Second time here and it was another great experience. It was a lot busier this time around, and we had to wait about 20 min to be seated. Once inside, our server was polite and friendly. This time I ordered the Philly roll which was delicious and very fresh. Inside this restaurant has a very authentic look and feel, which was why we chose to come back to this spot. They validate parking for 2 hours here which is also nice.

Small but cozy spot tucked inside Little Tokyo Village. The service was attentive and friendly. I was surprised by the wide selection of fish available for nigiri, and everything tasted very fresh. The cuts of fish were on the thicker side, and while I usually prefer a more conservative slice, I was pretty hungry that day and definitely appreciated the generosity. They also have an excellent selection of appetisers, and I ended up ordering two of each because they were just that good. Ankimo: 9/10 - Fresh, rich, and savoury, paired perfectly with the citrusy ponzu and the crunchy texture of the wakame. Fried Squid Legs: 9/10 - Loved that they actually give you a massive portion of tentacles. Crispy, satisfying, and well seasoned. Soft Shell Crab: 8/10 - Simple, crunchy, and packed with flavour.

It's a nice restaurant at the end of the village in Little Tokyo. It's a lot bigger on the inside than it seems. We went on a very busy day for lunch, when I signed in to the waitlist, we were about 10th on the list, but wait less than 30 mins. Parking is all over the place in Little Tokyo, but it's as expected, though they do 2hr validation if you parked in the village. Oomasa has a good mix of Japanese dishes for everyone at a variety of price points, generally on the higher end though. I enjoyed their bento boxes. There's a variety of them to choose from and they're well balanced. All come with rice and miso soup. Portions themselves, like most Japanese restaurants are on the smaller side, but it's enough to fill you up and I think prices are reasonably fair. We got the ika geso age since it's normally one of our favorites appetizers at a Japanese restaurant. Crispy and well seasoned. I wish there was more of it. You don't even need to use the accompanying chipotle mayo sauce, but it's a welcomed addition We got the chicken teriyaki and sashimi bento as well as the oomasa special bento box. I really enjoyed their sashimi, all the fish was portioned well, fresh, and delicious. The teriyaki was a low point. It wasn't bad by any means, but I wanted it to be crispier. I would recommend getting sauce on the side since it's heavily layered in it. Green tea is from a can, not housemade. Beer is on draft. Service is excellent. Staff is friendly and helpful. They'll check on you at appropriate times. Service was fast, we didn't have to wait long for anything.

Food was very underwhelming and expensive af (2 stars since I guess it's edible), but service was friendly and welcoming (+1 star). I got the ika geso (fried squid legs) for appetizer. The moment it came out, my heart dropped because WHY WERE THERE SO FEW PIECES unlike the photo in the menu. There were 7 pieces, so that's about $1.54 a piece ($10.75 for the dish)! The fish in the chirashi sushi tasted and smelled fishy, and the texture was kinda soggy. Too much rice, not enough fish. The chirashi sushi was $31.75 for a bowl, which felt criminal for subpar quality. My friend and I each got a chirashi sushi, so the total bill ended up being $80+; my friend and I were both sorely disappointed.

Felt a little famished and always hesitant about coming here because of how busy it is in this area. I am glad I was able to try the place. We were greeted as soon as we entered and service was quick. I was shocked because the place seemed busy. The ambiance was quaint and welcoming. Everything was clean and well kept. My japanese mama liked it and gave a thumbs up. My Chirashi was excellent. I would recommend this dish because of the variety. Parking around here is tricky. There is a parking close by that is $4 that is across from the metro station.

It's been over 8 years since the last time I've been to Oomasa. I used to come here several times a year while my daughter was attending USC & UCLA Med School and it was always a must to dine here during my trips. I drove in from Vegas with my step-daughter, her husband and their children, and we had to come here for dinner. The taste and quality of their food hasn't changed, I'm happy to say, and everything was as good as I remember. They're located in the heart of Little Tokyo, in the Japan Town Plaza. It's a little mall filled with a dozens of Japanese restaurants and themed stores offering a variety of food and merch. The staff is friendly, and many of them speak both Japanese and English. Since we had 2 small children, we were seated at a booth, rather than the sushi bar. Service was quick and our food orders came out within a few minutes of ordering. The karaage chicken appetizer is one of the best we've had anywhere, and is a definite must try. The fish is very fresh, and they offer a baked mussel appetizer that is also one of my favorites. It was a great dinner and I only hope it's not another 8 years before I enjoy Oomasa again.

