Customer service was great when I went to pick up my order but the food was not what I expected. The 4 variety empanadas were crispy, delicious and fresh but the shredded pork bowl was extremely awful and I'm not sure what seasoning they used but it was completely inedible and for me to not just push through a meal and waste it, means a lot because I hate to waste food. I'll maybe try a different type of meat because I had beef in one of the empanadas and that was good. For those ordering online, I would like to mention that Somehow Casa Ora and Lulla's bakery operate together. I ordered at Casa Ora but had to get my food at Lulla's. My friends and I came here for brunch. We ordered a bunch of appetizers/small plates to share and 2 entrees, which our server told us would be enough food for us 5. I'd dare to say we didn't need to order as many apps as we did. All the small plates we ordered were fried. They were crispy and not greasy, which was good. I had dinner with friends that evening. My vegan gf recommended this place we could all (vegan and non-vegans) enjoy and she was spot on. I had a ginger ale from the bar made fresh and shaken up like a cocktail and it was just everything ginger ale should be. I had the catch of the day and it was salmon. We visited Casa Ora on a Monday that happened to be Cinco de Mayo. Although they do take reservations, it wasn't necessary that night--there was plenty of seating available. There were four of us, including two friends visiting from out of state who were craving some nostalgic Venezuelan flavors. A must-order item for us was the empanada sampler (combo of 4), and it definitely hit the spot. For entrees, we shared the Pabellón a Caballo and the Asado Negro, which came with mini arepitas. The flavors were rich but a bit too sweet--we actually filled up so quickly that we had to take the pabellón to go! Their cocktail menu looked really enticing, but we opted to skip drinks this time. The only downside was the lighting--it was very dim, which made it hard to see the menu and food clearly. Service was decent and the staff seemed well-prepared for the evening. The place has a charming interior, and the front desk staff is very friendly. However, the waiters are quite slow; my friend and I sat unattended for a good 20-30 minutes, missing the opportunity to order more drinks during that time. The drinks are really watered down. The tuna ceviche resembled sashimi with garnishes, but the tuna itself was fresh. The empanadas are definitely worth trying; the thin dough and great filling make for a delicious bite, especially with the spicy sauce they provided. Tucked in the Williamsburg area of Brooklyn, parking can be a little tricky at times, but once you step inside, it's well worth it. The price point is fair most dishes average around $35 and the quality you get is spot on. For appetizers, I always start with the Arepitas and Empanadas; both are absolute must-tries. When it comes to entrées, I usually go with either the Pabellón a Caballo or the Pollo, and honestly, you can't go wrong with either choice. Beyond the food, the ambiance and service are always consistent and on point, which keeps me coming back. I'd like to preface this with appetizers and starters here were phenomenal. We did the pre fixe and collectively got: guacamole, empanadas, ceviche, camarones, asado negro, and monkfish. Guacamole was super fresh and plantains were perfectly fried. Empanadas were surprising filling! I didn't expect to get all four (ended up taking some home). Ceviche was delicious, and the fish texture was immaculate. Camarones were tender but definitely on the salty side. The reason why I'm rating this place a three. First off, they sat us down initially in the middle of the walkway directly against their Christmas tree (despite the restaurant being mostly empty). People were brushing against us whenever they walked. We asked to swap, and thankfully, they were nice about it and brought us to the front. Now, the service afterwards was questionable. We waited over 30 minutes for our entrees and had to ask the waiter for where it was. Another waiter came by assumed that we were done eating already. We would not recommend the monkfish or the asado negro. The monkfish texture was almost disintegrated in the roll, and it was just a confusing, mushy dish that didn't taste like anything. The asado negro was incredibly sweet and headache inducing. We ended up taking these home and shared them with our friends. The sentiment was the same. Overall, the appetizers were amazing, but the entrees and service were subpar. I guess I might come again in the future and hopefully have a better experience. read more

