The best rehab and therapy I've ever had done by real professionals and people that care

By far. the best (out of 7 total) rehab facilities I've ever been to. They actually do trauma therapy, and you get sessions with a licensed psychologist twice a week, in addition to your drug counselor. The very best therapists I have EVER worked with. And the best drug counselor I've ever had. I've been looking for therapy like this, and the answers I got at Olympia House, for 20 years. They are the most skilled, caring, and professional team of people I've ever worked with in mental health. I'm dual diagnosis, so I've been seeing professionals for my mental health for 25 years. Some of their curriculum is custom, developed in house by the psychologists there--you won't find tools like these anywhere else. I have a custom designed "addictive system" I use every day to track where I am in my recovery and mental health. I use this not only to prevent relapses, but correct myself if I run off course, and this works not just for substance relapses but also things like depression, anxiety, and anger. Their website doesn't reflect this, but they take Kaiser Permanente insurance now. That's the only reason I was able to come here. I know reviews are inflated on the Internet, but please trust me, I swear with every fiber of my being and every ounce of integrity I have, this is likely the best rehab in California. If you have trauma, and most people do, or some form of PTSD, this is the place you should go. They also focus on finding meaning and purpose in life--and they will definitely help you with that. They also allow you to come back to the rehab twice a year for 2-3 days for free! They call it a "tune up". No one else I know of does this. There's also free group therapy for alumni (a process group led by one of the therapists there) once a week via Zoom. I would wake up many times in OH in disbelief that this place exists at all, and that I got to be a resident here. They've made an enormous difference in the outcome of my life. read more

There are many rehabs that help you dry out and get started in a 12-step program and while those are helpful for some, I found Olympia House approach with working directly with therapists on individual issues like PTSD, anxiety, depression and other co-occurring disorders. Trust them with my life and wouldn't recommend any other facility. read more

The staff at Olympia House are not only professional, but also very caring and personal. Most if not all of the staff have had personal experience with addiction and/or co-existing conditions. I was treated for past trauma, PTSD, depression and anxiety. I learned great distress tolerance skills, as well as gaining a whole tool box of skills to use to center myself and bring joy back into my life. I've spent more than 40 years with chronic, often debilitating depression, Dr. Senadhi Parakrama's "Recovery Map," has become a daily guide in my life. Olympia House saved my life! I went to OH at the lowest point in my life. The care I received there changed the course of the rest of my life. I have been sober over a year now and OH was the first step! The staff is absolutely amazing. Every individual that works there is incredibly caring and supportive. I saw my licensed therapist 2x per week and my AOD counselor 2x per week. This helped me get to the root of my addiction. The classes each day teach you how to be a successful person is recovery. I also participated in yoga which is offered every week and I participated in equine therapy. We residents played beach volleyball- this made us feel normal. The accommodations are next level. Thanks to Olympia House I have learned that success in recovery is possible for me - even after 10 years of unsuccessfully trying any and all available treatments (including other facilities)! Individualized therapy is key here and Olympia House helped me see that my alcoholism is  a symptom of other underlying conditions/systems and so to treat the alcoholism successfully the underlying problematic systems must be addressed and treated. It offers a variety of modalities and while AA is an option, it is not the focus. I found the one-on-one therapy, the process groups, and the CBT and DBT most helpful. I would say that the keystone of the Olympia House treatment program is an individualized approach; they even manage this in group contexts so that patients learn not only through their own therapy but also from the therapeutic work their peers are doing. They also employ some of the most caring and hardest working therapists I have known. Olympia House realizes that sustained success in sobriety requires more than a simple 28 day spin dry and offers the options of longer inpatient stays, an excellent intensive outpatient program (in person or via Zoom) and a weekly alumni group for graduates of the program plus a tune-up program. I have found that in sobriety, continuity of care is key and Olympia House not only encourages it but also enables it. The rural setting is beautiful and there are animals on site. I wish the good fortune of success in recovery on all who struggle with addiction/alcoholism and feel grateful that I was lucky enough to end up at Olympia House when I was actively seeking a life of sustained sobriety! Olympia House is beyond AMAZING, and absolutely changed my life!! It's literally impossible to articulate into words the magnitude of impact Olympia House has had on me, and the level of appreciation I have towards not only the facility as a whole, but every employee there. The staff doesn't simply show up to work to get a paycheck. Each and every one of them are all in, and would go to just about any length to help support you through your process. Our son was there for 30 days which we paid for, in full upon entry. It is 8 months since he left there and we are sill waiting for them to send us the money our insurance company sent them months ago. One excuse after the other. Do not pay them in advance, let them get the money from your insurance company. I'm sure they will work faster then. read more

