It wasn't till after I checked in that I found out the beach access is closed as well. The tiki bar has been blown away. Why can't hotels be transparent and let you know that the hotel is not 100% open based on the website. So moving on, I come downstairs to the pool and as I'm sitting in the pool next to me is someone's lunch or what's left of it. I brought this to the attention of management. They appeared as if no big deal and sent someone over to go clean it up who obviously was beneath them. . Turn off guys! Approximately 2:46 in the morning, someone's dog kept barking in intervals for about two hours. I called downstairs. Phone rang 10 times no answer. The food at the pool was about a five out of a 10 the reason being was the chicken wings were not fully cooked and the hamburger ordered medium came out raw. I had dinner and the restaurant and ordered chicken piccata. It had a very bland cafeteria taste to it as if most of it was out of a jar. I don't believe I would return to the hotel however it's too bad because the view is really nice, but I think what they're chasing here is your money and I believe it to be a major tourist trap with some property view to bring you in. The three small pastries, priced at $12, were stale and too hard to enjoy. However, the service was great and he was kind to take it off from the bill. This is a challenging review to give. Let me start with the positives The hotel is beautiful. The rooms are beautifully decorated with one of the most comfortable mattresses I've been on. We had a king room that had extra space and a comfy couch to sit on. We were on the top 15th floor facing the Gulf. There was a small refrigerator for water bottles and a Nespresso machine. Would have much preferred a regular coffee machine or a Keurig machine. You could get regular coffee or coffee drinks down in the lobby for a charge. So the room was a 10/10. Each floor has a pantry that is stocked with refrigerated water bottles that are free to take. In the morning there is also fruit and small bags of Chex mix cereal and granola bars. In the afternoon there are sugar and chocolate chip cookies. Housekeeping, Valets and front desk personnel were all very nice and helpful. The main restaurant Seaquini was outstanding and I reviewed it separately. My wife used the spa services and was very pleased We did go to the more casual restaurant outside but our meal was not very good. The server was very nice and service was efficient. The place was chaotic as there were tons of people there. Sitting outside here you had a front row seat of the sunset. The negatives: We were there the week leading up to Easter. A lot of families with small children. Lots of noise. By 9am there were no seats poolside to sit in. This is one of those weeks where people were going down at 8 am and putting their stuff down to get seats. Since it was just my wife and I , we weren't about to do that plus it was too chaotic and noisy for us. So we stayed on our balcony but still heard all the screaming even though we were on the 15th floor. Thought about going to the beach that was right next to the hotel however that was more crowded than the hotel. Come to find out it was a public beach so everyone from the surrounding areas was there. That definitely was omitted in the description. So I know we traveled the week of Easter and that was my fault and I won't do that again. It was spontaneous decision made exactly one week before we arrived because we had a great experience at the Opal resort in Jupiter a month earlier. I know the hotel can't be responsible for kids behaviors or lack of parenting. We had to deal with a screaming kid running up and down the hallway every morning at 730. That repeated itself in the evening. So you get charged a resort fee every day but we did not get to enjoy any of the outdoor resort. Interesting that every couple that we met at the bar inside had the same complaint This is a beautiful resort, just don't go around school vacations unless of course you're going with your own small kids. Came here on a Saturday night for dinner. The wait for 3 was 45-50 minutes at peak time, but waiting was quite enjoyable as there are amazing views of the sunset as it's right on the beach. The crowd did not seem too rowdy to not want to dine there, and we had time to review the menu. Adequate lighting is provided as it gets darker in the evening, and the menu is not extensive but a fair amount of options. The grouper sandwich was excellent. The frozen fruity drinks were ok. The service was never outright rude, but felt a bit rushed. This place is a must visit for the ambiance, but for the price the drinks could be a little better. This was our first time staying at this resort. It is only 5-6 years old and you can certainly tell. Modern design, bright colors inside, well kept exterior. We are "locals" in a sense that we live in central Florida. We made spring break plans with another couple and their son. Our plans were made in advance but were somewhat impulsive....we really didn't know what to expect. We had a 2 bedroom suite on the 11th floor with a great view of the beach looking north but also in a position to watch the sunset. I felt the price was reasonable and for the value, it would be tough to top Opal Sands. From the Sand Bar bartenders Nick and Chase (to name a few) to the great service provided by the bellhops and valet team, to the housekeeping team.....Opal Sands made me feel like an old friend reuniting! The rooms are nicely furnished, modern colors and design, nice beds, high thread count sheets, and of course, all the other amenities you would expect from a higher end resort. The restaurant had some great options as well! We did go out to local restaurants mostly but the 3-4 meals we had on site were great!! Especially if you love grouper like I do! The breakfast is also outstanding. $23 for an adult buffet which includes customized omelette, pancakes, ect. I really loved my week long stay here and can't wait to come back. read more

