We had a phenomenal experience at Verne Club last week while visiting Buenos Aires. There are a…read morenumber of "speakeasy" type of bars in BA and they love the secretive concept. But Verne Club was the single most authentic feeling speakeasy type of bar we visited while in BA. It's not hard to get into, and it's not hard to make a reservation. You can do it right from their website. But the bar itself is completely unassuming and if you're not careful you would walk right by it assuming it's a house on a quiet neighborhood street. Not so. Once we walked in we were seated immediately for our reservation. It was a Sunday night and relatively empty at 10pm, but by 11pm the place had filled up to a decent amount. While not every cocktail was perfect (the wine cocktails were a little weird) - they have two special cocktails that are complete slam dunks. The opium old fashioned was one of the best drinks I've ever had (and it was with Jim Beam of all things!) and the Jazmin Blanco was possibly one of the second best drinks I've ever had. Both are amazing. Try them both. The opium old fashioned comes smoking at your table and the inhale experience on your first sip is unforgettable. The food is also very good and the hot dogs were excellent. While my friend and I left around 1am, our husbands stayed on and ended up staying and chatting with Samurai, the owner, after the bar closed for the night. Verne Club was by far one of our most memorable experiences in Buenos Aires and one of our most enjoyable nights. If you're into craft cocktails, and a cool and chill vibe, this is the place for you.

Rating: 3.2/5 [dine in]…read more Saw great reviews for this spot, so we decided to swing by. Service was great, and they spoke English as well, which was helpful. Unfortunately, the drinks didn't quite live up to the hype compared to other cocktail bars we tried that day. White Jasmine ($11,500 ARS): Heraclito London Dry Gin, Cardamom, Lemon Honey, Jasmine Tea (ABV 18.8%). Better than the 1869. You can pick up the flavors, but the lemon honey aftertaste was a bit too strong. 1869 ($12,500 ARS): Havana 7 Rum, Zuelo Torrontés Vinegar, Dates, Pomegranate (ABV 19.6%). Sweet, but the alcohol flavor overpowered everything else. Also, the foam topping was too heavy.

Chori happened to be close to our hotel so headed over for an early dinner on Thursday around 6:30…read more The place was empty but right before ordering noticed "reserved" signs were being placed on the tables. Turned out a couple of Food tours were arriving soon. Lucky we were ordering takeaway. Smaller spot with just about an equal amount of in/outdoor seating. We ordered a couple of the Guest Chori's-The Juan Pedro Caballero (pork) and the Carneceria (beef). Juan Pedro had tortilla chips and peppers and the pork chorizo sausage was saltier than the beef. We ordered a Chimichurri sauce on the side and enjoyed it. We liked the Pork more than the Beef-just was more flavorful. The Bread was thick, soft and held up to the Choripan and condiments well. Potato salad with al dente potatoes was tasty. They also have beer and cocktails so ordered a Gin and Tonic while we waited for our order. Friendly people behind the counter. Food was ready in about 15 minutes. That said, I can see they could get busy and have longer wait times. Make this stop for local grilled sausage deliciousness.

They served mostly chori and one morci (blood) sausage sandwiches but with a twist with their toppings. You could get just the sandwich or combine with side and drink. I picked the Invitado Juan Pedro Caballero and the cashier hesitated before entering the order as she wanted me to know it was picante. I assured her it was not a problem and then paid with my credit card. After a short wait, they called my name and I picked up my choripan. it was quite the handful filled with layers of roasted peppers, tortilla chips, onions and lettuce. The tortilla chips were stale but overall I liked the flavors especially with the heat from the peppers and chipotle mayo. It was a nice twist on the popular choripan.
