i've been making lots of random decisions with my hair over the last year, even going red at one point in time, but I was ready to go blonde. After having two sessions of highlights and toners, I was ready to go full bright and fresh blonde! I'm so grateful for Ashley being my stylist, as she knows a lot about color correction. We talked about how my hair pulls red easily and that I was trying to avoid overly brassy tones in my hair. My stylist did such an amazing job. She pulled out all the darker hair, blended it with my previous highlights, and added the perfect toners to fix everything up. It turned out so bright and pretty -- exactly the blonde I wanted! I've just been using purple shampoo once or twice a week to keep it looking fresh, and it's still holding up great with no brassiness at all. I've been getting so many compliments lately, even random people stopping me when I'm out with my little guy. It makes me so happy! If you're wanting to go blonde like this, just know it's not a quick box dye thing. It takes real skill to lift, blend, tone, and correct everything the right way. I've seen a couple reviews from people who used box dye at home and then expected the exact same look in one visit -- it doesn't work like that! First time here, and I do recommend Katie Jo. She listens, I mean really listens to what you're trying to achieve when it comes to your hair. I have thick, crazy,problematic hair and I've been to other salons in town and nobody really gets it right. Katie Jo was professional and friendly. So I tried this place for the first time because I REALLY needed some hair maintenance! When I called I didn't really have any idea what I wanted or from who? I didn't look at reviews of the place or anything..I just called and took a chance! My appointment was set up with Gracie Chavez. When I arrived, I was greeted with all smiles from the staff and immediately put into a chair! Gracie was everything I hoped she would be! Beautiful, open minded, attentive! I told her that I needed a haircut and some highlights, but honestly, she could do pretty much whatever she wanted as long as she didn't take too much length off! My hair is super long! Well past my behind!! And omg, she killed it!!! It was so beautiful I cannot believe that i did not take before and after pictures but she did and maybe I can find them! But I loved it and she was so good I was literally falling asleep in the chair the whole time! I loved her and 5 stars for Onyx too I loved the atmosphere! Since it was my first time visiting Onyx, I showed up 5 minutes early for my 9am appointment. Nobody was there, but I didn't think much of it, since I know they open at 9. At 9:00 on the nose, a woman showed up to unlock the door, looked me up and down, and asked if I had an appointment. I told her I did. She asked me who the appointment was with, and I told her it was with Ashley Reardon, based on the text confirmation I'd gotten. She told me I could sit in Ashley'd chair and told me which one it was. She confirmed that my appointment was on the books and told me that Ashley was sometimes late because she lives far away. I shrugged it off and figured she would be just a few minutes late. I gave it until 9:10. Nobody had said another word to me since I was asked to sit in Ashley's chair. I walked slowly to the door to see if the woman would stop me. Nope. Didn't even acknowledge that I was leaving. At around 9:15, as I was driving home, I got a call from Onyx. It was Ashley. To her credit, she started by apologizing, but in the same breath gave me an excuse about being on the phone with her doctor, she knew it was a holiday, her legs were bothering her, etc, etc, etc. Once she stopped making excuses, I asked why nobody had told me she was going to be so late. She said, "The other girl texted me to tell me you were there at 9:03, and I texted her right back, but I guess she didn't see it." Basically, she didn't even worry about letting anyone know she was late until someone else texted her, three minutes after the appointment was supposed to start. Ashley wanted me to drive back to Onyx for my appointment--she said, "I have about an a hour and a half which should be plenty of time." Excuse me. So because she was late, I was supposed to come back, but make sure I didn't overstay my welcome, because I guess she has other clients she actually cares about that were coming after my slot. The cherry on top was when I got a text from Onyx, telling me that they had marked me as a "no show." The entire exchange was, frankly, shocking. I had asked around for the most upscale salon in town, and Onyx was recommended. In my experience, upscale salons have people working the front desk, and if a stylist doesn't show, they at least let the client know what's going on. Embarrassing. I won't be back. read more

Fantastic new spa in historic downtown North Topeka. Massages, nails, hair, makeup, etc... we are from Topeka and live in the KC area now. My wife still drives back to Topeka just to go to Heather (owner). The interior is super relaxing and in a really cool historic building. There is a library in the back and a nice waiting area. Make sure you get a selfie on the princess thrown in the waiting room!! The prices are great and the quality is amazing. Definitely check on the client list to see if they are excepting new clients when you are in the area if you are looking for a new salon to go to. read more
