I love luxury resorts on the beach and Opal sands checked off all my expectations. Last month , I decided to book a 5 day, 4 night stay at this resort with my daughter and we did not want to leave. Located on the beach in Clearwater, this resort has amazing views of the cotton candy sunsets , a spa , fine dining restaurants and a great outdoor pool and tiki bar that we visited daily for lunch. I booked a spa appointment for the Grounded Serenity ( about $325 for 120 minutes ) which was a perfect way to end my stay at the resort. The spa is on sight and you can book your services in advance or while staying at the resort. Go online as they have so many options that are fabulous. Valet parking is around $40 a night and there is a daily resort fee added to the stay. Rooms range from about $289-400 a night depending on time of year and suite selected. I've stayed at other resorts and hotel brands in Clearwater and I must say, this was worth every dollar spent. I look forward to more stays at this Resort for sure. read more

3.5/5 Stars - Nice Location, But Service Fell Short I stayed at Opal Sands Resort from Friday through Sunday, and while it was a nice weekend getaway, the experience didn't quite live up to the price or the expectations. Check-In: The check-in experience wasn't the warmest. The front desk associate was polite, but the interaction felt very transactional, more like, "Here's your key, hand me your credit card, have a great day," rather than making us feel welcomed to the resort. Room: Our Gulf View room on the 5th floor overlooking the pool was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The beds were very comfortable, and the room was quiet for the most part. Occasionally, you could hear music from the pool area, but it wasn't disruptive. Pool: The pool itself was great. The water temperature was perfect, and we had no trouble finding chairs both times we used it. The music wasn't really our style, so I brought a small speaker and played my own without any issues. Unfortunately, the pool service left a lot to be desired. Getting a server's attention felt like a mission. I ordered a piña colada, which tasted good--especially whatever they put around the rim, but it barely seemed to contain any alcohol. The same happened with a whiskey and club soda; it tasted almost entirely like club soda with just a splash of whiskey. For the prices they charge, I expected much better. Beach: On our second day, we decided to spend time on the beach. The day before, we had asked how the cabanas and umbrellas worked and were told everything was first come, first served. Based on that information, we assumed they were included with the resort stay. We grabbed towels from the pool, found an open cabana, and about 20 minutes later an employee informed us there was a $50 charge to use it. We had no issue paying the fee, but the lack of communication from the front desk and other staff was frustrating. Better communication would have prevented the confusion. Food: I had breakfast at the restaurant on the first floor. The food was decent but nothing memorable or worth going out of your way for. Overall: For the price, I expected a higher level of service and better communication from the staff. The property itself is beautiful, the rooms are comfortable, and the location is excellent, but the service and food and beverage experience brought the overall rating down. Overall Rating: 3.5/5 Would I stay here again? Probably not. Next time I'd be more interested in trying the hotel next door, The Sol, which looked beautifully decorated and has two pools instead of one. Hopefully the overall guest experience is better. read more

I would advise against trusting this place with your booking if you have children or special requests.  TL,DR: The hotel failed to provide a safe crib for my infant to sleep despite me asking for one 5 separate times, which forced us to leave and they are still trying to charge me for the booking.  (1) I requested a crib in the notes of my initial reservation and received the reply "We'd be happy to place a crib in your room for your little one's first beach trip, and we'll make sure your reservation is noted accordingly." on June 23rd.  (2) I also called the hotel on Monday June 22 to confirm I could have a crib, the guy said yes and I asked for it to be written in my reservation so they don't run out (and since I had not yet received the email reply to my booking) to which he assured me they will not run out.  (3) We checked in on Jun 25 at approx 2:15pm and requested a crib before heading up to the room.  (4) We went to eat at Seaguini, and after walked over to the front desk and again asked for a crib to be sent up since it hasn't arrived yet, this was approx 4:30pm. We went to the beach and got back to the room at 7:30pm expecting the crib to be there, but it was not.  (5) Then to add insult- I called the desk yet again only to be told they are out of cribs and can send a pack-and-play. This is not a safe place for my infant to sleep- the walls are plastic and there is no infant bassinet. I told them this was not acceptable and they told me they would go to their sister property and get a crib to be brought to my room. Over a half hour later a man arrived with a pack-and-play-- absolutely ridiculous, what a joke. I sent him away and again called for the manager. He told me he'd have this corrected right away. By 8:30pm there was nothing brought to us, the baby was far past his bedtime and inconsolable so it was clear we needed to leave and go home for the comfort, health, and safety of our child; thankfully we live in Tampa and were not visiting out of state. The Manager Gergi tried to convince us to stay but could not tell me how long it would be until we could get a crib- saying he'd have to go check the other property and have it sent up and it was already an hour past my last request--which again, was one of FIVE TIMES I previously requested a crib.  Even after all of this- the hotel is trying to charge me! When we left, Gergi told me to call AMEX and request a refund and he'd "approve it all". I was annoyed that I again would have to do work on their behalf (they really couldn't call AMEX? how is this a 4 star hotel) but he also did not mention we would be charged any fee- he apologized over and over saying he understood why we were upset and leaving, which I logically understood meant he'd take care of ANY bill/fees after cancelling with AMEX because of this extreme inconvenience and literally ruining our weekend getaway trip for our anniversary (they knew about my anniversary and congratulated us in the email reply). When I called AMEX, they told me he is insisting on charging me a cancellation fee for the night because it is "hotel policy". The thing about a hotel policy is that it is made up BY THE HOTEL and they can choose not to enforce it- there is no law for this fee. If anything I should request reimbursement for gas and incidentals purchased for this trip, this was my infant's first time to the beach and this memory is now tarnished. What pathetic service on such a simple request. The most basic fundamental thing a hotel is supposed to provide is a clean and safe place for its customers to sleep- they couldn't even do that but I'm supposed to pay? The hotel materially failed to provide the accommodations I relied upon when booking, therefore I opened a case with AMEX to refuse any and all charges and will escalate further if necessary. read more

The wings were very good. They were meaty, crispy and saucy. And the drinks were great. I can't remember what specific drink I had but I had a few of them and they weren't watered down or too much alcohol. The perfect refreshing alcoholic beverage. This is the nicest property on Clearwater Beach. Everything about it was close to perfection. Attentive and efficient staff, handsomely designed room and public spaces, first-rate food. Even the towels, washcloths and pillows were lavish and fluffy. Our 11th floor balcony overlooked the beach. My wife raved about her spa treatment. We had a wonderful stay in every respect. Opal Sands and the adjacent Opal Sol are hands-down the most stunning buildings in the Clearwater Beach skyline. Staying there was a feast for the senses. Opal Sands has the Seaguini restaurant, a spectacular dining room with excellent service where we had our breakfast every morning. One of my favorite places to eat- and I'm a local. Best view of a sunset and the way the hotel is positioned, you don't even see the craziness if typical Clearwater Beach. When you are here, you feel like you're on a cruise with the type of fence that's up at the restaurant. The live music is good- sometimes a bit loud for dinner conversation. The menu is simple but good. We live the fajitas! The tiki bar is cool too. Great place to take visiting friends. read more

This place is pretty nice but a bit over crowded in the pool area and soooo many kids. As a couple it was a bit annoying at times. On one of the days a family next to us decided to bring big water guns to the pool. Their boys were spraying other kids in the face.... I liked that every floor had free snacks and water behind the elevator. The view of our room was nice, overlooking the ocean and the food was good. The Tiki Bar at the Opal Sands was fantastic. The beach views were beautiful and our bartender Kelsey was great. The beachside Bloody Mary's which came with a cheese, shrimp, and spicy olive skewer were the perfect start to the day. Kelsey recommended the Kiwi Sour cocktail and she was not lying it was so good! We recently stayed at the Opal Sands resort in Clearwater Beach and I must say I was mostly impressed. We did look into other top resorts in the area, but ultimately chose Opal Sands as it was recommended to us. Let's start by saying that they have a great location at the end of Clearwater Beach and into the gulf area. Most of the shops