So back in 2013, I had a full leg and Brazilian waxing done here and the gal who did it was amazing. Very professional and moderately painless. So I decided to start waxing again and to finally make my overdue return. Unfortunately, the tech doing my waxing from several years ago is no longer working here so I made my appt. with Patricia, who was available in the time slot I needed. She was very polite. But she would do large chunks of waxing at a time, which was the most painful experience I've ever had. EVER. And even when I had asked her to apply pressure with her hand after a large batch (to help reduce the pain), she did it for the first few and then stopped. I know she was trying to be efficient and while I appreciate that, it was a horrendous experience. Not only that, but when she was done, I still had leftover wax on my legs!!! See atttached photos. It was all over and I had to peel off my leggings when I got home because they were stuck to me. Ironic because I was just telling her about the worst waxing experience I've ever had (from another salon) where there was leftover wax on me. After peeling my leggings off, I noticed two things: patches of skin where she had literally broken SEVERAL blood vessels (2-3 patches of this - see photo) and patches of hair that she missed entirely. So I didn't even get a good waxing after all that pain! I can't begin to voice my disappointment in this establishment. But when I have to shave my legs the day after an incredibly painful waxing, I know I won't be back. The last several months have been full of new experiences and rekindling old experiences. Waxing had always been a normal thing for me living in Hawai'i where I wore bikinis more often than not. But it also made me feel great! Since I've gotten back into a regular routine again I've been thoroughly happy with Brazillian Wax by Vanella. I usually see Jackie when I make an appoointment and love the chocolate coconut wax she uses! It's less painful than other waxes I've tried and the fact that it smells like coconut and chocolate helps too. Recently I saw Melody who uses a green tea wax. I've never tried that before but it seemed fine as well. I think that Jackie goes a bit more beyond than just a typical wax which I appreciate. Melody was sweet, quick, and sent me off with tips for care. I know I'll probably keep coming back despite the cold weather months ahead. If you have yet to try a brazilian, I highly suggest you give it a try. Great Brazilian wax and upper lip wax from Karlee. She got all the hair in the Brazilian including places that most waxers typically miss. So I would definitely come back to her for that. I also got my eyebrows done, but they weren't to the standard that I usually like them. I wouldn't have gotten them done here in the first place if I hadn't run out of time to go to a threading salon. They don't have the mini comb and scissors to trim the length of your brows. You can just input your phone number on a tablet and check in pretty easily. Hi-tech is always user-friendly and a good first impression. 4. The floor, the color choices of the decor, the white doors of the private rooms all gave you one word -- professional. 5. My esthetician Jackie made me feel safe, yes, safe, that's all you want. I originally wanted my typical "clean up" -- eyebrows, underarms, half legs, half arms and Brazilian, but I couldn't book and get them all done at one visit because of the time limit, so I had to give up waxing eyebrows and half arms, however, Jackie was GOOD, she's skillful, you can tell that her every movement is neat and she is fast, she saved up like 25 minutes to finish my eyebrows and arms! Out of my expectation, I got my "clean up", from head to toe, but more importantly is Jackie made the whole experience less painful. Before we started I told her my last Brazilian was 3 months ago, she gave me a smile and from that smile I just knew I could trust her. 6. I don't like to leave negative reviews because I know that anyone can have a bad day. But I feel like it is necessary here. I have been waxed in other cities and I think that that the shop here has sanitary and process issues. It really seemed that the focus was on speed rather than safety or thoroughness. There was a lot of double dipping in the wax. They also used this roll on wax that did not seem at all to be a sanitary option. The waxer I had was very friendly and she was training someone else so she was explaining things as she went along, more to the trainee than to me. I was very surprised that they did not have any kind of medication list or skin issue list, a questionnaire to fill out, or any kind of waiver to sign. It was great that my waxer agreed with me that it was a bad idea that they didn't have it but they still didn't have it. I just did not feel comfortable here. I had several ingrown hairs after the procedures including one that got very infected. I also had quite a few missed hairs. I know that I have blonde hair so that can happen but I really think that the focus on speed caused there to be so many left behind. I will not be returning. Unless they change a lot about their procedures, I don't suggest that you do either. I received an email from the shop asking for feedback after my visit. I gave all of this feedback to them and did not receive any kind of reply. That says a lot to me about what they think about their customers and their views , feelings, and reactions. read more

I have thick, curly and coarse African American hair. If my kitty and arm pits had eyes, it would've looked like a werewolf. I'm serious. I hadn't shaved since the last time I got waxed (almost 3 months prior!) I've seen Kayla both times. She is sweet and personable, but also is intuitive enough to know when you don't want to talk. Which is important, because I loath small talking. She leaves me completely silky smooth! A texture you can't replicate no matter how close the shave. Every single thick, curly hair was ripped from its follicle on my kitty werewolf! Kayla went over some areas multiple times just to make sure she didn't miss a spot. She is very thorough. Painful? I was looking for a great waxer in Omaha and decided to check out Authentic Brazilian Wax by Vanella. I'm so very glad I did! There are a ton of things I love about this place. First, booking an appointment is ridiculously easy online. Second, they offer a ton of time slots. I was able to book an appointment a few days out, which was impressive considering the last time I had a wax done in St. Louis, the individual I go to was booked for a month solid. Third, there is NO cancellation fee. I couldn't believe it. You can cancel up to three days in advance for free (which I would never do, but it is incredible that they don't charge you for it). Fourth, I LOVED the rooms. Each room has a television with a ton of channels on it. There can never be enough distractions when you're getting a wax (trust me!). Fifth, they send you email and phone reminders. Finally, they have two locations that are easy to get to. I'd say the best part about this place was Lisa who did my wax. She was EXTREMELY friendly and talkative, which put me at ease. She answered all of my questions and never made me feel bad when I couldn't handle the pain gracefully. She truly understands how painful and anxiety-provoking waxing can be. She made sure I was comfortable the whole time and even allowed me a break when it got to be too painful. This was my second wax and honestly, it was NOT bad at all. A little pain here and there, but that was it. I also appreciated that the temperature of the wax wasn't too hot. Some helpful hints: 1. Make sure you come hydrated. The more hydrated you are, the less it hurts. 