Current member here and its alright. Weight could use some updating, theres more then enough cardio machines, staff is friendly and other members arent to bad for the most part and the hours arent to bad. I was going to use a trainer until they told me how much it was going to be and I didnt really want to but they said you could cancel in within 30 days. Was never able to get ahold of my trainer our schedules never matched up and rarly talked. Went to try and cancel and they told me i would have to pay another 2 months after i had been trying to cancel for a month. There arent any other gyms that arent crossfit around this area that offer what golds does so its like a bad relationship I stay because I want to be healthy but dont like the management and how they rob people. read more

My child signed a contract here a few years ago when he was a minor. Him and his older brother not his father. given the fact that they allowed a minor to go under contract for a gym membership without either of his parents there I'm disappointed. I've worked at orange Theory and burn boot camp. They would never allow such a thing. It's illegal for a child to sign a binding contract with a company or organization without a legal guardian being present. I only just now found out as he has turned 18 and has only been to this gym once it's affecting his credit in his developing years bc they have taken it to collections now that he's 18 .. don't go here !! And please protect your children places like this prey on them. I'm looking into a getting a lawsuit or suing... as I don't understand how this happened a few years back. read more

I'm moving from the area and attempted to cancel my membership in person, because every gym I've ever used is usually cooperative with you getting out of your contract as long as the area you're moving to doesn't have them as an option. This Gold's outsources their contract enforcement to a 3rd party who has been entirely unhelpful for the process. They'll be charging a $50 early cancellation fee and state the process takes 30 days so I will get dinged for another billing period as well. I was originally going to give the gym itself the benefit of the doubt but decided they deserve one star for being complicit in these scummy practices. read more

Do not go to this gym they will rip you off. I signed up couple years ago and was told I was signing up for a one year contract. When I went to close my account because I moved away from the area they said that no it was a two-year contract not a one year. And also I didn't move far enough to cancel my membership. They are a completing rip off, the place is disgusting they don't clean very well. It's very dirty in there. I went swimming in the pool one time and got sick. Do not waste your time money or health going to this place. The staff is rude. read more

I came in today after I went to their website last night and completed my application for a free pass. When I arrived I was rudely told by Brenda that this gym doesn't do the free pass and that I will pay the drop in fee of $10. I explained that I went to THEIR website to find the information for the free pass. I showed her my phone and she reluctantly let me come in but only after I had to argue with her for 5 minutes prior. Completely rude and unprofessional. Also, I couldn't get a protein shake because there was no ice available. If you don't want to allow free passes then take the option off of your website. Lastly, people like Brenda shouldn't be interacting with customers with her unprofessional attitude. In closing, I don't write a ton of reviews, but I do make it a point to write one if the service is above and beyond or horrible. You can decide where this review fits. read more

As the other poster says, this is a fairly new Gold's, so things haven't really started to fall apart to the point one would complain. All of the equipment is maintained and the locker rooms are kept fairly clean (the men's anyway - I can't speak for the women's). The only negative is their turnover rate for employees. As is common in a lot of gyms, folks don't stay very long, so that leads to a fairly uneducated group of folks when it comes to sales. When I went to renew my membership, I had to deal with a friendly, but woefully uninformed young lady that said the only offer she had to keep me on another year was one that would have increased my membership by 30 dollars a month! Needless to say, I canceled my membership. Because I wanted to stay at that Golds and because it was obvious the young lady was a complete ditz, the next day I spoke with Susan, the only person who has been there since they opened. She was mortified by what had been offered me and told me that I was supposed to simply roll on to a month to month at my current rate. She fixed my account and I'm still there a year later. Lesson learned, if you need customer service - ask for Susan! read more

This is a new Gold's location, so there's not too much to complain about. There's no shortage of cardio equipment, free weights, bars, or plates. There's a lot of everything at this location. Members are a mix of everything, which is nice to see in Roanoke. I've been here at all kinds of hours and never experienced any crowds or messes. The weight room is in a corner with a lot of windows and everything you need is there. If you're doing your abs at the end of your workout (like you should be) then you might overwork them because there's way too many toys and machines here for that! Benches and seatbacks are always clean. The members are extremely polite and mindful about cleaning up after themselves. This Gold's partners will some local hotels, so there is no daily fee if you're from out of town. This location doesn't have towel service, so bring your own! Parking is very easy and never a problem. If you've never been to this location, then finding it is a little tricky. The gym is on a little hill not too far behind the Advanced Auto HQ side of the mall. read more

I have never been to a Golds gym before, only reason I am here is because my hotel allows free access while you're staying with them. If it wasn't free it probably would be 2 stars. I went here for about 3 weeks, usually 6 days a week. I'll start with the good: Staff is super friendly, definitely enjoy being greeted Lockers rooms are clean Sauna is a huge plus Never went in but the pool looks great Plenty of cardio equipment The bad: The weight room equipment is very outdated. Can get very crowded during rush hours. And the free weights can be hard to come by. For a place that gets this many members I feel like some attention should definitely be spent on the weight room read more

