I should have written this review along time ago. First i should say like others have on here that i felt the same way about knowing she was the one I wanted for my photographer as soon as we met. She was very prepared , So down to earth and actually listened to the fact that i had a tight budget i needed to stay in. I got married on 2/19/12 In San Jose, CA and Opal was a great big help in making my day a smooth one . She went above and beyond what i could ever expect from a photographer. She not only Took AMAZING PICTURES but she helped me and my girls finish putting together my cupcake stand , helped with my dress and when none of us could figure out how to do the bustle on my dress during my reception it was Opal to the rescue and she did it. Opal recently photographed my family for our annual holiday cards. I stumbled upon her through a facebook mom group. I am so glad I found her as her prices are extremely reasonable but the quality of her work is amazing! Initially when I contacted her inquiring about available dates, her sessions for that month were already all booked up. I had to wait for her to come to the area again which was another few weeks away. This actually worked out well as it gave me more time to plan our outfits. On the day of our meeting, she was on time, very nice and professional. She was great with my 2 young toddlers despite one being very shy and the other constantly moving around. We walked around different parts of a park for almost an hour capturing pictures with a good variety of backgrounds and poses. Less than 3 days later, she delivered a link to access all our pictures with the ability to digitally download original resolutions. The photos were all fantastic! I plan to have Opal take annual family pictures for us going forward. I would highly recommend her. read more

Opal photographed our wedding in San Francisco in October. She's wonderful, a real pleasure with whom to work. You can tell she really enjoys what she does, and she worked hard to get great photos for us. (We were actually worried for her when she stepped into the street to get some shots.) Our friends and family remarked at how friendly she was, and she was even great with the kids. She got a lot of artistic shots despite a long and rainy day. We also had an engagement session with her and highly recommend that too. It was fun (she had us run barefoot along the beach at one point), and we were really happy with the results. Opal is amazing. She photographed our wedding this past Sunday, and I could not be happier. During the ceremony, I didn't realize she was there (because she isn't intrusive!) and she didn't take away from the special moment. During our reception, it felt like there were 5 of her! She was in all the right places just as something was happening. Her photos are gorgeous (we had her shoot our engagement pictures too!) and she is so easy to work with. I loved that for the posed shots, she already had ideas of where to shoot, and directed us, but was also up for suggestions! Opal also is very reasonably priced, and is easy to contact throughout the whole process. Opal is great. She photographed my friend's wedding and on her great recommendation we decided to go with her for ours as well. We had to reschedule our engagement shoot a few times due to bad weather and scheduling conflicts, but she was really flexible and easy to communicate with. The day we finally did the shoot it was 93 degrees and I was ready to pass out and rip my clothes off screaming, but even while she as dripping in sweat she kept us moving and had a good attitude about it all. I was almost dreading seeing the final pictures because I was so hot, red and sweaty but she did a great job photoshopping the pictures to tone down the flush in my face and they actually came out great. She worked with us selecting sites and had great suggestions based on the direction we wanted to go in (something different than our friends' photos, something modern/unique and also incorprate classic vineyard shots). She'd shot there before so for the most part we were able to just move from spot to spot, get the picture and move on so we weren't baking any more than we had to. The turnaround time for the photos on CD was less than a week, and it's her standard practice to give you the rights to print the digital photos. (I can't believe this isn't a given with all photographers.) The enhancements she did to the pictures (as needed) were nice, some creative stuff but mostly just subtle improvements that looked awesome. We didn't opt to have her provide any prints but she does offer photo albums/books and her samples were absolutely gorgeous. We just aren't really album people. I've received so many compliments on our engagements photos from friends, and I can't wait to see how the wedding photos shot by Opal will turn out later this year! Oh, her prices are also reasonable, not an arm and a leg like many professional photographers out there, and she was even willing to work with us on the price/package somewhat so we really appreciated that she wanted our business. I ADORE OPAL! She is so warm and just a ball of sunshine! We hired Opal to shoot our engagement photos and I have got to say, she is fantastic! Easy to work with and knows what shes doing. We shot at 2 different locations which was not a problem for her. Very affordable and we got our photos back in 2 weeks on a CD and every picture (like 300) was edited beautifully. Even the bloopers. Opal photographed our intimate wedding in October of this year, and did a wonderful job. The photos looked great, and she did an excellent job of capturing the light in so many photos. I also appreciated that she was willing to charge hourly for her services, considering we didn't need nearly as much time as a traditional wedding. Amazing, Amazing job!.. Opal shot our engagement photos and the experience was so wonderful. We did the shoot at a few different venues and she was so patient with us. She has so many