Given that this is the only comic shop in the northeast, you'll find that diamond in the rough or back issue you never thought of seeing in a million years. But it's not all the time that occurs. Occasionally, I venture down to the basement to check out those dollar bins, but it's a dusty, damp, disorganized area usually packed with card game tournament attendees. The atmosphere in the basement during tournament days can leave little to be desired, including foul people, odors, and language. But then again, this IS a comic book store, so those things are to be expected The main floor features a much more organized back issue selection, but sometimes, these can be rather picked over. Pricing is usually decent, with most back issues priced at a buck with recent, newer, or exclusive backstock priced just a tad higher. There is a small new release section, but it's not as extensive as you would hope to see at a comic shop. Some wall books and sets are ridiculously overpriced, while others are genuinely affordable. The Garden really is a mystery grab bag. I pop in every couple of months, hoping to find something new, and sometimes, I'm pleasantly surprised. Most of the staff is nice, too, especially given the challenge of dealing with all that goes into running a comic/card collector shop. Over time, I've gotten to know them and have started to appreciate what they deal with each day. *Bonus Tip: Double-check the condition of anything you plan to purchase, as a lot of books tend to be bent or creased. If you're patient and willing to dig, you might find something worthwhile, just don't snatch up everything so the rest of us can at least discover something in there too

I genuinely hoped that my concerns would bring attention to the customer experience and give management an opportunity to look deeper into how customers are being treated. When I arrived today, I was actually greeted, which I appreciated. I went to the Pokémon section and saw several high-end cards that interested me. I asked for assistance and was only allowed to look at one card at a time. I am not making assumptions about why that decision was made, but as a paying customer, I felt like I was being treated as though I could not be trusted. There were also two Philadelphia police officers present during this interaction. While looking at the cards, I asked the cashier if there was any flexibility in the prices. Anyone who follows the Pokémon market knows that card prices fluctuate, and I simply wanted to know whether there was room for negotiation. The employee did not even look at the cards or ask which cards I was interested in. Because this was one of the same concerns I mentioned in my original review, I asked if a manager could speak with me. The employee called a manager. After some time, the manager arrived and immediately told me that I was banned from the store because of my previous review. I asked why, and that was the explanation I was given. I was not allowed to purchase the cards I was interested in, and I was told to leave. What concerned me most was the way the situation was handled. The manager appeared extremely upset, pointed at me while speaking to me, and was carrying a firearm on his hip. I am not saying that carrying a firearm is itself wrong or illegal. What concerned me was the combination of his anger, the manner in which he approached me, and the fact that this was all happening publicly in front of customers and police officers over a negative review. I felt embarrassed, humiliated, singled out, and publicly made into a spectacle. I believe customers should be able to leave an honest review about their experience without being targeted or confronted in this manner when they return to the business. After I left the store, I spoke with one of the officers and asked if a report could be made regarding what had occurred. I am not going to speculate about what the officer was thinking or feeling, but the interaction was serious enough that I felt it needed to be documented. I also spoke with the owner by phone. What disappointed me was that the conversation seemed to focus more on how damaging a negative review could be to the business than on understanding what had just happened to me as a customer. A negative review should be an opportunity for a business to ask, "What happened, and how can we do better?" It should not become a reason to publicly confront or humiliate a customer. If management was unhappy with my original review, there were many professional ways to handle it. They could have called me, emailed me, or simply asked me what happened and why I felt the way I did. Instead, I was told I was banned when I came back to spend money at the store. I also want to be very clear: I am not claiming to know anyone's intentions, and I am not going to make accusations that I cannot prove. However, I felt that I was treated differently and singled out, and I believe the circumstances deserve to be investigated. I intend to exercise my legal rights to address the situation appropriately and to make sure that any available surveillance or other documentation from today's incident is preserved. Parents and customers deserve to feel comfortable and respected when they walk into a business. There are plenty of Pokémon stores in the Philadelphia area where customers can shop, ask questions, negotiate reasonably, and receive professional customer service. This experience was extremely disappointing, especially because I came back today with the intention of giving Garden Earthy Delight another chance. I hope ownership and management take a serious look at what happened--not just at my review, but at the behavior and customer-service culture that led to today's situation. A business should never be afraid of constructive criticism. The right response to criticism is to listen, investigate, and improve.

The store owner is friendly and welcoming, too. He can either talk to you all day about comics or just be quiet and let you do your thing. So I was really in the mood for some Usagi Yojimbo. I was doing some research on trades I might want. Research for me is putting it in my Amazon cart and then hoping I can find it locally. That was Friday night and the plan was to go out to find it Sunday. I just was like there has to be something closer. I started doing some research. There goes that word again. This time it meant googling and reading reviews. That lead me to this place. I read some cool stuff about the owner. He's an illustrator and makes all his own sticker/shirt designs that you can't get anywhere else. So Sunday rolled around and I went over there. Loved the set up. Nice little oldie but goodie section. Cool collectibles and some great rarities. Guy at the front desk was awesome. I spent a while in there bullshitting. He made some pretty good suggestions. I totaled it up and I could walked out of there spending $300 were I to have gotten everything I wanted in there. Luckily I did not. However I will be back. The collectable Batman '89 figure was there. I'd never seen it in person. Also it's cheaper than it is on the internet. That doesn't normally happen. I'm not into it but there was talk with another customer of board game or D&D nights in the near future. So you should check this place out. It's not huge but it has some cool stuff.

The store has an eclectic mix of books, zines, artwork, comic books, periodicals, store has a whole shelf where the sales go to nonprofits, another shelf of sale items, and really cool artwork on the walls you can buy. The kind of stuff the alternative kids in high school were doodling on the back of their notebooks. It's such an interesting place, and a great place to buy gifts, we found an awesome book about feelings that I think my friend's kid will love! The name Partner and Son seems like the most generic, boring, accountant, law firm, sterile type place, but this place is the complete opposite. A real hidden gem just off South Street.

