I have had AZ State Credit Union since I was 16 years old. My parents had them before me, and every girlfriend I've ever had (and some friends) I have switched over to them. The only car loan I ever had was through them (at like a 4% interest or something like that btw), and today I still have my personal and business accounts with them. I have tried the Big Three over the years, because of employers or otherwise, but I've always kept my AZSTCU account and today it is the only place where I keep my money. Sure, sometimes its a bit of a hassle with their not being open on weekends, but in my experience, that just makes you a better planner financially. They have always been fair and their customer service is unequalled. Keep in mind that they are a NON PROFIT institution with their main goal being on bettering the community. NOT Business Friendly! Cannot get wire transfers online or by phone. Cannot speak to upper management regarding the subject. Originally I was very impressed with this Credit Union; in fact, I moved a number of business and personal accounts here as well as applying for a new home construction loan. Now I am not so impressed any more. First, the petty peeve: I do accounting for a number of business entities. I do not want to use my paper and my ink to print half a page of OneAz ads, which use up lots of toner, on a statement copy that will be going to a CPA! This makes both me and OneAz look very unprofessional. I have mentioned this before: Please keep your ads confined to the Login page as all my other financial institutions do. Second, just this week when I tried to look at my personal accounts statement, up popped a window that said "You have no accounts." What?! Fortunately this error was fixed by the end of the day after a panic attack and then spending some time on the phone with Customer Service, but still! How does this happen?! Finally, we were not at all pleased with the handling of our construction loan approval. It was needlessly extremely stressful, and I'm convinced it was due to lack of experience and lack of appropriate supervision. read more

We were attempting to buy a $300,000 home, which was mostly a cash offer except for $60,000. Fell through on the day of closing as they would NOT accept the certified engineer's report that the home was indeed NOT a manufactured home but WAS a modular single family residence. Refused to lend money. It apparently wasn't worth their time. read more

Use to be a 5 star! Now they are going to start charging a checking account fee. Really? Come on! They said that they have too many accounts that aren't being used enough! Bullshit! Close the ones that have been abandoned. You already have that as a rule. So follow through. For the customers that do use their checking accounts; many have to watch every single dime right now! We can't just make ten debit card transactions for the heck of it just to avoid this ridiculous fee. Also, with so many people being out of work right now they do not have direct deposit anymore! People are struggling terribly right now and they can't afford to pay Arizona State Credit Union a disgusting fee. I think Arizona State Credit Union is forgetting that one of the main reasons people opened up accounts with them in the first place was because of their no checking account fees and they were people friendly! I can't believe anyone would rate this place highly. I have had many problems with them, including numerous security breaches where they stop my debit card unbeknownst to me and I'm stuck in line at the grocery store, trying to pay for my groceries! This is the most customer unfriendly financial institution in the world. The car dealership financed my car through OneAZ. When it came time to make my first payment. I went to their website to make the payment. They don't offer a way to make a payment on their website. What kind of financial institution does take online payments? A really retarded one. So, then I spent my lunch time going to the Prescott Valley office to make the payment in person us my regular back issued Visa Debit Card. Guess what they don't accept Visa cards. Do you know ANY other business that doesn't accept Visa Cards. So then I went to my banks website to have my bank process a payment using their bill pay process. No the first payment was 5 days late and I got charged a late fee. I went into the local branch to ask for the late fee to be removed. Manger was not in and it couldn't be done. So I got the HQ address and wrote a letter to the President hoping he would exercise good customer service skills. I got NO answer. It seems he doesn't speak to customers. A very arrogant man. I'm too lowly to get communication from him. This place really sucks. read more

I've been a member of this credit union for almost 22 years. I've never had very many problems here other than a few hiccups now and then which happens with most businesses. My issue, however, is with the upper management that works at the pinnacle peak location. I've met many people working upstairs at that branch and I have witnessed firsthand how they treat their employees and it sickens me. These people have no morals and shit on amazing people for absolutely no reason. It upsets me that I'm going to have to bank somewhere else but there is no way I would be able to do business or even associate myself with such terrible people. read more

