I have been going to Dr Duber since about 1995 or 1996, I as no spring chicken then. I was warned…read morebefore I saw him that he is thorough and expects you to do as he says. I have always tried to listen to him and follow his advice. He was brief and focused and wastes no time, fine with me. When I first went to him he was young and VERY serious for such a young man. I was told by my Primary Care Dr, by my daughter, who had worked in a hospital with him and she said he insisted on excellent care for his patients and all the Nurses KNEW his patients received CARE on time and nothing missed, it was echoed by the RN who lived next door. I would later find his reputation was well earned. He really worked patiently with me (you might say he had the patience of Job because I am not as focused as he is) until I stopped having the dizzy spells, after many medication adjustments and trying different things, I am down to visits of about once a year unless I need to see him for some reason. He has seen me though two different serious operations and now I am knocking on 91, my legs are weak, I fight Arthritis, but, all in all, surprisingly good shape, thanks to him, and my other good Drs. He is still focused, still thorough and careful, he turns out to be one of my favorite Drs, and I have some really good Drs. I sent a friend to him when her Dr kept telling her "not a thing wrong with your Heart" when she could hardly catch her breath going up stairs, with pains in her chest, she finally went to Dr Duber and he found the problem with her heart right away, and now she is as big a fan of Dr Duber as I am. She has thanked me many times for keeping on until she went to him. She feels she would have died & I feel that he saved my life too and has kept me going. I don't care if he does not make small talk, or does have a little more time and makes small talk, he is one of the best Drs I have been too. If you need a lot of flattery & small talk go to a friend, if you want focused, professional, honest care, where he looks you in the eye and can answer any question directly, Dr Duber is your man.

I've been a patient of this office for many years going back to 2017, with Dr Ahn, for my by pass…read morethen Dr Chan. for maintenance and follow up heart health. Going through all the name changes from Inland Cardiology, to Elite to now United Heart. For the most part, it's been just ok. Nothing stands out as spectacular or amazing from this office. I started visiting this office because the folks at San Antonio had good words for them, and i was happy with my experience at SAH. But lately, it seems the care part of the office has become more and more lackluster and a let down. Example: I've had a check up follow up appointment set up for about a year now. 3 days prior, the office called to confirm the appointment and prepare. So far so good.. Then on the day of the appointment, I show up to a sorry "no appointment ". Mind you, This is a 3 part appointment, requiring a stress test, an echo test, then the follow up go over results appointment all on different days. All canceled for no reason whatsoever, no real good reason provided too. just a bunch of sorry's i dont know why. Yet, this is not the first time this has happened. The same thing happened on that appointment a year ago, showed up, appointment was cancelled. Some one tried reaching you. The only difference was that last years appointment, the excuse was " the tech didn't show up", so no one available to conduct the test so at least a reason was provided. Im writing this because 1 time,,ok...reasonably understandable, but a 2nd time? To me, this is very unprofessional and to reschedule you for an appt 3 months from today, is simply unacceptable. Sure, the receptionist gal says " i understand-i understand" after hearing me complain that i took several days off work to make sure I make those 3 appt days, and did all the prep work for the exams, but do they really understand ? Or is it all just lip service? Sure felt like it's just another day at the office. I asked for something sooner, no-nothing. Then I was informed I needed an authorization that usually take several days to obtain. What the f! I've had this appointment made for a year! And here we are at the last minute, they tell me i need an authorization? Someone dropped the ball, and im being punished to no fault of mine. Obviously im not happy. But what can you do? Heres another thing, They provide you with a reminder card that lists all the dates set up in the computer for all your upcoming appointments. In my mind, what good is that when they don't work to hold up those dates anyway. I had my card from last year that said i had an appointment, but all those dates are no good. They also provide you a handout sheet in preparation for a test appointment, don't eat or drink for 24 hours prior, and God forbid, don't just "not show up" because you will be charged $200 for cardiolite medication that is ordered in advance. Hmmm, I wonder who paid for that medicine since my test appointment was cancelled. Im guessing insurance was charged. So in turn, I paid for that medication anyway. They charge you if you cancel an appointment, but no accountability on their part when they cancel it for no reason. You ask "what can be improved? ...Improve on that.

