Not having a money counting machine was kind of odd, but not enough to deter me. Here is why I left Malaga bank for a larger, corporate bank (the tl;dr is that customer service is only available M-F 9-5 and their fraud detection services are out of control): They have a $1,000 daily spend limit on debit purchases. If you wish to make a larger purchase you have to call and authorize it. Only problem is they are only accessible by phone M-F 9-5pst. Their "fraud detection" system is ridiculous. I had charges denied and my card locked on a weekly basis for routine purchases, ex: Amazon, and there was nothing I could do about it- this is what pushed me over the edge in terms of leaving the bank. There app is not very good, doesn't have a face-ID option and for those of you familiar they aren't listed with Plaid, which means linking your account to other services and apps is difficult and sometimes impossible.

First, he explained the process in detail to me. Then, he provided the required paperwork and gave me his business card for follow up questions. Later he also reached out to another Unify branch to find a sample completed form which I could use as a guide on this rather complex legal document. Joaquin treated me as his #1 customer priority. Always professional, polite, and exceedingly helpful. I made a similar request to USBank Torrance who quickly shuffled me to a 1-800 phone number, no contact extension to reach directly. Several days later, unfortunately, no response from USBank. Highly recommend doing your business with Unify Financial Credit Union.

I understand that members can opt out by February, but why, in this day and age with all the online scams that exist, are we putting a price on members financial security? That seems unfair, especially knowing that we are more than likely going to see some weird things happen with finances and prices in 2025. $10 a month is nearly as much as what most Banks charge at a basic level. The fact that current members are being forced into ProtectPlus instead being allowed to opt into it on their own accord is very weird.This is such an inappropriate time to implement something like this, especially knowing that this institution has been opened for nearly 85 years and some people have probably been clients for that long. I'm also concerned as to why this choice has not been advertised CLEARLY and UPFRONT sooner to current members. I only recently found out within the last week from a piece of mail of all things, that the ProtectPlus will be pushed onto members, and we have the option to opt out of it by February 1st. Why are we just being notified now and not like 6 months ago? There's no way this new plan was just put into fruition within the last few weeks, and there's no way that in this day in age Kinecta couldn't have sent out an automated text to all members explaining exactly what this was going to be about. Email, apps, and texts exist- so why am I receiving a letter about this? Not to mention, why is this even happening at the expense of the customer? Post update to the response: I appreciate the fast response. I'm well aware I can opt out of the checking account, I blatantly and clearly already said that in my post. This post is more about the nature and implementation of this new checking account and how it's being forced onto clients instead of giving them the option to opt into it. It is sneaky, and I'm sure a lot of clients will be taken off guard by it and not realize it's been implemented and they will be unwillingly paying fees to Kinecta that they weren't aware of. It also goes against the "no fee" services Credit Unions tend to provide compared to banks. I hope those points will be taken into consideration as Kinecta moves forward with this new Checking Account.

This small local bank operates in a way that places it's bankers' convenience ahead of the customer's convenience! As I said in my previous review: a small bank with a worse than big bank attitude!!!!!! Today, I went to the bank to get myself added as an authorized signatory on our club soccer team account. I walked into the office of Jessica Beck (when I asked to speak with her Manager, she said she is the Manager! Her card says Assistant Vice President) and provided the letter from our Club Treasurer and my driver's license for verification. She asked me if I had the phone number and email for another new authorized signatory (who was not with me), which I provided. Jessica then verified my info in the computer and confirmed they have me in the system but then asked me to come another day to sign the papers once they are ready. I said I will wait but she told me they can't do the paperwork now. She said it is their process that they need to call the other new signatory before they prepare the papers for signing, and do the paperwork one time. I asked if we have to be together when signing, and Jessica said no. Why, then, I asked, can she not do my paperwork now, and get my signature, so I can avoid another trip. She then said something about being short on staff and busy. There was literally one other customer in the bank who was being helped by another banker. She also refused to call the other new signatory while I was in the bank. Frustrating experience and time suck!! I ONLY come to Malaga (reluctantly) because it is the bank for a couple of voluntary school/sports organizations.

Unfortunately, my visit to this branch today left me extremely disappointed. I visited the branch to make a cash deposit that included a $50 bill given to me by my grandmother. The bill is over 100 years old and has been in her possession for many years. During my transaction, I was told that the bill was counterfeit because the branch's machine would not accept it. What concerned me most was not that the machine rejected the bill, but the way the situation was handled. The manager, Jocelyn, repeatedly suggested that the bill was counterfeit based on its color and texture, which made me feel as though I was being accused of attempting to deposit counterfeit currency. I understand that employees must exercise caution, but I expected a more professional and respectful approach, especially as a long time member. Because I was not convinced the bill was counterfeit, I went directly across the street to PCB Bank in Torrance for a second opinion. Three employees there independently examined the bill and confirmed that it is authentic. They explained that the bill is simply very old, which is likely why the machine was unable to read or accept it. This experience was both embarrassing and frustrating. Had the bill simply been declined because the equipment could not process older currency, I would have understood. Instead, I left feeling as though my integrity had been questioned without sufficient basis. I am posting this review because I believe there is an opportunity to better train staff on handling older currency and to ensure members are treated with respect when questions arise about a bill's authenticity.