Great gym for the traveler staying at the local hotels by the airport. This gym has extensive cardio equipment and a plentiful amount of barbell, free weights, and hammer machines. I am tempted to leave my current gym to join Golds again in my neck of the woods. read more

Was tricked into signing a two year contract knowing I was going to be moving for work in a few months by the manager Heather who assured me I would be able to cancel my contract at Anytime with proof of moving more than 30 miles from the club. After dealing with the third party they use to deal with cancelations and sending them multiple copies of my new lease and bills in a different state and the staff at golds repeatedly telling me there was nothing to do to cancel my membership I gave up and ended up paying the remainder of my 2 Year contract, good job heather you got me! The gym is very large and has everything from a free weight area to lots of machines, cardio, a cardio theaters, women's only area, and a couple of pools. Certainly everything I needed and lots more. The employees at the front counter were pleasant enough but the place was packed each night that I visited (twice) and more than a few of the members were rude. It was difficult to find a place where I could do walking lunges and not bump into people. I couldn't do any circuits (even just jumping between two exercises) because the second I finished with one set, there was always somebody there waiting for the equipment. Keep in mind that you've got to be flexible - you may have to wait to do exercise A, but you might be able to do B or C. read more

I have used Golds Gym, Roanoke,VA 1 time in the last year and 10 months. I went to cancel my membership, and was surprised that they said I signed a 2 yr contract. I can get out of the contract by paying the full balance of the contract. What a rip off. They should be giving a refund for the non use of their facilities. I guess my fault with 4 different job changes, 4 deaths in my family, loss of transportation, a shoulder replacement. I could go on with life events that have prevented me from visiting their facilities. I have always had the mind set that I will make myself better physically, but I can't at this time. They won't come off the contract unless I pay the full amount due through the contract. Thanks Gold Gym's for being a reputable company, but taking advantage of people. read more

Great weight room with plenty of free weights, squat racks, and curl bars. They have a great selection of equipment and exercise machines. A lot of cardio machines that are never all busy! They have a seperate woman's room for those that are shy to work out in front of everyone. The bathrooms are always clean and plenty of locker room space is available. Golds is pricey but it is golds. read more

I loved the gym before I joined personal training after that I saw complete new level of gym as the personal trainers don't follow the schedule cancel the appointment without even checking with you if you complain to management they will make it in such a way it is all your fault. If you want to break the contract with them they will add so many charges on the account and wouldn't even communicate. NOT SUGGEST!!!!!! They have serious Management issues!!!!! read more

Don't sign a contract here. The rep lied to me when I signed up. I was given the run around with contacting the GM and the cancellation dept. I fulfilled the requirements to cancel and they proceeded to make up new rules. Took me weeks to for them to approve it. If you do decide to go here, READ THE CONTRACT. Save yourself the headache and don't do it. read more

I cant get any answer from them on weather or not they are going to credit us for membership fees being withdrawn while the gym has been closed. You cant even leave a message to get a return call. Its bad enough I got stuck in a 2yr contract but now I'm paying for nothing. I hope this all over before June because I have to notify them months ahead to cancel my contract in August. This gym offers a movie room but don't be fooled. I have complained ever night because now members are using it to be their private conversation room so the nice movie area is a nightmare. I just paid off a collection of 900 dollars thanks to them. When I signed up a couple of years ago, I was told there was no contract or obligation and I could pay as I go. I do accept part of the blame as I was foolish enough to listen and NOT READ. Anyway like most people I got bored with the gym and quit going. So they hit me with a $900 cancellation fee that had to go to collections. read more

Love this gym! Pricey but well worth it. Our son loves Kids Club, my husband loves the cardio cinema and the gym is never packed.

I recently joined the 6 week Boot Camp at Gold's Gym North Roanoke. Sabra Robitaille and Robert W. Sullivan Jr. are great instructors. They are very supportive and motivating. They push me to work hard and do things I didn't think I could do. I look forward to each workout. They are never boring, and I feel great afterwards. read more

Tori W below is spot on. Don't sign a contract here! The employees will lie to you and tell you if something comes up in your life that you need to cancel your membership than you just have to explain that in writing and you can cancel your contract. They lock you into a two year contract with only STRICT certain ways to get out of the contract ie military orders (but if they are not two years long your account will just be frozen) and moving over 35 miles. Then they handle their cancellations through a third party that will not do anything to help you. I've also been warned if you don't cancel before your renew date they automatically renew you for another two year contact that you can't get out of. I never thought to read every fine print word on back of a gym membership. Unless you plan to never have anything come up in your life for the next two years and never want to go to a different gym DONT GO HERE! This has happened to at least two of my other friends as well. read more