Difficult to reach, disorganized front office, and serious concerns about care. We will not be…read morereturning. I'm a caregiver and have been bringing one of my residents to Dr. Ahn at United Heart Institute for the past two years. He's been a long-time patient, but my experience with this office during those two years has been consistently stressful and disappointing. Impossible to Reach & Lost Forms Just like other reviews say, it is extremely hard to get in touch with anyone here. Voicemails rarely get returned, and whenever forms are faxed, the answer is almost always, "We didn't receive it." Most recently, my resident needed cardiology clearance for a dental procedure under general anesthesia. The dental office faxed the form: "We didn't receive it." I personally faxed it myself: still "We didn't receive it." I called multiple times, left voicemails, and heard nothing back. Eventually, one medical assistant told me to email it. I did--and then waited a week with no response, even after emailing twice to ask if she'd received it. No reply. When I called again very upset, I was finally transferred to a different medical assistant who, thankfully, actually helped. She had me stay on the phone while she confirmed receipt of my email, got the form to Dr. Ahn, and arranged for my resident to come in for an EKG within a week. I am genuinely grateful for her--she's the only reason the clearance moved forward. Front Desk Confusion The disorganization isn't just behind the scenes--you can hear it from the waiting room. While sitting there, I heard a receptionist on the phone with a patient who was asking about their appointment time. The receptionist literally said she didn't know why the appointment was made and then told the patient she would just cancel the appointment. That alone made me very uneasy. On top of that, because I couldn't get anyone to reliably call me back about the clearance, I had proactively booked a future appointment with Dr. Ahn (a month out). After we were squeezed in for the EKG visit, I asked the front desk to cancel that future appointment since it was no longer needed. The receptionist told me, "Oh, that appointment was already canceled." No one called me. No one informed me. No explanation. It's very concerning that appointments can be canceled behind the scenes when no one even seems to know what they're for. Long Waits & Poor Communication in the Visit Even when you arrive early or on time, be prepared to wait an hour or more past your scheduled appointment. This has happened repeatedly over the last two years. At the most recent visit (for EKG/clearance): The medical assistant said we were there for a "6-month follow-up". I had to correct her and explain we were there for EKG and surgical clearance. She then had to search the chart to find the form before finally doing the EKG. When Dr. Ahn came in, he greeted us as if we were there for a routine 6-month follow-up--again, I had to correct him and remind him this was specifically for clearance. He then said my resident needed an EKG, and the MA had to tell him, "I already gave you the EKG; it's in your papers." This does not inspire confidence that the chart is being reviewed or that the team is communicating. Clinical Concerns In the two years I've been bringing my resident: No blood work has ever been ordered by Dr. Ahn to monitor how his heart meds are affecting his body. All labs were done by his primary care physician, who eventually had to discontinue one of the blood pressure medications prescribed by Dr. Ahn because it was worsening his kidney function. When I told Dr. Ahn about this and offered lab results, he initially brushed it off as unnecessary. As a nurse, I know how important that information is, so I brought the labs anyway and asked that they be added to the chart. Final Thoughts After two years of: Being unable to reach anyone reliably Fax and email issues Appointments mysteriously canceled without notice Hour-plus wait times even when on time Miscommunication in the exam room And a lack of proactive monitoring of heart medications This last experience was the final straw. While I am thankful for the one medical assistant who genuinely tried to help us, we will not be returning to United Heart Institute or Dr. Ahn.

At my first appointment I knew I not only had found the best cardiologist in this area but also a friend who genuinely cared about me. Never have I felt rushed so he could move on to his other patients. He always takes the time to address any concerns I might have and upon leaving the exam room always has a nice compliment to say. Over the years I have been in and out of several physicians' offices and felt like I was just a number on a chart filled with information concerning my health. Fortunately, there was a cardiologist I went to in Destin, FL who came close to Dr. Khan. His name was Dr. Angel Morrobel and when he found some calcification he thought was in my heart but was in my lungs, he called me at home personally and told me he was sending me to see Dr. Angel Nunez stating nothing but the best for my patient. I had two angels watching over me at that time. When I moved back to CA, I didn't know whether I would find a cardiologist and pulmonary physician like I had in FL. However, my worry about who would be taking care of my heart went away when Dr. Khan became my cardiologist. Since heart disease runs in my family, he did an angiogram and later explained the results in language I could understand and did the same with other tests administered. One time I asked him how he came up with the name Gentle Hearts Clinic. He told me it was because of his patients and their gentle hearts. As one of his patients, I need not worry because he is always gentle with my heart.
