I believe brunch is relatively new to Opal, but they are already serving up some of the best tasting brunch food I've had in a while. Their biscuits are as good as home made, their holandaise sauce on their salmon entree was some of the best holandaise I've had, and everything else we tried exceeded our expectations. This place was so mediocre and average....we started with the fennel broth and cured olive mussels, it was simply alright, could not taste fennel in the broth unless you ate an actual piece, the mussels were large and meaty. For my meal I got the scallops over a corn israeli couscous with brown butter. At $24 I was shocked at how small the portion was. There were no highlights or memorable flavors to the food. My dinner mate got the duck confit pasta which was awful, it resembled boiled duck and the pasta was awfully gummy....he had ten bites and told them to take it away...We were shocked to find it wasn't taken off the bill. My other dinner mate had barrel fish over goat cheese polenta and spinach....The spinach was the best part of the meal. The fish was mushy and tasteless. The best part of the night was the wine. Opal is a favorite restaurant for a quick bite at the bar or a sit-down special occasion dinner. The menu has really good options and there are always numerous special features. I do like that the chef at Opal incorporates local fresh seafood and vegetables into each evening's "specials". The charcuterie is very good and there are always a few additions there as well. There are so many fantastic dining choices in the area but we keep coming back to Opal...mostly because of the staff. The servers go the extra mile, they are friendly and easygoing. The bar is a fun place to have a cocktail - the regular bartenders are gems! I hated to read the negative reviews here from NYE... Hopefully anyone that reads them can see through them...it's a bummer when people only use Yelp to gripe and sort of sad to have been there on NYE and witnessed the Yelp review threats and an entire restaurant trying to handle crazy... Give Opal a go...it's truly one of the better places in Mount Pleasant to eat food that rivals what you get downtown. Highly recommended: roasted chicken (I know, I know, but it's amazing), clams in season are superb and served three ways, the market fish is so fresh... Love this new restaurant! The costumer service (always what I look at) and staff are great! I love the ambiance and the bar. Have been once and the food was pretty good. The shrimp bruschetta appetizer was my favorite. A generous amount of garlic that really added so much flavor. I had the grouper and although yummy, sat in a little too much oil for my taste. My husband had the New York Strip and said it was "good", not a great steak. My family has recently been there when they were in town and my mom and sister keep begging me to go back to try the gnocchi. Love this addition to the neighborhood! read more

Opal is a great addition to the Mt. P dining scene. The atmosphere is great and the staff was friendly and responsive. As for the food it is top notch, I find it hard to believe that Chef Owens would let food out of his kitchen that was anything but spot on. We showed up dressed nicely and ready for a special celebration night but without reservations and although the restaurant was half empty the hostess tried sitting us next to the kitchen. We asked for a different booth and even though she moved us down two booths she slammed the napkins and menus on the table and rolled her eyes then walked away in a huff. When the waitress came we were looking out for a bad attitude and of course she had it too. We decided our celebration deserved better service even if we do love their soups. Usually we love Opal but will not put up with millennial attitudes. read more

Another fantastic meal at Opal. We had the standbys of shrimp bruschetta and the clams with sausage and they were awesome as always. My wife had the mozzarella and it was also excellent. My wife had the shrimp with homemade pasta and I had the ricotta gnocchi with duck ragout and both were absolutely incredible. read more

I've been here twice now. They change the menu seasonally. I have to say the newer items aren't quite as exciting as the previous menu in my opinion. I love the bread they serve at the beginning of the meal. It's so warm and crusty. I wish they served it with butter, but they do olive oil. The meat and cheese offerings are really good. I discovered my love for red dragon cheddar( I think it's called) from here. It's a mustard seed cheddar that's so good. They also have a daily good wine selection from the Pacific Northwest, which is my favorite. The service is always attentive. The pasta is excellent. I had a brown butter ravioli last time, but that wasn't on the menu, so I went with the salmon over orzo which was really nice. I thought $28 was a little high for what I got, but it was a generous portion. The gelato I had the first time was really great, most recently I had the pistachio and coconut, which didn't taste the same. I wouldn't get that again. Overall this is a warm, welcoming restaurant, with a few bumps in the menu, but overall I really like going here for the occasional special dinner. read more

We loved it!!!! This is such a hidden gem. We had a gift card and had never really heard of it so we wanted to try it out. It's pretty formal inside and it was just my husband and myself so we sat at the bar. The service was incredible. She let me try several wines before deciding. We could also see the man making the cheese plates. They looked to die for. Everything was freshly sliced and he really took his time to make them perfect. I ordered the filet and my husband got the bone in pork chop, both were heavenly. The glaze on the filet made it so delicious. It was paired with creamy mashed potatoes and green beans. The pork chop came with home made, baked Mac and cheese and Brussels sprouts. We left so full we had to go straight to the couch. We've already told all of our friends it's a wonderful date night spot. We'll be back!! read more

