Was there two weeks ago to bet simulcast Meadowlands Pace and really enjoyed the place. Clean and smoke free....there's a nice central bar and a decent menu which serves more than simple bar food. I intend to take the wife and friends there tomorrow night . This is so much better than any bingo parlor! Plus the card room was very busy with what seemed to be content players. I'm not a card player and prefer the horses. But, I can report that you can certainly have a comfortable time, here. So, go enjoy yourself! read more

After 8 years playing here I'm done. "Amateur hour" is the best way to describe this room. Having played here regularly for the last eight years, I have witnessed inconsistency in dealer quality and a shocking lack of knowledge regarding standard TDA rules. During my last trip playing No-Limit Hold'em, a dealer missed the last player to act on the turn. While that player was putting out a bet, the dealer prematurely burned and turned the river card. The dealer then attempted to let the player take their bet back while keeping the exposed river card live. As a player in the hand, I had to correct the dealer, explaining that the card needed to be reshuffled and the bet had to stand. The dealer agreed to the reshuffle but still let the player pull back their bet. When I called for a floor ruling, the narrative magically changed: the dealer lied and claimed the player never bet in the first place. When I requested a surveillance camera check to verify the action, the floor supervisor flatly refused, saying, "We're not checking the camera." When management refuses to use the tools at their disposal to correct staff incompetence or dishonesty, it's time to walk away. Do yourself a favor and play at the Hard Rock in Tampa instead. read more

Nice, clean place with cheap beer. But be warned, I if you play table games and play the bonus, and do not win the hand, you do not win the bonus. For those of you who gamble you know what I mean. I lost about $100 for the two hours. I was there about $80 of that was from them taking the bonus when I lost the hand. In my opinion, it's a complete rip off. Every respectable Casino separates the poker hand from the bonus. They don't.!! read more

Hands down the worst poker room in the state of Florida. They have no idea about the rules of poker, and if you're not one of their regular players then they don't give a damn about you. Better off driving up to Tampa and playing at Hard Rock. Was in a hand that the dealer misdealed and it cost me about $200. Instead of declaring a misdeal, the so-called poker bosses used some made up rules and declared the hand live. When I objected, I was asked to leave because the guy who won was one of their regulars. I have played poker all around this world, and if this was the only place to play poker, I would give up the game!!! I used to really love this place, but after what happened this evening, I will NEVER play poker here again. read more

One Eyed Jacks is no longer at the Sarasota Dog Track. It's now in a strip mall on Bee Ridge Drive, a short drive west of I-75. The new room is at least four times the size of the old room. The bar is significantly upgraded. The west wall has the race TVs and seating area. Nothing super comfortable but good enough. Poker staff is always cordial. The dealers are a little more hit or miss on customer service. During my visit here recently, which was my first time at the new location, I came away impressed but not blown away. The poker players are still the same mix at the old place. Mostly old timers and a varied mix of skill level. Overall: 4 out of 5 read more

I played in two tournaments on a Wednesday. The 1 PM was a lot of fun, about 30 players. The 7 PM had about 150 players.....huge. I was not able to win at either tournament but the field was good, the folks were not drinking heavy and the poker was fun. I will be back. I recommend this location. It was hard to find a smoking area for my cigars....but I survived without a smoke for the day. Go, try this place. It is worth the trip f you like playing cards and especially poker. read more

I only play tournaments and while the regular tournaments are bearable in spite of a bunch of people who seem to think playing tournament poker is a place to constantly talk about themselves, tell bad jokes, and make far too much noise I had an experience at one of their major events (America's Poker Tour Spring Fling Main Event) that was so negative I need to document the problem and why I will never play in another of those and will significantly reduce my regular play there as well. The 2018 Spring Fling Main Event is an $1100 entry with a $200,000 guarantee so you would think that serious (and mostly good) poker players would show up and everyone would respect the poker room as well as the other players. This was the case for the first 90 minutes at my table until a drunken idiot was knocked out at another table, rebought, and was put at our table, where he blind shoved all his chips on the first hand, won via what is commonly called a 'suck out' and then proceed to do it at least 5 more times in a row (winning 4 of them, again by 'suck out'). One of the players he eliminated during the stretch was one of the top poker pros in Florida (Mike 'The Grinder' Mizrachi), who then re-entered. He kept saying, 'I want to lose my chips so I can rebuy and play with my friends!' For an $1100 entry? Sure you did. During this time he was constantly talking, both loudly and abusively (every other word was 4 letters and started with 'f') and NOT ONCE did anyone from the card room (or the America's Poker Tour guy) ever warn him to tone it down. The America's Poker Tour guy, in fact, encouraged him by shooting video and taking photos of all his chips nor did they stop serving him drinks (he had two drinks stacked at the table plus another one in his hand). One of the players who this idiot eliminated said, after getting beat badly, 'it was worth the $1100 not to have to sit next to you'. This went on for well over an hour until the next break, by that time I was so disgusted I started playing as if I didn't care what happened and was eliminated after the break by another player after going all in with a marginal hand. For the record, I play fairly good tournament poker (I finished in the top 5 on the tournament leader board in January and will be in the top 5 in March as well) and have won over $10K in tournament poker at this room in 2018 so this is not whining, this is simply stating the facts. If this tournament was at any other card room at a casino and most dog tracks he would have been given a one round penalty for abusive language within 5 minutes and he would have either stopped or been thrown out of the tournament soon after. This behavior and lack of management is completely unacceptable and it is too bad, the dealer are, for the most part, really good, and many of the players are respectful of the game and the room read more

