You can see by my previous review here that I'm a big fan of Michelle at Omaha's Hair Choice. But things change. Most notably, COVID 19 happened and I don't think an industry has changed their methods more than hair care. But don't let that intimidate or disappoint you! My husband and I used to go see Michelle together, each having our appointment right after the other and both of us visiting with her at the same time as one was being groomed and the other sat in the adjoining chair. It was relaxing, it was fun, and it warmed our souls to be with our friend Michelle, even though her level of professionalism and skill never made us doubt for a moment that we were in the care of an extremely talented businesswoman. But we can't go in together anymore. Only one of us is allowed in the building at a time, so I waited in the car. And the masks...we couldn't imagine how a shampoo and hair style could be done with a mask on, but she did it of course. We couldn't imagine how it would be as fun with Michelle's infectious smile being a part of the experience, but wow...we never realized before how much smiling she does with her eyes! And we couldn't imagine how it would be the same without her hug to greet us in the beginning and another hug to send us off at the end. But Michelle is the sort of gal who hugs with her every word and action, as she is one of those rare people who truly, truly cares and shows that in so many more ways than simply a hug. Rest assured that every COVID-induced change at OHC has been made with the utmost care and compassion. It was certainly clean and sanitary before, of course, but there are a few more steps involved now, some that seem inconvenient (snacks are, sadly, missing, for instance--and everyone is masked---and everything is disinfected with a crazy frequency now), but it's okay because there is the assurance that no change was made without the deeply-felt belief that it is for the safety and benefit of their clients. I really appreciate knowing that it wasn't done as part of some robotic checklist to simply reopen after the shutdown, but rather as part of a well-thought-out effort to do the right thing. So we still come out looking and feeling marvelous, even though it all seems so different now. As they say, "the more things change, the more they stay the same". I have been coming here for about a year! My stylist is Alyssa, she is amazing! She listens to my ideas (there are a lot of them) and helps me sort though them to find the best style and color for me! She takes her time, I never feel rushed out of her chair. This girl is a perfectionist she won't let me leave unless she knows my hair is perfect! All the girls here are very nice and friendly to all the customers. Very professional and they seem to work as a team in that salon which I like! They also have fun drawings and givaways every so often! I won a facial at Christmas and saved it for my birthday present to myself! Sarah did my facial for me! It was so relaxing. She walked me through each application and explained things when I had questions. All around this salon is great and fun to come to for some relaxing pampering! read more

Yesterday I visited Alyssa for my first hair cut in 4 years. I was very nervous sitting there because my last hair appointment all those years ago was horrific and made me fear ever sitting in a hair dressers chair again. I explained to her what had happened and I can tell that she took my fear and feelings seriously. She is the first person I've ever visited for hair care that respected my wishes, explained things to me and actually kept length. That was the most impressive thing to me. I got the cut I pictured for myself while not feeling like I got all my hair hacked off. It is now more manageable, not as heavy, and cute as heck. I had no choice in the matter but you do. My sister-in-law scheduled 13 hair appointments here for her wedding party. I was scheduled with Ashley. I thought she did a great job fixing my hair up until I made the four mile drive back to my hotel. Before I even reached the front doors of the hotel a significant chunk of the hairstyle fell down onto my shoulders. I was already on a tight schedule & going back to OHC was not part of the itinerary. Seth had zero luck bobby pinning up the pieces so he drove me back. I returned within an hour of leaving & Ashley was already gone for the day. What the hell! The receptionist quickly found Josh available & he was happy to fix my hairstyle gone bad. He curled, pinned, & hair sprayed the part that fell & added about 100 more bobby pins to the rest of my head. It wasn't going anywhere & it didn't until close to midnight which by then I didn't care since the wedding reception was nearly over. Paying $65 + tip for a "special occasion" hairstyle with Ashley, a "master designer", is not recommended. read more

A Game Changer! I moved to the Omaha area from Southern California and read hundreds of reviews trying to find a new stylist. I am SO GLAD I found Liz Henley at OHC. It was a game changer! I haven't loved my hair this much in years. She took it from an all over, dull blond to a wonderful, vibrant, silky multi-dimensional blond and carmel. I feel wonderful and I get compliments all the time. I highly recommend Liz! read more

I can here via their website. First, there is no where to look without products in your face . I met the assistant to my stylist and then never say him again. The color was OK but my hair cut was terrible, basically no real cut was done. I didn't see this until l got home and really looked in the mirror. The cost, well put it this way it was twice what I paid at Reve. And do not say Ok to the extra conditioning treatment, they charge for that too. I thought 140 dollars was excessive for single color and poor cut. I wish I would have investigated more. From now on, will go back to Reve and find the hairstylist my previous stylist recommended. read more

I am sorry to see some of the poor reviews on here because I have never had a bad experience in the last 3 years that I've been going to OHC. I regularly see Lindsay and take my girls (ages 8 & 11) here for cuts as well. She is always great to listen to what I want and give me input (and is patient when I am indecisive!). My highlights and cut have always been great and when she did my hair for a wedding, that was great, too! The rest of the staff is always very friendly as well. The salon is definitely on the pricey side, but it's worth it to me to get a good cut and have someone work with my hair who really knows what she's doing (I've had some BAD cuts in those super cheap salons). I hope anyone reading this will weigh it with the other reviews and give them a try. read more