I had the pleasure of finding the Sandbar while on a work trip and I couldn't have been happier. The view was absolutely stunning and the food was delicious. I had the fish tacos (grilled) and the fish was flavorful and juicy. This is probably one of the best fish tacos I have had, and with the size of them you definitely get your moneys worth! The side Caesar salad was excellent (an up charge) and the meal worked together nicely. I took the PB&C to go because I was full and when I tried it later that night, it was to die for. The richness of the chocolate was complimented quite nicely by the fluffiness of the peanut butter mousse. The service was impeccable. I had several people check on me multiple times to make sure my food was good and I didn't need anything. I couldn't have asked for more attentive staff! Wait time was very minimal. I'm thoroughly impressed with the Opal Sands Resort (tbh this place treats me better than I treat myself lmao). My sister and I were here to celebrate her wedding weekend and the suite had such ample space - perfect for getting ready! The makeup artist and hair stylist was able to setup their stations while bridesmaids got ready / took pictures and whatnot. Each floor level has a pantry for guests to grab some water, ice in portioned bags, or a fruit or granola bar which was helpful. There's complimentary tea and coffee in each room with a nifty Keurig machine. I was also surprised how the suite contained a cooktop flat stove, full size fridge, silverware, ceramic plates, and some cooking utensils like pots and pans, colander, cutting board, spatula, etc. for those that are interested in making their own meals. We were so impressed with the swift bellhop service (I was thinking I would be taking the luggage up myself lol). This is the first time I felt a resort fee was justified over how well we were taken care of. At first I was apprehensive about valet (again, I'm so used to doing things myself) but the crew was mega quick on their feet. Also pro-tip: you don't have to wait a hour to get your car when you call guest services you're ready to pick up your vehicle. There's certain hotspot time frames like checkout and check in where you'll get a delay in getting your vehicle so being mindful of that saves time when you plan ahead. The pool area and jacuzzi has gorgeous views of the ocean and I thought it was neat how you can pay for your drinks via room number (again, I need to go out more haha). There is beach access as well plus outdoor showers to rinse off any sand. For dinner, my sister and I checked out the Sea-guini restaurant and enjoyed their pasta choices immensely. The staff was super attentive and knowledgeable of the options for the menu in case you had any dietary restrictions. Everyone we talked to or greeted wanted to be there - the one gentleman that I recall from guest services was named Clark and honestly made us feel so welcome. If I were to do it all over again, I would. I wish we could of stayed longer! The sunsets and plush robes were my favorite. We drove from the east coast of FL to stay at the Ocean Sands Resort to enjoy the "gulf front" sunsets. We got the suite for almost twice the price of the regular bc we wanted extra room for our kids. To our disappointment, we learned that their "gulf front" view is actually just a gulf view. The rooms are northeast facing. To add insult to injury, they're doing construction directly across the street. We literally have to scream to be heard when talking to each other outside. (As a side note, We requested an upper floor at the time of booking as well as the day before arrival and they confirmed our request. Needless to say, we are on the 6th floor.) That said, the suites and balconies are nice and spacious, as advertised. The food is good and the pool area is nice. If you want to stay at the beach and not see the ocean or hear the waves from your room, definitely pay extra for the suite at this resort! We have complained several times and although the staff is apologetic, not one person offered to do anything except downgrade us. It's baffling to me they're allowed to lie about the views of their rooms - my confirmation for this suite clearly describes it as being gulf front. Had we known that the hotel doesn't have a gulf front suite we would've gone elsewhere. Had we known we'd be sitting in front of a construction site all day we especially would've chosen a different location. read more

I left my pillow behind - they somehow were able to locate it and express mailed it back (minus pillowcase and with a $20 fee - which I happily paid). Each room view faces the ocean - we stayed on the 15th floor and woke each morning to check out the patio and waves. The rooms themselves are spacious, clean, and modern. The bed was very comfortable. My only suggestion is to let guests know the AC shuts off when the patio door opens. Hotel/resort looks really pretty but the room we were in was terrible. We stayed in room 613, which had an amazing view! But the room was DIRTY. We went for my birthday weekend, husband surprised me so I did not want to complain, and make his efforts seem worthless. There was stains on our bed cover, hair all over the bathroom, mold in the bathroom, the toilet paper holder kept fall off on one side. We also had neighbors smoking marijuana the entire time on the porch. It was hard to enjoy the beautiful view with that going on. Also major issue with management for allowing kids to be unsupervised and to play up and down the elevator. Multiple times we got stuck in the elevator due to kids playing and pushing all the buttons. Just overall not great. We also did room service one night due to the weather, I ordered a Cesar salad, lobster stack and charcuterie board. The charcuterie board was very odd, the meat and cheese had no flavor and the lobster stack was lack luster with no seasoning. Literally was mashed avocado on lobster. Needless to say for the 1000$ we paid for 2 nights, I will not return. read more

