing again. read more

For someone who doesn't like to write many reviews I have to make this a novel: My wife and I come here often since it's close by, and it's definitely become one of our go-to spots -- one of the best in the neighborhood. Since they've opened, it feels like exactly what the neighborhood deserves. We usually sit at the bar and really enjoy the drinks - always well made, consistent, and crafted with care. The bartenders are friendly, attentive, and make the whole experience easygoing and enjoyable. The food is solid - flavorful, fresh, and served in a timely manner. Nothing ever feels rushed, but we also never find ourselves waiting too long. The ambiance strikes the perfect balance: relaxed yet lively. It works just as well for a date night as it does for a casual evening to unwind. Between the quality of the drinks, the great service, and the comfortable atmosphere, this is a spot we look forward to coming back to again and again. read more

I'm enjoying dropping in at Olmo because it's so close to home. It's a very cute spot. The food is good. Limited selection and I hope they expand. Some items I'm trying for the first time but I'm sampling the textures and flavors. The Crudités was interesting. I will give the Grilled Branzino a 10 out of 10. Absolutely Delicious and flavorful. I have been watching the empty storefront transform into an adorable cantina and finally had a chance to visit with a friend. We loved it! We were greeted with the joy of a staff so proud of what they had accomplished - a unique bar with delicious food! The Mexico-NYC fused queso was so good I wanted to drink the sauce!
