Oooooh dat chicken that I had for lunch today was pretty good. I was out searching for another food truck, and then this place caught my attention. I was still a little hesitant until this nice woman came along and vouched for the food. I had no idea about what to order, but as soon as I saw her food come out I was sold. I told the guys to give me exactly what she had, which included a quarter chicken, corn, and potatoes. I got back up to my office and enjoyed all of it. The chicken was well done and well seasoned, the corn was tasty, and the potatoes were better than what I was expecting. Can't really explain it but they were like roasted and mashed at the same time.. whatever it was it was great! Oh and that sweet orange sauce that they gave me took the chicken to another level. Well...I meant to take a picture of my lunch. Really, I did. But...it was gone too fast... Today was my second time at Ooh Dat. Both times I've ordered the same thing - a quarter dark meat with one side. It comes with basmati rice (which you can sub out for a different side) and a choice of a salad, coleslaw, and corn. I've chosen the coleslaw both times - I find it so unique, with its cabbage and basil-like dressing. Definitely NOT your usual slaw. I will try the corn one of these days, though. On to the chicken - They give you a good amount of chicken and it is very, very juicy. I can't comment about the skin (I don't eat the skin, I take it off...I know to some of you that's a sin!) but my co-workers have previously commented that it is nicely seasoned. They also provide you with a mild barbeque sauce, and today they gave me a new sauce, which was curry-based. It's slightly thicker than the barbeque sauce, which while it has good flavor, is a bit thinner (it complements, not overpowers, the chicken). I alternated between both sauces today. I have to also complement the owner/manager - I had exactly $8 in cash (keep forgetting about the taxes for food trucks!) so he let me go without paying the $.80, that was really nice of him. This food truck was sitting out by L'Enfant station, so I decided to try it out. The service was friendly and efficient. I love Peruvian Chicken because it is so flavorful, moist, but not greasy. It was weird because I ordered a 1/4 dark, but the thigh was dry. A part of the issue is that the pieces already cut up are just sitting at the bottom of the rotator, so they dry out. I did appreciate that they used a cast iron to heat up my piece so the chicken came out really hot (good service!). The collard greens weren't the typical greens that are slow cooked and soft, but it still had texture to it. I liked the flavor and surprisingly, the texture. The rice was overcooked, but the black beans on top were really good! Ask for that - its free, you just need to ask if they don't ask! It's no easy decision opening a food truck just a week after new regulations are added that finally force customers to pay taxes on your sales, along with the cooling temperatures outside...and if my decline of mobile eatery mentions is any indication the sun has set on the first peak of the DC food truck scene that lasted a good two years before its eventual decline. Nevertheless, there are still some pioneers out there coming up with new truck ideas that DC hasn't yet seen and actually executing them well. Ooh Dat Chicken Truck is one of those few, hitting the market at the beginning of the fall season with beautiful rotisserie roasted chickens and a nice assortment of side dishes. I had to walk home on Friday during lunch to take my "shared custody" dog Bocuse out for a walk, since I was watching her over the weekend and never know what she'll get into when I'm not around, when I happened to spot this truck with its crazy paneling reminiscent of a juiced up Virginia Tech "Hokie" bird. It was definitely a new one for me in a park usually filled with familiar offerings, so I sauntered over was shocked to find a couple dozen succulent looking birds spinning on their rotisserie oven. I was sold at the sight of them. They might not have the intoxicated charcoal smokey smell as the Peruvian joints that dot this area, but they had a really nice glaze, alluding to a flavorful skin with moist meat underneath. Normally I wouldn't have given a second thought to ordering the half a chicken, but since I had to walk up 14th Street while eating I figured I should stick to the quarter to make the container slightly more manageable. The size of the chicken provided could certainly be more generous, but it wasn't so small that it's worth knocking much in rating. I did appreciate the fact that their meal comes with two sides as well (for a total around $7.50 after tax), helping people at least have the option of eating slightly healthier options than just a lot of meat in a bun (which if you do want you can happily get at the Carnivore truck). The chicken lived up to my expectations and was pleasantly juicy inside, although I did expect just a bit more kick from the flavor of the skin, given their mention of Aji peppers and cumin in the spice rub. The roasted corn also didn't have much of the poblano flavor that was advertised, but the potato salad was a surprising hit. The creaminess was just right, and even though it had raw onions (which I normally hate) they didn't overpower the flavor at all. The guys operating the truck were incredibly nice and not pushy at all considering they had just opened. I really like the freshness of the food here and to give it some sort of comparison, imagine the food that Boston Market produces except actually done well, and for less, and that should give you a good starting point. Thankfully they also accept credit cards, so those new tax laws shouldn't have you worried about carrying around a lot of unnecessary pocket change after ordering here. read more