This spot has been on my radar for a while now and today and today my husband surprised me with a brunch reservation today and it definitely lived up to the hype. First things first - the decor and ambience are 10 out of 10 gorgeous. The restaurant has a back room with a sky light in the center that just brightens up the whole space, it's pretty picturesque. We started with drinks: ~ Lime in the coconut - 7.5/10 (Tasted like an acidic pina colada) ~ Brooklyn No More - 8.5/10 (The grapefruit and gin worked SO well) Then we had an order of the empanadas for a starter and for our mains an order of the cachapas and the arepa andina. We LOVED the empanadas. They were perfectly crispy and came stuffed with 4 different fillings. The beef and the cheese were our faves. The mains were super flavorful but I must say the arepa was more of a sweet biscuit texture. If I were to come back I'd try another item. The beef was very filling. For my main, I had the guac toast. This was served on brioche bread, which was sweet and tasted like a croissant. It was topped with sprouts, grape tomatoes, pickled onions, guacamole, and nata. The nata was similar to sour cream, but sweeter. It overwhelmed the dish a bit and wasn't my favorite topping. I enjoyed the first few bites of the dish, but the mix of flavors and textures became a bit too much so I probably wouldn't order this again. I also had a discount with InKind so that also sweetened the pot. We had 5:30 reservations. Didn't realize they only open up at that time. They are corn doughnuts that come with queso blanco and nata. Wasn't sure what Nata was but it's butter made from raw milk. It was delicious! We wound up only dipping the light and fluffy Mandocas in only that. I'm a passion fruit junkie so Venezuelan food is usually my go-to for that. Their passion fruit juice was so fresh and yummy. Could have drank gallons of it! I had the salmon for my main. It comes seared with garlic, parsley, Yucca puree, kale oil, charred broccolini & shimeji & Shiitake Mushroom. Oh my gosh, this was the BEST salmon that I've ever had at a dining establishment or pretty much anywhere! PERFECTLY cooked, nice portion and everything it came with went deliciously well. Extremely satisfying. For dessert I had the Mousse de Parchita, a.k.a., passion fruit mousse. The flaky sea salt on top was interesting, but I could have done without it. Even with that, it was still amazing. Heavy on the passion fruit taste, light and creamy. The perfect ending to a fantastic meal. It's a bit pricey, but I definitely wouldn't mind spending money to come here again and again! The bill for 2 people was about $155. We ordered the home breakfast, cachapas, patacon and I got myself a dirty chicha. Everything was *chefs kiss* delicious. The portions are on the larger side, although I don't know if 15 for one cachapa and no sides is justified. Maybe it was the timing, but the service was ridiculously slow. From the point of sitting down to receiving our food, at least an hour passed and the food was colder. My cachapa's cheese didn't pull as it had cooled down too much. The servers were friendly and the food was good, albeit pricey, but maybe just avoid the weekend brunch rush. The cocktail menu was printed such that the first two letters were missing on each drink name, making it unreadable. This is definitely a space more conducive to smaller parties, as most of the seating doesn't fit more than four. That being said, I came with a friend to catch up and celebrate an early birthday with a nice meal. We came on a Monday and had a reservation but probably could have been seated without one on this day. The cocktail menu here is pretty extensive and I was curious about a number of drinks. They have a limited number of seats at the bar which could be a good time in the future if I wanted to catch up with a girlfriend. I don't recall the name of the cocktail I chose but will say that it was very heavy on the crushed ice. We shared all the food items: arepitas, hallaca, yucca fries, and pabellon a caballo and it was more than enough for two. Everything was good, but I personally wasn't blown away by any of the dishes. The sauces, however, were really good, particularly the green (avocado-based?) one. During my last trip to NYC, I caught up with some friends at Casa Ora in Brooklyn. The space was candle-lit and it happened to be a rainy night which create a very cozy and intimate space for our meal. "Ceviche" is more like sashimi (raw with no acidity to cook the fish) but one that was poorly inspected as it had lots of bones. It was also entirely too sweet and came with nothing to eat it with other than your fork. The salmon was cooked med-well (more well) so definitely request to your liking. The chicken with chicken rice was a tad redundant and made me tired of eating it but it was phenomenal. I ended up eating the rice only and taking the left overs home (ate the chicken in a salad:). I loved that the butter aspect was in a separate container with the option for the customer to drizzle themselves, it definitely isn't needed; that is not to say that the butter was not worth guzzling down. The tamarindo cocktail was perfectly spicy and I would have loved another but my pallet was shot form all the flavors of todays meal *stuffed drool*. The beef, chicken, and cheese ones were expected, but monkfish empanada is something I never considered, but definitely worth another bite. I really enjoyed the sauces they brought out with