2. Do NOT shave before you come. If your hair is too short, you can't get waxed. 3. The first time ALWAYS hurts the most. This was my second time getting waxed and it was WAY less painful than the first time I got waxed. In sum, no matter what you want waxed (eyebrows, face, feet, arms, legs, back, bikini line, etc.), this is the place to go to in Omaha. This place is the real deal and considering that they are only charging $39.00 for the whole thing, using hard wax (which takes the esthetician twice the time), its totally worth it. I used to pay $32 for Eastern European matrons to rip my skin off in 15 minutes or less in New York-- I will gladly pay seven more dollars for them not to. And, every other salon that charges double for this service in this town, shame on all of you! If these ladies can make a go of it for $40 per appointment, there's no reason you can't, while you are busy selling ladies a $150 facial at the same time. She makes me feel welcomed & since it was my first time to ever get a Brazilian, she ensured me that I was in great hands & made me have such a great first time experience. As this is my 4th week check up, I am amazed by the results & I really like how fast it is when you go regularly. 1st appointment took about 25 min & the second one was only 8 minutes!! I got a brazilian was by Vanella, and she was so kind and made the whole experience pleasant. They use hard wax (which, I've read, is the proper waxing method as opposed to the soft wax with strip cloths), and the facility it very plain but clean. There are about 4 different waxing rooms. It was slightly painful, but Vanella gave me fair warning... towards the end of the session when you are almost hair free, the wax does feel very warm (HOT!) and unpleasant, but pain is beauty! I have no issues with waxes, and Vanella even took the time to tweeze my many short hairs. I would recommend this place to anyone. Their online booking system is very convenient. I hate to be that person who's like, "Well, I guess I've been spoiled by my fabulous life in a larger city." But I guess I was spoiled by my fabulous life in Denver. I left a 5-star but terse review for the esthetician I used in Denver, and now I'm considering re-writing that review to better sing her praises. Granted, she worked from a swanky spa in a ritzy neighborhood and cost twice as much, but she was worth every penny. Enough about my past glamorous life. It's not even like this was a negative experience. I had no issue with my esthetician, except she did scold me about lapsing on my maintenance and having dry skin. Please. It's not like I'm a 50-something woman who's never had a mammogram. Overgrown pubes aren't going to kill me, and insulting my vulva isn't going to keep my patronage. That said, she did an excellent job at the wax itself. Being that I'm not an expert at her job, I'm not going to critique her method. I wouldn't complain that a sports bar doesn't perform Service a la Russe, so I'm not going to complain that a $39 Brazilian wax joint doesn't pamper me like a little baby, you know? I think my primary gripe is that the setting is pretty clinical with a jumbo mirror on the wall. It was a little alarming to be told to turn to the side and be faced by a view of my own (very red) Angry Beaver. I did rebook an appointment per my Two-Tries-for-a-Fair-Shake policy. Absolutely terrible! This is one of the WORST salon and waxing experiences I've ever had. Seriously, you're better off just shaving. Not only was the waxer unskilled and unprofessional, the quality of the work and wax were terrible. Such a waste of time and money. I have never had such a painful wax- I will probably be red and swollen for days. She obviously has not been professionally trained and has no clue what she's doing. I always see Kayla and I have not been disappointed! I am "not allowed" to go without my mom to see her anymore, that's how good she is! The salon is really inviting and comfortable. You have your own private room with a TV in it, and they will let you change the channel to whatever you want to watch. Getting waxed is never fun so I love that you can just relax and watch TV while you are getting waxed. It makes it a lot more relaxing and gives you something to take your mind off of things. Scheduling is easy. You can book online (my favorite way to book ANY appointment) or just call them if you prefer. They can also send you a text or email confirmation so it can go right to the calendar on your phone. I love when places make scheduling as convenient as possible, and they certainty do! This is a mixed review. The one star is specifically for the employee Lisa. I drove all the way from West Omaha for my appointment and took the wrong exit which made me 7 minutes late for my appointment. While I was pulling into the parking lot I was told that she was refusing to take me. They have a 15 min late policy, which I understand, but I actually walked in and asked again and was told specifically she would not take me! Do you call this customer service? I have been a client at Vanella's since it opened, over 5 years. I regularly went here once a month. I was drawn here by the prices and location. I stayed because of the great estheticians that work here, but they never stay for long. I have to switch wax experts about once a year, because they always leave. I don't think they are treated well by their employer and are given crappy tools to work with. They have this hideous tissue paper that is put over the tables that slides around and sticks to your bottom. I'm sure it makes it easier to clean up quickly, but it's uncomfortable. Other places use sheets or something more dignified. When I first starting going they used a better organic wax that didn't hurt as much and left my skin smooth. Just recently they switched to a cheaper wax that hurts a lot and the results are not as good. I am also disappointed in this new policy that you have to book within a certain time or you have to pay more. Almost every month there is a new receptionist that doesn't quite know what they are doing. I always booked a couple months in advance online to try to avoid issues. I blame management for all these problems. After going here for years, it is clear to me that the employees are treated like garbage. I no longer wish to support this type of management practice. There are other places in town that have similar prices, better wax and happier estheticians. read more