and restaurants are easily within walking distance, which was a plus. The hotel is designed where all the rooms having at least a partial view of the water. We did notice the new Opal Sol had just opened, but we preferred to be right in front of the water rather than slightly behind the Sands building. In any case, the hotel is beautiful, and the service was excellent. The day before we arrived, they sent a text asking what time they can expect us. We told them we would be there earlier than the 4pm check in time, and to our pleasure, they had our room ready. We opted for the premium king room with the gulf front view as it had the cozy L sofa area, a 2 person table, and an amazing view of the gulf and beach. The decor was unique and fully gave you the feeling of being in a tropical beach resort. There are two ample sized closets, an in room safe, and a cooler to keep drinks and other food items in; they should have really opted for a mini fridge here instead of the cooler though. The bathroom is spacious, and the shower was pleasant. The balcony was definitely nice with the water front view, but we did have a couple of days of heavy wind and rain that kept us from enjoying it, or anything outside for that matter. Another little perk was that they have a room where they stock water bottles, ice, fruits and trail mix (in the mornings) and cookies (in the afternoon). There's a microwave in there as well, so if you have to warm something up, you can. There are two dining options on the property but we didn't try either as we wanted to experience other places in the area. SeaGuini is the main restaurant you can find in the lobby, and there is the Sand Bar that's near the pool. The property is a valet parking only location, so expect that daily charge added to your bill. Also, when checking out, you might want to check your bill, as we were billed for poolside drinks that we didn't place. The front desk took care of it, but that's something to be aware of. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Especially, if you're making memories with someone special. read more

I recently stayed at Opal Sol Clearwater and booked what was advertised as their most premium 3-bedroom suite. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations and did not match how the room was represented. The "3-bedroom suite" was not a true single unit, but rather two connecting rooms. There was no practical way to keep doors open, which made it feel completely disconnected and not at all like a cohesive suite. This significantly impacted our stay and is not what most guests would expect when booking a premium multi-bedroom accomodation. One of the main reasons we chose this room was the advertised hot tub on the porch - however, there was no hot tub upon arrival. While management acknowledged the error and offered to move us, we had already unpacked and settled in, making relocation very inconvenient. The outdoor space was also disappointing. The "wrap-around porch" was awkward in layout and essentially unusable, with only one small chair despite the suite being advertised for up to 10 guests. We were told no additional furniture was available, which made the space impossible for our group to enjoy. Housekeeping was another frustration. Because the suite was actually two separate rooms, it was serviced by two different crews at different times. requiring us to leave twice daily rather than just rearrange for the usual expected once daily routine. This was disruptive and unreasonable for what is marketed as a single unit. Overall, the accommodations did not align with the premium pricing or the luxury expectations. The experience felt misrepresented in several key ways. I hope the property improves transparency and guest experience moving forward, but based on our stay, I would not book this room again. read more

It wasn't till after I checked in that I found out the beach access is closed as well. The tiki bar has been blown away. Why can't hotels be transparent and let you know that the hotel is not 100% open based on the website. So moving on, I come downstairs to the pool and as I'm sitting in the pool next to me is someone's lunch or what's left of it. I brought this to the attention of management. They appeared as if no big deal and sent someone over to go clean it up who obviously was beneath them. . Turn off guys! Approximately 2:46 in the morning, someone's dog kept barking in intervals for about two hours. I called downstairs. Phone rang 10 times no answer. The food at the pool was about a five out of a 10 the reason being was the chicken wings were not fully cooked and the hamburger ordered medium came out raw. I had dinner and the restaurant and ordered chicken piccata. It had a very bland cafeteria taste to it as if most of it was out of a jar. I don't believe I would return to the hotel however it's too bad because the view is really nice, but I think what they're chasing here is your money and I