The company that did my home inspection referred American Defense Systems to me and being that I was shopping around for an alarm company, the timing couldn't have been any better. I contacted Brent at their Texas location and he went over the different package plans to choose from and gave me a package that I was comfortable with for a reasonable price. I was familiar with their equipment because a lot of alarm companies are going with the same "Z Wave" wireless technology that I read about in my research while I was shopping around. Even though the technician came late and didn't have all of the equipment with him, ADS was made aware of the issue and contacted me immediately to help remedy the situation. They scheduled another visit only with a different technician. That day came and Jim installed the remaining equipment and was very knowledgeable answering some questions that I had. So far, so good. The customer support, Chrystale, was very friendly when she followed up with a call to ensure that everything was working correctly and asked if I had any questions/concerns. The app works great (you have to log in every time when you want to make a change), and i'm looking forward to adding more equipment onto my system in the near future. From what I know, I will recommend ADS to friends in the future. read more

Be very careful with ADS! I hope you have a very different experience from mine. I was very hopeful but after 8 months, I have no words to describe my disappointment. My exterior cameras have not worked since October and with the calls, no response. They credited me one month of monitoring service for their error, however, I want to be able to view my cameras. Is that too much to ask? It started with my doorbell camera and moved to my exterior cameras starting in September. Their excuses are beyond human logic. I think I have been more than patient and this review was the last thing I wanted to do. Unfortunately, my next step is to escalate to their corporate office and the BBB. Legally justified scam with impeccable customer service voices. The email says $500 voucher for security, solar, and water purification systems EACH. Wow, that's great. They say they can set up all the utilities at my new spot for me. Almost too good to be true. So when I get on the phone with Brent, it turns out the voucher for security means they have a deal with ADT to cover a $99 installation fee; all I have to pay is $55 monthly for the service. So where was the $500? Oh and the utilities? Later, when a different ONIT Concierge employee called, I could set up with one of the two internet providers. I was told I'd get an email with a compilation of all the utilities and services I would need to sign up with; I never got that email. I specifically asked about the voucher for solar energy systems; I was told I'd get an email with the info... you can guess what happened. The whole time I was on the phone with this company, which was at least 3 calls, the customer service sounded top notch. Friendly voices reassuring me that they had me taken care of... The $500 vouchers are the hook, the customer service is the line, don't get sunk. read more

The service provided by this company could not have been any worse. All of their equipment is cheaply made and I wouldn't trust it with securing anything. The man that came over to install the system was extremely rude to my wife, incompetent in setting us the system, and smelled so much of cigarettes that my dog was looking for the intruder after he had been gone for an hour. Their smoke detector fell off the wall after a few days. On a bright sunny day with no thunderstorms in the area, the alarm went off for a tornado warning multiple times, waking our 3 week old baby. Beware if you go through them. They do offer you a full *sarcasm intedend* three days to decide if you want to get out of the contract. Good luck making that decision if you have any other responsibilities in your life. Would strongly discourage you from choosing this company. read more

All their products are top quality and they have already made me feel very secure in a home I have yet to move into - just one more month! The reason for 1 star is because there is no zero or minus rating. I first contacted ADT because of all of the accolades that came up on the internet. But before they would even come to my home and provide a cost estimate they wanted my DOB and the last 4 of my SSN. They said it was because they needed to run a credit check on me. I hung up and went back to the Internet and decided to call Protect America who was rated as #2. The PA representative said that they only do DIY and if I needed a technician they would refer me to Brinks. They transferred my call to (what they identified as) Brinks. The alleged Brinks rep arranged to have his tech come to my house. The tech arrived in an unmarked vehicle and had no ID but he stated that he was from Brinks. He was at my house for 2-3 hours, most of it spent on the cell phone getting instructions on how to take over my previous system. He was unable to complete the job and left with the understanding that he would do the additional work the following week. He did not give an invoice nor did he ask me to sign anything. I saw no paperwork at all! 2 to 3 hours later I received a call from a company in Texas called Onit. The rep stated that they had sent the tech and that he did not work for Brinks but that he worked for Onit. I had no idea who Onit was! After considerable discussion it was revealed that Brinks subcontracted the work to Onit. The rep stated that she needed some information from me in order to run a credit check and write up a contract (3 year). She then asked for my DOB, the last 4 of my SSN and the "routing number" for my checking account and the number of my credit or debit card. I refused to provide the banking information and told her that 1) she did not need this information to write up a contract; 2) I have not yet seen an invoice; 3) they do not need to run a credit check for an ongoing service that will be paid in advance which can be stopped at any time that the bill is not paid; 4) I was not informed that they would make such demands before allowing their tech into my home. I told them that their tech can come and take back the single piece of equipment (a cell phone) that he added to my existing system. I told them that under no circumstances am I will to give them open access to my banking. The next day they did not call back to arrange for their tech to come. I contacted a local company (upon the advice of a building contractor) who came to my home for a free inspection and estimate. He said that the cell phone which their tech had installed should not have taken more than 30 minutes. I plan on having the local company remove the cell phone that Onit attached and hand it to their tech should he return. As it turns out ADT, Brinks and Protect America are all owned by Tyco International, a Swiss owned company. The Brinks name is used only for the reputation of the name itself. Onit is one of the companies that they have sold their name to. read more