For such a lovely hotel, there were some super basic problems. - do not let the website fool you. When selecting rooms, there is a drop down to select your desired features, which then narrows down your rooms. There is one labeled "hot tub." No rooms have hot tubs, even though all the suites pop up once it is selected. - We paid for a suite, with this guaranteed amazing view and partial wrap-around balcony. Half of our view was construction - big, loud, extremely unpleasant construction. Absolute waste of money. Ironically paying for a cheaper room would have given us a much more superior room. One without dozens of construction workers leering at us on pur balcony. - There are no hours listed for anything. This is incredibly minor, because of course I can just track someone down to ask, but it became extraordinarily annoying over the course of the vacation. Why not just post pool hours or when the beach cabanas get set up by? For the extreme amount of money we spent on what we expected to be an amazing room, we could not have been more disappointed. We arrived last night about 45 minutes before closing which happened by mistake as we had just arrived at the hotel and were not aware of the hours. Jacqueline W. was our server and she was so friendly and happy to be at work, even waiting on us so close to closing. Our intention was only to order a drink and a dessert, but my partner also ordered a burger and fries. When my White Sangria came out, it was delicious but mostly made of ice. Jacqueline recognized it and immediately brought me another one free of charge. The food came out pretty fast, and Jacqueline didn't think the fries were crispy enough and offered to have the kitchen make us more, but we refused since we chose to show up late and realized the kitchen was probably closing down. In today's day, it's difficult to find good service anymore, and I hope that it's still rewarded when someone goes above and beyond. read more

We drove by at first and my kids said, "wow, we wish we were staying there!" I said, "I wish too". We drove past again b/c we missed the entrance the first time and they were like, "whattttt Mommy?!" YUP, fooled you kids. Everything was perfect about this resort. From the valet, the gorgeous lobby, the View--everything! It is worth every single dollar and I would turn it into an annual trip if I could! I love how convenient Sea Guini is on the same floor as check-in. We also ordered room service from here the food was surprisingly, amazingly, delicious. Expensive, but delicious. I wouldn't order room service again though....we'd just go downstairs next time but the kids wanted to experience it. The blue décor is what caught my eyes when I first saw it online. Paid over $600 a night for a room that was supposed to be overlooking the Gulf but instead the majority of our view was of a parking lot and an active construction site. Because I am an opal collection member, I was given the option for some pre room request. I asked for a high floor, a quiet room, extra towels, and some hangers. I had also pre ordered a charcuterie plate. Prior to my arrival, all of my requests were reflected as approved. When I checked in, they were unaware of any of my pre arrival requests and placed me on the 3rd floor of a high rise building. I requested to be moved to the high level floor which ended up being on the 8th floor but upon entering my room I saw not only that the view was not primarily of the Gulf but of a parking lot and an active construction site. At this point we were just exhausted and decided to stay in the room but it took them over an hour to bring our luggage to the room after repeated calls. It did not end there. When I went up to my room I saw that they had placed an over $7000 authorization on my credit card!! The room had been paid in full prior to arrival and they were only supposed to put an authorization on my card to cover any incidentals. When I went down to the front desk to speak to the manager she barely apologized and told me that it was just a pending authorization. I explained to her that even a pending authorization limits your availability of your credit line on a card. So basically, there was a hold of over $7000 on my card. What if that had been the only credit card I had brought on my trip with me ? Again, the manager was rude and unapologetic. Further, there is NO private beach associated with the resort as advertised. Basically, you share the public beach. As a frequent Opal Collection guest at the Key West and Jensen Beach resorts, our stay here was anything but relaxing. We will not be returning as we have choices. read more

This place was the PERFECT getaway for my husband's birthday. It was a much needed escape from Miami for the weekend. Overall, we loved the hotel, the location, the view. However, the COVID precautions are lacking here which is the only reason it did not get a 5 star rating. My husband and I stayed here at the end of May 2020. The healthcare worker discount was an additional bonus and much appreciated. Valet parking was simple but an additional cost. The hotel itself is beautiful! Our room was very spacious, but the best part was definitely the view from our balcony (where we spent a majority of our time)! Soo many dolphins (and a couple manatees) were sighted from our balcony! We were also able to watch the most gorgeous sunsets. The water is absolutely beautiful. It also overlooks Clearwater Beach (which was WAY too crowded for our liking, so we drove to Madeira Beach for a day which was much more comfortable for us and less crowded). The restaurant had a limited menu, as do most places currently. We were disappointed that our server was not wearing her mask properly, it was on her chin for the majority of the time (a pet peeve of mine). The food itself was good (portions were a generous size) and we enjoyed our cocktails. They did a free dessert for me husband's birthday which was a nice touch. As far as COVID regulations, it was very lackluster. Elevators had signs for only so many people allowed in at a time and routine cleanings. But staff were not all properly wearing masks. There was absolutely no social distancing enforced at the pools, which is why we avoided it. The pool was overcrowded, there were large groups of people gathered up around the pool, and lounge chairs were not very spaced apart. I would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a place to relax in Clearwater, but maybe after COVID due to the lack of precautions.
