It was my daughters birthday and I told her to choose a restaurant to celebrate at. My daughter looked up hibachi restaurants in Calgary and OMO was at the top of the list. So I made a reservation for my daughter, her boyfriend and me. My daughter could not have made a better choice. Vincent was our grill chef. He made the entire night so much fun. Vincent's crazy sense of humour, grill skills and mastery with cooking made for an unforgettable evening. We had the seafood teppanaki,which was a lobster tail, shrimp, scallops and squid. This was all cooked in front of us in the grill to perfection. The best seafood I have had in Calgary. There was so much food I only managed to eat a third. I took the leftovers home (not available if it's all you can eat night btw) and had a full meal. Oh yes, I almost forgot, the robot sous chef (video attached). I loved the robot sous chef. This place has a great atmosphere. Initially, we thought we were entering a restaurant with a grill attached to the table similar to a Korean BBQ place. However, entering the place we realize it was a Japanese Teppanyaki. We were lucky to arrive at the right time without a reservation to get a table because the restaurant was packed. They have a large selection in their menu but I do recommend the Teppenyaki dishes so you get the true experience and a show. Each grill is assigned a chef that will do a mini fire show in front of you as he prepares your food. Our chef was very cute and did a super job interacting with us and we were lucky enough to have another chef behind him doing a similar show. Therefore, we got to see 2 chef's doing their thing. :) (Watch my video and you will know what I mean). This is my 3rd time having the Teppanyaki experience. I have been once in Toronto and once in Cuba. This is by far the best experience with the best atmosphere! The servers were very attentive and wonderful. The only negative thing I noticed about this restaurant was they used styrofoam bowls to serve soup and salad which is so bad for the environment. The restaurant is also very crowded. There are plexiglass to separate each party but we were sitting quite close to other parties for a pandemic. The food was very delicious and it's a perfect restaurant for a large party that wants a good night out. I definitely will be coming back. Went to OMO on a late Friday night. It was after 9:30 and they were nice enough to still serve us at the grill. The restaurant decor is very nice. The service: Our server was Kathy and she's great. She's nice and helpful. We got our soup, salad and sushi quickly. Our chef was Quentin. He's funny and very skilled. My friend and I talked to Quentin the entire time and had a great time. He made us a huge fire show and it was a lot of fun. He also made good recommedation on how he thinks the meat cooks best. We're glad that we listen to his recommendation. He's also very funny too. The food: We ordered Wagyu beef, and seafood trio. We also order the mango sushi roll. The meat was AMAZING! The shrimp and lobster were great. However, I will recommend you not order the scallop. They didn't taste fresh and were a lot smaller than expected for the price that we were paying. The veggies were alright. The veggies came with the meal weren't the best selection. However, the extra order of Japanese mushroom was absolutely AMAZING. The meal also came with ice-cream. It was a very nice touch. I wish that they would cook the fried rice on the grill in front of us like most other Teppanyaki Grill that I've been to all over the country. I'd also like it if they would serve fried noodles. I really enjoyed this restaurant. I recommend going at lunch as their lunch specials are a really good deal. They have a NY steak lunch express that comes with miso soup, mixed vegetables, rice and a 8oz NY steak for $11.99. Our party also tried the Alberta Brant Wagyu Beef which came with shrimp, grilled vegetables, soup, salad, rice and 6oz of Brant Wagyu Beef and ice cream for $55. The chef was super personable and made our party really enjoy ourselves, especially my 3 year old niece who loved her chicken teriyaki meal. There is plenty of parking at the plaza and the restaurant didn't seem too busy when we went but I still made a reservation just in case. The Wagyu beef itself was really delicious. It was A3 grade so not as fatty as the traditional japanese A5 Wagyu but still yummy. The chef cooked everything in front of us perfectly and always ensures the steak was cooked to perfection. I would love to return to try their other dishes such as the $99 4oz Wagyu beef from Japan. read more

