This place brings back good memories. This use to be my go to sushi spot back in my high school and college days. This time I came back because it was my mom birthday, so I treated my parents out to lunch. One of the reasons I like this place is the rolls are cheaper here. About $3 per roll depending on what you get. They also added the buy one get one free on specialty rolls, which wasn't offer back in my school days. Ordered the Dragon Roll, rainbow roll, eel avocado hand rolls, tamago sushi, sweet shrimp, shrimp tempura, boston roll, california roll, and east roll. All the sushi we ordered were pretty delicious and solid. I wasn't a big fan on the tamago and sweet shrimp, it was bit below average to me. Found this place on a whim during a drive last year. Walked in without looking up reviews and have been a regular since. Service is always friendly, the fish is fresh and delicious with a lot of options. The appetizers are always fun to try. Love the menu specials and funny pop culture references in their items. It's a treat to dine in. While decor is simple and it seems nothing out of the ordinary.. Their plating aesthetics is always surprising and lovely in comparison to your standard local sushi restaurant which is often you get what you pay for. Staff is attentive and on point no matter if the place is packed or it's a slow night. Omiya in Bay Ridge was one of my "starter" sushi spots when i first began eating this fabulous cuisine 4 years ago. The draw at the time was the big menu of buy one get one free items which still goes strong today. Some of the items on the buy one get one have funny names and the prices rance from $7.95-$28.95. I usually overlook the buy one get one menu and go straight for the basic menu of rolls with are only $3 each! There is wide variety of $3 rolls and my favorites are the avocado eel and the spicy tuna. Their spicy sauce is VERY spicy and i love that! $1.75 yellowtail sashimi is another of my favorites with nice plump fresh cuts of fish. They have a decent variety of sake and their mochi dessert is good but they do not cut it in half unless you ask. They serve bubble tea and smoothies and have some interesting art on the walls. The waitresses have personality and the sushi chefs greet you at the door which is refreshing. Overall Omiya is a good sushi place, It's not quite an upper tier spot but worth a visit! I actually really excited to order from here since I read a review that said they loved their baked mussels so I ordered it, along with their buy one get one free deal. I ordered a Spicy Ebi & Avocado roll and the free one, I chose the Crunchy Kani roll which I didn't get.... because they gave me the wrong roll. I'm pretty sure I got a Kani Cream Cheese roll and I didn't realized that till I ate a piece. (See pictures). The Spicy Ebi & Avocado was decent, it was just meh. But the baked mussels was such a disappointment! When I got saw the baked mussels, it looked really good! Expecting the actual mussel to be under this baked goodness I see on top, I dug in with my spoon only to realize it was a mixture of already chopped up scallops, imitation crab meat, masago, and maybe tiny pieces of mussels? Actually, I'm not sure if that's even mussel on the shell. But it wasn't the best and I ate one and couldn't finish the other 3. This sushi restaurant is very average. They have buy 1 get 1 free special rolls which is probably their selling point. I ordered two rolls for $13.95 and they tasted so average. The rice was cold, flavorless, and overcooked. The fish had no taste. It was quite disappointing. And the eel on one of the rolls was extremely salty. However, the reason I give this place 3 stars is because their appetizers are awesome. They are also buy 1 get 1 free. I ordered the Hawaii island which is basically and assortment of salmon, tuna and yellowtail mixed with lettuce and avocado with their house sauce. It was really good with generous portions of avocado and fish. The Star Wars salad was fried shrimp with avocado and lettuce which was also good. Both appetizers only cost $8.95. Also, my mom really enjoys their mixed tempura udon. Their tempura is crispy but I cannot comment on the udon noodles. We ordered the Rock shrimp, Hawaii Island, Sunonomo, Calamari salad and a few sushi rolls. This sushi spot has been around for quite some time and it's a great and cheap sushi spot in the neighborhood! the lunch deals are great from 11:30-4 pm, one special is 3 rolls and comes with soup or salad for $9.95. I love coming here for a quick bite to eat and I always order the green tea, it goes great with the sushi. The fish quality isn't the top but you pay for what you get. It seems like they always have the buy 1 chef's special appetizer, get 1 free and buy 1 special roll, get 1 free deal going on and I am definitely not complaining! For the chef's special appetizers - my boyfriend and I got the Tuna/Salmon Cracker and Mango Eel. For the