The ingredients were clearly high quality, and that's what made the meal somewhat frustrating. The execution simply didn't bring those ingredients to life. The Shrimp & Grits came with only five shrimp. They were perfectly cooked, but the portion felt small for the price. The grits were prepared correctly but lacked much flavor or personality. The Blackberry Salmon had similar issues. The salmon itself was cooked well but wasn't seasoned to let its flavor shine. The rice was bland, and while the blackberries were an interesting idea, they didn't really complement the salmon for us. Again the portion was adequate but not generous. Service was pleasant. We were seated immediately despite arriving at noon on a weekday, and our order was taken promptly. As on previous visits, though, there was a noticeable wait before the food arrived. Parking has always been somewhat limited, although the restaurant now offers complimentary valet parking, which is a nice improvement. One final surprise came when reviewing the receipt afterward: the 3.5% Kitchen Appreciation Fee. We hadn't noticed it during the meal, we were not told about it and then tipped in addition to it. Whether or not restaurants choose to add this type of fee is their decision, but we'd appreciate it being communicated more clearly before the bill arrives so that we are not tipping the 3.5% fee itself. Ultimately, we wanted to like Glasshouse Kitchen more than we did. The setting is beautiful, the ingredients are good, and the staff is pleasant. But after several visits, we continue to come away feeling that the food needs more thoughtful seasoning, the portions don't quite justify the price, and the overall value doesn't match the cost.
