Best dentist office anywhere. Yes, that's a bold statement but it's true. First, office is centrally located and easy to get to. Perfectly appointed office w/Zen-feeling inside. Puts you at easy right away. Next, staff is wonderful! Office manager Jason is warm, caring, knows his craft and keeps the office running like clock work! Hygienist Dina balances her sweet disposition with the most gentle touch. Dr. Bankhead is the best dentist I've ever had. He is a pleasure to see. I require frequent visits and actually look forward to going as I always feel better afterwards. I've never experienced any pain...almost fell asleep a few times on the chair. The service is obviously paramount for this office as is their I.T. relativity. Everything is automated and current. I get automated and personal reminders making it easy to remember appts. And their medical equipment is top notch and rivals any large company. I've been a customer for about 5 years and can only say great things about this business. I have been going to this practice for close to 20 years now. Dr. Bankhead is trustworthy and kind. I have always felt sure he knows what he is doing and has my best interests in mind. Jason, who runs the office, is the most efficient and thorough office manager I've met at any business. He always makes sure I know everything I need to (even tracking down info I might need to know from my insurance) before we have any procedure. He never lets me miss my appointments (and I am a notorious flake when it comes to that). We've been bringing our son since he was old enough to need cleanings, too. I have been going to Dr. Bankhead for almost twenty years now. In all of those years, I have always found the practice to be very professional and the treatment top notch. What I really like is that Dr. Bankhead performs all the required services and you don't get sent off to a specialist for treatment. Jason at the front desk is terrific. He always greets you with a smile and a pleasant disposition. I am amazed at how Jason knows your dental history, insurance status, and any questions you may have right off the top of his head. Dina who is Dr Bankhead's assistant is also extremely pleasant to deal with. She greets you warmly while getting you all set for the work to be performed. I have feared the dentist my ENTIRE life. Not anymore! Dr. Bankhead, Dina and Jason are hands down the absolute best dentistry I have ever been to. I have had some big procedures done the past year and this entire team is so professional, accommodating and friendly. They know the fear I have and work with me to make me comfortable which keeps me going back. Going to the dentist is not pleasant and so many times I used to cancel my appointments but oddly I look forward to seeing this crew :) I have never felt one ounce of pain in any of the procedures I've had done since Dr. Bankhead is so gentle and so kind. At 58 years old, I have been a patient of Accent Dentistry since Dr. Bankhead took over the practice of Dr. Tom Tanzilli, so many years ago, and began to build their Bellingham presence. I value the service of Jason as the Business Manager and the specialized care of Dina and Dr. Bankhead. As a patient with unique needs, I have had the need for candid medical planning and have gotten timely advice as to what was and was not needed. How many dentists take on cleanings themselves? Dr. B does and as a result he is not doing a drive by exam. I saw this dentist for gum discomfort. They took an x-ray,The doctor came in , barely said hello, never made eye contact, and within less than five minutes told me I needed a root canal. He never asked me about my concerns, he didn't hear me, and really didn't seem to care at all.In addition the tooth he wanted to root canal wasn't even near where my gum pain was. I was then presented with an almost $4000 estimate to do the root canal. subsequently I saw two more dentists for second and third opinions. They both addressed the actual reason for me coming in the first place which was painful gums. They both concur that I DO NOT NEED A ROOT CANAL. Hmmmm. I personally find this practice, accent dentistry to be , as I perceive it, unethical . Buyer beware. read more

The reason I stopped going to Dr. Bankhead is not because I do not find him a fine dentist. He is very expensive and there was not much attention to affordability. The main reason I left was due to Jason. He was ingenuous and very rude. There was a high turnaround of hygienist, my belief is that it was due to the atmosphere Jason creates. read more

The hygienists have always been fantastic - sweet, personable, and genuinely nice. The dentist - I wish he was more personable....generally lacking in social skills - taking an extra moment with someone to ask if they have questions or concerns goes a long way. The receptionist - if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all...so i'll keep my opinion to myself. I have switched to a new dentist and couldn't be more happy with that decision. The worst dental experience I've ever had in my life. Many years later and I'm still dealing with complications due to a horrible root canal performed by Dr. Bankhead--No bedside manner, didn't say a word to me before shoving a wooden wedge in my mouth to keep it open, Didn't once explain what he was doing during the procedure and when he was done he left without a word. I had to turn to the assistant to ask if we were done. I honestly felt like a cadaver. To make it even worse the root canal was done improperly and I had to go to another dentist to have it redone as best they could. X-rays showed that he left metal scraps from a tool in my gums that cannot be removed and he used a filling material that was out of date and no longer being used by dentists. Please look elsewhere and save yourself a lot of pain and trouble. read more

