Went to the Vibe event at the Cultural Arts Center and decided to give this truck a try since I remember seeing great things about it. I decided to go with the sliders bc I wanted to try the brisket and the pork. It said on the menu they came with sauce and slaw but there was no slaw and the sliders were cold. The meat was cold and the buns seemed like they were just pulled out of the pack and no heat to them. Overall the sauce and flavor was good and the brisket and pork were cooked well but I would like for the food to be hot and include what it's supposed to have. Just tried their food truck at Sycamore Brewery. The first thing that caught me was the pricing. For just $11, I got a huge portion of chopped pork, Mac and cheese AND sweet potatoes. The bbq was the perfect balance of Smokey and sweet - I'm dying to try it on a sandwich with some slaw. The Mac and cheese was creamier than I expected but still had a nice thick top layer. We ordered the bbq at a Kannapolis Intimidators game, and it was awesome. We ordered the sundae dog, which as a hot dog topped with Mac and cheese, baked beans, and coleslaw. We also got the pork bbq plate with Mac and cheese and coleslaw. Everything was delicious! The pulled pork was smoky with sweet bbq on top, some crunchy bits and ends. Lots of local bbq places don't have great sides, but this place had awesome sides. The coleslaw was creamy and crunchy but really flavor with dry rub spice mixed it. The Mac and cheese was awesome, cheesy, delicious. The people in the truck were super friendly and nice even though they were busy and it was crazy hot. Service was excellent but my food could have been better at Food Truck Friday. The gentleman taking orders was hilarious and very personable. He provided recommendations when needed and was efficient in moving customers through the line. I ordered the BBQ pulled pork plate with 2 sides of macaroni and cheese because most of the sides I was interested were unavailable. The Mac and cheese had a good consistency and taste however it wasn't very warm which was quite disappointing. The pulled pork was my bigger let-down because I came across multiple fat blobs which normally cook down quite a bib. I also found several hard pieces that were inedible. For the cost, I feel the portion wasn't great and if the food quality was better I wouldn't have minded as much. Not sure I will be rushing to try this over other options in the future. read more

I think that something probably went wrong in the kitchen this day, but this was probably the worst chicken BBQ I've ever had in Charlotte. I had this yesterday at food truck Friday at sycamore, and the chicken tasted like day-old cardboard. I usually will eat most things, but I actually had to stop eating the food and throw it out because it was that bad. The Mac and cheese is the reason this gets 2 stars - it was average Mac and cheese but the highlight on the plate. Not so much a food truck as a trailer, this business is all about smoky BBQ with a few unique offerings that get points for originality. The menu breaks down pretty simply, you can have you choice of meat with as a sandwich (i.e. it's loaded between a bun) or as a platter, with your choice of 2 sides. Sides are Southern style and just what one would expect (baked beans, cole slaw, mac n' cheese, etc.). The meats are smoked and carry that flavor profile, along with a healthy dose of the BBQ sauce, which is a nice combo of tangy and sweet. Finger lickin' good to this guy! Sadly, the smoky flavor also carrie into the mac n' cheese, which is a downgrade in my book. I'd prefer the creamy richness of a good melting cheese to contrast against the smokiness and tang of the meat and sauce. In the originality column, though, is their salmon offering. Flaky, moist and it works surprisingly well with the BBQ sauce. I've got a new go-to at this mobile kitchen. Same goes for their spring rolls, and in particular the one stuffed with sweet potato. A crispy on the outside, yet chewy on the inside, wonton wrapper surrounds essentially the quintessential sweet potato casserole, complete with melted marshmellow, cinnamon, and butter. All deep friend to a golden brown. Folks, this is a serious fat boy food, but just one bite will have you finding every justification possible to finish off the very last bite. The same should be said for their BBQ Sundae. Now, you can't be a person who doesn't like their different foods to touch, but if you like to swirl it all up and taste the creation, this is for you. Layers of baked beans, cole slaw, meat and sauce all in a big cup. It's a full meal in a 16oz cup! It won't appeal to everybody, but it is clearly a hot seller and unique to this kitchen. In all, the meats are well smoked and flavored, the BBQ sauce is delectable and the sweet potato egg rolls should not be missed. This isn't the most elite of food trucks but they certainly have some competitive offerings. Who would think a BBQ vendor would have a variety of egg rolls on the menu?! Well these aren't your typical egg rolls! I tend to overeat when I visit OooWee. There are so many things that I want to try, I can't decide on just one. I've yet to try an egg roll that I didn't like but the sweet potato egg roll is a rolled piece of heaven! Can I have another? Nope, sold out. Wha!? Yep, they sell out fast so get to them early and get what you want first because THEY WILL RUN OUT! They are just that good! BBQ sundae? No, it doesn't come with ice cream and chocolate syrup. This concoction consists of layers of mac-n-cheese, baked beans, your choice of meat, coleslaw and BBQ sauce. It took a lot for me to try this beast of a sundae because I rotate my plate; I'm not a food mixer. If you eat your steak and potatoes in one shared bite, we probably can't be friends. Despite my hesitation, I had to give this novelty a try. I know, I've come a long way, right?! It was actually quite tasty! I'm not a huge fan of their mac-n-cheese though. The downside to this dish is the collection of grease at the bottom of the cup that then encompasses the mac-n-cheese. Boo. Perhaps a better option would be to put the meat and BBQ sauce in the bottom with the coleslaw on top, then the beans and finally the mac. With the sauce as the syrup to top it off, gravity takes effect. I want chocolate syrup throughout my ice cream sundae but I don't so much want BBQ sauce all through my mac-n-cheese and such. Either way, I'll give it to them for creativity and uniqueness. Good BBQ and excellent egg rolls. OooWee is good to me! Give them a try and see what you think! read more