I have been to this restaurant a few times and have enjoyed the experience. however last night our experience was terrible. We had a reservation and we seated late for the reservation as they were very busy when we were seated, we were presented with our soup and salad almost immediately, our meal was rushed as we were eating our main course they were bringing dessert. We ate the salad after the meal when the bill was presented to us was $450 with an added gratuity of 20% automatically. This was not noted prior to presenting the bill and given the rush experience, I don't think they deserved a 20% gratuity. I felt like we were on a conveyor belt because they were busy but they need to know is that when you have good customers who make a reservation regularly then if you are overbooked just tell people and don't rush your patrons through like a conveyor belt. we will not be back read more

Extremely loud with people constantly shouting. The cooks are yelling and banging utensils incessantly onto no end. The place should give out ear plugs. The people working there are in danger of permanent hearing loss most likely. All of the food is cross-contaminated, which is expected. The serving people are nice but they touch the food with their fingers as they put it down. My brother ordered steak and they gave it to someone else and gave him ginger beef that he doesn't like. Took over 27 minutes to get that and the vegetables under were all ruined with that flavor. So, we left. We didn't want to wait another 30 minutes for the steak and wait for the vegetables to be recooked. They didn't charge since he didn't eat anything while waiting. This place was like a great breath of fresh air. I have bee to jap village but they rush you out there. Here at OMO Teppan you are treated like a friend coming for dinner. I did not try the sushi but I would imagine it would be fantastic just like the dinner. Mark was our number one chef and I highly recommend him for entertainment . The yum yum sauce is fantastic too. OMO also has a complete full bar to choose from. Not sure how long they have been here but I am so glad they are here now as I will become a regular. I am part of a dinner club and go out monthly. We came here to try Omo Teppan after our oldest son recommended it . He said it was similar to Japanese Village and had gone twice here. We met with all our family for supper on a Sunday night and we all enjoyed it very much . Lots of easy parking . The new tables had an aqua lighted glow & beautiful! The chef we had was very entertaining and excellent! Several of us had the steak & shrimp combo . I love their sauces served and especially over rice . So tasty ! A truly bizarre end to our dinner that I've never experienced before in my life. We were part of a party of 5 in the karaoke room which was originally a party of 8 before icy roads and near-zero visibility caused 3 people not to show up. Before anyone took our orders we were completely upfront that we only had 5 people, and no staff communicated that this was a problem. Food was fine. Definitely had the "teppanyaki tax" built into the price (even though it's *not* cooked in front of you), but otherwise basically what you'd expect. Their karaoke system is an Apple TV hooked up to YouTube, which is actually a pretty great way to do it and I hope more restaurants ditch the ancient karaoke software too. So, props for that. The issues came at the end. First, we had to pass on our desserts (which we paid for as part of our dinners) because the OMO staff were going to charge us for another hour in the karaoke room if we had stayed to finish our food. Keep in mind that we were sat at 6:00pm, ordered right away, got our food at 6:40pm, and were hurried out at 7:10pm. If that sounds a little odd, it gets weirder. When our server brought us our bills, our server started berating us with a list of grievances like she was Martin heckin' Luther: Why did we only have 5 people in our party instead of 8? We should consider ourselves lucky that we weren't charged a 20% surcharge. And so on. To reiterate, no one told us our group would be a problem when we told the staff we only had 5 people. The restaurant was very empty because of the bad weather so it's not like we were taking the room away from anyone. If the staff wanted to enforce a 6 person minimum they were free to move us to the dining room before they took our orders when we told them no one else is coming. Will not be going back. Their booth had many great options including: - spicy tuna roll - spicy china roll - nitro coffee - nitro tea - california roll - spicy salmon roll - avocado roll - macha macaron ice cream - burnt tea macaron ice cream - teriyaki beef - teriyaki chicken - japanese waigu steak the nitro tea and nitro coffee wasn't anything special but it was still interesting. I came here twice in one week because my first time I ordered their pork belly with rice and I was in love! It came with super tender flavourful fatty pork with rice vegetables and thee most delicious roasted Brussels sprouts you will ever try!!! (I know ick brusselsprouts but TRY IT now I'm in love with Brussels sprouts only if they are cooked this way) other than that the restaurant Teppan is almost exactly the same as Japanese village. Same show and same food but I prefer the parking here better than downtown. Second time I came I ordered the cauliflower casserole yuck and yuck for the Salsbury steak. This place is so