This could be a one-time occurrence as it appears that nearly everyone finds the chicken to be rather juicy, or, perhaps it is relegated only to the white meat chicken, as Jennifer D's review suggests. In any event, the problem is mostly solved by liberally coating each bite with their honey mustard BBQ. Sides and service are both winners here. Don't judge them by the ridiculous name... their food is DELISH. My co workers had a good chuckle imagining how they tell you the name of their food truck if you ask. "ooooooooooooooo DAT chicken!" seems a bit odd for a name. Even funnier that their web address is on the front of their truck as www.oohdatchicken.com - which turned our jokes into wwwwwwwwwwwwwohhhhh! DAT chicken! We are children, I know. I had the 1/4 white meal meal - which was 9 bucks plus tax and it was seriously tasty. I had the basil cole slaw which was out of this world and not a traditional american mayonnaise mess. I got a half chicken today. These guys are very friendly, and this is some of the best chicken that I've had. It's hard to make chicken taste outstanding, but these guys get it. Think - Super Chicken but even better. Believe me when I say this TRUCK has better Peruvian style chicken than ANY restaurant in the area hands down, there is no competition. I'm pretty sure if they had one of these in Lima, Peru it would be slammed all day and night. They have incredible sides too ask for Chef Jason's shirazi salad (my personal favorite) and their sauces are out of this world, way better than the typical green and yellow ones you get at the other lower quality places. I hit these guys up yesterday after reading the positive reviews and I am happy to add another one to the mix. I ended up getting the 1/4 white meat selection (you can do whole, half, quarter) for about $8.00 and it was a huge piece of chicken! A whole breast and then some... And it was delicious. Super juicy with a perfectly semi-charred (not burnt, think rotisserie here) outside and awesome flavor. WAY better than the stuff you pick up at the grocery store. Will agree with other Yelpers on the sides, thought. I got there late (about 1pm---they seem to sell out early so be forewarned) and they only had cole slaw and the rice. Neither were impressive, unfortunately. The coleslaw lacked any flavor, even S&P and the rice, while tender, also suffered from being under-seasoned. Again, I got there late so maybe this was the last of the batch but still, under-seasoned food is a travesty. Anyway, I will definitely return to get their chicken and might even grab a whole one to take home for dinner given the hefty portions. Hope they get their sides worked out because this truck is definitely worth talking about. 3.5 stars really. It's good rotisserie chicken, but far from the best I've ever had. I'd put it about the same level as Boston Market... but with more herbs, but less juicy and less tender. It can't touch the old Kenny Rogers Roasters, which have sadly disappeared, except for on reruns of Seinfeld. I had the half chicken with the cucumber salad. The white meat portion was rather dry, while the dark meat portion was juicer, but still not 'fall of the bone' tender. The cucumber salad had too much of an herb that I'm not really a fan of, dill, I think it was, but that's really more of a personal preference than something they did wrong. The rice was just rice, flavored with saffron (although I didn't see any orange stains to make me think they were actually using real saffron), but the taste was similar to what you would get at an Indian restaurant. I did really like the flavor of the 'BBQ sauce', although it's not really BBQ sauce, its more of a citrus mustardy sort of sauce, but it went perfectly with the chicken and the sides. So all in all, if your in the mood for some rotisserie chicken and you happen to be near this truck, its worth checking out. But I wouldn't go out of my way to get it. read more

I'll be honest, I knew these guys just a little while before the awesomeness that is Ooh Dat Chicken came to bless the DC streets (the chef and I worked together at a restaurant). So, I was stoked to see the truck parked right outside my job one day a couple of weeks ago. I came out for lunch and they had a ridiculously long line (that I couldn't wait in unfortunately, but was super happy to see!). Today I got to try out the food, and it is delicious! Chicken is juicy and flavorful, and don't miss out on their basil coleslaw (with two types of cabbage). Being from LA, I'm uber critical of the food truck scene ... What do I want to see from "Ooh Dat" (as ppl in line were calling the truck)? As they grow and develop, I'd love to see more finger friendly foods...they do have soft tacos (which were sold out), and as I was eating my plate of food (large portions, for those of us looking for more bang for our buck!)... I was imaging all that goodness wrapped up in a burrito (cause let's face it: everything's better in a burrito...or fried... or with butter, right?). Also, I love my sauces, and they have a yellow sauce that goes great with the chicken... but I can see a lot of value added if they crafted a couple of other speciality sauces as options on their menu items. These guys are a hard-working, stand up group. Find them on Twitter and go support! It'll be well worth it! * As a last little note, reading some of the other reviews, understand a few things: this is a new truck. Any feedback you have, give it to the guys directly. They are friendly and I'm sure would appreciate the input. This is a new food truck that's only been around for a few days, but it's off to a very promising start! Somehow they were almost out of chicken by 12:45, but my coworker and I managed to place our orders. I ordered the quarter chicken, which came with a choice of 2 sides for $7. The chicken was great, very well seasoned and juicy. The sides are a bit trickier, though. I ordered potato salad and rice and the potato salad was the best I've ever had. The rice, on the other hand, was white rice with butter (think Persian style), but ended up being really dry and overcooked. Luckily they have several other sides, so one doesn't have to get the rice. I'm definitely coming back, and can't wait till these guys iron out the kinks over the next few weeks. read more
