I recently had a negative experience here that left me unwilling to come back and feeling almost purposely misled though it is quite possible this is not the original intention. I reached out as i had to have a tooth removed as it was pretty well shattered. I let them know upfront that i just started a new job and did not currently have any health insurance as i was not yet covered. I was told no worries just to come in and they would look at it. When i arrived i referenced the previous call and informed them that i did not have health insurance. i was there for under 10 minutes most of the time in the waiting room; while there the dentist briefly looked at my mouth seeing that the tooth was quite obviously shattered and then took a quick X-ray. I was handed the slip required to have it removed from a different practice at the front desk. When the conversation seemed to have ended i asked the woman at the desk if i owed them any thing, where as she responded with "Nope you're all set." I later received a bill from them weeks later. When i reached out to the office about the bill i had received i was responded to in a much more professional and polite manner; but of which can be summarized to: "well of course you have to pay, you came to a dentist office." I am well aware that as the consumer i am expected to pay for services when offered, however as it pertains to this experience i genuinely felt misled. Though i expected to pay when i first reached out to the company; at multiple points in our dealings it was reinforced that i was "all set" even when requesting information about what the cost would be. It is absolutely possible that this was simply a miscommunication however my requesting to pay my bill on the way out the door and being told i was "All set" cemented in my mind that this company valued me as a customer and they were looking out for me when i needed it. As previously stated with this not being the case it left me feeling quite the opposite. In this case i was the customer requesting information about what this transaction would cost making it clear i did not have insurance; and my concerns were brushed aside with full understanding that i would have to pay them despite the cost and was therefor not considered when it came down to what services to offer and was not informed of what this would cost me. It left me with the impression that the practice down the street that i have been coming to since i was a child was not concerned with the position i was in; and was equality impersonal enough to not inform me of what their services would cost me, even when openly asking to pay the bill while at the front desk. The ambiguous discussion of payment left me feeling mislead with the original impression that the company valued me; where as that same ambiguity left me unwilling to return to this company with the impression that they were not even concerned enough to answer my questions about billing even when standing directly in front of them.

I have had dental extractions performed by three highly renowned oral surgeons in three different cities: DC, San Francisco, and now Boston, and this is the first time of all those procedures that I was not in significant pain beyond two days afterward. Dr. Lucca is extraordinary. Not only does he have impeccable bedside manner but his kindness, grace, and compassion, especially during what was an emergency procedure for me were extraordinary. His surgical expertise is on another high level caliber entirely. I stopped taking pain medication on day two, and by day three I was in minimal pain. Given my past experiences, I was honestly so shocked that I scheduled a follow-up office visit just to make sure nothing had gone wrong because I *wasn't* in pain anymore. How oxymoronic is that? Dr. Lucca's precision that I could observe during my surgery (this was a local anesthesia surgery), his reassuring explanations, him answering my innumerable questions, and his calm demeanor completely changed what I expected from oral surgery. He truly made me feel at ease, reassured, and relaxed. For the first time ever, in that I can remember, I walked away from a dental extraction surgery experience feeling genuinely cared for instead of traumatized. That says everything. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the front office staff as well -- Raquel, Courtney, Bossie, and Hailee were all incredibly professional, caring, calming, and kind. I came into this office in intense pain with anxiety levels soaring higher than a kite, and every single person made me feel genuinely seen, heard, validated my feelings and pain, and made me feel cared for. That matters more than people realize, especially when you are facing oral surgery and already terrified. I am also seriously impressed by the office's technology and communication systems. You can text the office instead of calling, and they respond incredibly quickly, often within 15-30 minutes. As someone who dreads phone calls, that alone was amazing. I am never calling them again, it's only going to be all texts. Like how easy and amazing is that!!! I think all doctors' offices should employ this technology. It should become the standard in how we communicate with doctors instead of phone calls. Dr. Lucca's Oral Surgical practice truly has it all: an extraordinarily skilled surgeon (Dr. Lucca) paired with an exceptional support team. The follow-up care, attention to detail, compassion, professionalism, and surgical skill are simply unmatched. If you have dental anxiety, need an oral surgeon, or want meticulous, compassionate care from beginning to end, I cannot recommend Dr. Lucca and this practice highly enough. I genuinely do not have enough words to express how grateful and impressed I am. Thank you so much, Dr. Lucca (and Racquel, Hailee, Bossie, and Courtney!).

I just want to share my negative experience with this office and warn other possible clients. They…read moretold me that I have to pay upfront and that they bill my insurance afterwards and then I get reimbursed by the insurance. The consultation was billed to my dental insurance and I received a reimbursement (without the co-payment amount). Next I had to get a procedure. I was told the same thing. First I pay upfront, then they bill my health insurance, which will reimburse me. Yes, they may have said they are out of network but they did not tell me to call my insurance first to approve the procedure. When time past by and I did not get the reimbursement I checked with my health insurance and the claim was denied because it was not pre-aproved. Shouldn't they have told me I should call my insurance ahead of the procedure? Don't they deal with insurance providers all the time and should know of the steps? Or were they concerned the claim was going to be rejected and they did not want my business to go somewhere else where it was covered? Hum.... They make you sign a lot of legal papers that they say explains everything. By the way, after the procedure the doctor did not fix my problem and told me I could go see another doctor.

Had to follow up a week later and got an automatic reply and then 4 days later, an actual reply. But I still have to jump through hoops to read it because they only correspond through the app and my account is no longer active. In their response, they doubled down and still are requiring my payment of over $180. The reply explains how insurance and billing work and deductibles. I understand all of this. My complaint specifically is that they are charging over $700/hour for virtual health care that - in my case - didn't even address my issue. I fully understand that US health insurance is broken. But this specific issue with One Medical is that they have the audacity to charge as much as they do for a virtual visit. I am done wasting my time with the back and forth. I thought for a minute they might do the right thing and offer a discount on my payment - we all know their owner (Bezos) can surely afford it - but they didn't. I'm pretty disappointed. My son has been a patient here since he was about 2 or 3. We saw Dr. Z…read moreonce or twice but both times waited at least an hour past appt time. Instead we saw Deborah Katcher NP. She was extremely knowledgeable with food allergies and great personality. We really liked her. The past few visits they had switched me to Amanda, who is an NP. Although she is very friendly, I feel that she is not as knowledgeable. The last time, my son visited, he was at the end of a cold, and she diagnosed him with a sinus infection and give him a Z-Pak. He had no pain in his sinuses, no fever, just yellow mucous. She stated because of the coloring of the mucus he has an infection. I am a registered nurse and know that the color of mucus does not determine an infection and that is an old myth. The color of snot does not dictate whether it is a viral or bacterial infection. Over prescribing antibiotics is not beneficial for anyone. When I left, I scheduled my next appointment with Deb and received a voicemail that my appointment with Amanda was canceled. I called back and informed them that I didn't want to see Amanda but would prefer to see Deb. That is when they informed me that Deb is no longer there. I feel that she may have left a while ago and I just was never informed in the sentence sit well with me as we were patients with her for a long time. So I left the practice. The other issue I don't love about this practice as I feel they price gauge your insurance. For example, anytime we would visit we would have our yearly check up and then have to do allergy testing on a different day, then go back for review of allergy testing. I switched his allergist to Dr. Katzen and when I called I assumed that we would have multiple visits and was told that it could all be done in one visit. It's much more convenient and they value our time.
