Being presented with a bill 50% over the estimate is just not professional. Finally, and unequivocally the last time, I took my car in for a larger project. My car is an 'exotic' with a very special paint color and material. Hams failed twice to complete the work satisfactorily. Eventually, I had to demand that the insurance payment made to Hams be refunded, and I had to take the car to a shop in Portland to get the Hams work removed (out-of-pocket cost to me) and then the restoration done properly.

While he admitted he'd never replaced an MGB windshield before, he felt that with his experience with other classic cars, he could do it...and he did! He did an outstanding job! He also did some excellent body work to repair some damage to her nose and painted a newly replaced trunk lid. While any body work isn't cheap, I feel he respected my budget and I am very satisfied with the quality of the work.

After he was finished with the bodywork and paint job, he sent me a bill for another $27,000. I don't think anybody would believe bodywork and paint job would cost over $70,000. He has refused to return my car until I pay the final amount. I would tell my friends and anybody else to avoid him at all costs. Update - Fred Wilson has refused to release my car for 300 days unless I paid the $27,000. He has dropped that demand, but now says I owe him $45 a day to have stored the car, and will not release the car until I pay the additional $13,500. He also says the car may be considered abandoned, and threatens to put a lien on my vehicle.