I'll get the bad out of the way first. OooWee is by far the greasiest food truck OR BBQ I've ever experienced. If you get a plate of BBQ, my experience is that there's a full quarter inch of oil, minimum, at the bottom of the tray. I've taken to transitioning the meat to the top of the styrofoam container to allow it to drain. Without this step it's positively inedible. Ditto for their (still delicious) mac and cheese. This is really frustrating because to me, this could be remedied with a very small alteration to their equipment or serving process. A slotted spoon with a press should be an absolute no brainer. The level of disgust that the pooling generates takes OooWee from a "Get every time I see it/4 star" truck to "Only if I'm desperate for BBQ/3 star" truck. In terms of the good, the smoked mac is delicious and plenty cheesy - standard fare with a bit of a twist. Likewise, their coleslaw with dry rub salt is a big step up - I'm not normally a fan of straight up mayo slaw but the salt helps minimize that mayo flavor. The pork is pretty tender and the BBQ sauce is a southern-style tomato and molasses base. One critique is that the actual smokiness of the pork is a bit lacking - almost less than the mac and cheese. Maybe use less oil in the smoking process....? Frankly I haven't had anything else from the truck. It's a simple and to-the-point menu which is refreshing. The standard $1-2 food truck trend tax applies to most of the dishes here, but rest assured that the purchase of their $11 platter will leave you satisfied. read more

I recently had OooWee BBQ at Food Truck Friday at Sycamore Brewing. I'm not generally big on pulled pork, but I could not resist trying the BBQ Sundae. Holy smokes, it was tasty! It consists of hearty layers of sweet and smoky baked beans, creamy mac and cheese, your choice of meat (they have smoked pulled pork, chicken, brisket, and salmon if I'm remembering correctly), and fresh coleslaw, all topped with a drizzle of BBQ sauce. Each layer seems more delicious than the one before and the different flavors all work together perfectly. And I love the novelty of a savory sundae! It's served in a large sundae cup that is perfect for a food truck event with limited seating. It was easy to hold in one hand and eat while we were walking around checking out the other trucks and trying different beers. The BBQ Sundae is a must try! It's ideal for your first visit to OooWee because you get a taste of so many of their offerings all in one. I can't wait to have it again! Also, while standing in line I noticed an IU logo on the side of the truck. Since I'm a native Hoosier myself and remember my time in Bloomington fondly, I asked about it. Turns out the owner, George, also went to IU and was on the basketball team. He and his wife were so friendly and I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with them. The mac n cheese wasn't very cheesy and it was floating in oil, which is something I haven't come across before and would be happy to never come across again.