Great service. I could not have placed cameras myself without help, so I was happy that worker asked me what where cameras and panel should be placed. Follow up calls were timely and plentiful. I was also offered water treatment assessment for free, I ended up buying that filter and am very happy with my drinking water. read more

Install was quick and easy. The installer wore a mask whenever he was in the house. He didn't have the outside camera in his truck, but came back the next day and installed it, but had to come again to calibrate the camera and set up trigger zones (forgot to do that on installation). Pleased with the quick response on those two issues. read more

I've read several of the reviews and I wish I had done so prior to signing the contract. I received a letter in June from Curtis Kindred at MONI that they would no longer be my security provider to to unresolved account activity. They stopped taking the automatic monthly payment from my account in June 2017 and didn't notify me until late September 2017. In June 2016, I immediately called MONI regarding this and was told I need to call ADS, which I did. I sent a copy of the received letter and was told by Shay at ADS that my account looked fine and would I send her the letter and she would look into it. I never heard another word until now. They are now saying I need to catch up with the payments. I have had to call them several times regarding issues and I am very disappointed in the response. I would be better off getting a dog than having this system in my home! read more

This company is NOT available 24/7. And Brinks is not really available 24/7 either. This company's customer service is horrible. I've had all of my smoke alarms going off for the last hour and can't get anyone to help me. Brinks says there is no alarm going off. And to get that answer I had to go through multiple wormholes to get to a human. Terrible service and not what I was paying for. Don't bother with this company. read more

I can attest to what many others have said about this company. They come door to door selling their services and equipment under Brinks while operating as Onit. The salesman were nice but everything that succeeded this was less than stellar. It is nearly impossible to reach their customer service and "Lou" the salesman who had helped me ended up ignoring my calls and text messages after a month long exchange that had never resolved. He had promised that Onit will send a rebate buying out the contract for the previous security company that my family had been using. I would have never switched over to Onit had I known that this was never going to be followed up with. On top of the equipment cost I had to pay 19.99 for the monitoring service with Onit and 39.99 for my previous service for the next year that I can no longer use since they had uninstalled the previous hardware. I had paid for my equipment within 6 months of the 2 year contract to avoid any interest fees but had nearly immediately canceled my monitoring service afterwards as I don't want to support a company with such scummy business practices and poor customer service. I've only come to find out today that they have lost ALL records of my cancellation the previous year and have sent me an invoice for the "last 12 months of service" that I had received. My SECOND cancellation was easy and Maribel was able to help me the same day but I am still extremely upset with having to deal with this company again after I thought they were out of family's problems. Do yourself a favor and get a Ring alarm and avoid this company like the plague. read more

We had an incident with a person lurking behind the house and looking in windows so we thougth it would be a good idea to call ADS to install a system. It was a great idea. Joe Thacker was my sales representative. He is professional and knowledgeable. He didn't push anything that we didn't need. The product they use is high quality. so far so good....my sales rep is Tony Ellis he was polite and helpful to all of my questions about the installation and equipments at the new home, we got the touch screen panel w/ 2 way voice verification, smoke/fire alarm, window shatter alarm, they tapped into the old system to get all the windows and door alarm, and we also got the touch screen keypad front door lock and the smart thermometer which all links to the alarm.com app on my phone.....I paid $350 up front to keep the monthly about $45 bucks not sure if it's after or before taxes....since I just got this put in 2 weeks ago. the installation went smooth the guy was young but he was on time, friendly and quick. I like the fact that they're local and uses local monitoring offices (monotronic?) and the company was started by veterans. Hopefully everything goes smooth with billings / service calls etc. in the future. I'll most likely add some cameras in the future, Tony stated that b/c I'm working with TEXinspect for inspection that I'm getting %65 off on the equipment + free installation for life + free activation. if you're not working with that inspection company cost could be different. read more

