My husband does most of his car & truck work himself. So when his beloved Crown Vic Interceptor needed transmission help that he couldn't do. These guys do the transmission service the right way. They don't put any unnatural pressure on the transmission, it's called a "hot service," so ALL the talk back and forth about sucking or blowing fluid through the gears and torque converter can be stopped. These guys drop the pan, hook q machine to the transmission and let the transmission cycle the fluid through the entire transmission naturally. My worries towards the way that I've heard some places do this service were shut down by the manger/owner. He's very knowledgeable and a great guy to deal with. Thanks to everyone at Dustys. We decided to try Dusty's took our Ford Expatiation to get a new transmission Well they fixed it and called we paid. Went to the car and Radio doesn't work 2 more engine light come on. And we told them and it was our fault because when we brought it in there was 3 engine lights we always we have had 2 because of the converters. Brought 2 more times because week check up for leaks? They were done in five minutes didn't even look or put it on the lift. 2nd time we went told them it wasn't staying in 1st gear and it was wanting to go to 2nd. Same thing didn't look said everything was ok. We called and brought it in and we had and appointment on 6/4/24 Our appointment was 8a.m. they didn't start until 11:30! We had a shifting cable installed didn't get a call until 3:30 and the unreplaceable driver reclinable handle was broken off and shoved between the front and back someone tried to fix it and it was sitting there broken.the shift stick that was not put back right. read more

My automatic trans was sticking in low gear so, since I live close to Dusty's, I dropped in for a diagnosis and estimate. Rather than repair the problem Dusty tried to sell me some transmission snake oil. When I politely declined, he became belligerent and told me to leave his establishment. Like many business owners, he has no boss to answer to and can thus evolve to a high level of obnoxiousness. His son, conversely, is personable and professional. Hopefully he has taken over the business by now. For me, I have happily complied with Dusty's request that I never visit his shop again. PS: I eventually took the vehicle to another transmission shop which cleaned the valve body and performed a long-overdue oil and filter change. It shifts like new! read more

Top end service and they care about your safety and budget too. The guys all knew I was from out of town and could have gotten by with just getting me out the door with basic flush/filters and fluid. Instead, when performance worsened the next day, they had me come back, repeated, and gave me some assurance that my truck would get me home. And let my dogs hang out in their air conditioned waiting room throughout. The diagnosis was correct: I needed to get the transmission rebuilt. While traveling and pulling a 34' trailer, I had some transmission problems. I called Dusty's for advice. They notified me that I was still under their warranty. They directed me to a local transmission shop in Redmond OR. They handled all of the details with the local shop. They had me back on the road in two days, after the part came in from Portland. All of this at NO ADDITIONAL COST to me. They repeatedly reassured me that they would take care of me and get me back on the road. The transmission on our motorhome went out while on vacation at Crater Lake from California. We had it towed to Dusty's and are so thankful for the incredible work they did to get us back on the road. They were very communicative and thorough at checking everything before handing the keys back over to us. They rebuilt the transmission and gear vendor to make them stronger than before. They also replaced our brakes master cylinder. Their knowledge was very evident and the customer service was beyond excellent! They truly care about their customers and will do the job right!! My husband has lots of mechanical experience and has replaced multiple transmissions in cars at home. He was beyond pleased when hearing their process and the details regarding the parts they use. Not all parts are created equal! After our experience with Dusty's, my parents, who live in John Day, are willing to drive 6 hours to have work done by them. I totally agree that Dusty's is the place to go for transmission work. I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 4X4 with the weak 48RE automatic transmission. It only had 95,000 miles and the tranny totally bit the dust. I'm a pretty technical guy and I know good mechanics and bad ones when I see them. I can tell when things get done right! Matt is the boss there and I've also interfaced with Vince and George all three of whom are really knowledgeable and very capable. They are totally open about what is going on with your vehicle. None of the BS "our insurance doesn't cover customers in here." Matt and his guys will show you what is going on. In my opinion, if shops won't let you in their shop to see what's going on then they are hiding something. Plus Matt actually texted me pics of the new parts they installed while my tranny was still open. They totally rebuilt it with all the latest, greatest and strongest parts available including a $1500 billet torque converter that will take all the torque you can throw at it from a 5.9 Cummins diesel. It shifts great, never slips and I feel like I can go anywhere without a tranny problem... thanks to Matt, Vince, George and all the guys who made my transmission trustworthy again!!! read more

I bought a truck from lithia that turned out to have a busted transmission within the fourth day of owning it. lithia wasn't willing to work with me on the repairs. I took the truck to dusty's they did a free job estimate. they were very friendly. dusty himself took me back into the shop to show me the problems with the transmission by physically pointing them out to me in the actual transmission. dusty estimated me a $3000 dollar repair and finished the repair above $3250. dusty stood by the original estimate and charged me only 3000 dollars and ate the rest. the company shows true integrity and I personally recommend the company to anyone and everyone with a transmission problem. read more

Traveling through southern Oregon to northern California on vacation my transmission started slipping. I pulled into Dusty's late in the day after looking online for a reputable transmission shop.They obligingly checked it out and declared my transmission ruined. They had a rebuilt one in stock and could have it in by the end of the next day for $3800. I said that seemed high but they assured me that it was competitive for a quality job. Being almost closing time and anxious to not ruin my families vacation I regretfully agreed. They did help us out by shuttling us to a reasonable hotel. When picked up the vehicle the next afternoon they said the charge was $4100. I inquired at two very reputable shops in Portland--one of them being affiliated with the same "ATRA" rebuilders association and both shops quoted me $2300! I wish I had shopped around!!! read more

It wasn't, but they coordinated everything with getting it sent to another nearby mechanic to take care of electrical issues. Dusty's is the best place to get transmission service in Medford.

So I paid almost $4,000 to get my tranny rebuilt and when I got my truck back I noticed a few things. My exhaust was cut and not removed, it's only 4 bolts, which I thought was kinda lazy and sloppy. Now I have an exhaust leak. They installed a new cooler and the way it is mounted looks like a amateur did it. It sits crooked and it drives me crazy when I look at it. Then they didn't clean up any of the mess they made. I don't know if that is a requirement but I think it's not something a professional would do. Most of all they kept the truck for two extra days and then charged me for it! Now the tranny runs great. I just think they could do things in a better fashion. Especially when they charge so much and take there sweet time. read more

This shop specializes in transmissions of all types. When it is not your transmission causing the problem they let you know and have great recommendations for other local knowledgeable shops in the area. As long as I can remember the transmission hanging out front of the shop with the guys legs sticking out of it has always been a fixture in Central Point. As a kid I though it was cool. Now as an adult I laugh at their slogan "We're into transmissions" because now I get it. LOL! The shop is very organized and clean but when I get my vehicles serviced I prefer to go across the street to the Rogue Creamery and Ledger David to pass the time. The Dusty's crew has been very informative and puts the time into educating me on the problems so that I can make the best decision for my vehicles situation. When I was working and unable to come take a look at some problem areas Matt was nice enough to send me pictures over the phone so that I could get a second opinion and I really appreciated that. read more
