Fantasy roll. Salmon replaces with white tuna.

I loooooove this place. They don't deserve such low rating because of some c*ap 10 years ago. I trust this place 100%! Best food! Really fresh good sushi. Service is amazing. You don't wait forever for your sushi or rolls like past reviews indicated. The atmosphere is very nice. It's a quiet local sushi place that always, always serves fresh sushi ! I so appreciate them. I never had food poisoning, never got sick after. Just amazing. They also have THE BEST Uni!!!

Sushi is always a win! Fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared -- it never disappoints. Every bite is a perfect balance of taste and texture. My go-to comfort and crave-worthy favorite!

Clockwise from the left: Yummy Roll, Devil Roll, and Umi Roll.

I've had nothing but good experiences here, whether I was dining in, ordering delivery, or getting takeout. Umi's sushi is affordable and pretty good quality. I always capitalize on their deal where you can buy two special rolls and get one free. I'm particularly obsessed with the Devil Roll, which features pepper tuna and black tobiko on top with kani salad and avocado inside. It's all topped with a slightly sweet sauce that is listed as jalapeño sauce but doesn't taste like that at all. The pepper tuna and kani salad make for a delicious combo. Some of the special rolls are hit or miss, but the Devil Roll never disappoints. The BBQ ika appetizer is also pretty good, as are the sashimi pizzas (adding a few other ingredients to these would make them even better though) and the service is fine. No hovering and constantly asking if everything is okay, which I love, but they constantly refill my tea or water, which I also love.

Ordered thru grubhub. Estimated arrival time 210pm. I called the restaurant at 215pm. "The driver is coming", said the lady on the phone. I called the second time at 246pm. "The driver left long time ago. Let me see what happen. I'm sorry, thank you for waiting", said the same lady on the phone. Driver called at 250pm to say he was arriving. I didn't get my order until 252pm. You know how when you pick up a piece of sushi roll it keeps it's round shape. Well, as I picked up a piece it fell apart immediately. The seaweed was soggy, no longer keeping the sushi rolls round shape. My order was obviously left somewhere, either indoors or outdoors, neglected by this evidence. Like a hungry fool I am, I ate it. I just hope I don't get sick later... Also, I just glimpsed at the health violations listed here. Is that legit?? Wished I'd seen it before I ordered.

Its a very long wait. I had a party of 3 and waited almost 2 hours. Food was the usual buffet food, nothing special except for the grilled lobster. The line for the lobster is long but moves fast.

I like this place and im disapointed at their conduct and customer sercive.I placed an order at 2.16pm. I had the lunch special 3 rolls for 9.95 and a chicken teriaky. When i got my order i checked the price of chicken teriaky and it was 14.95. None of the prices listed for the lunch special. I called to ask why was i charged the price and the reception told me i was given dinner plate. I asked why, when it is lunch time. He said unless i request they give you the higher price. They do not give lunch special after 4, why do they think they have a right to charge dinner prices during lunch?! They also did not give the soup that came with the rolls. I had to call to get it. I was their customer for over 10 years, wont be returning back. So long Umi!

Went back recently to give it another chance and I've got to say, they've improved over the years. Maybe they got a new chef, the sushi I ordered turned out descent amount of fish inside the rolls and less crunch.

Brighton beach roll, salmon avocado roll, salmon sushi and yellowtail sushi

Consistently good sushi. Definitely my go to delivery spot in the neighborhood. I especially love the Brighton Beach roll and their yellowtail sushi is super fresh!

Veggie teriyaki ... uncooked zucchini and onions :(((( very disappointed

The fish was very fresh and good quality. We tried the fried purple yams, fried chicken, stir fried udon, yakisoba, and a variety of sushi platters. I would highly recommend the Tokyo Don which was a variety of fish and seafood on a bed of rice. The Salmon Lover's was also excellent, and slices of fish were nice and thick. Service: Service was wonderful! Our waiter was attentive and came back to check on us throughout the meal. There's a button to press when you need service, and our waiter was always quick to come after we pressed it. Ambiance: The restaurant is a good size with tables sectioned off into small "rooms". There are two private rooms downstairs that fit about 6-7 people each. The rooms are adjoining and good for large groups. Seating downstairs is the Japanese-style tables where you put your legs into a pit under the table. Decor and ambiance is very nice, and seating is comfortable. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant!

It was an absolute lifesaver that kept the girls happily entertained. And the food was absolutely worth savoring. We kicked things off with a round of handrolls--salmon avocado, spicy salmon, and yellowtail--which were perfectly crisp and packed with fresh fish. I went all in on the Salmon Lovers set, and it was an absolute dream. It came with a massive, beautiful spread of salmon sushi, seven thick pieces of melt-in-your-mouth sashimi, a salmon avocado roll, a bright kani salad, and a really savory piece of grilled salmon. We also shared the Ysukiji sushi platter, which featured a gorgeous, high-quality assortment of cuts, while the Smoked Chicken bento box was a huge hit, offering fantastic cooked flavors and generous portions. The room we were in mimicked a traditional Japanese room where everyone had to sit on the floor and put their legs under the table. It was fun for the younger people but it was difficult for the elders to sit down and get back up. Between the incredibly fresh sushi and the warm hospitality that kept the whole family smiling the entire time, this spot easily earned five stars. We can't wait to come back!

