Wow. Well we seriously can't complain about much. Let's just get a run down of what everyone had and loved. Complimentary bread and olive oil - delicious. Shrimp bisque - delicious. Shrimp bruschetta- delicious. Ricotta gnocchi with shrimp - outstanding. Cavatelli - delicious. Tagliatelle - incredibly good. Pork rib chop - very good. Wine list was good. It's all good. Very good. If I had to have one small complaint it's that they seated 6 adults in a booth. We fit comfortably, but getting meals and drinks passed down was a little bit of a challenge. A different set up would have been nice. Regardless, this is a gem. Highly recommend. read more

Average review for an average experience. I dont like to trash any business. If I could give 3.5 stars I would. Everything was edible and as advertised but I feel you can get better options of everything we ordered, for less , lots of other places. The service was very nice. First time I went to Opal was a few years ago and was not impressed. Went back tonight and was beyond disappointed. The menu selection sounded so delicious, I had a hard time deciding on a dish. Well unfortunately, the food does not live up to the menus descriptive entrees. My husband chose the cavetelli with meatballs and I chose the Tagliatelle with shrimp and zucchini. Both dishes were tasteless and soupy. We are both so nauseous tonight from this meal. On top of the disappointment in food the further insult is paying the price of $27 + for each horrible meal. I rarely write reviews but I just had to express the upset we both felt. My husband and I are foodies and love Langdon's and Wood & Grain, which are their sister restaurants. Opal should not even be related to these other restaurants in any shape or form. Never again! read more

We stopped in for the first time, seeking a cocktail and small meal. We sat at the bar. The bartender was very friendly. The atmosphere was elegant, but not so much that we were uncomfortable at the bar in casual clothes. My husband had oysters, which he said were amazing. If I could give zero stars I would!! Made a reservation for a milestone birthday told them it was a birthday. Took 30 mins to get cocktails horrible service then another 30 mins to get oysters then after waiting another hour to get clam appetizer. We were there 1 hour 45 mins and only got 2 simple appetizers. We Filled up on bread as we didn't eat all day as we knew we were going to have a meal here. We wound up cancelling entrees and leaving the rest of our evening plans fell thru due to the extended time it took to just get cocktails and 2 apps. We Would NEVER go back to this place ruined a birthday and the managers response is I am sorry there is nothing I can do the clam guy got backed up. No one even said there would be a delay or there was an issue. Zero communication. Mind you when we got there and ordered there were only 4 tables with 2 people at a table. 45 mins after we got there a huge party showed up. We still didn't have our clam appetizer that we ordered earlier yet the big party got 2 orders and they ordered after us!!! By far the Worst service the worst handing of a situation by a manager. Also this has been the place I go every year for my birthday this year proved why it was empty when we walked in. Do not waste your time or money here!!!!!! Love that this place has an awesome HH 7 days a week. I frequent here if my husband and I can get out for a datenight on a early Sunday. They open right at 4pm and HH runs until 6pm. Their regular menu is equally amazing also. We got some oysters last night as well as meatballs and the charcuterie platter... you can't beat these prices for HH either. My husband and I shared the Bone in Pork dinner , it was OUTSTANDING! The staff is great. Could not recommend this place more.. it's been consistently great every time I've gone. read more

I don't often write reviews but the food at this restaurant is truly life changing!!! We went twice during a 4 night vacation, it was that good. Spicy Shrimp Bruschetta was amazing! Clams in white wine were some of the best we've ever had. Bolognese was LIFE CHANGING (delicious but somehow light). Wild Mushroom Pappardelle was also very good (rich yet delicate). Walked in for a after dinner drinks. There was no one at the host stand. My mother in law, wife and I walked over to the bar to order drinks. The bartender was great, but unfortunately there was no open seats. Two seats opened up a across from the bar at a high top next to two people and we asked to sit with them. They said yes. At that point, the hostess who had dark curly hair came over and was extremely rude asking if we had reservations. We said we came in for drinks, she said this is for customers with reservations. There was no signs on the table. She made us feel very uncomfortable to the point that we felt we should leave. Very disappointed because we would've stayed for more drinks. Really lovely restaurant with friendly service and amazing food. I had the pork chop and it's seriously one of the best pork chops I've ever had. The accompanying gnocchi was the BUSINESS! The pot de creme was perfection, and my cocktail (something with bourbon and pomegranate and lemon) was a yummy fall treat. I just wish the cocktail straw wasn't so slim. I know I don't have to use it, but I just like my cocktails with a straw. And like I said, the service was top notch, but it was friendly as well. I'd totally come back here. read more