special roll - we got Dragon Roll and Spider roll. There was not much of a wait time for our appetizer followed by rolls to be served! Tuna/Salmon Cracker - this can easily become one's favorite appetizer! It comes in 4 pieces of seaweed cracker each topped with either tuna or salmon. The cracker had a somewhat wasabi taste to it which I find super unique. The cracker was crunchy and blended so well with either the tuna or salmon. I highly recommend this appetizer! Mango Eel - this appetizer is basically fried little pieces of eel tossed with shredded mango slices, lettuce with a special sauce. I wasn't a huge fan of this but my boyfriend was. I didn't really like how the eel tasted - it was a bit weird fried. But the mango was pretty fresh! Spider Roll - this roll came in 5 pieces (isn't standard 6?) and was definitely not up to par compared to other sushi places I tried. The crab was a bit too soggy for me. Dragon Roll - this was standard. It came in 8 pieces but they seem really tiny (look at my pics)! All of the above for less than $25!!! Conviniently located right outside the bus and train stops, this place got me HOOKED. Eat sushi every week from all kinds of places, cheap, or fancy so I am not too picky but this place hits the spot with quality sushi for cheap. The sushi! The downside to this restaurant is that they charge extra for brown rice and they don't have much vegan options. They only have the plain vegan options such as the cucumber roll. They had a point system which was cool because when you collect a certain amount of points; you get free sushi or their material gifts. Decent sushi and prices, not the best but definitely a good deal for the cheap prices. A lot of other sushi spots in bay ridge charge double the prices here. Service is just ok, atmosphere is kind of nice even though they play the same playlist with "My heart will go on" every five minutes. This is our go-to spot for really cheap sushi when we want a quick but inexpensive snack on the weekend. Takeout can also be really slow, depending on when you order. I just wasted $33 to find out that the fish was spoiled and sour and the bubble tea watery and artificially sweetened. So disappointed in Omiya. I have ordered from this restaurant for many years (more than 8). It has always been a decent place up until recently. Over the last year or so, there has been in lot of fluctuation in the orders - either in accuracy or quality of food, and so I have been weary of ordering from them lately. Tonight, I tried again; decided to stick with some "safe" choices - entries that have consistently been good, and wow - I was not prepared for it. I ordered one of their special rolls, paid the $1 for their stupid mayo, and for hot dishes got the chicken udon, and ten don. The ten don especially has always been delicious before - lots of different root veggies, eggplant, egg and plenty of tasty sauce with the shrimp. It used to be very satisfying in feel, taste and was very filling. Tonight's "offering" was basically dry, greasy tempura root veg and tempura shrimp. Underneath it all, a stingy drizzle of sauce. No egg, no flavor beyond oil. I couldn't even get through half of it. The chicken udon always gets split up into the bouillon and noodles/other. Tonight's surprise: miso soup instead of bouillon. I called them up, was told by the most disinterested voice that they decided to switch their soup base to miso 2 months ago. The picky eater for whom this was ordered, ate a few bites and decided they weren't hungry enough to go through the punishment. Not sure if they also managed to mess up the special roll - it has not been touched yet, but my patience with Omiya is exhausted. I am pissed beyond belief at them, for wasting the few dollars I can set aside for the luxury of ordering dinner, but even more so for having let themselves become yet another Bay Ridge casualty of dispirited mediocrity. Just save your money. Ramen noodles have more flavor. read more

In my order U am missing a fried green tea ice cream and the person who answered the call did not apologize and asked me to call the delivery person back because they do not delivery to my location. The person who answered the phone is extremely rude because he kept saying they made it. Why do I have to lie about it. He said he was for sure the ice cream was packed, but it was seriously not in my delivery. This is extremely disappointing because I do not want the refund, I just wanted my ice cream that was missing. From the way it was blandly described on the menu, I would have never ordered the BMW roll. MY RECOMMENDATIONS I can only recommend, based upon what I had tried, yet if you're only dining here 1 time in your life, at least order the BMW roll ($17.95 + another same-priced roll free). Stick also with the salmon sushi @ a buck a pop. So, go grab some grub, try the BMW roll, come back here, and let your brain ooze out your thoughts in your own review.