I would give these guys a zero if it were possible. We originally signed up with Point Security for our system. The company was purchased by ADS and during the transition our phone apps quit working and I assume we were no longer monitored. When I called they could not even find our record. A couple of months later someone finally called and got us going again, for double the monthly rate. Today I called to cancel our monitoring(got a much better monitoring rate from a competitor). ADS had to put me on hold to call Brinks who they said was actually monitoring us. They said, no Brinks is not doing our monitoring, a company called UCC is(never heard of them). When I called UCC (a foreign call center) they told me American Defense Systems (ADS) had to cancel me... If I don't hear back in a day or two I will begin disputing the credit card charges. They are horrible...stay away if you value your time! read more

American Defense Systems have been great to work with! We recently purchased a pre-wired home and they came out and setup the existing system, and added glass break in master bathroom and smoke alarm notification for if a fire starts when we are away(have to protect our puppy). Our installer was very good about telling me what additional products they offered without being pushy. The system is simple to use and has an app for mobile use. The price is right too and everyone we spoke with or met in person were very friendly and helpful, especially Stephanie. read more

I recently purchased my first home and my contact information was sent to ADS by my home inspector. I was called a few times about signing up for the alarm service and I told the broker that I was overwhelmed and hadn't even closed or moved in the home yet. I asked that she give me time to move in and consider the service. I finally spoke with her and was sold on getting the service. I told her that I was implementing my own home automation system and definitely wanted to have full control of everything without conflict. After some consideration the day after the install I decided it was in my best interest to monitor the existing alarm system myself. I reviewed the contract and it states that you can cancel without penalty within 3 business days. I called to cancel and a technician was out a few days later to remove their equipment. I did not receive a receipt or email confirmation of this cancellation. I've checked my credit card and the first month's payment has not yet been refunded. The contract states any payments will be refunded within 10 business days. I called customer service just to get assurance the cancellation was processed and the payment would be refunded. I was told everyone in accounting was gone for the day and someone would return my call the next business day. No one called. I called again a few days later and was told yet again, no one had made it in the accounting department yet. I was then told by the customer service rep that the refund would be processed and a check would be mailed within 3-4 weeks. 1) I paid with a credit card. Refunds should be processed back to the original card. 2) The signed and agreed upon contract states payments would be returned within 10 business days. 3) Why have I STILL been unable to reach this "accounting department" So glad that I decided to cancel my service with this company. I can only imagine the type of service I would have to endure for an obligated 3 years. read more