Although I would like to leave a heated, scathing review simply because I am extremely angry, I rely on truthful and accurate reviews to help me make decisions when I am choosing healthcare professionals. My review will be two-fold because quite honestly, I am reviewing the entire practice, not simply the doctor. Doctor Bankhead is an adequate dentist. The work he performed on me and my family was done professionally. As a previous reviewer also mentioned, his bedside manner could be improved upon but that does not take away from the actual work that he does. In fairness, I originally had a dental issue when I started there, which he graciously worked on and fixed. The main issue I have with this office is the receptionist. He's arrogant, rude and not warm at all. He is a very disingenuous person and very smug. I really couldn't care less if he likes me or I like him, that is not the point. It's about customer service and trust between a customer and a provider. At this office, it seems that you are not allowed to ask a question about a service or an office policy without feeling like you're being scolded. Yes, you can go ahead and ask your question, but if you do ask a question and it in any way seems like you're questioning either the doctor or him, you are quickly advised with much discontent why they are right and you are wrong. Admittedly, I am not one to just take something at face value. I ask questions, especially when I am paying for a service. Every single time I dared to ask a question, no matter what it was, the response from Jason oozed with annoyance and condescension. Lastly, I will say (and I asked the doctor this, as well) that it seems a bit unusual that a family that is diligent about going to the dentist every 6 months for cleanings and exams, always needed additional work after our office visit. Things do happen, especially when you have teenagers, but it just didn't sit well with me so I dared to question this point. This, my friends, is when all hell broke loose. We've moved on. 1/10/20 update: Response is typical, expected and if I were to guess, was written by the "receptionist" not the doctor. My immature review above speaks volumes. I was excited to find a dentist close to my neighborhood with flexible hours. Unfortunately, due to poor communication from the gentleman working at the front desk, I was not notified of a copay for "New Patient (Full mouth images)" X-Rays prior to my arrival for a exam/cleaning. He notified me that the cleaning "may" happen, but the exam was what I was scheduled for. I suggested having the images sent from a previous dentist (taken less than 3 years prior), which this same gentleman did not view as an option. Personally, I feel this was more about charging me money than it was taking care of my teeth. For this reason alone I will avoid the office moving forward. Cannot comment on the doctor himself, as I did not get that far. Only the poor experience I had with the receptionist. read more

Had a severe infection in my tooth (was cracked and needed to be pulled) and both the dentist and his assistant did everything the could to ensure I was comfortable and pain free! Dr. Bankhead is absolutely rude and condescending. You will schedule an appointment and he will just cancel it and reschedule it. Furthermore, he sometimes skips his appointments altogether without letting his patients know. He is very impersonal and seems to dislike his job. I have never seen someone that rude altogether. Absolutely do not see this dentist. He is always on his phone and barely paying attention to his patients half the time and never askshow they are feeling. Totally lacking in empathy! Will not go see him again. You are better off pulling your own tooth with a pliers. I'll preface by saying I take great care of my teeth and go at least twice year for cleanings. read more