This comic store is huge and boasts the largest collection of comics I've seen in the area, but unfortunately, that's where the positives end. The place is filthy and disorganized beyond that. After rummaging through the bins, my fingers came away pure black, as if I had been handling a dirty tire or dipping them in a symbiote skin. Some of the clerks were pleasant enough, but their socially awkward demeanor made the experience rather uncomfortable. If the store were cleaner and better organized, I might consider returning, but as it stands, I think I'll pass for now. Yes, scenes for the movie Unbreakable were filmed here, but there was no signage or memorabilia to commemorate that fact. Instead, I found a wheelchair in a corner surrounded by boxes and debris, which gave the impression that the section had just exploded in chaos. On top of that, the pricing is disappointing. Cover price on all books, even back issues that should be discounted to a dollar or two. I was told there is a small dollar bin section, but it was virtually empty. Overall, I wasn't impressed. This store is the best, they are Philly's very own Midtown. The staff know their product pretty well for having so much stock, new books and old books. And if you ask about something, they will go look for it while you are still looking at something else, then pop up with "Is this the book, you wanted?". They have figures, graphic novels, omnibuses, Pokemon cards and everything else in between. If you go in with kids, they will want it all but you'll be saving your cash to buy the books you find for some great prices. I go in there with the intention to buy a few books and leave with a couple series completed because I find the missing issues. Definitely a hot spot to go. read more

Ontario market is on Ontario Street just 3 blocks west of Aramingo in Port Richmond. It is still my favorite comic shop in Philly, although I do like Brave New Worlds on 2nd. The Ontario Market is the comic shop you see in the movie "Unbreakable" with Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson. Mike Fink is the owner, and besides new comics and action figures they carry a great selection of back issues and other cool stuff. I even found "haffies" (halfies), the half of a ball we used to make to play stickball when i was a kid. It is a cool, really funky place, and the owners are really nice. Look for the car with the sign on it out front! read more

i just went in to this store for the first time...i am an avid collecter who has been to every store now here in Philadelphia... i was instantly impressed,huge selections from EVERY ERA...loaded with silverage comics at a very REASONABLE price,unlike the center city stores who" Jacks" up the price anywhere from 20%,just for its location?... the service was primo,its run by a father and son duo,who were both extremely helpful and friendly...giving me 100% attention...i even got a 10% off for a first time buyer... i have now found my one stop comic shop,,,and its Ontario comics....Nuff Said! read more

This is hands down, the best comic shop in Philly. I've been shopping here for over 10 years. Back when I was 10 or so, me and my friends would buy all our Pokémon cards here. Now we get our comics here. OSC has the biggest selection on back orders. I've found some awesome 'out of print' gems here. And for a reasonable price. And their toy selection is great! I've recently been buying Toy Biz's 'X-Men' line form the 90's. Great figures. Brings back memories. I highly recommend this place!!! read more

I went here for Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) as a way to finally get a feel for the place. But I figured FCBD was the perfect opportunity since most shops use it as a way to connect with and introduce new patrons to their business. Upon opening the front door, I was immediately greeted by a very friendly cat. I thought, okay, this is my type of place, being a cat guy myself. But that's where the warm feelings end. Unfortunately, the feline was the only friendly personality here as the owner didn't want to acknowledge or make it feel like I was really wanted. (And after reading some of these other reviews, I can see that I'm not alone in that regard.) As for the selection of books itself, there is certainly a HUGE selection of new releases and back issue bins to go through. Unfortunately, all the back issues are priced at market value or higher. Not exactly a competitive price considering all of the other local comic book stores in the same area have much better pricing. Plus, dollar bins.

It's also located next to The House of Fun toy shop. Interior of the shop is nothing to look at; it's rough and could use a renovation. New pull selection of comics was fair, but had a good selection of graphic novels. Almost no wall books to speak of. Where this shop stands out is, like the other location, is the large longbox selection. This takes up the majority of the shops space. An important item worth noting is the shop does have several comic cats. They are friendly and like pets. Overall, while this location could use a renovation, I think it's easier to access and better then the Philadelphia shop.

He is extremely rude, and he always gives me the SAAAAMMMMMEE story! "We haven't received it yet. I have to call my manager and tell him." IT'S BEEN OVER A YEAR!!!! This is probably by far the worst experience I've encountered at a store. I've tried to reach out multiple times and I have received NO HELP. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS STORE. The shop markets itself around Japanese anime goods, references working with Bandai, and presents itself as a TCG destination. What we were sold were Chinese-language collectible card boxes. Not Japanese releases. Not Japanese Bandai TCG. Not playable trading card game cards. They are novelty collectibles with printed stats that do not belong to any legitimate game system. We've now spent over $200 here believing we were buying authentic Japanese TCG product for our kid. We weren't. When a family asks for Japanese TCG cards, you do not hand them Chinese-market collectible imports and let them believe it's the real thing. Worst of all, our 11-year-old thought he was getting something amazing -- until he realized he couldn't even look the cards up because they aren't part of any real TCG. If you're selling Chinese-language collectibles, say that clearly. Don't lean on Japanese branding and Bandai references while doing it. We're done.

If you're looking for anything that is unrelated to pokemon, I'd certainly give top deck a chance! The service here is hit and miss. Some days they are on the ball and others you're a ghost in front of the counter. This also relates to how busy the shop can be as well. So in summary, awesome place to look around and pick up a board game or two. I just wouldn't advise you to come here for Pokemon.
