He really listens to patients, and uses his great experience to provide excellent care. But this past Sunday, I fell on ice and wrenched my arm. I was unable to drive safely. Monday, I went to the ER, but beyond recommending I get an MRI, they could not do much for me. I was delighted when the folks at Gather Health set me up with a free ride to their office to have Dr. Harati check me out the day I called! He referred me to an orthopedic surgeon in Braintree, and again, I wondered how I would get there. And again, Gather Health arranged a free ride to and from the orthopedist's office. I was also amazed at how fast the referral appointment was set up - the very next day. When the orthopedist wanted me to get an MRI, Gather Health arranged another free ride to and from the MRI at Shields in Dorchester, on Thursday. At 6 PM on Friday night, Dr. Harati called me at home to let me know he had received the MRI report that afternoon, and give me the results. At every step of the way, the folks at Gather Health have made it easy for me to get the care I needed, and to get it quickly. I had no hope of getting such quick results in this day and age. And the support to get me rides to all the appointments has just been so welcome. I have never had health care like this, and really am so grateful to Dr. Harati and the whole team at Gather Health. The pain was excruciating, and continued to get worse over time. One of my colleagues who was seriously injured in a surfing incident a year earlier, that basically destroyed his shoulder (broken bones etc) had been treated by Dr. Tim Hartshorn, and recovered completely recommended that I go see him. I did, and I IMMEDIATELY knew I was in the right place, with the right doctor. Ultimately, I required surgery to repair my shoulder, but prior to actually scheduling surgery, I needed to finish out the work season on light duty. Dr. Hartshorn gave me direct steroid injections to the shoulder joint over the course of the next few months to get me through the rest of that season. At the end of the season, I went in for surgery in the morning, and was back home that afternoon. Almost immediately, Dr. Hartshorn had me on a physical therapy routine that got me moving my newly repaired shoulder in short order. Over the course of the next several weeks, the pain subsided, my range of motion returned as I continued physical therapy, and in less than 3 months, I was back at work with no restrictions. What you need to understand is that prior to seeing Dr. Hartshorn, I could not even hold a coffee cup in my left hand without serious pain. The act of threading a belt through my pant loops required assistance from my wife. Sleeping was nearly impossible and I was a wreck due to lack of sleep. Surgery takes time to fully heal from, and I knew that going in. It also takes commitment by you, to do the exercises, and range of motion stretches prescribed by your physical therapist or doctor. If you don't do that, you will not recover completely. I knew that going in as well. Dr. Hartshorn made sure I knew that this was not going to be easy, or fun, but it (the PT and stretchers) was absolutely necessary for fast recovery and the best possible outcome. Without question or reservation of any kind, I can absolutely say that if you are reading this because you have injured your shoulder, and are at the point where a solution other than you just "roughing it out" is necessary, and you have found Dr. Tim Hartshorn, Your are one fortunate individual. It is my belief that you will NOT find a better physician, surgeon or human being than Dr. Tim Hartshorn. Congratulations, and rest easy. You are in the right place. For those wondering why, 2+ years later I might be here writing a review for Dr. Hartshorn, it is really simple. I have since injured my other shoulder, and have been in the care of a doctor who was prescribed by workers comp out here in California. I am miserable, I require surgery and I decided to reach out to Dr. Hartshorn to see if he would be willing to look at my MRI and perhaps give me a recommendation for surgeons he personally knows and would comfortably recommend out here in Cali. Well, being the rock star that he is, as I mentioned in my first paragraph, Dr. Hartshorn called me directly himself. He took my scans for two seconds then someone walked in. He had me waiting in scan room all set up for 30 minutes. Then he let me out and had me wait in the chair for 20 minutes. Then talked about Invisalign for two seconds. And then demanded money. He didn't even check the insurance stuff.This office shouldn't exist.The doctor treated the people who walked in after me better. This is not just an orthodontist it's also a dentist office. He said he had an opening at 1pm for Saturday. I asked if we could meet at 10am instead which he agreed. (Be mindful of this as it's important later). On Saturday, I called the office to explain I was about 10min behind which the front desk person said he'd let Dr. Butt know. I arrive and fill out my paperwork. I wait and wait. I'm finally motioned to the back office. A young man puts a paper bib around my neck and enters information into a flat screen on the wall, telling me the Dr. will be in shortly. He also advised that no one actually scheduled me in the system for the visit. And so I wait, and wait. The information on the flat screen is patients names, numbers, and why they will be seen. This was very concerning for me. Finally, Dr. Butt arrives and asks if I was there for cleaning or invisalign. I explained neither, that I'm here for a consultation because I'm interested in braces. He puts on gloves and does a 5 second physical examination of my mouth. He again pushes Invisalign, tells me the price and how long treatment will take. He asks if I have questions and begins to motion to leave when I say I do. I begin my questions and though he answers ( I liked his responses) he continued twice to look behind him at the flat screen which displays the time. He then says if I have additional questions to email and he'll respond. As he gets up to leave he makes a remark that really upset me. He made a comment about not having time to do consults on Saturdays as it's a very busy day for him. Now mind you, he's the one who told me to come in on Saturday. Needless to say, I will not be a patient at this practice. Proper communication and bedside manner are imperative for me. If you plan on seeing your orthodontist for 1-3 years for braces/Invisalign you need to have rapport built and comfortable with that person. I did not feel valued as a prospective patient at all. ETA: my consultation I was told would take 30min however I spent more like 5-7 min with Dr. Butt on the consultation.