I'm mostly a tournament player but do enjoy a little cash. I've been coming here for years and this place was making some improvements but recently took a few huge steps back when they lost their only decent tournament director. Now tournaments are run so poorly. Board is rarely updated, and tables are almost never even. Dealers collude with regulars by allowing them to call big bets with small chips and not counting them. If you look carefully you will notice a regular put 18 black chips out to call a 2000 bet. The dealer (if they're friends) will swoop it into the pot without counting it. If you're going there to play cash with a friend or spouse don't count on sitting at the same table right away. Cash tables they want to keep perfectly even. (Unlike tournament tables) I got knocked out of a tournament and went to the desk to ask if i can sit at the open seat next to my wife to play cash for an hour or so. They said no. They wanted me to go to another table then ask for a transfer. So guess what happened. ..we both left. Again. Yes, this happens all the time. Just terrible management. read more

The only reason why i don't give 5 stars is because of one dealer. His name is Conor. If i were rating him individually, 1 star would be way too generous. I have had him as a dealer 4x and he's 0-4! He has NO control of the game and is ALWAYS distracted by something, usually whatever is on tv. On top of that, he's always bitching that he'll be here til at least 1am. We shud b the ones bitching becuz he's here. Every1 at tabke is making consistent errors becuz there's NEVER an announcement of the action taking place. He definitely cannot talk and deal at the same time. I could go on and on, but... On the other hand, every1 else is FANTASTIC! The room is run very well with great promotions! The only change I could suggest is to allow phone-ins for putting names on list...most casino's do and are at an hour these days. I believe in 2 chances so please confront Conor on the issue (management). If continuous, please then put him and us of our misery. read more

It's a little dated and the chairs are very uncomfortable to be sitting in for hours at a time. Friendly dealers, good tournaments and promotions. Had I not won I would have given them 3 stars. lol read more

Not nearly as nice or well run of a poker room as the isle, it's still better than many in Florida. They are very creative there with some bigger tournaments including Pros vs. Joes line that they run, which is an open event that includes some pros, to give the flavor of a WSOP or WPT event in sleepy little Sarasota. read more

I only play the tournaments at this place. Unfortunately most of them are poorly run with a huge rake. Any tournament under $100 isn't worth playing because of the blind structure and time per blind level. They just go up too fast. The rake is crazy. For a $45 tournament you are paying $17 to the house. Also, the dealer addon is high. You get a nice addon in chips but anytime you are giving up over %50 of your buy in not into the prize pool that tournament has serious flaws. If you like to play tournaments, the Derby in St. Pete is a much better place. read more

This place appears to be a good place to play but after further investigating, its better to go to Hard Rock. I asked about the rake and they were not honest with me. They have a 2-4-4-8 limit game that is popular for the promotion seekers. If you make a high hand(4 of a kind or better using both cards you get paid) They take 3 dollars out of a pot for this. That's the most I have ever seen. A typical pot at this game reaches between 10 and 35 but I caught the dealer taking up to 5 for the rake plus the 3 on pots under 40. Many times they take 6 after the flop is bet while the pot is 20/25. I think most of the players don't even realize what they rake. They are just a little to greedy for my taste. I've played pretty much everywhere and this place s the steepest rake percentage wise that I have ever seen. read more

Every time I go to the Dog Track, I have to wait to play the 2, 5 no limit table for 1+ hours (waited 2 hours today, with 9 ppl signed up, before I eventually left). Have no idea why this poker room never has enough dealers to open tables for ppl that sign up. If anyone from the SKC reads this, here is how you handle this issue. You open up a table when 6 or more ppl sign up. Pretty simple. Ppl that live in Sarasota don't want to make the hour drive and hour back to go up to the Hard Rock, but it looks like I'll have to from now on. Never wait more than 15 minutes there, well run and professional. read more