VERY poor service. Have banked there for many years (20+). Recently they traded out the debit card with a card that has the chip reader. The reader does not work. They refuse to help. Applied for refi home loan, at first everything was going as planned, problems started right after the appraisal. Underwriting wanted a structrial engineer for a covered porch, engineer wouldn't sign off on it without even doing little to no inspections. ONEAZ said and even condoned removing the roof of said porch, even though it would decrease the value of my home. The engineers report was flawed and even ONEAZ even admitted it was but they were not going change their minds - remove the roof and we can do the loan - they even said they would send out another engineer, but I would have to pay for it. I told them to cancel the loan and send back my $450.00 for the application fee, and they said they would but would take about a week. A month later I'm still waiting for the $450 and now they tell me that I may not get it back. This credit union is the worst. Nobody knows what they doing, they tell you one thing do something else. Left is not left - and right is wrong. Do yourself a huge favor, stay AWAY from doing business with these folks. read more

There are 2 ATMs within 25 miles of my house; when I was waitressing (read making cash only and ending my shifts at 4:00a) I was unable to deposit cash after my shift as the ATMs were down (for days at a time). I'm moving to Tempe in less than 48 hours and my card was declined purchasing moving boxes. I called the line to inquire what the problem was, Cindy said "there's a block, I don't know, call this [different] number tomorrow". Just called the new number and it routes to THE EXACT SAME DEPARTMENT so Cindy was worthless and lazy. Linda told me "Well, it's not a block, we deactivated your card for fraud" because I made a large money order for my new apartment complex. What?? Then "Well we also decided to close it because we mailed you a new chip one in August." After I told her I had received no such card, she said "Yes, our records show it was returned to us." ?????? Ultimately said she couldn't help me and I'd need to visit a branch. Did I mention Linda LAUGHED at me during our absurd phone call? Literally signing up with Wells Fargo TODAY. read more

Saturday 3/26/16 the Credit Union called me when I was at work. I returned their call it was the Fraud Dept. Someone in France had a clone debit card and my pin number and cleaned out my checking and Savings account. Now the funny thing about this, the fraudsters had been using this cloned debit card since 3/21/16. They were getting 500.00 twice a day from and ATM. When I use my debit card I can only get 500.00 a day. Also, my saving account was not linked to my checking account and the credit union allowed the fraudster to clean it out too. I have to pay a 50.00 deductible. Which pisses me off. I've been with Arizona State Credit Union for 31 years. Once I get my money back I will be moving on. I never received any kind of alert from them until the call on Saturday 3/26/16. Today 3/31/16, I get a letter from the credit union that states it's going to take them 45 days to finish their investigation before I will see my money. The letter makes it sound like I'm the criminal. read more

After even more time, I'm finding they just keep surprising me with terrible service. My wife and I have several accounts to divvy up funds so that we can keep track more easily. When I opened up my own little account to separate out my consulting income and business expenses, they never told me that there is a fee for not using the account or carrying a large balance. So, out of the blue there's a fee after a few months. Their answer is "It's our policy." And, this answer is the trap. "Policy" is someone's idea of how to create a rigid, inflexible structure. But, it prevents any kind of adaptability or consideration for the individual context. All of our banking goes through 2 or 3 of the accounts, but it doesn't mean anything if there is a "policy." Such approaches are the pipe dreams of corporate dinosaurs. And, this credit union suffers from the same issues as any antiquated corporation. They really don't care about customers, their circumstances, or the whole idea of providing a service. It's just so much trouble to change banks, but we may have to do so. If we're going to pay stupid fees, we might as well go with a regular bank that is at least more convenient to use. No weekend hours, no off-hour phone help, poor security, pitiful mortgage services, and too many rude employees just gets way too tiresome. There really is very little benefit. read more