I was highly recommended to go with this company. I was never told the billing procedures and when I questioned them, they were rude in their responses. I should have "cut and run" then. Unfortunately, I didn't. My panel has reported being "tampered with" several times a day for the past 3 months. You would think a reputable company would call to check on it. Nope! Not ADS. When MONI called to ask a survey to upgrade, I told them I was not happy at all. They put in a service request and assured me someone from ADS would call in 1-2 days. No one called. I called after 3 days. I was put on hold and hung up after 10 minutes. I reached out via their website to be told a manager would call me immediately. Nope. I called again and was asked when I was available for a tech. I said I was here all day. After being put on hold several times, I was finally asked if 3 days from now would be OK. The wait continues. This is my first time getting a security system (first time homebuyer) and everyone I've had contact with at ADS (Moni) has been very helpful. I look forward to a continued peaceful relationship with the company. After the initial contact was made I ended up rescinding my offer on one house and started fresh with a new one. I'm a mother of 3, we just moved to Texas from far away and my husband is constantly at work at a new job so we are just settling in. Over the course of 3 weeks, a sales rep from this home security system came by 5 times. The first time I said we cannot afford a security system even though we want one- we just moved and bought a house. We broke the bank. Sales rep said NO PROBLEM! We offer first 6 months free to new home buyers- part of the deal is you keep our signs in your front yard for advertising. I said I would have to ask my husband so Id call him (the rep) to schedule an appointment for him to come back by.... so he came back one day without my calling... husband wasn't home.... and again and again even though I said I would call him to schedule the appointment when I knew when my husband would be available. FINALLY he caught us both home and obviously, 6 months free no upfront costs sounds good so we signed on the dotted line. We didn't even have to give him a credit card or anything. THANK GOD I HAVE VOICE MESSAGES FROM THIS CROOK talking about the promotion he was giving us as evidence. We never got any paperwork. Someone just showed up 2 days later and installed a panel on the wall and put sticky things on each door.... Now here we are- 3 months later and conveniently this guy doesn't work there any more. ADS Is trying to bill us, and they say there is no evidence of a deal on our account. I let them hear the messages from the sales rep clearly talking about the 'deal' and the 'special promotion', the chicks in the office for ADS Said (imagine this in the most obnoxious whiny voice possible "Well... he doesn't SAaaaaY 6 months free..." So I said THEN WHAT DEAL AND PROMOTION IS HE TALKING ABOUT?! And now they wont return my calls. They've threatened to damage our credit by sending this to collections if we dont pay it so we have contacted the BBB. Every one of them are crooks and lied to us at one point or another. One girl in the office said they couldn't get a hold of the rep since they let him go- she asked for the cell number he gave us to try it. The next girl i talked to- Shelly i think is her name- says No no no, he left under good terms. Then slipped up later in the conversation to say they let him go... so which was it? Was the guy fired for fraudulently luring consumers to sign up with the service or something? Completely dishonest company, I wouldn't trust them with my home security. My experience has been one of over-promise, under-deliver and still working things out. I would not recommend the company. I've never been made "whole" from the holes they left from a rushed installation. My equipment is still not calibrated correctly and it was installed in July. I reported it 2 times. Adding a personal insight: I thought this was someone's second or third side venture-- or a main one they weren't putting time into--I happened to ask how many times Curtis Kindred (LLC owner) was in the office last week and it was reportedly two. I don't mean to connote that one needs to be on-site frequently to have a good outcome, but things aren't adding up here. It is hard to reach the right department by phone, and voice mail is not working or full. Even Monitronics (parent monitoring company) had my experience after I advised them of such. It's been a waste of my time and while the interface seems great, I regret not upgrading the standard equipment and going with ADT. Service recovery from American Defense has been nill. read more

American Defense Systems is worse than the BURGLARS. They installed an alarm system in the home that I had purchased 8/31/16. The installation was done Sept 1st but was not finished that day because the installer didn't have all of the equipment that I had requested. The installer had to see one of my checks but nothing was paid or signed.The installer did not have all of the equipment with him to do the complete installation, but he sold me on additional equipment that I now know was unessary. On Sept 2 I received a contract from ADS asking for my signature. Instead of signing I sent an email reply stating that My relationship with ADS was terminated. ADS then stole $843 from my checking account without any authorization from me. I reported the fraud to the bank and they (the bank) put the money back into my account. ADS had an appointment today between 1:00 and 3:00pm for an installer named Roger to remove their equipment from my home. It is now 4:17 and I haven't heard from Roger or anyone else at ADS. I left a message for Stephanie, but she hasn't returned my call. I called Monitronics and spoke with Theresa who rescheduled Roger to pkup the equipment Thursday Sept 29. If he fails to show again I'll throw their equipment in the garbage. read more

I purchased a new home and wanted the best security system that I could get. My home inspection company referred me to American Defense Systems. The representative with whom I spoke, Malorie, made everything so very easy. She stayed in communication with me, scheduled the installation for the same date as my settlement and followed up after the installation was completed. The technician was on time, professional and extremely knowledgeable. The system itself is very easy to use. I love how I can arm and disarm it using the application on my mobile phone. Customer service has been outstanding. Crystal followed up a few days ago (which was about one month after the installation) to make certain that I was satisfied with the service - I certainly am. I feel extremely secure with the system and the company. read more

They were very quick with setting up a time to install everything, the tech was very fast and the equipment seems to be doing its job. They did not push to sell us things we did not need. Do not walk, run from American Defense Systems. I thought I had signed a regular 2 year contract but the representative said it is 3 years and they are raising my rates. What is the use of a contract if they can raise rates whenever they feel like it. The alarm is totally worthless. It can not be heard outside of the home so again what is the use if only can be heard inside. Someone can break into your home, slit your throat and none of the neighbors would be the wiser until police arrived if ever. Plus they use strong arm tactics to extend the contract if I want a lower rate. Never EVER will recommend ADS. I am still waiting for a copy of my contract to verify 3 yrs. Recommending to all my family and friends to stay away from ADS! read more