good ideas of what looks good and what locations would make for a good picture. I was at awe when she sent us the pictures. She captured some of the silly moments & they ended up being some of our favorites. As for the cost- it was a very affordable price for such incredible service. We both love Opal! My husband and I had Opal do our engagement and wedding photos, and we could not have been happier with her work or with working with her. The engagement photo session was a lot of fun and as a person who usually hates getting her picture taken, that was amazing: to just feel like myself and feel comfortable while someone is taking my picture. This is my second time working with Opal! She did the photography for my sister's wedding in 2011 and we hired her (and her husband, Ed the DJ!) for our wedding in 2014. I thought that I might want to try a different photographer for my wedding so as not to be EXACTLY like my sister (oops), but I kept being drawn back to Opal's photos. Not only are her photos beautiful, but she is beyond easy to work with. She is a calming presence when you are nervous and excited about your big day. Opal was extremely patient with me the day of the wedding and I appreciated her in more ways than I can describe! I often refer to her as the ninja of photographers because she is everywhere taking photos, yet nowhere to be seen! I've been to many weddings where the photographer gets in the way so they can get the "perfect shot." I've been pushed out of the way or moved so that a photographer can see better. Opal is NOTHING like that. You will be amazed at the photos she is able to get because, many times, you will not realize she is even taking your picture! My whole family loves her and holds the utmost respect for how she works and for who she is as a person. If you book Opal, you will not be disappointed. She is completely down to earth and go with the flow. She never makes you feel rushed or off schedule (even though you inevitably will be!). She was totally calm when I started panicking that I might faint (we got married in the middle of July on a pretty warm day and I was wearing a petticoat under my already heavy dress!) and she let me take my time to cool off even though it was cutting into our photo time. We hired Opal to shoot our wedding and engagement session. Let me just say that we were beyond dissapointed when we got our engagement pictures back. We took the time to tell her what we didn't like about the pictures and she basically came back telling us she could not accomodate our 'style' of photography. We weren't asking her to hang upside down from a tree to take a specific shot, all we were asking her to do is to take pictures in a more traditional way, we are not the cheesy picture type of people, we don't run and jump at the beach barefoot. I should also mention that it seems she takes everyone to the same spot in SF for the engagement shoot--I guess she thinks she can't get bad pictures at such a gorgeous place like this one, but wow were we (and she) wrong! The lighting was horrible, in some of the pictures casper the ghost looked tanner than me! Since she could not accomodate our 'style' she offered to set us up with another photographer--which really, why would we go with a photographer she recommends when we know what she thinks a good picture looks like?! We simply asked for our deposit back--and we were willing to pay her for her time, but she came back with "deposit is nonrefundable". I understand a deposit is nonrefundable if you cancel for a reason OTHER than that they are ones that cannot/will not provide a service they said they would provide. Yes she is a lot cheaper than other photographers, but just remember this, you get what you pay for, we forgot this wise saying. My recommendation would be to just pay for a session before you sign any contract or you won't be saying your hard earned money--well at least on your part. If there was a way to give her NO stars I would have as I think 1 star is much too generous for what we got. read more

Opal was the photographer for our wedding on 8/31/13 & she was the BEST! Pictures turned out great & were exactly what we were looking for. She had interesting angles that I would never think to do & they turned out great! Opal made the whole process seamless. She helped in directing many of the staff members to where they needed to be, even though that wasn't in the job description. She was so friendly with all the guests & also just put my husband & I at ease as we were being pulled in multiple different directions. She had an assistant with her, Rachel, who did a great job as well & they both worked well together. If you're looking for someone who really knows her stuff & is very well-organized, on time, & has years of experience which really showed thru on our special day, I would recommend Opal. We will definitely be using her again in the future if we need a photographer. We had a set budget that we needed to stay in & she was great at talking with us about our options & making our budget work with her. She captured all the great moments with my husband & edited the pictures & got them back to me quickly. I know that it usually takes a while to get pictures back from the photographer from what I've heard from other friends' weddings, but she was very considerate of our time & got them back to us with some great edits! 