Only Burger burgers live up to the hype - they really are excellent. They're not good for you, but if you're craving a burger and are close to the truck or brick & mortar location - Only Burger should be one of the few places you consider to satisfy that craving. They aren't cheap (when compared to fast food/order-at-the-counter places, but they are worth it. The one thing that I wish were better are the fries. They are usually limp and often over-salted/peppered. On my list still to try: Lamb Sliders and Onion Rings. read more

I'm out sure if it was Opposite Day at Only Burger but I had a very different opinion on this place than most reviewers. We took our family here to try the burgers and of course for me to get my hands on a veggie burger since I don't eat Red meat. The veggie burger was so gross. I mean, grosser than Morningstar patties gross. They were obviously premade and I'm sure ive had this patty at other places, it was very disappointing and did not live up to the expectations I had based on other vegetarian reviews. I ended upthrowing a good half of it away. My daughter got a double hamburger with bacon and said it was very bland and the patty was flavorless. She's not a picky eater so have to trust her assessment, One of my other kids ordered a grilled cheese. It arrived on a hamburger bun with processed cheese. I felt so bad I offered to order something else. My husband had the frito burger which he said was ok. Nothing to write home about but he definitely liked his better (relatively) than the rest of us. We figured we'd order the home made ice cream sandwiches to try to salvage this experience which ended up just throwing good money at bad as they were very marginal. They were a bit to cooked on the bottom and tasted very factory made. They didn't finish theirs either. The place itself was pretty cramped and uninviting with glaring lights, blaring music and just an uncomfortable place to eat. They don't have trays so you just eat your burger on some tin foil. This started out as a food truck and should probably just stay that way. Though I would be pissed if I stood in line at a food truck rodeo and got this crap. read more

i went in to only burger to get what usually get and i see the manger or the boss being very rude to cashier. it looked like she was already having a bad day he was just being a d*ck to her. i respect and appreciate cashier because i used to be one when i was in high school so i understand the pressure. but doesn't mean you should mistreated them or anything. i go in there i always ask cashier if she having a good day and that day she told she wasn't and it got me frustrated. usually asked them for there name and this time i forgot to ask because i was gonna make this review. there food is good but if i keep seeing the manager or the boss acting like this to the cashier they gonna lose a customer. he even treated her to fire her. if the owner looks at this do something's bout it thank you. read more

On this NC eating tour, we seemed to be landing at burger joints for lunches. We had read about Only Burger and tracked it down in what appeared to be a more upscale strip mall, than one would expect. Only Burger is not one of those old roadside places, but they do serve a good burger and will make it to order, the way you want it. Ms T had a Fried Green Tomato burger and really liked it. Her only comment was that the fried green tomato kind of got lost and did not add much to the taste. I had a double cheeseburger with good chili and slaw. The slaw was really too coarse for the sandwich. I have grown to like the fine grind southern slaws that you usually get. Don't get me wrong, this was a good cheese burger and I would go back again but I have rounded the score up a little. The patties needed a little salt and they were just a little overdone, hence on the dry side. I don't want a burger rare, but this was well done. I suspect they are using leaner beef than I would use, trying to reduce the number of heart attacks that happen on the premises. I did not try to order it cooked to a certain doneness level and am not sure how much that is regulated by the State of North Carolina. read more

Pretty good, got the lamb burger. Took about 10mins. from order time to chow down time on a busy lunch hour. I enjoyed the burger but didn't care for the greasy shoestring fries that were overflowing from a paper cup. Bought two sliders, fries and a bottled lemonade for 9bucks and some change. Love it! This is my go-to burger joint when I'm craving a down-to-earth good, fresh burger. The burgers are very fresh and well seasoned. Their fries are delicious. The prices are great as well. The only downside is that the restaurant itself is pretty plain and simple, so I'd recommend this more as a place to pick up and grab a burger to go eat at home rather than somewhere to eat and hang out with a group of friends. read more

