The quality of their work, their construction knowledge and professionalism are nothing short of ABYSMAL. I contacted Ryan Klobas (the owner) with regards to his defective and delinquent work. I threated to contact the Builders Board to motivate him to show up. His response? He said that "PEOPLE ALWAYS TRY TO TAKE HIM TO THE BUILDERS BOARD, BUT IT NEVER WORKS," and then promptly contacted his attorney (who sent us a patronizing letter) instead of showing up to the job site (something he NEVER did) to remedy the situation. He bullied my female client (a mother of an infant). HE TOOK 14 MONTHS TO INSTALL 2 WINDOWS! It wasn't until I began proceedings with the CCB that Ryan finally agreed to complete (or attempt to) complete the project. I had to dry plans on his behalf (he did not seem to know how) to show him how to do a simple window installation. I specified the use of proper materials, as he had not educated himself on this common trade knowledge. I forced him to get permits and engineering for the structural damage he had done to the residence. He lied to my client, telling them that permits were "optional." HE USES A CHAINSAW AND A SLEDGEHAMMER (literally) to cut ROUGH openings into structural concrete walls. He installed his windows exactly backwards. He dug huge holes in the yard, leaving them all winter to fill up with water, which migrated into the house. He does not know how to caulk properly. He used finger-jointed (garbage) lumber, which disintegrated in 2 months time. There is not one aspect of construction, neither in the use of materials or in standard construction orthodoxy, that Ryan knows how to implement. He makes things and systems up in his head, uses materials against their intended purposes, then writes a letter telling my client that he is "innovative" by doing so, and that my client is "crazy" for suggesting otherwise. All of Ryans' employees who visited the site, refer to Ryan as "an idiot" and "a bully." One employee told me that he gotten abused by Ryan because Ryan hadn't given him the plans (which we provided) for the project. Ryan told his employee that he should "LIE TO THE CLIENT TO PROTECT THE COMPANY." Every one of his employees who attempted doing their mis-guided work on my client's house, ended up quitting, because of the way Ryan mistreated them and his clients. I am not sure where the positive reviews have come from, but I suspect they are fake. My female client was literally afraid for her safety. She experienced Ryan as DANGEROUS. DO NOT HIRE THIS GUY.

We were lucky to have Brenden as our project manager. He scheduled and coordinated all the work, ensured every little detail was taken care of, communicated with us clearly and effectively, and immediately rectified any minor issues that came up. He was also incredibly patient with us. We were so happy with how the work was progressing that we added additional work to the scope, and he accommodated it without hesitation and without it affecting our promised timeline. They took our existing unfinished basement and converted it into a brand new space that we love complete with a combo half bath/laundry room and family/office space. We had shopped around for a number of design-build firms and contractors and ultimately decided to go with Lamont because we liked the portfolio of work that we saw, they had good reviews, a clean CCB history, and being design-build would help us control the budget better. A few reasons we felt our project went well and we would recommend Lamont: * They were very good project managers. There are a lot of different little pieces (design, permitting, managing contractors, timelines, etc) to manage with a remodel project and we didn't want to have to manage it ourselves. They handled all these pieces and just pulled us in for key decisions. Nikki and Matt helped immensely with the up-front estimating and design to help us create a great space with our budget in mind. * The end quality of our basement is wonderful! Caleb and Steve did an amazing job every single day to make sure each piece was done correctly and to a high quality standard. They asked our opinion on exact finishes and found ways to up the design of the space when we got down to the nitty gritty. For example, we were second guessing our trim design decision on the windows in the plan a couple days before it was set to go in. We talked with Caleb and showed him our Pinterest board of window trim treatments to get his thoughts. He was excited to see our ideas and said he could make it happen, but it would require a change order. We were prepared for the change order since it was pretty last minute, but the next day Caleb came back with a great idea that wouldn't require the change order. He realized he had enough leftover material from the laundry shelf to make sills for the windows in the same style that we wanted! You can tell he cares about his craft and making things as good as they can be. * The project finished on time to the day. We have always heard about projects running wildly over so we were very pleased that the space was ready on the day they said it would be. * We had a small plumbing issue arise about 2 months after construction completed, but we called Lamont and they resolved the issue quickly and without any hassle. Overall, we were really happy with how it turned out and were kinda sad to not have Steve and Caleb around every day after the project was done, lol.

As my husband and I had just picked up an order from Senor Taco and were backing out of our parking spot, headed toward the intersection, a Tesla with a Lamont Bros wrap all over it came just centimeters from crashing into our car at 30mph! The most reckless driving in a parking lot I've ever seen. Seriously could have killed someone. Thank god there wasn't someone trying to get across the lot at that moment as people frequently do in parking lots... the driver of this car laughed about the interaction as he walked into the 7-11. Tall, white, skinny, semi gray/black hair. Looked about 50 years old. Whoever owns this business I urge you to look into who is representing your company. As a lifetime resident of West Linn and a homeowner, I will never be looking into Lamont Bros for any work on my home due to this unfortunate experience.

There was a long list of things to get done and owner/GC Bill helped ensure the work was done well and completed on time. Fair to say there were no surprises budget-wise. We Demo'd everything Put in new hardwood floors Adjusted the layout -- moved the fridge and range, added an island Extended a gas line to the stove Opened up the two entries into the kitchen Painted it all New cabinets and countertops New lightning (overhead, under counter, a couple of pendants) Added a skylight Mostly all new appliances Maximized the storage (no more pantry in the garage!) Bill was really responsive thru email and text and I never felt unaware of the project's next steps. It was also very clear what design elements I was responsible for and what I could trust him to pick out or supply. His partner Pam offered assistance and wisdom in this area too! (And to be clear, nothing proceeded without my approval.) Bill coordinated everything so effectively. When gathering bids I really liked that he highlights that he has a longterm relationship -- ie 20+ years in some cases -- with many of his subcontractors. It shows; they were all reliable as well. While I hope not to have to redo another kitchen any time soon, I will be keeping Bill/Garden Home in mind for other house renovation projects. We've been in our finished kitchen now for about 6 months and I'm still so happy with the update. We are spending an infinitely more amount of time in it the enjoying it as a family space that was inaccessible before.

Someone I know with a lot of construction experience commented that they basically did the perfect amount of stuff, didn't overbuild it, to get what we were looking for. We're really happy with the results. Side note: we were out of town during the two-week construction process and they also took excellent care of our property while we were gone. I'd trust them with future projects, no doubt.