15 months ago I married my best friend and we are happier than ever. I wish I could say the same about the service provided by Opal. We met her at the bridal show at Santa Rosa Country Club. She had a good presentation and seemed very professional and was by far the most reasonably priced. We went with the biggest package she offered and were super excited. The day of our engagement session, which was a part of the package, we were contacted an hour before we were supposed to meet and asked to reschedule. As it was not conducive to our schedule, we ended up not rescheduling. After our wedding it took more than a month to get any of the photos back. What was more disappointing than the wait was the quality of the photos. The few photos we did love we could tell they were taken by Opal's assistant Katie. Katie was amazing and her style of photography is much more of what we had in mind. While working on our album, it would often take weeks if not longer to get a response from Opal via email. After several failed attempts to communicate what my wife and I were expecting as far as the album, we felt defeated. After a year had gone by we decided that her most recent proof of the album would have to suffice. We were already unhappy with the photos and decided that no matter how the album turned out it was never going to be what we had dreamed it would. When we did talk to Opal next, she offered us a partial refund because the album style we wanted originally was no longer available. My wife and I took the opportunity to salvage what we could and make our album ourselves. On a positive note, the photo booth was great! The scrapbook from that was also a great way to get some photos of guests enjoying our day too. We also got quite a few compliments on the photo guestbook that was made using our engagement photos. We were beyond disappointed with not only the wedding day photos themselves, but with the post wedding experience. My wife and I felt like we did not get our money's worth and would not recommend Opal Moments for a wedding. read more

Opal recently photographed our wedding for us on June 30th. We were planning a wedding long-distance while I finished up my Ph.D. and Opal was very responsive over email and worked with us to meet when my fiancé and I were in town. The day of she did an amazing job organizing everyone in our large families for the posed shots even though getting my family together can be like herding cats. She also incorporated my veil for some shots of just the two of us that are my absolute favorites. I was expecting around 300-400 photos after talking to friends who had recently got married and we ended up with almost 700 photos, all of which are photo album quality. We were beyond thrilled with her performance, and the photos that she captured of our wedding day made it possible to remember all the little details from the photos alone. I can't speak highly enough of Opal as our wedding photographer. Researching photographers in the Bay Area is a demoralizing nightmare--everyone is so convinced of their boutique talent and boutique prices that you get very, very little for your money. It's basically impossible for not-rich people to document their special day. Enter the miracle that is Opal: she's totally talented while being friendly, down-to-earth, open to input and willing to work very hard. She put in eight hours straight (along with a second photographer) on the big day, and I feel like her thoroughness and sensitive eye will help us remember *everything*. What a gift! The other photographer options were literally 2 times the expense (or much MUCH more than that) for a quarter of the coverage; I'm sad just thinking about what we would have missed if Opal hadn't been on the job! I also particularly admire how she captured the beauty and love of ALL of our guests throughout the night, in addition to utterly romantic (but not corny!) shots of the bride/groom, wedding party, landscape, and details. Just three weeks after the wedding, we received over 900 exquisite images from Opal and we could fill album after album--each family who attended our wedding could have their own personalized, high-quality collection, and there are no limitations to what or how we can share. I hired Opal to take my husband & I's engagement photos last January. I had done quite a bit of searching online for talented and affordable photographers and she had a lot of positive reviews. I reached out to her about an engagement photo session and a few weeks later we met in beautiful Glen Ellen park (a place she recommended). She knew exactly which types of shots she wanted to get of us but also took the ones of us that I wanted. Our shoot lasted maybe 2 hours and in less than 1 month, we had a CD with over 150 photos! They were absolutely stunning so I wasted no time booking her for my wedding in September. Throughout the months, we kept in touch so she knew the details for my big day. When it finally arrived, she and her assistant were ready to go. They wasted no time getting all of the shots I had asked for in addition to some great impromptu ones. Both my husband and I's family members remarked multiple times how professional and friendly Opal was in directing them for all of the photos. I also had mentioned to her that I wanted to receive a few of the photos early for my thank you cards and she said she'd gladly send them over when I returned from my honeymoon. True to her word, I got those photos, in addition to ALL of my wedding photos 5 weeks after my wedding. All of them were stunning and a couple evoked tears. It did take me quite a while to receive the 3 photo albums that were included in my package (I got them this past week) but I was incredibly happy with how well they turned out. Opal was amazing to work with! I loved that she just did her thing and I didn't have to worry about where she was or what to tell her. She also made my day way less stressful as she just took charge and just told people where she wanted them and when. She was on time and really chill and laid back about the whole event. We got awesome engagement photos and even better wedding photos. I can't express enough how easy she was to work with. She also was very reasonably priced and we got all our photos. Most other photographers will charge you for the photos as an extra charge. We chose to create our own wedding album but that of course would have been extra money but that was the only extra. She expressed to us she doesn't do this for the money but for the joy of it. She loves what she does and she wants her clients to have the best experience.