What happened to Only Burger... I remember a few years ago going out to look for the OB truck (this was before the days of twitter and actual restaurants). It was so fresh and so delicious. Im not sure exactly what's changed since my first visits, but OB is not the same, and in a pretty bad way... The fries are different and not as tasty as had been previously, and the burgers are really nothing more than alright. OB had so much potential, and for a while, they were living high above it... but thats sadly not the case anymore. read more

So, I've rated Only Burger 3 stars because they essentially serve two things: burgers and a side (french fries or onion rings). To me, their burger is super tasty (and large!) but their french fries are always cold. I think it has something to do with the fact that they are very thin shoestring type fries that don't have lots of potato in them. They just taste like fried potato skin to me. They're also lacking in flavor (and temperature, most of the time). I love fries (they're my one food obsession) and these have just never hit the spot. I haven't had their onion rings, so I can't comment on those. If Only Burger changes it's fries, it would be a 4, teetering on 5 star for me. read more

I've been to the Only Burger truck twice and have been underwhelmed both times. They're not bad, but they're nothing really special either. They're better than fast food, but about as good as 5 Guys (which I've also been unimpressed by). There are a lot of places to get burgers, so if you want to make it your specialty, you need to be able to do it really, really well and Only Burger is just kinda average. The whole "Montana-raised, antibiotic-free, locally-ground" thing seems to be mostly a gimmick to get you to pay $4.75 for a burger with no sides. When you cook it medium-well and pile it with toppings, you can't really tell the difference between that and any other ground chuck. The buns they use are way too small and get soggy easily. The cheap store-brand wheat buns I buy from Kroger taste better and hold up better than theirs. The fries are pretty good though. Compared to other food trucks in the area that serve more unique food and do it really well, I don't think Only Burger stacks up. read more

I had the fried green tomato burger with pimento cheese and it was excellent. I also tried the onion rings which were a bit heavy for my taste but the chipotle ranch dressing that they came with was very good. The choices were a bit overwhelming for how you could top your burger especially if you're really hungry and not sure what you want, but I like the variety. They also carry a lot of local natural sodas. Seating is limited so don't go there with a big crowd unless you want take out. read more

I love burgers. When I heard about this truck, I immediately searched it out. I've been twice, once up at the Guess intersection, and last weekend when they showed up at Wine Authorities. What makes a great burger? First and foremost, I think a good burger is minimally handled, so that the burger itself falls almost falls apart as you eat it. It must be cooked medium, on a toasted bun which still has that light crunch as you bite into it. Well, that is Only Burger's burger. Their burgers are great, very simple, but right on. Fries were a little lame though, mainly because they were cold. The first time we went, we took the food home (a 5 min drive), and the fries were cold clods of fat by the time we ate them (I guess that's why one should always observe that American tradition of immediately busting into the fries as soon as you get them). Second time, we ate on the spot, and the fries were hot and better, but still not great. Not sure if they're not frying them twice or what, but that needs to be worked on. The people working the truck are nice too, and good business folk. I ordered a double, got a single, and when I told them (I was actually okay with just a single), the owner chased me down and insisted on giving me another burger. That's good marketing: whenever you make a mistake with a customer, that's a chance to turn that person into one of your biggest advocates. Now, to call this the best burger in Durham I think is to miss the point. We've got a lot of great burgers in Durham, (Wimpy's, The Federal, ...), but they are all unique, and so I would just say that the burgers that Sam and Tom or providing are outstanding I'm hoping this business is a big success! read more

