I can't believe I only learned about this place two years ago. I feel like a fraud. This place is for the true comic fans. This feeling is compounded by the fact that I could walk there. I spent my childhood picking through 25 cent comic bins at flea markets. This place brings it all back. This place is ripe with back issues and rare finds. I love 80's swamp Thing and horror comics. I've found so many good books here. There are no pretentious wanna be nerds hanging out here. There is no group of guys arguing about the finer details of Ironman issue 457 vs 458. The staff is extremely helpful both on the web and off. Always willing to hold things for you if you ask. So follow them on Facebook to keep up to date on the things they Most importantly scenes from Unbreakable were filmed here! I could get lost here for hours. I never leave without dropping at least $20. Which at another shop in the city would get you one trade. Here I always leave with multiple items. read more

Ontario Street Comics, based on the reviews of others, seemed like the shop for our group. Not perfect (based in what looked like a warehouse), large selection, little messy, potential long box paradise...but it didn't turn out that way. Parking is either on the street or in the lot. Shop is large with significant space spread across several booths and rooms. They potentially have one of the largest collections of longboxes outside of a convention but have extremely poor organization. Customers could spend days searching through these longboxes and not find what they are looking for. Some random cheap boxes are among these with comics that no one wants like Valiant. Many of the books here should be put into dollar bins. Most of the toys and collectables could be removed without any loss. Perhaps the worst part was after walking out; we grabbed water from our car and washed our hands, and then used hand sanitizer. Our hands looked like we spent a day working in the coal mines of Pennsylvania; they were black due to the shops dust. Are there opportunities here? Yes, but finding them even with staff help is challenging. Undoubtedly, we missed good additions to our collections due to the disorganization. I feel my friends comments sum this shop up well. Friend 1: There should be a fire sale, reorganization, another fire sale, and more reorganization. Friend 2: More fire. MORE FIRE. Such a wasted opportunity. There needs to be a complete reorganization and cleanup. I usually prefer to visit a comic shop twice before reviewing it as less than a four, but I see no reason to return here. read more

An okay shop. They have a pretty wide selection. My main issue is the lack of organization. Organize that shit. Alphabetize. So on and so forth. I usually know what I want to look for and don't want to have to dig around to find it. Other than that I like finding old treasures, old baseball cards, and all kinds of goodies here. read more

A awesome comic shop that you could drive by and not notice and then be shocked by how large it is. The exterior doesn't stick out in a quasi industrial section so you have be looking for it. The guy who worked there was friendly and knowledgeable. There is a huge selection of comic books as well as vintage and new toys, cards of every flavor you can imagine, pins, vinyl stuff, and high end statues and the like. What a mess. No process to organize comics. No idea on how much they are. All wrinkled and beat up. This is the reason these stores are going down. Owners just don't care, the sales guy was nasty and when I asked him why there was no process to organize comics, he said that it takes too long. Prices are ridiculous. read more

As everyone on here is saying, this is a place that if you have been in this area(fishtown, Kensington) you have probably drove or walked by. If you're like me you saw the unassuming building, and the car with the sign on top and said no thanks. Well shame on you(and me too). This store is awesome. It is basically a warehouse stuffed to the brim with comics. So it is much bigger inside than it looks from the street. They have a great selection of new and old comics. a HUGE selection of toys and collectables(unlike a lot of other stores in Philly) And the prices on everything are great. The staff is friendly and knowledgable, and way less annoying than clerks at other places. They kind of let you walk around and browse without trying to talk to you about Supermans new sidekick or whatever. Definitely check it out. read more

I didn't even know about this place... i can't believe all the years of comic buying that i missed out on. i was looking for pokemon cards for my son and we don't live too far. i was impressed with how big and stocked it was, not to mention all the other stuff like figurines etc... my son had a great time looking around... i enjoyed seeing all the old stuff. i will go back again for sure! read more

Great wrestler section which includes carded 90s stuff that'll bring back memories as well as loose and affordable wrestling figures in a large glass case. None of that $40-for-1 figure stuff. I was just in here for the first time and I was instantly impressed with the walls filled with action figures and the rows upon rows of comics, old and new. It's so easy to spot a new series in this place because they just have so many! The staff was readily willing to help and answer any questions that I had and was knowledgable about their wares. I discovered this place on the way home from work. Its off of Frankford Ave before you get to Castor (above Fishtown - Kensington area?) Anyhow, the place is probably the biggest comic shop I've found in Philly. Its not as clean or organized as some of the others but there are piles and piles and endless boxes of comics, memorabilia, toys, cards, posters, etc...the place is huge - and random (I bought my new year's stuff there!) I've gone to this store since before it sold comics (back when it was Ontario Street Flea Market) and spent decades buying comics, Magic: the Gathering cards, and action figures. My family and I came here for a "Superheroes Read Too" event promoting literacy, though my sister is a long-time customer here. I love how small and cozy it is, a real hole-in-the-wall with amazing finds. They have something for everyone, even my 20-month-old (who particularly likes Matchbox cars and islands he can do laps around). Each time you go, something new pops out at you. I love all the events they have with local cosplayers; it's a real contributing part of the community, not just selling stuff but promoting literacy and an animated heritage. read more

Over the years I have jumped in and out of comics, but I have always loved this store. They always have new toys and collectables in every time I go. They bag and board all comics at no charge. They also have the most extensive collection of back issues out on display to rummage through that I have ever seen. But most importantly the staff is great. I was excited to go here bc Unbreakable was filmed here & its about 10 mins from my house. The place is like hoarder heaven. It smells of dust & it seems like they are willing to sell everything they find (Go to a comic store & leave with a porcelain cat!). True it has a huge selection of comics but sometimes finding what you want is just annoying. The store is extremely unorganized & the staff is okay. Well geeze, that's obscure, but it's right over there. The staff are friendly, they great you with the awkward hello of a comic fan who has spent too much time in the basement, and they are very happy to help you, should you need it. Found out about this store on yelp I was a lil iffy at first since its kinda in "the hood" but shoot lets check it out....I parked right in front of the store walked in a regular door got greeted by a woman... and then I looked in I was like woah! This place is huge!!!! And there's another room that I didn't even see...a lot of comic books stacks and stacks this is like the ultimate nerd heaven lol! A lot of action figures and some sports figures and sports cards...I found some old spiderman books and dare devil which were bagged and boarded and in great condition! I'm relatively new to the comic book world. I've always had an interest and did not know where to begin. The man who owns it is crazy fellow who calls himself the captain and is only crazy because he is generous enough to offer "free booty" to his customers. The entire crew is very helpful and steered me in the right direction as I wandered the store aimlessly looking for a place to begin.