I went to this dentists office the first day with high expectations. Sat in the office for about 25 minutes before anyone could actually see me. Day one meet everyone and get some information on what I needed done. Met with the Dr. and he said about 10 words to me. At that point I was a little confused realizing there was little interaction. A simple exam was done and then at the end I was presented with almost a 5k budget to the work. I realized that my dental assistance wasn't going to cover all of it which was fine. But the very rude young man behind the counter handed me a loan form and the budget. He didn't explain things to me well at all. I went back to attempt to have some work done. After asking me for a ridiculous down payment for work to be done I explained I didn't understand why. The rude man and I started exchanging words and he was probably the most unprofessional person I have ever met. He was so concerned with - you used up our last appointment in other words now the Dr. can't make any more money .... etc. He told me that he explained everything to me and this was a complete lie. I will never recommend this place ever - I went to another Dentist for an appointment and he said I only had 2 cavities vs. the 12 that the I was told. He gave me options on what I could do next - then accent dentistry just gave me pricing on doing as much work as possible, trying to get every dollar and not worrying about the client. First I want to say that according to my husband, Dr. Bankhead is a wonderful dentist and his hygienist was great as well. He had both a cleaning and then a filling and both experiences were great. Having said that, I need to warn people who go there to know your own insurance. I booked this appt for my husband and was told by the receptionist that they participate in Metlife's dental Insurance. What the receptionist failed to tell me is that they are not in-network. Our insurance covered the cleaning in full which was good, however when he went back for his filling he was charged the difference between the dentist's fee and what Metlife's customary charge is. He told me that he had provided an estimate for my husband prior to the appt which my husband thought was what our insurance covered as an in-network provider. The receptionist told me that our insurance doesn't cover white fillings, only silver fillings and that's why there was a difference in the charge. I told him that I had just spoken to my insurance company and that they said they do cover white composite fillings. He replied that they only cover white fillings in the front but that for back teeth, they only cover silver fillings. I asked the receptionist to fax me the estimate of benefits that our insurance had supplied them and it clearly stated on there that the estimate was for a composite (white) filling. He got very rude and angry with me when I pointed that out. He called me ignorant for not knowing my own benefits. SO BEWARE - BEFORE YOU GO TO THIS PRACTICE, DON'T BE "IGNORANT" LIKE ME. CALL YOUR INSURANCE AND VERIFY! WHEN THEY SAY THEY PARTICIPATE, IT DOESN'T MEAN THEY ARE IN-NETWORK!!!!!!!! ______________________________________________________________ I need to address the owner's response to this review. I never requested a refund of money and I never "threatened to leave a negative review unless you "did something to make it right". If that is what your receptionist told you then once again, he is not being truthful. I had made an appt and was calling to cancel it because my husband told me that you are not in-network. That is the only reason I called. The issue was that when I called to cancel, he said that you charge in-network rates and I told him that that was not the case because we were covered 80% on fillings and that the amount my husband was charged most definitely did not represent 20%. He kept telling me that he was looking right at the estimate from my insurance and that it didn't cover white fillings and that that was the reason it cost more than the 20%. When I asked him to fax it to me, I pointed out that it stated right on there that the estimate was for a white filling. Only then did he admit that you do charge the difference between your charge and the insurance company's allowed amount. I never asked for a refund and we don't want one. The only issue was that we could not continue using you because you were not in-network and he was trying to tell me that it didn't make a difference financially because you charge in-network prices. He was very rude to me simply because I pointed out the inconsistencies in what he was telling me and he called me ignorant for not knowing my benefits. You did the work and we paid for it. That was NEVER in dispute. The only issue is that it would be best if your receptionist were honest about your policy so that people can make informed choices. read more

Dr. Scott Bankhead is a wonderful dentist. I have been seeing him for almost 20 years. He is skilled, smart, and keeps abreast of all the latest techniques. He treated my son (who had a pretty severe under bite and some other formative mouth issues) and after a few years of orthodontia, my son has an attractive and healthy smile. My appointments are always calming with my comfort in mind, first and foremost. The staff is especially customer oriented, from the hygienist to the assistant to the office manager (who is extremely savvy when it comes to insurance matters that I couldn't begin to understand). Even though I have had some horrible experiences with dental offices in the past, this is one practice I can highly recommend for safety, efficiency, level of care, cleanliness, and pain free dentistry. read more

When we moved to MA 4 years ago, I had to randomly choose a dentist. After reading the reviews and checking out the website, I made an appointment at Accent Dentistry. I used to be very scared to go to the dentist (being from a different country where they treat cavities without anesthesia, it was important to find a good dentist) but now when I go I almost fall asleep on the chair. Great environment with lovely music, fragrance diffuser, attention to details such as foam head rest and "sky" light fixtures in the ceiling, extremely clean, top notch office manager Jason who makes insurance matters a walk in the park, very nice hygienist, fantastic dentist assistant who always has a kind word and extremely professional, knowledgeable and perfectionist dentist. They are efficient, fast, professional and will explain thoroughly everything. I couldn't trust another practice to take care of my teeth. read more