Phenomenal. Exceeded expectations. We made reservations, but there's also a walk up bar. Service was prompt. Great sized menu! Opted to start with cocktails and the best salad. Drink was good, salad was phenomenal as a starter. There was also complimentary fresh bread with olive oil. I got the veal meatball pasta as entree and the lady got the duck breast. Both were absolutely fantastic. I can't say I would have had anything differently. Will likely return, so many things on their menu sounded good and I want to try more! Opal is that place where I could eat an entire meal just from their appetizer selection. Their charcuterie board tastes fabulous with your pick of as much cheese and meat as you'd like. Everything I've had here is delicious and there are combinations of things I'm not so sure I'll like but the way they prepare and combine the different tastes and textures is like an art. The pasta (gluten free options available) is pretty good although the Pappardelle with Wild Mushrooms and Black Truffle left me with a weird aftertaste that I'm not sure if I liked. The entrees are very good as well. I feel that their menu isn't one that I want to keep coming back to every week so I can try something so I'll come here when it's been awhile because the menu is smaller and generally stays the same. It's definitely a place I always think of when we're looking for a fancy night out or some really amazing charcuterie. It can get pricey depending on what and how much you order since some of their portions are smaller. The desserts are also tasty to finish things off. The inside of the restaurant matches the quality of food that is served here - a little upscale in my opinion so I'll come here when I feel like treating myself. Aside from the occasional glares my friend and I got from the crowd in here, we really enjoyed our dinner. We sat at the bar and I wish I could remember the brunette bartender's name because she was pleasant and helpful. The oysters were amazing and fresh! Kudos to whoever's in the kitchen making that sourdough, btw! It's so light and crispy and fluffy and the flavor is outstanding! The meatballs were really good, too. I loved the wild mushroom and black truffle pappardelle! Slow clap. (My camera didn't actually capture the picture). The American wagyu was delicious but my friend and I agreed that we did not like the béarnaise. At all. Maybe we just don't like béarnaise but idk because I love egg yolks and I love tarragon. Anyway, I think the best part of my meal was the 3 Revelry stouts I had--oooweee it's so good and smooth! Also, Pretty Woman playing on the tv was a huge plus! Oh, yeah, and those chocolate martinis are pretty delicious and the s'mores cake with the toffee ice cream or whatever was DECADENT! read more

We had no idea what we were missing until we pushed ourselves to make the trek all the way out and over to almost IOP. TOTALLY WORTH IT!! I wish it wasn't so far away because we would be there way more often than not. Manfriend is a self declared porkchop connoisseur and he loved this one. It wasn't the best in Charleston, but he ranked it up there as being extremely memorable and that's saying something. I ordered the small wild mushroom pappardelle. It was great and I liked that you can order a small/half size. We also started with the tomato soup with grilled shrimp and bacon which was really good. The standout, though, was the mozzarella appetizer. The cocktails and wine list were also good. The bar looked fun and I think that they have some good happy hour specials. This is your neighborhood Italian place which is upscale enough for date night, but will more likely than not, be your go-to fun night out for some good food. Just writing this review is making me run and make a reservation, and I suggest you do the same! read more

