layla bagels is a sweet little shop in santa monica with a bunch of delicious bagels with fresh ingredients. my friends and i went on a friday around 9AM. there's only street parking but it wasn't hard to find at all. my friends and i ordered a wide variety of their menu - the spicy BEC, the scarlett, the mia, and the calvin. everything was super fresh and delicious and the staff was so, so friendly and kind. my order, the BEC, actually didn't come out and they realized the order was never put in for some reason. despite this, they responded so kindly and made sure my order came out asap after and even gave me a card for a free item! overall, layla bagels is so delicious and i can't wait to come back. read more

Laila's is a cool little bagel and coffee shop in Santa Monica. The staff was friendly, despite being incredibly busy, and worked hard to keep orders moving efficiently. They offer a few seasonal specialty drinks, including the Carrot Cake Latte, which was absolutely delicious--it really tasted like drinking a slice of carrot cake. The bagels are freshly baked with a great variety to choose from, and you can actually smell the bread baking in the back when you walk in. The blueberry bagel with blueberry compote was outstanding and one of our favorites. We ordered a large spread of bagels, heirloom tomatoes, vegetables, and accompaniments for a pre-wedding "getting ready" brunch with the bride and bridal party. Everything was beautifully packaged and ready for pickup on time, complete with utensils, napkins, and everything we needed to serve and enjoy the meal. One of my favorite bagel spots hands down! I love the bagels, toppings, and drinks. Honestly only ever had one bagel here I didn't enjoy mostly because the fruit wasn't that good (blackberries). My all-time favorite matcha drink was also from here, back when they had the raspberry white chocolate matcha, which I got hot and it was sweetened perfect but rich and smooth. I generally try to avoid going to places on weekends because of lines but the line here went quick, only took maybe 7-8 minutes with 6-7 parties in front of us. Unfortunately half the workers here have some god awful attitudes, all-stars at the fake friendly-sneer attitude you expect from the westside. 5/6/2026 First time at Layla's. THE SCARLETT Got it on a half sesame bagel. It comes toasted. Overall flavor was clean and you can taste the tomatoes and olive oil on top. It was good. I enjoyed it. The chili flakes did not make it spicy. Strangely, I did not notice the spice as I was eating it. SESAME BAGEL, EVERYTHING BAGEL Got loose bagels to take home. Both were decent as I toasted it in the toaster oven, but they were a bit dry and thinly sliced bagels. I tried it untoasted as well and it's just not good untoasted! Toasted all the way for these bagels. But still given everything, it was good, but not amazing. CHOCOLATE MISO BANANA BREAD This tasted like regular banana bread. Nothing special about it. There were a good amount of chocolate in it, which I appreciated. However, it was just the standard banana bread. No special miso flavor or crumble topping that would make this special. It was a bit too moist for a banana bread, thinking it was steamed from being directly out of the oven and then covered without cooling down in open air. I did toast this in a pan with butter and it did taste better! YUZU ARNOLD PALMER This was on their tablet menu, as I wanted something refreshing. It delivered. It had a good, citrusy yuzu flavor with iced tea. INDOOR + OUTDOOR SEATS Bar seating. Outdoor tables and seats available. But limited seating. CLEAN UNISEX BATHROOM Bathroom was clean and there was only one bathroom from what I remember. However, it was a large bathroom and located in the back. CUSTOMER SERVICE Staff at the front were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. I would come here just for the service! PARKING All street parking and metered parking. Came here on a Wednesday after 11:00am. There is street cleaning and cannot park between 9:00am - 11:00am on Wednesday. But thereafter it is free. But there's restrictions on other days. More than the food, I liked the vibe of the area. I would return to try their other crafted bagels and bagel sandwiches, but loose bagels were just okay. Had a celebrity sighting here, but most people might not know her, as she is the spouse of a famous actor from the MCU films. Good bagels, crowded spot, skip the lattes. We got the scarlet on the everything bagel and the egg Sammy on jalapeno cheddar. Plus the carrot cake and banana cream lattes. Both bagels