Even I know that there two general concepts to shopping: you have your edgy boutiques where you might find a cool shirt or tie that will catch the ladies attention. These boutique are on the rougher side of town and can be a hit or a miss. In the art world, this is represented by the Wynwood gallery walk. The Art Center on Lincoln Road, then, is a Shopping mall of art. It has long hours into the evening, huge glass windows where you can see the art being exhibited as well as a variety of styles. Whether you're looking for pop art, social critique or political art you're likely to find it inside the two stories of the ArtCenter. There's also the chance to see some of the artists at work, who even leave their contact phone number. I think they even offer occasional art classes for the public.

This place is beyond cool. Walk through the center and check out eat studio. If the artist isnt in - call em. Their number is on the door. They will come right over and open it up for you. For the artist that are in - just wander in their studio. Admire the work and play the staring game until they acknowledge you. They are busy creating more magic but have no problem shootin the sht with you. I will upload the rest of the foto's when I get around to it. Im unorganized at the moment.

The meet-up point is the Art Deco Welcome Center in South Beach, located in a park adjacent to the beach at 10th Street. We parked in a pay-lot about 4 blocks away on Washington Street. There were plenty of spaces when we arrived at 9:45 a.m. or so, but it was pretty full later when we left (a bit before 1 p.m.). I was pleasantly surprised that the cost was under $10! We checked in and were invited to browse the gift shop or to check out the Art Deco Museum. We did both. They also issued us lanyard-and-headphone combos for the tour. They had enough people booked such that they split it into 2 tours. Whoever was there a bit early was assigned to the first one, and we headed out by 10:20 a.m. Our guide was Howard. He had a voice that carried quite a ways, so we didn't end up needing the headphones. Given the topology, there were no hills to climb. Everything was uniformly flat. The tour began with a short history of Miami Beach, the concept of Art Deco, and why there happened to be a concentration of the style there. They later touched on how the preservation efforts saved it in the 1970s. Much of the rest of the tour was walking up Ocean Blvd (as well as some other streets) with Howard pointing out features on various buildings and how they reflect various aspects of Art Deco. It also involved the history of the buildings and what they are used for currently. We went into the lobby of one hotel for an interior glimpse. The tour also included a few other miscellaneous structures along the route (Versace's mansion and the oldest remaining house on the island, from 1916). The tour wrapped up after a bit over 90 minutes back near the visitors' center where it started. I thought this was quite a good overview of the subject and provided a lot of insights about the area and its history. If you have an interest in Art Deco and this area, you should definitely check it out.

I have been to Miami couple times and passed by that area many times but never knew the history on this street. Joining this tour makes the cultural icon of Miami even more colourful and meaningful! SaludArte aims to integrate and empower individuals with disabilities through artistic expression. They invited our Art Class from The WOW Center Miami, along with 20 of our students, to experience a two day workshop with amazing dancers from Spain. Our students all have different disabilities, from autism to Down syndrome, and every single one left feeling inspired and free. SaludArte brings different artists to every workshop they host and it's beyond incredible for every participant! They learned how to improvise and make art with their bodies based on what they hear and feel! Our next workshop will be with a sculpture artist! We can not wait! Besides hosting these workshops, SaludArte hosts a whole Art Gallery showing for different people - whether it be someone not trained professionally or someone with a disability. They have kindly asked us to fill their space this upcoming August and we are ecstatic to show off our students work in such a beautiful space with kind hearted people! This nonprofit does such a beautiful job supporting those often overlooked and they are beyond worth checking out! Check their website for a Calendar of events and don't miss out!
