Coming out of my Yelp hiatus just for this one. I'll start with the good: seemed clean, Trisha did a great job on my pedicure. The bad: TL;DR 4 technicians and 2.5 hours later for basic services and subpar nails. *Made the appointments the day prior with whoever was available. The salon was unaware of who I was in reference to an appointment or what I scheduled when I walked in. When again sharing the services I needed, I also said we're doing nails that may require some experience (which was also mentioned on the phone when I made my appointment). I asked for builder gel with extensions, as they advertise they do and why I selected this salon. *My appointment started with a pedicure about 10-15 minutes after my appointment time. *I told the owner what nails I wanted. I waited another 15 minutes for the next nail tech after my pedicure was finished. When I finally sat down, I showed her the inspiration photo, she started to take my dip powder off, then abruptly stopped. I was told I need to wait another 10 minutes for a different technician. I finally get the next technician, she looks at my nails and my inspiration photo, and walked away within 60 seconds. She says nothing to me. *Another tech comes over (we're at the fourth tech in total at this point). He looks at my photo and is very unhappy. Tells me they'll break, which I know isn't true. So finally, I just ask to give me regular builder gel in a single color. I had to ask repeatedly to make sure my nails were uniform in shape and length. So, I didn't get the nails I hoped for, the nail job was shoddy, and it took 2.5 hours to get it done. And wait until you see the inspiration photo--it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. read more

The technician pointed to the two most expensive pedicure treatments, asking which one I wanted but when I asked for the most basic, I felt she intentionally did a bad job. She did not file or even out my nails, trim cuticles, nor clean up the nail polish on my skin. At the end, she hurriedly put on the disposable slippers as if she wanted me to leave before I could see. Honestly, one of the worst pedicures I have ever received. Today i had an issue where the lady up front charged me 60$ for my 10 year old daughters toes (gel] and her hands also gel. its 15$ each and she charged me 60$ saying i agreed to a "kids basic pedicure" i did not. I didn't even know it existed. She also tried to blame my daughter and say "she said yes to it" but i'm the parent why not ask me ? They complained that my nails were too short but In the photo with the pink nails a different salon did them with my SHORT nails and they didn't not once pop off or break in half. On top of that I showed them the reference I wanted and told them I wanted it exactly like the photo but In blue. THEY DIDNT do nothing right and didn't do it how I wanted it at all. AND THEY are expensive for no reason.. almost $200 for an acrylic mani pedi.. that's outrageous especially when they didn't do it how I wanted. The vibe was not right. And obviously the quality was bad if the full nails literally pop right off and I didn't even have them for a full week. Very disappointed and a waste of money wouldn't recommend. I'm not from San Diego I was just visiting for a week. I went to a different nail shop and showed them the photo and they said it would only be $95 in total.. onyx charged me $176.. read more

I really like to have nails that are navy friendly. They have to be within regulations, but I like to feel beautiful and creative. This place is really pretty, and they offer complementary drinks. I've always wanted to find a place like that in California! Danielle technician I had was really good at knowing what I would like and what is with the Navy regulations. Wish I could give John 5 stars because my nail shape came out ok, however I didn't like the end of my experience. I called and asked for acrylic, they didn't do that, I got gel which is not the biggest problem. I was told on the phone that it would be $50 and when I go to pay they say $70. If I would've known that gel and the color I got would be and extra $20 I wouldn't have done it, I went in for short natural color nails, nothing crazy, and walked out without even getting what I wanted and $70 wasted on some see through nails. read more

Great service from the staff, we were greeted upon entering and requested for 2 pedicures and they immediately sat us down. Lynh & Hoa gave my partner a mani pedi while I got the organic spa pedicure which came with scrub heel, trim nails, clean cuticles, callus remover, sugar scrub, 10 minute massage, hot stone, and polish. It also came with a mask that left the skin on my legs feeling super soft. The salon is towards of the back of the plaza but there is plenty of parking in the lot & it's conveniently located next to a boba shop which was great lol Prices were fair & they do state on the list of services that they give complimentary drinks but you may need to ask for them because they weren't offered to us. I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 because It was pretty warm inside & I don't mind being asked to write a review but what was a little unprofessional was the worker who asked me to write it stood directly behind me as she had me open up Yelp & search for them to write my review but we weren't done with our manicure/pedicures yet. When I turned off my screen and stopped writing she asked if I was done but I kindly told her I'm going to edit and finish writing it at a later time and so she said okay and walked away. I went recently got a pedicure and nails the 3 days after one nail broke and I went to get it fixed they told me if I wanted to get it fix I had to wait up to 30 mins or more because they were busy and only the person that did could do the nail. Another lady came and told me you don't want to come tomorrow better , I waited because I told her I had somewhere to go that day in the afternoon need to get it fix. I have been coming to Onyx now for three acrylic sets and I keep coming back! From ombré French, to colored powder set with design and then a colored French tip...they've done a great job every time. Each set has lasted me well over 3 weeks without lifting or breaking despite having a very hands-on job and going to the gym every day. The salon is always super clean and tidy with plenty of comfortable seating. The staff is always sweet and pleasant with a very customer-centric workflow and do everything they can to make me feel welcomed and comfortable.