There are MANY great restaurants in this area. Opal is one of the best. I've been twice this week because the Shrimp Tagliatelle special was just so unbelievably good I wanted to return with my wife. Last night I got the tilefish special prepared in a tomato broth with olives and it was incredible also. The charcuterie for happy hour is NOT to be missed and the other happy hour options are also excellent (we like the mozzarella and prosciutto). The service is attentive and friendly but not intrusive. Becky and Leigh Ann are excellent servers and took care of both parties very well. The price for the quality and quantity is unbeatable. Opal is among my favorites along with Poogan's Porch, Husk, and a few others, but probably my favorite in Mt Pleasant...maybe all of Charleston. read more

We only moved to the area recently but have been here twice already. The second time was to celebrate a milestone birthday. Each time we started with an appetizer and ended with dessert. The local middle neck clams in white wine were out of this world. I brought the left over broth home to pour over thin spaghetti. The fish specials were great both times. Special shout out to the Pappardelle with wild mushrooms and truffles! The different types of mushrooms with their different textures really enhances the experience. It was very filling but I managed to save room for the Pot de crème was very tasty as was my husband's chocolate almond cake with gelato. I knew the meal would result in at least a three star review ... but, there were two additional actions that needed to occur ... one, at the start; the other, at the end ... to make the evening a total winner. Both easily achieved if the host/hostess/greeter actually read my notes in Open Table: First, my husband's BFF, Mike, joining us for dinner, is confined to a wheelchair, so we needed to be seated at a table that would give him easy access while not restricting the path for servers and other diners. Next, we were celebrating my husband's birthday (and it's been a hard year) and I requested that they acknowledge this event though we would be passing on dessert, It was a beautiful evening ... generally, a good sign. We were greeted warmly and escorted through the bright and beautiful dining room to our perfectly positioned table next to large glass windows. Within minutes, our delightful server introduced herself and explained the specials. (Note: I must apologize for not giving a shout out to our server by name. I can't find the slip where I wrote it down.) First up, (of course) the beverages. My husband opted for a lower-end red, "Gertrude," which came as a decent pour ($9) and he was satisfied enough to order s few glasses through the meal. Mike selected, and was pleased, with his Tanqueray and Tonic. I adored my Pecan Palmer ... Cathead Pecan Vodka infused with pecans, blended with fresh lemon and house brewed iced tea, served tall and icy cool ... perfect. (Strange, I don't recall prices on the menu for cocktails ... oh, well). Joe (my hub) and I both ordered a salad for our starter ... unfortunately, the same one ... which was not necessarily a bad thing ... lol. The slices of juicy local peaches, almonds, and creamy chèvre cheese complimented the large mound of fresh, peppery arugula ... all tossed with a light balsamic-vinaigrette dressing. The portion was huge and well worth the $9.00 price. While Mike was initially disappointed that the menu did not include She-Crab Soup, his fave, his frown sure turned upside down very quickly when the huge (at least 4, maybe 5 pieces), beautifully plated portion of local spicy shrimp bruschetta with garlic and chilis ($12) was placed in front of him. I did get a taste and ... my oh my ... I'm coming back! So many layers of spice and flavors and nice chunks of perfectly cooked shrimp in just my thimble sized taste. After our third basket of hot crusty bread (actually, I think, a large, sliced roll) and soft yummy butter, we decided to pass on more bread to save room for our soon to arrive entrees. Let me me mention here that we certainly noticed, and appreciated, the fact that our server was attentive, but not overly so ... and gave us sufficient time to enjoy our wonderful first course before our entrees arrived. Joe's dinner sized portion of Free Form Lasagna Bolognese ($23) was one of the largest entrees of lasagna I've seen served since we've moved here ... and what made it so spectacular is the ton of beef (the ricotta was just a large 'spoonful' on top). If you love 'noodles and meat' you need look no further than Opal. It was so rich and the portion so huge that Joe had to take home a doggie-bag, something that it very unusual, as Joe can really put it away. I ordered the same dish, but, the 