We were late to our appointment and they were very understanding. My concerns: They strongly suggested my son get teeth sealants. I was told that day that our insurance covered the procedure. Prior to our visit, I provided all my insurance, as is required at every dental office I have used. My son's sealants were done in December 2024. I received a call in March 2025 indicating that my insurance wasn't accepting the claim. Well, the office used an incorrect number to submit the claim. I provided the correct information, again. Long story short, after being told my insurance was not getting back to them (this was not true)I had to call my insurance myself; a representative from my insurance company called them directly, while I was one the other line, to tell them that they had not submitted a claim for the procedure correctly, and the information I had provided, more than once, was correct. Smile Ave Dental had my insurance on file prior to our appointment. At no point did the office inform me that they were out-of-network and used budget balancing. In other words, they charge for what the insurance doesn't cover. They never shared that information with me, and I specifically asked if they accepted our insurance. Several calls later and back and forth with their office and claims department, it's April 2025, and they just submitted the claim again and they still can't tell me what I may owe for that procedure. They seem like nice people. I don't believe this was malicious; I certainly hope not, but we won't be going back.

I have had dental extractions performed by three highly renowned oral surgeons in three different cities: DC, San Francisco, and now Boston, and this is the first time of all those procedures that I was not in significant pain beyond two days afterward. Dr. Lucca is extraordinary. Not only does he have impeccable bedside manner but his kindness, grace, and compassion, especially during what was an emergency procedure for me were extraordinary. His surgical expertise is on another high level caliber entirely. I stopped taking pain medication on day two, and by day three I was in minimal pain. Given my past experiences, I was honestly so shocked that I scheduled a follow-up office visit just to make sure nothing had gone wrong because I *wasn't* in pain anymore. How oxymoronic is that? Dr. Lucca's precision that I could observe during my surgery (this was a local anesthesia surgery), his reassuring explanations, him answering my innumerable questions, and his calm demeanor completely changed what I expected from oral surgery. He truly made me feel at ease, reassured, and relaxed. For the first time ever, in that I can remember, I walked away from a dental extraction surgery experience feeling genuinely cared for instead of traumatized. That says everything. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the front office staff as well -- Raquel, Courtney, Bossie, and Hailee were all incredibly professional, caring, calming, and kind. I came into this office in intense pain with anxiety levels soaring higher than a kite, and every single person made me feel genuinely seen, heard, validated my feelings and pain, and made me feel cared for. That matters more than people realize, especially when you are facing oral surgery and already terrified. I am also seriously impressed by the office's technology and communication systems. You can text the office instead of calling, and they respond incredibly quickly, often within 15-30 minutes. As someone who dreads phone calls, that alone was amazing. I am never calling them again, it's only going to be all texts. Like how easy and amazing is that!!! I think all doctors' offices should employ this technology. It should become the standard in how we communicate with doctors instead of phone calls. Dr. Lucca's Oral Surgical practice truly has it all: an extraordinarily skilled surgeon (Dr. Lucca) paired with an exceptional support team. The follow-up care, attention to detail, compassion, professionalism, and surgical skill are simply unmatched. If you have dental anxiety, need an oral surgeon, or want meticulous, compassionate care from beginning to end, I cannot recommend Dr. Lucca and this practice highly enough. I just want to share my negative experience with this office and warn other possible clients. They…read moretold me that I have to pay upfront and that they bill my insurance afterwards and then I get reimbursed by the insurance. The consultation was billed to my dental insurance and I received a reimbursement (without the co-payment amount). Next I had to get a procedure. I was told the same thing. First I pay upfront, then they bill my health insurance, which will reimburse me. Yes, they may have said they are out of network but they did not tell me to call my insurance first to approve the procedure. When time past by and I did not get the reimbursement I checked with my health insurance and the claim was denied because it was not pre-aproved. Shouldn't they have told me I should call my insurance ahead of the procedure? Don't they deal with insurance providers all the time and should know of the steps? Or were they concerned the claim was going to be rejected and they did not want my business to go somewhere else where it was covered? Hum.... They make you sign a lot of legal papers that they say explains everything. By the way, after the procedure the doctor did not fix my problem and told me I could go see another doctor.