The amount of noodles is decent and the toppings are pretty good the egg actually come with both half's rather than one like some places so that's good, my only gripe is that the cha siu isn't heated through after being served which tells me that they didn't torch it for long enough before serving. That usually also makes it less tender as the middle is still a little coagulated from being chilled prior. I would also assume that chicken broth is less calorie dense than pork so I also felt less guilty drinking it all. The staff is friendly and quick enough with the service and they also have rotation test menu items which is nice but there's a few items on their regular menu they are always out of like their oyster pancake

Tables are abit small especially when meals are always serve in large platters. The table barely fit all the dishes so they had to remove the condiment tray to make space but it's not ideal with the squirming kids. I suggest changing some of the plate sizing to better fit the tables. The condiment tray have 4 sauces available: ketchup, sweet & sour sauce or is it sweet chili sauce?, hot sauce and low sodium soy sauce. They also do not provide the claypot sweetened soy sauce. The only soy sauce available (is low sodium) but that makes the dish saltier. Great service and good food. The baked rice dish- do not recommend. My friend said HK Tea is better. The sizzling platters are soo goood. Of the claypot rice, the classic pork ribs is the best. Chicken one was too dry for hubby's taste. The HK milk tea taste malty which one of us enjoy and another did not. Their regular rice plate portion size is abit small. The noodles are abit bland if you order that instead of rice to go with the sizzling plate. Veggies are just steamed and healthy but wish they were seasoned. The condiment tray should also include salt and pepper.

A couple was sitting in there when we arrived and left soon after, meaning we were the only ones there. They had a handful of takeout orders so not completely no business. This place doesn't necessarily have anything "bad" but there's nothing much "good" about it. It's very 86th street. I would rather eat at Wasabi. We ordered (right to left, top to bottom in my pic): dragon, Hawaii, white Russian, Brooklyn, spider Favorite was the white Russian maybe because the tuna on top was torched. The menu didn't note that. Least favorite was either the Brooklyn or Hawaii. General comment on all of them is that they skimp on ingredients. My photo doesn't show their cross section but basically the ingredients are not well balanced on the insides. The seafood is always the least represented ingredient. If you look at the Brooklyn roll (shrimp, kani, tempura crunch), the insides are 80% tempura crunch, 10% shrimp, and 10% kani. The spider roll should be a whole soft shell crab fried and rolled in. The batter was twice the thickness of the crab. I miss the way Wasabi has thick crab meat and it comes out piping hot. Another general comment that I find is an issue across all Brooklyn sushi places is that the rice isn't tart at all. It didn't come out hot but at least it wasn't dry and hard. I like how their menu has pictures of all rolls, but most didn't appeal to us for some reason. Wasabi's presentation is much better. I also like how Wasabi's menu would tell you which items are cooked. That's helpful for those who don't want to eat raw fish. Service was good. We were in and out of this place in 30 min. I joked we can go back to Wasabi for sushi part two. The lady was diligent about filling our teacups even though we needed refills two minutes apart from each other. Good that tea was hot. She didn't give us a weird look or anything when we didn't order more food. She also reminded us about the 5% discount if pay by cash. Also all the employees speak canto

I absolutely love their Thai fried chicken, which is so affordable (8 pieces for $12), and tastes so crispy on the outside but so moist and flavorful on the inside. It comes with a tangy fish sauce, but you can add different green curry and/or red curry for 50 cents each. I like it best with the fish sauce. However, that's the Thai fried chicken is the only dish I absolutely love from this place. Everything else is very mediocre, which is unfortunate. 6 rolls bento - $15; comes with california roll, spicy tuna roll, lobster salad roll, salmon avocado roll, eel cucumber roll, shrimp tempura, kani salad, seaweed salad, and fried chicken. It's a lot of food for $15, and the sushi actually tastes decent. The kani salad, seaweed salad, and fried chicken are just tiny portions, but the fried chicken are like nuggets and taste really bad. 4/5 Mushroom noodles - $10; It's so rare to find such affordable e-fu noodles but sadly, it tastes nothing like what e-fu noodles should taste like. I wouldn't even know that they're supposed to be e-fu noodles if I just blindly tasted. I would not get this again here. 3/5 Pad see ew beef - $13; Again, like the mushroom noodles, it didn't taste like pad see ew. It's missing that sweetness and charred factor that's usually present in pad see ew. 3/5 Pad Kra Pao (??) - I can't remember if it's this dish that I got, but it was some type of Thai rice dish with a meat sauce. It was so terrible, I only ate 10% of it and didn't take it to go. 1/5 Pad thai - I didn't try it but my friend got it and the color looked really off. Aside from the food, there are other improvements to be made here. It seems like a family-run restaurant, with only two workers facing the customers.