I don't know about any other residential drug/alcohol rehabilitation facilities as O.H. is my only experience. I do know that my entire life has changed for the better from going there. The effective life skills I learned in various classes offered - CBT, DBT, Relapse Prevention, Anger Management, Process (group therapy), Boundaries, 12 Step, (Equine and Art and Music) Therapy and others are skills I use daily and will use through the rest of my life. I see people have posted how the staff has changed and this I can agree with. I just know that the people I worked with while I was there provided what I personally needed. Do not trust this place I gave them my dept card number so they could buy snacks for my son while he was there someone got a hold of my dept card number and started charging on it multiple people had their cards compromised they sent a letter out admitting that our information was stolen and now they wont stop calling harassing me for money they say I owe from my dept card number being stolen this place is a joke do not trust them I paid 16,000 dollars cash to keep my son in this place for 28 days and they will not stop harassing me they never apologized for letting my dept card number be stolen DONT TRUST THIS PLACE IT IS A JOKE !!!!! read more

I left my wife there. She stayed a week , they never returned the 3000 check I left for the 30 days treatment. The male residents tried to flirt with her constantly and offered drugs to her after she left , there is absolutely no control with the residents , she got worst after going there because of the amount of men that pretended to be her friend and used her vulnerability to approach her and offer her drugs. Full disclosure: I am not, nor was I ever a patient here, but my experience with both reception and admissions was just so absolutely horrendous that I just felt the need to write my first ever Yelp review. I called Olympia house yesterday evening to look into their services. I am struggling with a severe addiction, as well as an eating disorder, and the situation is pretty dire, which I relayed to the person I spoke to. I got some info, and was told by the man to expect a call from another woman early tomorrow morning (this morning,) regarding my questions and follow up with insurance. By 10 am this morning I had not heard back, so I called. Spoke to a woman, who told me she had spoken to insurance but wanted to call them back to discuss more. She told me she would call them as soon as we hung up, and then call me back immediately. 3 hours went by and I heard nothing, so I called again. She told me the same. Said she was on hold with insurance, and the wait time was "long," so she hung up, but would call again and call me "right back." 3 more hours passed. Nothing. has been around 8 hours since I was told by reception to expect a call back "shortly." The conversation and my questions were left unanswered, as I had hoped to hear back soon about insurance, availability, services, etc. I called once more, 30 minutes ago, with my mother next to me... and The woman who picked up the phone was absolutely appalling to us both. (Her name is Anne.) She was irritated that she couldn't hear us, snappy and incredibly unprofessional and rude, responding to our "can you hear us" with "yeah, now I can, what's up?" I was/am in tears, because of how absurdly rude and unprofessional she was. My mom called her back and conveyed our disbelief to her, yelling at her for her unprofessionalism, especially in face of a person going through a crisis. Still, she remained dismissive and sarcastic to the extreme, and told us she would transfer us to admissions (which we were both under the impression we were speaking to already.) But it was voicemail. My mom called her back, and she finally connected us to a man (Gavin, I believe.) He, too, refused to apologize or acknowledge the situation we just were in, so I picked up the phone and told him how horrible this all had been, and to please speak to the woman (her name was Anne, I believe,) about her terrible treatment of a potential patient. I told him this place was where I wanted to go, where I had promised my mom and therapist I would look into and work towards getting myself into... and how disappointed I was/am by the entire experience. I don't want to be rude in my disclosure, nor do I want post this in a nasty, hateful sort of way. I am just so devastated that the people I spoke to are responsible for treating those who are struggling, because all I personally got from this experience was an absolutely horrendous past 12 hours. read more