good! My boyfriend and I are from California. We were spending one night in Calgary before heading to Banff and wanted to go to a nice place to celebrate lots of things including our anniversary. This place caught our eye. I saw they had so many options and my boyfriend was set on wagyu. We get there and right off the bat staff is friendly and welcoming. We ordered our food, truffle fries were amazing, my chicken and beef teriyaki plate was delicious, but the wagyu was on a different level! So worth it!! Alam was nice, personable, and attentive and our chef Sam was too. This place treats you like superstars. The other family at our table was celebrating a birthday and at the end of the night the staff had us all dressed up in traditional Japanese attire, we took pics, held a sword, and they sang songs with instruments! It was so fun! Oh and the ice cream, yum! The owner Winnie (I'm so sorry if that's spelled wrong) was awesome. I wish we could come here more often! A must try! Not many people know about this gem in Calgary. It is the only restaurant in Calgary that serves Wagyu beef - they carry Wagyu beef imported from Japan as well as Alberta Brant Lake Wagyu. They specialize in teppanyaki but also have a variety of sushi/sashimi and different dishes. Their chef was trained in Japan and is very skilled on the teppanyaki table as well as his sushi/sashimi presentations. I took my 7 yo here just so he can experience teppanyaki and he hasn't stopped talking about it since. I had an authentic kobe beef teppanyaki in Japan just a few months ago and quite enjoyed the experience, so I was hoping OMO would be something comparable. So we came shortly after the lunch rush and there were only a handful of diners, but we got seated at a new table with others. We quickly placed our order and shortly after the chef started his show. It was interactive, the chef was really nice and friendly and the food was really good! My son had the chicken and wouldn't stop eating it. I got the filet mignon and it was tender and flavorful. The wagyu nigiri had amazing flavors and it simply melted in my mouth. Overall it was a really great experience and I am looking forward to return soon. This visit was spur of the moment because OMO was on the right side of the street and Japanese sounded good. We shared vegetable and sweet potato tempura and wagyu spring rolls and both were very good, although, really, what is the point of wasting wagyu beef in a spring roll? Our server, I think his name was Alan, was attentive and totally charming. This location seems to be the kiss of death for restaurants so I hope OMO stays around. The reason I didn't give it five stars was because of the huge TVs. OMO isn't a bar where people go to watch the hockey game so what's with the big, distracting televisions? Although have had better in Asia, still a very fine example of good teppanyaki, OMO is worth a visit. Run by a crew of asian staff, the chicken and beef tep were well executed, including the flames and fork, knife and peppershaker flying routines for the pleasure of their seated 'fans.' Our pinoy tep man, Joseph, was affable and entertaining. What comes with the meal? A pleasant sparse salad with nicely-flavoured vinagrette, lots of fresh grilled vegetables, a small bowl of fluffy unlimited rice, and your choice of meat, all tender and nicely dressed with both cooking and tableside sauces as desired. As well, portions were decent. To taper off this full feed, a small bowl of either matcha tea, vanilla or strawberry ice cream tries to do it right, but nothing special here, as ice had formed in my wife's matcha and the strawberry was plain low-end fare. At the door when leaving, every group on this father's day got to spin a wheel for a contest draw or free small-item coupons upon a return visit. As well, they provide a loyalty card for a further 10% discount. Foxy marketing, but the impression left with us is that it's all designed to somehow soften the exorbitant prices. And, in reality, the place was sparsely seated for a sunny Father's Day. Although somewhat pricey spanning $27-50+ per person depending on the quality of your meat, it's fairly authentic and in that respect won't be a waste of your time. But that is where it stops for us: the 'vegetables only' choice at $18 is over-the-top dumb because all the regular meat meals already come with plenty of mixed veggies. Therefore to us it's just another example of milking customers to the max while they are there: I think they've got it all backwards, but knowing some history on this style of marketing, not surprised. Not unlike Harry Rosen's, a 10% discount and a small 'next time' coupon is negligible when the prices already far out-distance value. Likely never return. read more

Nice location and fun experience but left smelling of fuel and oil. I sat in the middle of our group and felt like I was in the splash zone. A hair came in the salad, the floor was very slippery and during the show hot fuel from the flames splashed on my neck, face and chest.