the appetizers as well. Next we had the ceviche and beef tongue. Both lovely, but I'm definitely partial to the ceviche. Only thing though, it didn't come with chips and I love a good ceviche/chips combo. For the main entree I had the Lobster. It was a savory, warm bisque filled with different types of seafood. There was also a crispy topping that gave it a bit of a crunch. Definitely a fave for me and I would love to know how to make a dish like this. Lastly was one of the best desserts ever--the Cuatro Leches, which I presume is their take of tres leches. It's not as soft and overwhelmed with milk like you typically find in tres leches, but I personally appreciated that. It had a nice structure to it, sweetness and texture from the toppings, balanced with creaminess of the milk. Honestly I can't stop thinking about this meal. Our waiter was very patient especially as we asked a lot of questions about the menu. We ended up closing out the restaurant, but never felt rushed. What a great late night vibe. If you are looking for an intimate and cozy spot to bring your friends, this is definitely the place. The service was really nice and we were able to be seated fairly quickly. They have outdoor and indoor seating options, as well as space on the bar. I will say the food service was a little slow. So definitely get an appetizer or appetizers to start! Definitely more than one. I would recommend the caramones! I could literally drink the sauce as a meal! It was so so good! What a way to start the New Year with an absolutely divine dinner here on the 1st. To start with, I got the Peligroso tequila-based cocktail and it was amazing. The spice rim was tart and savory and the drink itself was sweet and sour. Could not have asked for a more deep and balanced cocktail. I also tried a bit of the Brooklyn or Nowhere cocktail and this was shockingly great considering I'm someone who doesn't like gin. This just goes to show that Casa Ora isn't messing around when it comes to their cocktails and the balance is what they've nailed so well. For food, we started off with the Arepitas, which was an assortment of four flavors: chicken, shredded pork, shredded beef, and one with beans. It's great to share since you can sample so many flavors with just one dish. The underdog which stole the show with this order was actually the side sauces that came with it. The sauces were so good that we asked for extras while dining there and also for a small to go container of just the sauce because we couldn't have enough of it. Maybe because it was the first day of 2023, or for a reason I'm not too clear on, the restaurant offered us and the other tables around a complimentary appetizer. Not sure what it was called but it was essentially a pastry of ham, cheese inside a sweet-savory bread. This was quite delicious too. At this point, I had full faith that the rest of the meal at Casa Ora was going to be great because everything so far was on point. For mains, we got the Baby Shark. The monkfish was beautifully cooked- tender and flavorful. The plantain around it was sweet and the rice was well salted and the whole dish sang together rather melodiously. Another great hit. To end, we got the Quatro Leches and this wrapped up our meal on a sweet note. I'm beyond impressed with Casa Ora and would absolutely return for another drink and meal without a doubt. read more

Started off with the Guacamole+Plantain Chips ($16) and Tequeños ($10). Guac is chunky and served alongside sturdy fried plantains that weren't greasy. Could have used some jalapeños and citrus in the dish but otherwise pretty good. Tequeños are great - well filled and served alongside a tangy/sweet tar tar sauce. For the main course, got the Pollo ($30) - a marinated chicken breast with rice, and sofrito. Well marinated and filling overall. Service isn't too bad, albeit on the griff side. I'm so saddened by my experience here, especially after a recommendation from my sister who had the best experience, and all of the reviews . My husband and I made reservations for 8:30p. We arrived on time and was told our table was just checking out, so if we could wait at the bar for just a couple of minutes we would be seated. During this time of waiting, my husband and I saw at least 3 other parties seated. This wait turned into almost 45 minutes to then be seated with a waitress who could care less!! She really came over after another 10 minutes, to say "hi, are you ready to order?...." No, welcome, thanks for coming, thanks for waiting, is this your first time... none of the warm hospitality anyone mentioned. And to think I chose THIS PLACE coming from out of town, to enjoy my birthday!!! The food then came another 20 minutes later! By this time it's almost 10p and I'm just eating for an 8:30p reservation . I took most of my food back to the hotel, I was just frustrated and tired. We only saw the waitress 3 times! To take our order, bring our food, and bring our check. I don't even know her name. I feel like I received the short end of the stick, and honestly my feelings are hurt by this place.