I'm a HUGE sushi fan and was visiting my sister in LA for the weekend. We visited Little Tokyo and hours of shopping until we dropped, it was time to eat! We didn't have our mind set on a place beforehand but we decided to go with this place. There wasn't a huge wait for 2 and we sat at the sushi bar which ended up being a great experience! We were presented with hot towels which is similar to Japan and I ordered the Spicy tuna roll and the Caterpillar roll (not pictured). I've had a fair share of sushi in my life and I was shocked to say that my favorite sushi ever was in Little Tokyo - but it's so true! It was sooooo fresh and yummy and it was very easy and not super filling to eat and the sushi chef was super kind. When I go back to LA, I will definitely be stopping here again!

I've been going to little Tokyo for many years and I've never been here. I need to start going more because this place is fantastic! The value and the variety of menu items is what makes this place stand out. I got the sushi set A and the tonkatsu tempura set. Highly quality ingredients and fresh fish. You write your name down on the list and wait to be called. Service was friendly and I appreciated how many times they came to check up on us. Interior is beautiful and clean. Restrooms were clean too.

Little eatery in Little Tokyo. Not just sushi, though they have great rolls, but they also have tasty plate and bowls. Tried the oyakodon bowl and was treated to a flavor explosion! Hearty, rib-sticking, it did the trick! My wife's rolls were delicious and the miso was as good as any I've ever had. With the number of little eateries in the area, this place can get overlooked. Don't miss out!

Oomasa has been around for decades and my in-laws love meeting up here. We have a centenarian family member that loves it here and been dining at this restaurant since it opened up in 1972. I don't think this place is stellar as some dishes can be a hit or miss, but the overall menu has a good variety of sushi, rolls, bento combinations, appetizers and side dishes. Oomasa is a-okay. 2hr Parking Validation for Japanese Village Plaza parking structure. Service is attentive and restaurant is cozy old-school.

This is a great spot to stop by if you're in Little Tokyo and are craving some fresh seafood ~ There's a multitude of items to pick from here, from sashimi, to nigiri, rolls and even bento box combos. I went with the bara chirashi (which had a limited quantity that could be ordered each day) and my dad had the bento #4 with salmon and chicken teriyaki and both ordered a cold green tea. The service was fast, the green tea came in cans but were still really really good. The place was on the quieter side if you're someone who doesn't want to shout to be heard. The fish quality was really high, with the fish roe tasting only of sea water.

Located in busy Tokyo Village, Los Angeles. This is a great traditional Japanese restaurant, featuring fresh cuts of sashimi and sushi. Wonderful assortment of teishoku menu items, such as the combination tempura and sashimi for $23.50. I highly recommend their chirashi sushi/. Fresh cuts of sashimi over sushi rice with tamago. The nabeyaki udon was also delicious.

Food - quality was good... they were served as described. Prices were also reasonable. Service - staff was very courteous and friendly. They also were attentive with our requests. Ambiance - they have ample seating and decorations are decent.

Ask the Community - Oomasa Restaurant

    Do you take reservations?

It's walk in, when busy you can place your name on a list, but beware if your name is called and you're not there, they move on

Is there an omakase experience? If there is, how much is it?

No, I don't think there is omakase offered here.

Is it all you can eat sushi?

Nope, there is sushi but it's not ayce.

Did they bring back the normal bowls/utensils or are they still using all disposable plastic? I miss oomasa but last time I was there they only use disposable dishes due to the pandemic. The food didn't taste as good on styrofoam

Yes everything is back to normal. You should go back and try it!

    Is there outdoor seating?

    yes

Is the bar back on? Anyone eat at the sushi bar lately?

    yes

Can you guys accommodate large groups?

yes like 8 would probably be fine

    How's the sushi?

Bomb traditional hits. Great rice flavoring.

Can they accommodate a group of 10-12 or would we have to split up?

I think it's likely that you will have to split your group in half. They have booths that (I think) can squeeze 6 people each! You could try to ask them if they could save them next to each other. I would call ahead of time and ask.

    All you can eat sushi?

No, it's not AYCE. That's how they serve quality foods.

    Do they offer ayce?

