The hot food is limited to two options but the deli has plenty more. The chicken and rice platter is INSANE. The gravy is gold. I think that's what NYC is paved with. The rice and fragrant and delicate. Damn, I can't speak highly enough. The small is $5 and my stomach hurts as I type this, it's too much food. Service 4/5 Andy is the owner, he's super nice. You'll usually find him at the counter. Sometimes over the summer it's his son, he's a great kid. It's family run and I love that. Ambience ? It's a bodega.

I have a vague recollection of this building being associated with the hospital many years, ago, but in this century it appears to have become a local bodega. The place looks like a poor man's late night convenience store with a grill tucked into the corner. It isn't a place I would chose to visit if not working in the area for the day. A bit grim. Still, I was able to grab a California Cheeseburger with all the trimmings, on an Italian Peoples Bakery roll, and a truckload of French Fries, for under $7. The McDonald's across the street might be cheaper and better lit, but they don't provide any of the local color, nor overstuff the sandwich the way St. Francis did. Not the best burger in my life, but far from the worst. I can understand why he was canonized. He is an amazing short order cook.

At home, it turned out that the pieces were large and well fried, without being overly oily. Yet, the parts I ate we're not moist, but on the dry side, although the flavor was decent. There are better chicken shacks in town. Still, Papi's appears to have a strong following with people walking in and cars pulling up in surprising numbers while I was there. Recently stopped here to gas up and saw they have installed new fuel pumps at each station and new…read moresignage. They were due to be upgraded. The new pumps has the touchless NFC reader, to make the transaction quicker and without touching the keypad. Also the printer works perfectly...no longer needed to go inside for your receipts. It would be great if they would return the attendant to the outside booth, in the event you need assistance...because those call buttons never work. Overall, I am pleased with the new pumps and you can pump your own gas!

That owner has departed, but the same people remain in the kitchen and are now running the show. Their orientation is somewhat different in that they have added a broad selection of ice cream and cool fruit drinks, both perfect for the Central American-type heat we have had this week. But, the food is still top notch, despite the extra refrigeration in the shop. Only 4 tables, the menu offered traditional comidas, plus Mexican platas for the growing Latin population in and around Trenton, NJ. I had the Carne Asada Tacos today. Three double tortillas, filled with sliced and diced thin grilled steak, onions, and hot chili peppers. Radish, Cucumber and Lime wedges for each taco, plus excellently grilled Jalapeno and Scallion on top of the whole shebang. Delicioso! The Chips and Salsa seemed homemade, as the corn crispies came out hot and scorched, with freshly made red and green Salsa. Really good! I also had a Bastida de Pina (Pineapple Shake), made from fruit cut just for me, milk and crushed ice. So cool, tart and refreshing. $3. Fabulosa! All this for $9.
