This was quite the interesting find on our trip to Roanoke. We traveled to Roanoke right in the…read moremiddle of Covid, and planned to spend time at our hotel's pool, but, well, covid...and the hotel pool was closed. We searched to see if there were any public pools open in the area (preferably outdoors to help with social distancing), and came across the North Roanoke Swim Club. It fit the bill- it was a pool, it was public, it was outdoors, it was reasonably priced (especially if you went later in the afternoon, which was fine for us). It is a little weird to come upon a public pool smack dab in the middle of a subdivision, but we felt relatively safe, as it wasn't particularly crowded, so we could keep our distance from other patrons since masks don't really make much sense in a pool. There wasn't a lot as far as extras-a water slide (that looked a little wobbly for my taste when others went down it), and a covered picnic area that was being set up for a birthday party while we were there, but, if a pool is what you're looking for...a pool you shall find!

I previously had payed a deposit for an after hours pool party. The deposit was $100.00, the party was going to be $300.00. After everything that happend which made it impossible for us to go on with the party, I had to cancel. This cancellation is well within notice. We had paid our deposit two weeks prior, and recieved a receipt. Susan, one of the owners had emailed me back "Im so sorry to hear that. But we would have to keep the deposit. Good luck, Susan". If it would have indicated anywhere on the Website, Application or any Emails that it was non refundable, I wouldnt have been so shocked. There's nothing indicating that the deposit is non refundable anywhere at all. There is one small "underlined link" that says "pool rules" that you can not click, or find anywhere on the website. I would understand if I had canceled a week before, but there is no available information. Be weary when booking a party, there is no clear information, or a contract to sign. I am out $100.00 which may not seem like much to most, but for my husband and I, it's alot of money. I didn't expect compassion from these wealthy owners, but I do expect a clear written agreement, or at the very least clear terms and conditions on the website or application. They got us for $100.00. Pure Greed, and Sheisty buisiness from wealthy owners.

I was visiting from North Dakota and expected something a little better given the price paid for a day pass. The venue does offer workout facilities and a couple basketball courts. The chlorine levels here were incredibly high and burned my eyes from the fumes. I could see smaller children liking this place and could see it would be a reprieve from the winter but probably wouldn't come back in the summer. It's also the first time I've experienced a place that charges different rates if you're not from the county or community.

The competitive pool includes a dive well with platforms and springboards which as a diver I was elated to see. There is also a recreational pool and water play area for kids. The whole facility is clean and well-maintained and the staff exceedingly helpful and nice. The local region is fortunate to have a swim and dive facility of this caliber.

I have attended more championship level swim meets at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center aka CAC…read morethan probably any other. So why such a tardy review? It's just been overlooked for seven years. Sometimes it seems like I live at a pool since I'm on the road around the country conducting swim meets as an official. Often my son competes at the same meets. The center is funded by the city of Christiansburg and Virginia Tech as the team trains and competes at CAC. The pool is roughly eight years old. The location is in town. Parking is limited which always creates issues with large meets. Off street parking is free and legal if no signs. There is an athlete drop off in front. It's not covered. Parking in the rear near the pool is for hospitality, coaches and officials. My most recent visit was my son attending a Breaststroke clinic with VT head coach Sergio Lopez last December. The deep end diving area was utilized for the small two day camp with 22 participants. The centers competition pool is a 50 meter Olympic size with platform diving. Pool temps have always been correct. Air temps are comfortable. Deck space is limited and is an issue with large meets. Air quality is fair. The spectator area is large and good from most seats. CAC has a nice digital scoreboard. However the location at the very end is not optimal. The facility is immaculately kept. The venue also has an Adventure pool with slide. This pool is used for warm up/cool down during competitions. Swim lessons are also conducted here. It's a nice bright area with windows top to bottom. I'm sure I will be back at some point. But CAC is not currently on my 2020 schedule.