In full-disclosure, I don't eat beef so I only get the turkey burger--but I must say it is the best I've ever had!!! Unlike the thick, rubbery, white-ish turkey patties that make me want to go back to beef, these are tender and delicious. A "real burger" feel. The toppings are always fresh and the buns are buttery and taste like they are straight from a neighborhood cookout--delish. The burgers are a little on the small side, but I never leave hungry. I tried them last year and the fries were soggy but the burger was decent. Nothing special - about like a burger you'd get at the Rex cafeteria. I just tried them again and they totally botched my order, both at the register and in the bag. Oh well... I can forgive some screw-ups. Let's see how things taste... Fries are good. Took the family for dinner. I ordered the Carolina burger, wife ordered a cheeseburger, and we order a hamburger slider for our 2 year old. My wife and kid both agreed that the burgers were great. Besides the burgers, we all enjoyed the fries at Only Burger. The fries were crispy and well seasoned. As for carolina burger, it came with a fork which is a sign that the meal will be messy. They did not hold back on the slaw and chili. It was so big that it was difficult to take a whole bite out of the burger. This is one of the best carolina burgers I've had and will definitely come back for more. The only negative is the limited seating at the restaurant. I love this place. They have a ton of topping options, and the buns are toasted and buttered. It's a lot like five guys, but in my opinion, BETTER. There isn't a lot of seating inside, so keep that in mind. However, there is plenty outside that you can use when the weather is nice. They also have fried pickles. For a burger coming from a truck, Only Burger wows me everytime. One whiff of their buttery toasted buns and amazing seasoned french fries and I literally start drooling on cue like a Pavlovian pup. My standard order is the single, no onions, with pepperjack cheese. Mmm already drooling. Now, these aren't artisanal/ gourmet burgers (I'll leave satisfying my fancy burger obsession to Chucks), but I still fall in love every time. They remind me of a better version of Five Guys. Another thing that always impresses me is despite the line, these guys keep customers moving. Burgers are made quickly and after you order it usually isn't more than a five minute wait. But my favorite thing about Only Burger is their fries. I don't know what the heck they sprinkle on those shoe-strings (lemon pepper? citrus steak seasoning?) but it might as well be cocaine. Only Burger is the Subaru of the burger world: well-appointed, but bland. The burger was all bells and whistles: bacon, onion jam, probably other stuff I'm forgetting, but when I bit into that slab all I tasted was greasy air. The tasteless bun (from Neomonde no less! A place I like!) didn't help matters. I ended up mostly eating the "sampler" of sides (fried pickles, onion rings, and tomatoes) which was pretty good, but that does not a meal make. Maybe I just got my hopes up from all the five star reviews. Maybe I'll try it again if I'm in the neighborhood, but it's not a place I'm gonna go search for. I ordered food for my wife and I just yesterday, I got a turkey burger with the works and bacon she got a burger with the works and added a fried green tomato. After I ate my food (I always finish before she does) I tried a small bite of her burger (without her knowing) and I think i am going to get a fried green tomato next time. This was our first time trying Only Burger. We were running errands in the area and it cam recommended by a friend. It was excellent! My husband loved the Bacon and Blue burger. I got the Philly burger and it was so tasty! It was messy due to being loaded with peppers, cheese, and tasty sauce. We split an order of sweet potato fries which were very nicely cooked. Our boys each had sliders. Our oldest loved the slider so much we ended up ordering him a second one. We would definitely eat here again if we were in the area. read more

Cole slaw on a burger Carolina In the mood for a burger and Only was highly regarded so checked it out. The building was small, seating was limited, and the line was almost out the building (out the building later). I went for the carolina burger and bacon wrapped mac and cheese. The bacon wrapped mac was fun, but not at all mindblowing. The carolina burger was a huge piece of beef with cole slaw underneath that made the bun soggy. It was a nice burger but sloppy. Though I prefer the truck to the restaurant which ever you decide will not fail you. My favorite is catching them for breakfast at the farmers market. This is how you do a breakfast burger: 1 fried egg, 1 fried green tomato, 1 hamburger patty and 1 glop of pimento cheese sandwiched between a butter toasted bun, yum! I could eat these all day long. There are many great places to get a burger in Durham and they all have their appeal depending on what you might be in the mood for at that moment, however Only Burger consistently ranks at the top of my list. One star deducted only because it can be a bit pricey, especially if you're feeding the whole family. This is a nice local burger joint that makes your burgers fresh with lots of toppings. I opted for lots of protein so I added an egg, lettuce, grilled onions and bleu cheese (yum) but I still wasn't wowed by the sandwich. The price was on point for the meat and toppings being fresh and local, but I guess my hunt for a great local burger place is still on. Food here is really only Ok at best. What gets me is how expensive it is for what you actually get. You can save money and get a better meal at Red Robbin.
