Their BOGO is always worth it in my opinion; fresh ingredients, delicious flavors, and aesthetically pleasing! Our favorite rolls are the Sakura roll and the spicy salmon roll. Unlike other places that often go overboard with the crunch, their spicy salmon is strictly chopped salmon mixed with spicy mayo, which adds a rich and decadent flavor to it! Review is for takeout only, but Omiya has been our go to sushi spot for years! Though the prices have increased over the years, the quality has remained about the same. Salmon teriyaki lunch & dinner bento boxes come with good portions & enough variety to satisfy your hunger. Though the salmon pieces have gotten smaller, it's still enough to fill us up. The 3 roll lunch special for $14 is well worth it - they don't skimp on the filling in favor of rice. Omiya has one of my favorite spicy salmon rolls - definitely recommend this! I also really enjoy their futo maki roll & their garden salad dressing. Our orders are usually fulfilled really quickly & packed well. They come with an extra choice of rolls on the side. It can get a bit pricey depending on what you choose, but it's ll well worth it. Some rolls are about $30. This is my new go to for vegetarian sushi. I've noticed that vegetarian sushi is not always available at every Japanese or sushi restaurant in Bayridge. Omiya had a great selection and plenty of sides to go along with it. On our last order we tried the avocado maki and the sweet potato rolls. With it we had vegetable gyoza and various bubble teas. I ordered a sushi platter for pick up and it was ready in about 30 minutes. Very nice job on the presentation of the sushi. There were ten regular rolls all assorted and plated nicely as well as 2 special rolls. However, the spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls were sour and were not edible. All the other rolls we got were fine, but we practically lost our appetites after tasting the sour ones. Will mostly go elsewhere for sushi next time read more

This is your run of the mill sushi spot in the neighborhood. Prime location by the buses and train station. Several blocks away from my old high school haha. Nonetheless, it's good food with decent prices and friendly staff. Their chairs are a bit clunky but comfortable. I don't recall much of their decor besides the chairs. Had a basic order for an impromptu dinner here; spicy salmon and a ginza roll. Also ordered a taro bubble tea which was really good. My friend had a more complex order which I didn't bother to figure out because he simply pointed to the pictures in the menu sooo it should be easy to replicate if you recognize it from my photos lol. If I were in the area more, they'd probably be my go to! I recommend checking it out. I'll try to stop by again and order more interesting menu items, but alas this is all I have for now. I frequent their sister restaurant that is on Avenue U very often. So I already expected great food and service from Omiya. I ordered for delivery a salmon teriyaki Bento box during their lunch special so it came with a side salad ( you have the choice between a salad and soup). The California roll that came in the bento taste tasted very fresh. I love eating imitation crab. The tempura items included (taro, shrimp, sweet potato, and suimai) were very good. The salmon was a little dry but that might have been because I ordered for delivery. read more

The only complain;))))))) that my maki rolls was very big size, and I could not finish them. Horrible place with mediocre sushi. Went in for lunch one weekday and while most restaurants in the area are typically teeming with customers, this place had only 2 other tables occupied. That's the first red flag. Second red flag is the exorbitantly high prices for rolls. The reason, buy one get one "free." This place is a joke, service is nice but the food is subpar at best. Fish is lacking in flavor and pieces are small. Paid for two salmon roe sashimi ala carte and the eggs were not fresh at all. Shriveled and not glossy, they seemed to be a few days old at the least. The kicker? They charged me $1.00 for sriracha in a saucer, you know, like if you go to a reputable restaurant and ask for a condiment. Charged me also $1.00 for spicy mayo served as a condiment. Im surprised my glass of water wasn't $0.25 for the ice and $0.10 for the cup. Credit card machine was down so they took my card number down. Told them I was on a lunch break and I needed to go. They took their time and didn't tell me the machine was down till I got up and walked to the register and asked what was going on they took almost an hour and a half. I wouldn't come here for a free meal let alone pay for one again. Stay away from this place. read more

I use to come here for sushi a lot in the past. The place is pretty big and can accommodate large parties. I like their bogo free appetizer and special rolls when dining in. I usually order the sunomono, rock shrimp or Star Wars. I like the sunomono. The quality of the fish is not bad and I like the sauce that's drizzle over it. The rock shrimp and Star Wars are very similar. They are both fried shrimp but with different sauce. The rolls are pretty cheap compared to the city. It runs from $3 and up and they have a good selection of rolls. This is one of the few places that have mango and apple rolls. I like the eel mango roll, tempura rolls, futo maki and Alaskan roll. I order the spicy salmon and tuna sometimes but I prefer their other rolls. From the special rolls I usually get the dragon roll and soft shell crab. Our bill usually comes out to be around $40-$50 for two people and we are always full. read more