olympia house is life-changing - this is a real place of healing, a refuge, and an oasis where you can unplug surrounded by nature and supportive, peaceful people. olympia house recognizes your individuality and provides community at the same time. they will also feed you wonderful, freshly prepared food and accommodate your dietary needs and preferences, no matter how unique. they cater to the whole spectrum of spiritual needs, and provide multiple options for meetings and multiple therapeutic modalities, all of which are voluntary. there are very secular meeting options as an alternative to AA/NA and nothing here feels cult-like, which is surprisingly rare in recovery. i have had remarkably terrible experiences with therapy, including in an abusive residential boarding school as a teen. olympia house is a remarkably *good* place. they do more than treat addiction here. they will really help you work through the root issue. their clinical director, senadhi, recognized the truth of my family system and helped me recover from my mother's munchausen's by proxy and my own post-traumatic stress. he is a gifted, highly skilled, experienced healer and significantly more intuitive and intelligent than most clinicians. his alumni group has really helped me stay sober, and i have over 2 years clean without any other meetings or support. i do not even have sober friends or family on my team, but olympia house has helped me get through it as a source of healing energy, community, and motivation to continue my personal growth. i can tell you that olympia house is a rare gem, and the level of respect they have shown toward my humanity, individuality, and freedom to make my own choices is a really special thing as well. they do not take a one-size-fits-all approach, won't put you in a box, and they serve everyone. This is a true state-of-the-art residential treatment center, offering many treatment modes including individual psychotherapy 3x/week, drug and alcohol counseling 2x/week, group therapy daily, several educational groups every day, and 12-step or alternative programs such as Smart Recovery and LifeRing. The food is wholesome and served in a family-like atmosphere instead of cafeteria style. The environment offers hiking and running trails, and there are horses, cows, water buffalo, goats, and other farm animals to care for. Educational groups can be extremely interesting, e.g., theory and practice of cognitive therapy or effects of alcohol and drugs upon the brain. For the most part, the staff are professional, experienced and respect the residents. There is an atmosphere of trust, so that there is virtually no theft and little breaking of the rules. Some rules are fast, usually when state regulations are involved; otherwise they can be flexible in order to meet the individual needs of the residents. The program is new, so it is going through some growing pains - such as not having the time to provide all that it wants to provide, plus there is a lack of good communication between staff regarding mutual clients and between staff and clients. It also needs more opportunities for indoor and outdoor activities as most clients spend the majority of their free time smoking on the deck. Overall, though, it is worth the cost ($12,500 for 28 days, apparantly with flexible ways of paying) and is appropriate for most clients, be they very young adults or seasoned professionals. read more

I called to inquire about getting a family member some help. Got a lot of questions answered, but one question required getting more information for me and I was told I would get an email with the answer. Well, it will be a week tomorrow and no contact. Staff needs to understand how difficult it can be for family to make these calls and follow through even if my family member might not have been a match for their facility. read more

I spent 45 days at OH in early 2020, as I had struggled with an alcohol addiction that was ruining my relationships and slowly, my life. I could not say more about the stellar work these people do. First, they build intentional community, much like the award-winning summer camp my children attended. Absolutely everything is thought through with great empathy, evidence, and intentionality. The clinical services are fantastic. You get hours and hours of therapy and drug/alcohol counseling and group learning per day - they structure your time so that you are learning, processing together, processing with your individual therapist, and with your alcohol and drug counselor. The clinical services are evidence-based, meaning you won't be forced into AA - you can be there for a full course of treatment and get everything you need and don't have to attend a single AA meeting. You will be encouraged to try AA, LifeRing, SmartRecovery, and you'll even have access to a buddhist/zen-inspired approach. The community / culture is fantastic, with an encouragement to connect with people throughout the day, and as hard as it must be to build a positive culture around people who have come with life-threatening problems, they do it! Also: you get a LOT of therapy. The focus here is on getting to the issues that made you an addict in the first place, and opening you to perspective on that, that helps tremendously. It is a lot of work but it is the best work I ever did, and the best money I ever spent in my life. I had a single room, it was comfortable and warm, and agreeable. Nothing super fancy - but I wasn't there for five star lodging. Similarly, the food is robust, plentiful, flavorful and they feed you well three squares plus snacks and juice throughout the day. When you arrive you are searched and tested - as it should be, you are coming in in a bad situation, after a bottom - but even then with a smile and they could not be kinder. The clinicians are first rate, the drug and alcohol counselors really know their stuff, and all the staff is kind, warm, friendly and interested. I am still in touch with many of them. One super bonus is that after you graduate the program of at least 28 days, you have access to an alumni group process meeting that is held every week; it is free and is a mainstay of my recovery. Also you have access to what they call 1-2 'tune-ups' a year, where you get to go, again, absolutely free, for 3 days and 2 nights back to Olympia House, where you are a positive connection with the current residents, as someone who is 'out there' in the world living a life in recovery, and you participate in all the group activities, including process group therapy which is a really nice perk of being a graduate - regular access at no cost to ongoing clinical services, delivered by the OH staff and in true OH community fashion. I could not say enough about this place. They truly helped me change my life. Best money I ever spent! read more

