    Krautsalat mit Speck
    Elyse B.

We ducked into this charming restaurant serendipitously on Saturday afternoon; peckish and without specific plans, I opened Yelp on my phone and searched "nearby"; it turned out we were standing on Opatija's doorstep. I'd never had Croatian food, so I let my husband lead me toward the Cevapcici - a platter of sort of "skinless sausages" with rice, raw onions, and two sauces. It was delicious and the portions were truly huge for the price. We shared a small plate of Krautsalat mit Speck as a starter, and my husband had a huge platter of various grilled meets - the "Half & Half". Our server sometimes took awhile to come around, but only because he was busy with the large room - and we were in no rush. He suggested substitutions while we ordered, which is always a nice touch: with no change in price we could select from a few different options. We waddled away from Opatija several pounds heavier, and likely to return; I also forgot my gloves at our booth & they were waiting for me when we stopped by a few hours later... not a bad way to end a tasty and satisfying meal!

I was not impressed with this restaurant, but let's start with the good: The location is easy to walk to from some main touristy areas. The restaurant looks nice and they are able to accommodate large groups. Now the not so good: their salad and pizza (which is what I had for dinner). The pizza was flavorless. Like, impressively so. My friend and I even tried adding salt (and I am really sensitive to salt) and Parmesan cheese. Somehow their Parmesan cheese was also flavorless. Ugh! Disappointing.

We were here for lunch after visiting the city center in Munich. It's medium-sized centrally-located restaurant offering German and Italian dishes. Like anywhere else in Munich, they offer a great variety of beers and delicious sausages. I tried the mixed sausages dish, my fiend tried the steak. Both tasted great and the price was very reasonable.

They have indoor and outdoor seating and great service no matter where you sit. The outdoor seating was far enough away from the walking thoroughfare, so that you could enjoy the people watching without having them pass right next to you. The food was very good, much better than I expected. In fact, we liked it so much we went back for a second visit, which was a different meal choice and another very good experience. In total we ordered the white asparagus, the side salad, meatloaf with potato salad, rosemary potatoes and a prosciutto pizza. The meatloaf was really a loaf of Ham style meat. They served it with some mustard and potato salad. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. The prosciutto pizza was very good with a good amount of cheese. The side salad had just about every color of the rainbow and was very good. A salad like this is such a difficult thing to find when you are traveling, I definitely enjoyed some greens with my meal. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We ordered a pretzel and it was pretty good, nothing special and I order a 0.5 liter Helles. Great beer of course and the server was super nice. Worth coming in for a beer right before heading in for the night at La Meridian next door. A pretty nice hotel.

We would definitely come back again and would highly recommend this place. Everything from the drinks, bread with special butters, soups, truffle pasta, chicken with a pastry top version of a chx pot pie and some other entrees were all terrific. The apple dessert did not disappoint either - yum ( need to order ahead to give it 25 mins or so ) First rate -don't miss this gem of a restaurant! . Thx you for a wonderful dinner! Enjoy

The soup was refreshing and I really enjoyed it. The bread was good as well. One of the spreads was obazda dip which I love. I thought they made it ok. We started with the veal ravioli. They were tender and tasted pretty good. I had the restaurant special which was basically a chicken pot pie. I thought it was good but I've had better. I thought the chicken was over cooked and the capers inside was a bit off putting to me because there were so many and made the whole dish too sour for me. It was a bit off putting. My friend had the fillet with white asparagus and potatoes and hollandaise sauce. It was basic but I preferred her dish. The dessert had strawberry and tarragon I believe. It was well balanced, not too sweet, and I liked the herbs with the dessert. They also had a nice drink menu and a good variety of wines. They did not let us try the wine before pouring it which I expected since this is a nice place. Overall thought the service was decent but not great.

So I felt that for it's purpose, being an Italian restaurant, in the heart of Munich, during Oktoberfest, L'Osteria was hitting! I saw a line when we first got there which made me nervous because we didn't have any reservations. So I quickly made an online reservation on the spot. It didn't end up being needed because the host sat us where we preferred, at a table just inside the establishment but close enough to the outdoor seating to get a little bit of both worlds. We had a nice view of the Famtain [Hotel] building as well as Karlsplatz Square. So it seemed that a 10 min.+ wait was worth it. We immediately got drinks, specifically the Passionfruit Aperal Spritz which was so good. It's the perfect drink after a long day of walking in the heat. We also ordered a pizza, split with Spicy Pepperoni and Chicken Bacon Ranch. I wonder if we were type-cast as Americans when the Chicken Bacon Ranch part was suggested to us. Don't tell them that I told you it was good! We also had the most delicately sliced Carpaccio with just the right amount of parmesan on top. I loved all of it! So listen, for the bad reviews, I don't know what happened. I think the place is solid. You might have to wait a few minutes to be seated but the turnover should be quick enough for you to get a nice spot. If you're visiting the city it's in a nice central location. Keep your expectations reasonable and you should have a great time!

Pasta was ok with a good sized portiin of cheese. Lasagna was piping hot but nothing fancy or unique. Pizzas here are popular, big but thin crust and minimal toppings.