Ordered out tonight, first time here and...my hard earned $35.85 is totally wasted.Too many rolls with funny names on their menu, from Gucci to Prada rolls, and Hello Kitty to Spiderman rolls. Long story short, we stayed on the safe side today and ordered regular Cali, Dragon and Spicy Kani rolls, which all were mediocre. But gave it a shot anyway for their bogo free specialty rolls. Do not even want to talk about it....but I will, Tokyo roll is a tempura battered roll and deep fried, soggy and chewy. Crunchy topping from Samurai roll were all stuck on the lids when the take out lid was taken off. From a veggie-head perspective this place was great. I ordered seaweed mushroom soup, two veggie rolls (oshinko and a custom roll) as well as two pieces of inari from the a la carte menu. I also had tea to drink and it was perfectly brewed, no bitter taste from over-steeping. (Simple but important detail!) I felt it was a good amount of food for me though if you are hangry you could throw in an appetizer or another roll for good measure. They also have teriyaki veg options if you want something more filling. Not sure if it's a marketing gimmick but I like that they offer low sodium soy sauce. (Americans tend to abuse salt). The ambiance was nice and service was really friendly. My server was very sweet and patient and kept refilling my tea without me even having to ask. I asked her if they could make a custom roll for me with avocado, cucumber, and mango (I really wanted something with mango) and they happily obliged. Prices are super reasonable and they have great vegan and vegetarian options for rolls. Usually you only see the avo-cucumber option but they had a full section! I want to try the fried banana roll next time. The only negative is I wish they had non-disposable chopsticks and cloth napkins for dining-in. I used to eat here a few years back and enjoyed their sushi but then moved to the other side of Bay Ridge and stopped ordering from them until yesterday. Yesterday I ordered 4 different sushi rolls for delivery. As I was eating them I noticed the quality and taste was a little "off" but didn't pay it too much mind and sort of forced myself to finish them because I was quite hungry. Afterwards my stomach felt very heavy like the food wasn't traveling it's normal digestive path This morning I woke up at 7am with cold sweats, body aches, nausea and severe diarrhea. The sushi from this place gave me FOOD POISONING!!! I've been bed ridden all day and running to the bathroom every half hour. Sure, they switched management about a year and a half ago (no more 50% off banner out front), but the sushi chefs are still at the top of their game and the new wait staff is as friendly as ever. This is still the only sushi place where I can order two rolls, an appetizer to share, and not be hungry two hours later. This time I came back because it was my mom birthday, so I treated my parents out to lunch. One of the reasons I like this place is the rolls are cheaper here. About $3 per roll depending on what you get. They also added the buy one get one free on specialty rolls, which wasn't offer back in my school days. Ordered the Dragon Roll, rainbow roll, eel avocado hand rolls, tamago sushi, sweet shrimp, shrimp tempura, boston roll, california roll, and east roll. All the sushi we ordered were pretty delicious and solid. I wasn't a big fan on the tamago and sweet shrimp, it was bit below average to me. When I'm in the Bay Ridge area, I usually go to Omiya to grab a bite. It's casual, inexpensive, and a decent sushi spot. I don't come here for the sushi or sashimi because it's not the best. I come here for their house special rolls and they have an extensive and creative selection. The rolls are very creative with names like iPhone roll, AK47 roll, BMW roll, Gucci roll, and you can probably guess what other names they named the rolls by now. All the ingredients are listed under each roll, which is really helpful. The lunch specials are awesome, basic rolls are $3 each, and house special rolls are buy one get one free! I usually get the kani salad to start; it's crabmeat and cucumber in mayonnaise. Sometimes I get the salmon teriyaki bento box that comes with California roll, shu mai, and tempura or the seafood udon. The spicy dancing kani, bonsai tree roll, and many other rolls are all very delicious. I also had the green tea fried ice cream, the skin was too thick and not enough ice cream but it was decent. read more

I have been coming here ever since I was a freshman in high school (Quite a few years back...) but it comes as no surprise to me that this place is still open. Great quality food, the rice-to-fish ratio in their sushi is perfect--there are other places that just fill up on the rice, but Omiya doesn't do that. I still try to make it back here and there, and quite often I find myself craving Omiya--not SUSHI, in general--but OMIYA. They just have a certain uniqueness about them!