'smaller' portion ($16). I ate the whole thing ... I was delirious. Mike selected the 'small' portion of ricotta gnocchi with local shrimp, grilled corn, sliced cherry tomatoes and pancetta ($17). It was gorgeous and according to Mike, "Delicious." He did not offer me a taste and I knew not to ask; however, I loved the look of this dish and it's on the top of my list (along with the Shrimp Bruschetta) when we return. Once the dishes were cleared away, our wonderful server returned to our table, looked at Joe and said, "I understand we're celebrating your birthday this evening. We don't do cake with a candle but we'd love to bring you some gelato" and told us the flavors available. Joe selected Salted Caramel and Mike requested 3 spoons. In a blink of an eye it seems new restaurants are cropping up all over the area. Opal Restaurant and Bar is one of the newcomers and it deserves its' just due. We went to Opal when they were open just three weeks and I must admit I was impressed. Although I found the dining area to lack warmth and energy in its décor, the entryway is just spectacular. If Chef Patrick Owens and the Opal Dining Group wanted a "wow" factor when you enter, they hit the mark without question. We made reservations and I wondered if we actually needed to. After all, it was a new restaurant in Seaside Farms shopping center and not too widely publicized. Thankfully we had the reservations after all. When we arrived there was already a 45 minute wait for tables and it was only 6:30 p.m.! We were quickly seated and our server immediately approached the table. He was intimately familiar with the menu and told us that he also worked at Langdon's, which is this restaurant's sister concept. A recent local article about Opal stated that the "menu changed daily". I thought this was an aggressive approach to a new restaurant opening. It was the same plan that Sean Brock had with Husk and when we dined there during the first few weeks our entrees took over an hour to hit the table. I hoped that we would not experience the same thing at Opal. As we looked over the menus it appeared I had a different menu that the other three folks at our table. The server quickly explained that I had "last night's menu" and replaced it with the correct one. But get this... The "changing menu" only had one item changed. The fish entrée that was on the menu was switched from flounder to mahi mahi. Hmmm... interesting. We started with 3 appetizers. It's unusual for us to order dinner and appetizers, but things looked very interesting. The Heirloom Tomato, Basil, Purple Onion and Valdeon received rave reviews. The tomatoes were incredibly fresh and tasted as if they were picked that afternoon. The Salad of Local Herbs and Lettuces with Fresh Ricotta and Tomatoes was scooped up in a New York minute - again, a fan favorite. My Spicy Local Shrimp Bruschetta with Chiles and Garlic could have been a meal in of itself. Two very large toasted slices of crispy crusted bread were topped with heavenly, perfectly cooked, spicy shrimp. Reluctantly I shared it. But when I go back to Opal this appetizer is definitely on my repeat list. Our entrees were perfectly timed and served piping hot. Two diners ordered the Sweet Bay Acres Crispy Chicken Breast with Arugula, Heirloom Tomatoes, Fennel, Prosciutto and Vincotto. The gents thought this dish was superb and I had a hard time bartering for a taste. The Seared Diver Scallops, Brunoise of Local Zucchini, Tomato, Corn, Israeli Couscous and Brown Butter was a big win. Usually someone that eats half of her entrée and takes home the other half finished this - hands down! When ordering my entrée of house made Tagliatelle with Pork Sausage, Broccolini and Marjoram our server told me that it was not a "large portion" (pasta prices ranged from $15 - $17), and he was right. My dish was the smallest of the entrees and unfortunately the most disappointing. The pasta was a bit mushy, which I could tolerate, but the dish overall was bland and lacked flavor. I would say though that like Langdon's this restaurant is a bit pricey. We were interested in the Charcuterie & Cheese but one small sampling was $5.00 and it went up to $41.00 when the offer was increased to 12. We saw this delivered to another table and based on the portion sizes it seemed overpriced. I can't speak to the flavor because it looked great, just expensive. Despite my pasta snafu we still managed to leave the restaurant very full and plan to return. I was very impressed that despite only being opened three weeks the restaurant ran like a well-oiled machine. read more

Right in the center of Mount Pleasnt, a fantastic option if you don't want to make the trek downtown or just want to get out of downtown for a night.