I tried this salon after going to a couple other highly recommended salons after moving here from Seattle. I wasn't happy with either salon I previously visited and decided to try Omaha's Hair Choice after reading the Yelp reviews. I made an appointment with Jess for a haircut. I am in the process of growing my hair out and really just wanted it shaped up and trimmed. The other salons I visited didn't seem to listen to me and I always ended up with more layers than I wanted and a noticeably shorter length. However, Jess listened to what I wanted and gave me a great cut. She checked with me every step of the way to make sure that she was doing what I asked. Finally, someone who listens! Everyone at the salon was very nice and I even left with a "goody bag". I scheduled my next appointment on the spot. I think I've found my new Omaha salon! read more

Decided to try a newer stylist--how bad can they be right? Wrong!? If you don't know what it is that I'm asking for, speak up and say so. Asking to get rid of some of my thick hair by thinning it out wasn't a suggestion. Also I asked for finer, woven highlights, not giant stripes that I got. Very unhappy and will definitely not return. Not again!! Try a more experienced stylist and maybe you'll have better luck than me. read more

I am Extremely picky with who I choose to color my hair. I'm from Texas and was unsure who to go to. I saw Liz C. at Omaha's Hair Choice and we spoke for like 10 minutes on the history of my hair so she could find the best way to damage it the least with the right results, then spoke even longer on what I wanted the end results to be. I have been going to Liz H. at OHC for about 2 years. She is a great stylist and keeps track of different colors and styles we have tried. She LISTENS to what the client wants which is sometimes a hard thing to find. I would recommend anyone to try and you will not be disappointed! Some people have complained about higher prices on here but sometimes you get what you pay for. Yes it is more expensive, but it is definitely worth it to me to be happy with the way I look! I am surprised that anyone would complain about this salon. I have been going to Ashley N. for 5 years and before that I never stayed with a stylist for more than a year. In fact, I don't even live in Omaha anymore and I drive an hour just to get my hair done here. My hair is thick, and wavy and coarse and it always looks good when I leave. I have never found anyone else that could cut my hair into a style that works for me. As far as color goes, they are the best. I get so many compliments on my color everytime. I would highly recommend this salon to anyone! When Ashley was on maternity leave I did get my color done by a newer stylist there and she was also great. read more

It's too bad that this salon charges different price tiers for different cuts. My hairstylist massacred my hair; I could have paid a five year old to do the same thing that my hairstylist did to my once beautiful, spiral waves and natural curls. My hairstylist, Brie, apparently wanted my hair to look exactly like hers (stick straight). News Flash: Not everyone wants stick straight hair, and after my cut, I now have to spend an extra 10 minutes styling my hair, despite my plea with her to make it 'low maintenance.' My extra time in the morning comes when I have to tame my curls which were awkwardly cut to make them uneven and stick out in strange places. Apparently asking for 'layers' here means getting one giant piece of hair in the back of your head lopped off while the rest of the hair is still the same length. Cutting wavy hair is like sanding a piece of wood: You can go with the grain and make it glorious, or go against the grain and have your hair look like mine. Do yourself a favor and skip this salon if you have any sort of texture to your hair. I wanted a haircut and it's true, it's now shorter, but I hate this cut more and more with each passing day, (and I think it's frizzier now because the shears used were probably not sharp, again a five year old would of at least had sharper shears, they practice on Barbies all the time.) read more

Worst haircut of my life. I recently relocated and have had trouble finding someone in the area who is comfortable cutting short hair stylish. I spoke to the receptionist explaining what I wanted (short, messy pixie cut) and asked for someone who was very comfortable cutting short hair. She set me up with Anna who she said used to have a pixie cut herself. I took in several pictures including Ginnifer Goodwin and Halle Berry - very cute, short, flirty, and messy/textured styles. I've had my hair cut this way several times over the last 5-ish years without issue so I know it's possible. The stylist was excited to cut and happy to have the pictures. We talked about having options to wear it differently (cute vs wilder, etc). I even included a photo of what I didn't want my cut to look like since sometimes explaining "messy" can mean different things to different people. By the time I asked her to stop cutting my hair, it was too late. There is nothing cute, flirty, or messy about my cut. It has no texture whatsoever. It's basically a boy's buzz cut and looks like the picture I said I didn't want (except even shorter!). It's so short I can't style it at all and it looks exactly the same after sleeping on it all night. It's ~3/8" on the sides and ~1" on the top. Think GI Jane. She agreed that she had cut it too short and offered the cut for free or for a discount on a future cut. I told her I would pay for the cut. I believe it is the right thing to do since we all have to make a living and she did provide me a service. I don't know what she normally charges for a cut, but she charged me $21. I'm sure this is a discounted rate. In the grand scheme of things, it's just hair and it will eventually grow back. I will never go back here though. read more

I tried Omaha's Hair Choice a couple of weeks ago just to go somewhere new because I wasn't very impressed with previous salons / stylists I've visited. What first drew me were some positive reviews I read online and more importantly, the "New Client Certificate" I saw on their website where as a first time client if you spend $30 you get $10 off or spend $50 and get $25 off your service. I was planning to get my hair highlighted which I figured would cost a minimum of $45 - 60 so that intrigued me. I made an appointment with whoever was available and am so happy / relieved I had Josh! He was the best stylist I've gone to in years. I felt like he was actually in tune to what I wanted for myself as opposed to what he thought would look good on me. He asked plenty of questions to make sure he got it right and even price quoted my highlights prior to doing anything to my hair; no other salon has done that for me before. Overall he went beyond my expectations and at the end of the appointment he didn't pressure me to buy products compared to other salons I've gone to such as Garbos in both Oakview and Regency. I recommend him 100%! read more