The food was quite salty...too salty. I had the clams, which was one if the items they supposedly do well. I love clams. These were just way too salty. I am just passing through but if i was closer, i would not be back. There are much better flavor enhancers than all the salt. read more

I highly recommend the bar here. Go on a Tuesday night which is half price charcuterie! The service is spot on and the portions of the meat and cheese are always decent. The entree selection is hit or miss, the tagliatelle with mushrooms is consistently amazing but I have to say for the price I just expected a little bit more out of some of the meat dishes. Stick with the amazing apps and the pasta. I would 100% give this place 5 stars for food and service and even for the wine selection. My three star review is a direct reflection of what I would consider an embarrassment to restaurant management everywhere. Two times now I have been in here and the same moronic drunk customer has been causing trouble for your staff. Shame on you for not having your employees backs!! You are leaving them exposed in an awkward situation. Both times your team has performed to the best of their abilities but without having a manager on duty you and handcuffing their posible response. If I had not worked in a restaurant and had a decent idea of what your team was go8jg through; I would never ever come back and I promise that this one drunk a$$-hat has cost you a lot of business, I've personally seen multiple people get up and walk out. Empower your staff or be there yourself!! As soon as that happens this place is a solid 5 star. Went here after we could not get a reservation at three other places we wanted to go. Thank God they were all full!! This meal was absolutely perfect!! I had the special which was a ribeye with marscapone mashed potatoes and asparagus. Words cannot describe how amazing it was!! My husband had the lasagna bolognese that was equally impressive. Other food at my table was the gnocchi ricotta and pappardelle with wild mushrooms and some crazy delicious chicken! We topped off this fabulous meal with quite an impressive lineup of desserts. We went on last Friday night with reservations at 7:30pm. Of course we arrived early but they changed some seating around and sat us right away. We both had a drink to start and I chose well with the Vanilla Old Fashioned. A new twist old drink that was very well done. Even though they have an exceptional variety of appetizers we just wanted entrees. She got the Chorizo Gnocchi and I got the Special fish which was Tilefish on a cauliflower purée with Brussel sprouts. I have never had food brought out to me so quickly that it was actually too hot to eat, wow what service. Speaking of which our server was there when we needed her but not overly there. The best pasta I ever had in my life!! I ordered the pasta with 5 different mushrooms (sorry don't remember the menu name), and it was SOOO DELICIOUS!! Food is locally grown and pasta is homemade. Some of mushrooms were wild mushrooms so they were really aromatic. Highly recommend this place. My dish was a half size and was $17. My husband ordered the butternut squash pasta, which was good, but not amazing like mine. His got a full size and that was $25. read more

Haven't been back in ages, and I mean ages, after a lousy first time. However, I do think they have improved greatly...however, the party of 5 agreed not only the lobster bisque, but all entrees were "too salty" and I don't remember ever saying that about a meal. That being said, the charcuterie was amazing; the salmon, pasta with shrimp and hanger steak proved to be bountiful and lovely paired with pairings. Just can't get over the salt problem. For entrees he had the shrimp w gnocchi w tomato and a wonderfully smoky bacon. The fish of the day was swordfish complimented with a creamy polenta/ cheese/ cilantro and I don't know what else!!! It's been awhile since we explored the food world in Mount pleasant. Based on Yelp reviews, we came to Opal on a Friday night. One thing you need to know about this place is they have "hand made pasta", so if that is your thing, this is your place! We started with a Charcuterie and cheese plate. It was possibly the best C/C plate I've ever had, garnished with arugula, pickled onions and fennel, hazelnuts, cornichons, two types of mustard and an onion relish. We then had the mussels with the confit garlic. Not a bad one in the bunch and the sauce was rich and delicious. We then had the pappardelle with wild mushrooms and the pan seared duck breast. These were both delicious. We had a wonderful evening at Opal and will most definitely return. read more

I was staying at the Homewood for the week right around the corner from Opal and after experiencing their "included" breakfast I was not expecting the dinner to be any better. I did take a peak at their offerings and after seeing the canned green beans, hash and Sutter Home Merlot I continued to walk out the door and into Opal. Since I had purchased some wine from the store, I decided to place a carryout order and take it back to the room. I ordered a 3 piece charcuteri of their choice (minus country ham) and the Wild mushroom and black truffle pasta. Upon arrival, I received a couple of friendly welcomes from a couple of different staff members and waited a few minutes before getting my order. Once I got set up in the room, I was BLOWN away by not only Opal's attention to detail, accuracy of the order and Charcuteri picks (Lamb prosciutto, campo de montabon and parm cheese) but the OUTSTANDING, perfectly seasoned, delicious flavor and just right portion of the pasta. Had dinner here on 10/1, we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. Everyone was super friendly, the service was fantastic and the food was excellent. We had heard that the charcuterie was a must and it was delicious! They surprised us with a champagne toast for our anniversary.