If you are facing the decision for residential care I would highly recommend you to Olympia House. Our daughter received compassion and a very high level of care. I have an extreme amount of gratitude for this place. Dr, Wayne Thurston has created a state of the art treatment center. I have been to, and left, a number of programs. This is the first one that I have thoroughly enjoyed. It deals with all aspects of addiction. From yoga classes four days a week, equine therapy, 12 step meetings, intensive one on one psychotherapy thrice a week and AOD counseling three times a week, it really covers all the necessities of getting better. Whether you are a mild problem drinker or a hardcore I.V. user, you will probably feel safe and at home. The staff is wonderful, consisting of a few Doctors, and some recovered addict/.alcoholics, they really seem to understand. This is now the longest I have been sober in 6 years, and by far the happiest. If you think you need help, this is a great place to start the process. read more

As a family member searching for a non AA based inpatient rehab option for my husband, they helped me via phone and text to convince my husband to go, accommodated his physical needs and reached through his addiction to help him see his true potential. If I could give Olympia House ten stars, I would. This is an amazing place for anyone looking to deal with addiction issues. In my opinion, the founder and director, Dr. Wayne Thurston, is a visionary. He has created a unique treatment facility where clients are looked at as individuals and are encouraged to find their own voice and figure out what works for them. It is a far cry from the one-size-fits-all programs promoted by most rehab facilities. The staff is professional and there is a kind, non-judgmental ethos. The program is psychotherapeutically based and clients get one-on-one therapy with individual therapists and drug counselors as well as lots of group therapy. This is a great place for someone who wants evidence based treatment and who wants to explore the reasons behind their addictive behavior rather than blindly professing their powerlessness and relying on a spiritual solution. The 12-step concepts are embraced along with secular recovery philosophies such as Life Ring and SMART Recovery. Concern for the clients supersedes the quest to make money. Clients are welcome to return for short stays if they are having trouble maintaining their sobriety once they complete the program. The facility is peaceful, situated in the country west of Petaluma. It feels more like a retreat center than rehab. There is a culture of trust and support. We watched our family member go through a real transformation with the benefit of this program. It hasn't been a smooth path, but it has been one that has given our loved one a real chance at gaining long term sobriety. We are so grateful that such a smart, caring and soulful program exists. This place was incredible and saved my life. That being said... It has drastically changed. Now more intent on profit or nepotism, I can't say which is more prevalent, has become a place that focuses less on recovery and more on image. I was there for two months and it was the best time of my life. It wasn't fun or easy but it allowed me a safe place to explore the broken parts of myself and taught me how to grow. I went back for a detox after the fires and what I found was a poor excuse for what I had previously known. Some of the counselors were the same, most of the AOD's had left. Now employed there are AOD's that have not even completed their education but happen to be related to and completely financially funded by the owner. This saddens me and is completely unprofessional. I understand wanting to help family but if in doing so you place them in a position (to help others) that they are not qualified for... Well I have no words that would be appropriate to say here. I'd suggest a re-evaluation of your intentions. Your SLEs were closed already. Please save your facility by going back to your roots. What was your initial goal? read more