This credit Union was highly recommended by several people. The local branch office is staffed with friendly people trying to be helpful but if there is a problem they can not solve it for me. The telephone center is not helpful. 50% of the time I am wasting my time calling them because they either can't or won't help. One time the credit union paid the wrong party via automatic payment and they tried to convince me that I made the mistake. I was not even aware of that company and previous payments were made to the correct party and I did not change a thing.This caused problems for me and If I had made the mistake I am convinced they would have charged me. I also do not think it is right that they charged me an overdraft fee of $32.00 and an additional $5.00 overdraft when they transferred money from my (admittedly minimal) savings. Yes, I made the mistake of thinking that a pending deposit was going to be in my account but $37.00 dollars is worse than what banks charge. I am seriously thinking of going back to using a bank except that it is such a hassle to make that change. read more

I have been with a large bank for 10 years and was looking forward to changing to a credit union. I wanted better service with a more personal touch. I opened my account here and have been completely blown away by their lack of customer service and careless attitudes. The call center is incompetent and unable to help with any issues. Therefore you must go into a branch to get any help and if it's on the weekend there's no help of any kind. They hold my direct deposit for up to 3 days and say if you want it released you need to call, who has time for that especially since the branch never answers their phone?! They offer a "courtesy pay" which is a nice way to say nsf fee. If you go over your account balance by one cent they will charge you $32 per incident instead of just declining it, don't sign up for this unless you understand it because they don't explain it. It took me three long phone calls and nobody would do anything until I went into the branch and they we're only willing to give me back half of the fees they took. Needless to say I'm probably going back to the big bank. Next time I will read the reviews first! read more

We had a horrible experience with them. 3 times of going out of town to have our debit cards shut off even though I called beforehand to tell them and to inform them of what states we were going thru. The last time I took most of my money out and put in another bank acct to travel. My husband didn't hear me tell him and guess what they didn't shut it off this time and let it use 500.00 that wasn't in there. They automatically put a service on your acct to let you have money that is not there "as a help to you" although they charge you fees like crazy. I had over 1000.00 to pay back. As I was out of state for a few months, they have no shared banking anywhere. They told me I can pay online but when you try the connection for paying from another institution it won't work. When you call them they say sorry, you can pay over the phone for a fee of 10.00. They were suppose to have a service that text my phone if the acct gets low, but that didn't happen either. Everyone was so unhelpful and unwilling to help with any of this. I will NEVER use this credit union again! I have switched to a different credit union years ago (pioneerfederal) and loved them. So I thought credit unions were much better than banks. No this one! I have had much better customer service from banks. Don't use this credit union if there is even a possibility something might happen with your acct. they will not work with you. I became a member in 2008 and could not have been more thrilled. However since late I have never been so aggravated to be a member. I am not sure how they have received the #1 title for credit unions in Arizona. It all started in 2012 when we went for a mortgage and were promised it would be easy. We were told that we could and would get a 30yr fix loan...a few days before we were supposed to close it unraveled and we were almost homeless. The credit union made it feel as though it was our fault and that they were doing us a favor by bending over backwards to get us a 5yr ARM. In all actuality it was their mistake and it was not a favor it was like pulling teeth. This should have been a gigantic red flag! The house needed to be refinanced and again it was pulling teeth. They made me jump through hoops and did not recognize the quick claim deed from the state and had fill their own deed out. How their paper work trumps the state I will never know. The credit union does not have adult worker friendly hours and got rid of Saturday hours. I went to close an account today and reduce another account while leaving part of it untouched. The first part went remarkably well (I was half expecting them to say no we can't close it unless you are both here). The second part not so much...the savings part was done correctly, however they closed my checking which I explicitly asked them not to do. If I had wanted that I would have closed out both accounts. On top of all of this they give inconsistent answers. If I could give zero stars or negative stars I would. The credit union does not deserve any stars! Do not bank here and if you do not like big banks do your research and choose another credit union. So dissatisfied, disgruntled and overall annoyed.
