He made it explicitly clear what decisions were required on our end and guided us through what I thought was an overwhelming process. We also appreciated how accommodating he was while we were dealing with construction during the pandemic with a baby. I've stumbled on a fabulous contractor!…read more Our home is 8 years old, and we shouldn't have had the water leakage we had. The shower in the second bath had been leaking, causing extensive damage. We had to completely replace the bathroom due to water infiltration, as well as some sheetrock in the dining room and the second bedroom. When I was in my 20s, I would have repaired myself, but now I'm in a wheelchair and decisively, not 20!! I was referred to a contractor from Concord named Yaniv Taragano, of Taragano Design and Build, and that was the best referral ever! We also had other projects in mind: replace the kitchen sink with a copper one, replace the under-cabinet lights, install two ceiling fans, add "can lights" to the main bedroom, add a pot-filler, replace the bathtub, add a door to the laundry room, and re-paint the interior. Yaniv saved us a bunch of money throughout the project. For instance, he color-matched the wall paint exactly, so only a touch-up was necessary to achieve beautiful walls! He's bonded and insured, and most importantly, he and his people are very careful. I also checked out his license, and there was not a single blemish. Easy to understand and appreciate. They expertly tackled a dry rot nightmare on the back of our house - a nightmare which we though had been remedied by another contractor years ago. Turns out that contractor made matter worse. Antone and crew were able to identify the sources of water intrusion - roof, gutter, a rotted window, wood siding, you name it. It took some time chasing down the dry rot, but the end result is that this side of the house looks as good as the time of original construction. The crew was punctual, neat and tidy, coordinated well with other trades, and they were fair in their pricing. All in all, a solid performance. I'm across the street from the customer. I'm writing it because it's the 3rd major construction project in this immediate area in the last several years, one more to go. Three of the four were/are about a year-and-a-half long. I'm writing because I've discovered that there can be significant differences from one construction company to the next when it comes to neighborhood relations. Hire these guys! They don't abuse the work-hour limits set by the city (Albany) like the others, who would often start early or run a long time after they were supposed to quit in the evening. They ease up on weekends out of regard for the neighborhood and often don't work on Sunday at all. The break from construction activity is very welcome. But even in that area, (construction noise) they're better than the rest. I thought they seemed quieter than the others and out of curiosity asked a supervisor, thinking I was just imagining it. Turns out it's deliberate. For instance, how many guys are 'hammering' at the same time, time of day, day of week. They try to intelligently decrease the noise they create as much as they can, as appropriately as they can. They also try to be considerate about parking. They know there's an area a half-block away with parking not in front of anyone's door. They seem to pick up on the difference between an empty parking space that's due to a car being gone all day (to a day job), from an empty space that is used by someone who's based at home all day and empty only because the person is off on an errand for a couple hours. In the latter case they try to limit using that space to once a week. If you're planning a construction project there's no getting away from the fact that it's going to be intrusive to your neighbors noise-wise and parking-wise. They won't be thrilled to have the disruption. How refreshing that this company (A M Construction in Antioch) acts like they realize that too, and try to be considerate when they can. If you care about the effect your plans will have on your neighbors, hire these guys! (Bonus: there's kind of a nice vibe coming off this group. They seem to like each other and enjoy working together.) P.S. I read the other customer reviews for the first time after writing the above. I'm not surprised by what I read. The contract (Quote #3975 - $150,000) clearly includes upgrading the main residential electrical service to 200 AMP and installing the awning above the ADU access door as part of the project scope. These items were presented in the company's response as if they were additional work, but they appear explicitly in the signed contract. I have also included an email dated Aug 20 from the project manager confirming the project was "on track for completion in 3-4 months." The project ultimately took around 6 months to complete. Additionally, the electrical work referenced in their response included an EV circuit, which is typically required for new construction and ADU projects under the 2022 California Electrical Code. This is a standard code requirement rather than a discretionary upgrade. These screenshots provide context for my experience during the project. Throughout the build I frequently had to verify measurements, coordinate ordering timelines, and raise planning questions that would normally fall under project management. The on-site crew worked hard and treated the property respectfully, and I appreciate their effort. My review reflects the overall experience managing this project as a homeowner and is shared to provide transparency for others considering a similar project.