believe it to be a major tourist trap with some property view to bring you in. This is a challenging review to give. Let me start with the positives The hotel is beautiful. The rooms are beautifully decorated with one of the most comfortable mattresses I've been on. We had a king room that had extra space and a comfy couch to sit on. We were on the top 15th floor facing the Gulf. There was a small refrigerator for water bottles and a Nespresso machine. Would have much preferred a regular coffee machine or a Keurig machine. You could get regular coffee or coffee drinks down in the lobby for a charge. So the room was a 10/10. Each floor has a pantry that is stocked with refrigerated water bottles that are free to take. In the morning there is also fruit and small bags of Chex mix cereal and granola bars. In the afternoon there are sugar and chocolate chip cookies. Housekeeping, Valets and front desk personnel were all very nice and helpful. The main restaurant Seaquini was outstanding and I reviewed it separately. My wife used the spa services and was very pleased We did go to the more casual restaurant outside but our meal was not very good. The server was very nice and service was efficient. The place was chaotic as there were tons of people there. Sitting outside here you had a front row seat of the sunset. The negatives: We were there the week leading up to Easter. A lot of families with small children. Lots of noise. By 9am there were no seats poolside to sit in. This is one of those weeks where people were going down at 8 am and putting their stuff down to get seats. Since it was just my wife and I , we weren't about to do that plus it was too chaotic and noisy for us. So we stayed on our balcony but still heard all the screaming even though we were on the 15th floor. Thought about going to the beach that was right next to the hotel however that was more crowded than the hotel. Come to find out it was a public beach so everyone from the surrounding areas was there. That definitely was omitted in the description. So I know we traveled the week of Easter and that was my fault and I won't do that again. It was spontaneous decision made exactly one week before we arrived because we had a great experience at the Opal resort in Jupiter a month earlier. I know the hotel can't be responsible for kids behaviors or lack of parenting. We had to deal with a screaming kid running up and down the hallway every morning at 730. That repeated itself in the evening. So you get charged a resort fee every day but we did not get to enjoy any of the outdoor resort. Interesting that every couple that we met at the bar inside had the same complaint This is a beautiful resort, just don't go around school vacations unless of course you're going with your own small kids. Came here on a Saturday night for dinner. The wait for 3 was 45-50 minutes at peak time, but waiting was quite enjoyable as there are amazing views of the sunset as it's right on the beach. The crowd did not seem too rowdy to not want to dine there, and we had time to review the menu. Adequate lighting is provided as it gets darker in the evening, and the menu is not extensive but a fair amount of options. The grouper sandwich was excellent. The frozen fruity drinks were ok. The service was never outright rude, but felt a bit rushed. This place is a must visit for the ambiance, but for the price the drinks could be a little better. If they could improve on this it could easily be a five star venue. Get there early enough and enjoy the sunset! read more

The ambiance is fantastic-- open seating with great views, and the live music really adds to the experience. The food was excellent--generous portions and full of flavor. I had the mahi mahi fish dip, and wings - delicious and fresh. We ordered the dessert trio, but unfortunately, we had to send it back. The three small pastries, priced at $12, were stale and too hard to enjoy. However, the service was great and he was kind to take it off from the bill. Wife's surprise birthday celebration getaway! Absolutely everything was a 10/10. Concierge (Lucas), valets, front desk, rooms, housekeeping, restaurants, waitstaff, pool attendants, spa. The word "no" doesn't exist at this resort. Each fine detail that Lucas helped me with in making my wife's birthday weekend a huge hit was addressed. Wine, balloons, a birthday cake, all in our room at different times, and staff simply saying "happy birthday" to my wife when they saw her were all part of the weekend. Sure, I helped. The pool bar staff were neglecting paying customers and pretending they are working or talking to each other. This was our first time staying at this resort. It is only 5-6 years old and you can certainly tell. Modern design, bright colors inside, well kept exterior. We are "locals" in a sense that we live in central Florida. We made spring break plans with another couple and their son. Our plans were made in advance but were somewhat