were really good, but I was especially impressed by the Sammy. The eggs were super fluffy and I didn't miss the cream cheese. Plus the jalapeno cheddar bagel was nice and flavorful. There was a line out the door but it moved at a decent pace and we were able to get two bar seats just in time. The crowd seemed pretty young overall and there was a good amount of outdoor seating. That said, I'd go prepared to carry out the food since it was just so busy. My only real gripe was how tiny the lattes were for 7 bucks. Yeah it's LA but that didn't feel worth it to me, especially since the banana cream one tastes a little sour. Next time I'll try a cappuccino or just skip. Stopped by on a Monday for brunch with some friends and we had such a great time! They have both open-face and closed faced sandwiches as well as the option to buy both whole and half bagels (you can mix and match half bagels). I got the Laika, which is the yummiest combination of smoked salmon, tomato, cucumber, and herb cream cheese. The pickled onions on top were a standout too. I tried the carrot cake cream cheese matcha - the matcha itself was okay and was more milky than matcha, but I really enjoyed the carrot cake cream cheese foam on top. You order at the counter and they'll call out your name when your order is ready. There's cute merch for sale, along with both indoor and patio seating. There wasn't really a line when we arrived but it started to get busy shortly afterwards. I got the blueberry special and my friend got the Scarlett bagel. As someone who loves blueberries, the Blueberry Special was everything I wanted and expected. The blueberry flavor was rich with just the right amount of sweetness. The Scarlett bagel seemed simple at first but there's many layers of subtle flavor that comes through when you take a bite. We came on a Friday morning and the line was out the door, but it only took 15 minutes. We thought the drinks were good, but they were lacking in banana flavor. The drinks are on the smaller side and they were about $8. The bagel itself wasn't our favorite, the interior was spongy and the exterior was difficult to chew. A little disappointed with this one, I can't tell if it's because we came on an off day. Then again, it was busy so it's not like the bagels aren't fresh. Prep'd all night for a colonoscopy and all I could dream about was Layla's bagels! As soon as I was discharged, ID bracelet and all, my son Hayden & I drove straight to Layla's. As expected, a significant line had formed, even on a week day! Fortunately they have it handled and we were in bagel delight before we knew it. He had the B.E.C. I really like the Laika bagel here, but it's just so expensive! $18 for a whole bagel here and $9 for a half is a pretty rough price to pay. The quality is great though -- everything is super fresh and well balanced and delicious. The price is just the main issue for me. Also, this location has limited seating and street parking only. You are really getting something next level here, fancier ingredients and interesting combinations. They don't have a parking lot, so I was able to park on a nearby residential street and got to enjoy a walk in the nice weather. It did seem like there were plenty of parking spots nearby, but also a ton of people in the area. Thankfully, the line to order wasn't going out the door when I actually got there, but it had been earlier. So definitely be prepared! The wait for my food didn't seem too bad, as busy as they were. I started working on the west side in January of 2025. Before this, I would hate coming to the west side but I also knew that there are some amazing places to have a meal on this side of town. Since I have to be on the west side 3 days a week now for work, I might as well make the most out of it. I used to get a bagel with tomato and lemon pepper regularly, but this version, with the lemon zest and red pepper felt like a luxury version of a classic for me. This is a complete game changer because I love the sweet and sour crunch of the pickled red onions!! Also they add the tomato and cucumber for added veggies and freshness, and an obscene amount of dill. I do love how generous they are with all their toppings! I've also tried the egg Sammy with added bacon and this was a disappointment. It looks really stunning in photos and it seems quite popular but it just seemed kinda bland and dry to me... I also don't recommend the matcha latte, it tasted more like milk and was missing the matcha flavor. I arrived at 7:47 am and had my Yellow Peach Matcha ($7.50) by 7:51 am and bagels 3 mins later.