No, and for a good reason! I would make them go bankrupt with my appetite and craving their food! And just forget about it if my whole family goes there!! But, the portions are quite generous!

Mushrooms are delicately seasoned and cooked correctly, the texture of the noodles have a perfect bounce/chew to them, and that cream sauce? Addicting. This place has this distinct homey comfort type of vibe to it. The restaurant's decorations aren't too over the top. Most importantly, it's such a clean establishment. There was not anyone at the restaurant at the time, but people did start trickling in as more time elapsed. We got our food relatively quickly as well. FOOD: I ordered the spicy pork tsukemen ($23.45), which is their dipping noodle. The noodles are thicker than standard ramen, but in a good way! It comes with thick chashu (thick, fatty pork) slices and soft boiled eggs. If you haven't had tsukemen before, you essentially dip your noodles into the broth and then eat it that way. The broth is extremely flavorful and there are also pieces of chashu in it as well. The only critique that I have regarding this is the broth was lukewarm which made the dish taste slightly off. I've tried this dish at another branch and the broth was also lukewarm there, so I'm not sure if this is a location issue or a standard amongst all branches. Also, this dish does not really have any vegetables in this, but I also don't know if traditional tsukemen has veggies included. SERVICE: Service was quick and everyone was nice and doing their job. Didn't seem like the staff was slacking or messing around while there weren't many customers. They were very attentive to us, refilling our water immediately once they saw it was getting low, and being very attentive towards if we had any other concerns or if we needed anything else. PARKING: There technically is street parking but since it's in Little Tokyo, it's going to be very difficult to find it. There's $4-6 valet parking available nearby the location. There are a lot of people walking around though so just be safe. INTERIOR: It's not too big of a place but it's also not too small as well. It looks very well kept and clean. BATHROOM: Two gender neutral bathroom stalls that are both very clean and accessible. No issues here with them. TLDR: Overall, I thought the place was pretty good to eat at! I would definitely come back for the tsukemen (as long as the broth is warmed up until it's hot). A very good dish combined with great music (they have some great Japanese music variety) is definitely a spot worth coming to with friends !! :))

It's been sitting on my saved list for a while, and honestly, this turned out to be the perfect opportunity. The space itself is bright, clean, and welcoming with warm woody tones throughout. Casual setup where you order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. I had already looked through the menu beforehand, so the real challenge was narrowing down what to order for one person. I failed at that... and I'm very happy I did. Started with the Pig Ear Salad 滷豬耳朵. Braised thin sliced pig ears dressed with soy sauce, chili oil, sesame oil, scallion, and cilantro. OMG. So good. Tender, flavorful, perfectly braised, with that satisfying chewy texture done right. Also got the Fried Peanut Salad 五味花生 with garlic, cilantro, scallions, vinegar, and Thai chili. Super crunchy, bright, refreshing, and honestly addicting. I added a cup of the Hot & Sour Soup 酸辣湯 too. Organic tofu, beech mushroom, carrot, bamboo, woodear mushroom, and egg. Super comforting with a really balanced tang and peppery heat. Not overly thick or heavy like a lot of Americanized versions can be. Exactly the kind of soup you want during a long travel day. For noodles, I ordered the Dan Dan Noodles 擔擔麵. Sesame-peanut sauce, cucumber, cilantro, crushed peanuts. Delicious on its own already, but I ended up adding some of the fried peanuts from the salad into the noodles and it became even better. Then the Three Cup Chicken 三杯雞 with sesame oil, soy sauce, rice wine, and Thai basil. I do wish it had a little more wok hei, but overall the flavor was still really comforting and savory. Extremely good with rice. Had a glass of Gewürztraminer alongside everything, which paired surprisingly well with the spice and aromatics. Their wine list leans more organic / natural wine focused, which felt very LA in a good way. Ended up sitting at a high top next to one of the managers and had a great conversation throughout the meal. She ended up hooking me up with the Traditional Shaved Ice 傳統刨冰 with grass jelly, red bean, boba, sweet potato balls, taro balls, brown sugar syrup, and condensed milk. I was already planning to order it anyway, and wow... I finished the entire thing. The brown sugar syrup was incredibly fragrant. I particularly liked their brown sugar milk team as it comes with boba and grass jelly. And their mochi was SO delicious. This would be a place my parents would enjoy a lot.