impulsive....we really didn't know what to expect. We had a 2 bedroom suite on the 11th floor with a great view of the beach looking north but also in a position to watch the sunset. I felt the price was reasonable and for the value, it would be tough to top Opal Sands. From the Sand Bar bartenders Nick and Chase (to name a few) to the great service provided by the bellhops and valet team, to the housekeeping team.....Opal Sands made me feel like an old friend reuniting! The rooms are nicely furnished, modern colors and design, nice beds, high thread count sheets, and of course, all the other amenities you would expect from a higher end resort. The restaurant had some great options as well! We did go out to local restaurants mostly but the 3-4 meals we had on site were great!! Especially if you love grouper like I do! The breakfast is also outstanding. $23 for an adult buffet which includes customized omelette, pancakes, ect. I really loved my week long stay here and can't wait to come back. read more

The food was solid. Service was awful. After our order was taken the waitress(Mackenzie) was non existent, we had finished app plates and empty drink glasses on the table for a solid 30 minutes. Our meal was sent by another waiter to drop off the food without napkins. I had to track down Mackenzie at the bar and ask for napkins. She said I will bring them right over. I had the pleasure of finding the Sandbar while on a work trip and I couldn't have been happier. The view was absolutely stunning and the food was delicious. I had the fish tacos (grilled) and the fish was flavorful and juicy. This is probably one of the best fish tacos I have had, and with the size of them you definitely get your moneys worth! The side Caesar salad was excellent (an up charge) and the meal worked together nicely. I took the PB&C to go because I was full and when I tried it later that night, it was to die for. The richness of the chocolate was complimented quite nicely by the fluffiness of the peanut butter mousse. The service was impeccable. I had several people check on me multiple times to make sure my food was good and I didn't need anything. I couldn't have asked for more attentive staff! Wait time was very minimal. I'm thoroughly impressed with the Opal Sands Resort (tbh this place treats me better than I treat myself lmao). My sister and I were here to celebrate her wedding weekend and the suite had such ample space - perfect for getting ready! The makeup artist and hair stylist was able to setup their stations while bridesmaids got ready / took pictures and whatnot. Each floor level has a pantry for guests to grab some water, ice in portioned bags, or a fruit or granola bar which was helpful. There's complimentary tea and coffee in each room with a nifty Keurig machine. I was also surprised how the suite contained a cooktop flat stove, full size fridge, silverware, ceramic plates, and some cooking utensils like pots and pans, colander, cutting board, spatula, etc. for those that are interested in making their own meals. We were so impressed with the swift bellhop service (I was thinking I would be taking the luggage up myself lol). This is the first time I felt a resort fee was justified over how well we were taken care of. At first I was apprehensive about valet (again, I'm so used to doing things myself) but the crew was mega quick on their feet. Also pro-tip: you don't have to wait a hour to get your car when you call guest services you're ready to pick up your vehicle. There's certain hotspot time frames like checkout and check in where you'll get a delay in getting your vehicle so being mindful of that saves time when you plan ahead. The pool area and jacuzzi has gorgeous views of the ocean and I thought it was neat how you can pay for your drinks via room number (again, I need to go out more haha). There is beach access as well plus outdoor showers to rinse off any sand. For dinner, my sister and I checked out the Sea-guini restaurant and enjoyed their pasta choices immensely. The staff was super attentive and knowledgeable of the options for the menu in case you had any dietary restrictions. Everyone we talked to or greeted wanted to be there - the one gentleman that I recall from guest services was named Clark and honestly made us feel so welcome. If I were to do it all over again, I would. I wish we could of stayed longer! The sunsets and plush robes were my favorite. Nine years ago, we came to this paradise to celebrate our 23rd anniversary, and my husband and I were delighted by the service, amenities, and incredible beauty. We compared it to being on a cruise. Every room has an ocean view. Since then, we've come almost every year to celebrate our love. Today, we're celebrating our 32nd anniversary and where are we? At one of the most spectacular resorts in Florida. Many blessings and thank you for making us feel special. We were welcomed with champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries.
