I'm adding an update since it's been 4 years since my last review of this park, but please also see my 2 earlier reviews. They have completely rebuilt the fire tower adding an accessible ramp. While we are able to climb stairs, we enjoyed the ramp a great deal. I'm not a huge fan of open stairs and found this wide ramp that is intended for both wheelchair users and walkers to be a very pleasant way to reach the viewing platform and return to ground level. The view from the top is amazing on a clear day. We also walked part of the sunset bike trail as an out and back which was lovely. We started at the beach, headed toward the lighthouse and continued on to the bluffs/cliffs before turning around. It was about 6 miles round trip and had lots of wildflowers and beaches along the way. This is a great trail for anyone who doesn't want to navigate a lot of tree roots or rocks. Other updates: The lighthouse is being refurbished and is scheduled to reopen later in June 2026. There are now food trucks near the beach if you don't feel like bringing a picnic lunch! read more

Wow, do you want a hike and/or a view? Peninsula State Park won't disappoint you. Eagle Tower is truly extraordinary; the wood tower itself is beautiful and unique but the view is absolutely gorgeous. They've build a very long, safe ramp for easier access for those who can't /don't want to go up the steep steps. You definitely want to wear decent walking shoes or hiking boots depending on what you're planning on doing. A lot of the hiking is labeled very appropriately. What's marked as "Very Difficult" is VERY DIFFICULT! A lot of steep ups and downs with many tall, exposed roots. Lovely rock formations, brilliant nature and areas to creep off onto the rocky shore. Definitely trust the signs and wear the right shoes. Absolutely worth the work! read more

I visited during the early spring so the park was a little dull due to a drab day and not much green in yet but the park was great to walk through and see the water. The new ADA accessible walkway was large and tall. In the fall I'd imagine it's a beautiful walk with the colors. The park was clean and bathrooms were available. The parking by the "hot spots" are a little small so we had to wait for some people to leave in order to park and leave the car. However it was worth the wait! read more

Peninsula State Park is beautiful. No matter what time of year you go, it's always beautiful. So many different hiking trails you can go on with different levels of difficulty. Ranging from very easy to moderately difficult. We walked up the new ramp to the watchtower. It's so lovely that they have accommodated all types of people to be able to see the view from the tower without having to climb the stairs. Amazing for handicapped people, older people, or any people with mobility issues. The views are spectacular. Do not miss this when you go to Peninsula State Park. read more

Gorgeous WI state park right outside of Fish Creek. I not only went there once on my trip to Door County but 3x's (mostly for sunsets). I enjoyed making the huge loop around the park that sits up against the coastline. Lots of cute spots to sit and enjoy the view, trails, campsites and the huge overlook tower. They even have a lighthouse but that area is under construction so if you go outside of 11-3 - there's not much to check out. read more

I love any excuse to go to Door County. We've gone there for day trips, weekends at bed and breakfasts, and now for a camp weekend at Peninsula State Park. First of all, the park itself is stunning with gorgeous views everywhere you look. We saw all kinds of wildlife, including pelicans and deer. We also saw one of the most gorgeous sunsets that we've ever seen over the lake. Truly, it was stunning. The campground itself is great. We had our pop up and the area we were in the sites were a bit on the smaller side but still plenty of room to set up comfortably. They allow dogs and have plumbed bathrooms with showers. We had our dog with us and we had plenty of room to have her tethered at the site. The campgrounds inside the park are all a bit different. There's area in deciduous woods (which is where we stayed), areas in pine woods, and areas that are less shaded and more surrounded by shrubbery. They have many sites that offer electricity (though we didn't have one!). It's a fairly large park so plenty of space for whatever outdoor activities you enjoy. There are areas to put in your kayak, plenty of space to wander on a bike, and areas for swimming as well. We so enjoyed our stay here and look forward to going back again! Get to it! read more

I'll admit, I wasn't sure what to expect driving in since there's a golf course right before the state park. I'm glad I decided to continue on, or else I would have missed this gem! Parking is $13 a day unless you have a pass. I parked right next to Eagle Tower, which is a 60 ft tall wooden tower with an ADA ramp or multiple flights stairs to get to the top. The views from the top are amazing, as it's 253 ft above Green Bay. You can see multiple islands from thr vantage point, and there's a good number of educational placards on the ADA ramp and at the top to explain what you're seeing. I then went on the Eagle Trail hike. The trail begins nice and easy, but don't be fooled. I scoffed at the "difficult trail" sign at first, but then I encountered streams, unclearly marked trail sections, tree roots, and washed out areas. All of this is worth it since it rewards you with access to the shoreline and also to the dolomite cliffs with caves. Budget extra time to explore. 5/5 trail! read more

We loved hiking in the park on a warm October day. There are plenty of trails and shoreline to appreciate so wear your hiking boots and put some miles under you. Bikingis another great option. We didn't have time for more but I know there are miles and miles to enjoy. Warning for everyone, especially those with pets; THE TICKS ARE RAMPANT! After we hiked we found dozens on our dogs and just as many on ourselves. be prepared and do a tick check afterward for safety. You need a State Park parking permit to enter. it's not expensive and can be used across the state. Parking is free. read more

Peninsula State Park is frankly amazing. It even has a name that makes sense. I've been here a couple times. It's funny how the same exact spot can seem so different. The main highlights are the Eagle Tower, the campsites, the golf course, and Nicolet Beach. The beach is on the inner (UP) part of Lake Michigan. The beach area also has a camp store with everything including coffee. Plus food trucks (fancy coffee, Mexican, etc.) Fish Creek is only a couple minutes away if you need more things to do or supplies. Nicolet campsite are better than Welckers Point. I recommend doing the southern one with a view of the Lake. Then hiking the Eagle Bluff trail- difficult / dangerous at sections. Only for sure footed people. Then go up the tower. The tower has an ADA ramp and stairs. The eagle bluff lighthouse is okay. There's also other trails good for fall / leaves turning colors. read more

Crowded at Eagle Tower even after Fall Fest but not unpleasant. The tower is a great piece of engineering which you can stroll up or take the stairs up and admire the views at the top of Horseshoe Island. After descent we headed off around the Park seeing glorious trees of yellow and gold. The Eagle Point Lighthouse was lovely as was Nicolet Beach and Tennison Bay where we shed our shoes and socks and braved an icy paddle in Lake Michigan. There were few tourists after we left the Tower which meant virtually no other cars. Hiking Boots make everything easier in Door County. read more

People weren't kidding when they said what a lovely state park this is! I had heard from many that we'd enjoy our camping trip here, and we sure did. We had quite a few people with us on this holiday-weekend trip, so it was lovely that we had such a large campsite. Don't be fooled though, these sites aren't all huge and they book fast/far in advance. Like so far that my mom booked 11 months prior. And lucky she did because we landed in a great spot, tucked back off the main drive, and right on the lake! A few top of mind things to note: much of the campground does not have electric hook ups, which we were prepared for and didn't mind at all. The bathroom/shower are surprisingly decent! New tiled shower rooms and water that runs hot and at high pressure. The staff here clean the shower houses daily at 9am. There is running water available on a camp pump but it didn't taste lovely, so we were sure to bring plenty jugs of our own. Parking is $13/day unless you buy a year-pass for $28. Pets are welcome, but not in certain parts of the park (i.e. the beach). There are lots and lots of trails, great for hiking or bike riding. They wind all around this massive park providing many options in terms of distance and difficulty - something for everyone. The beach is so cute! Not massive, but enough room to host plenty of visitors over the holiday weekend. The water is delightful and clean. The sand is soft and not at all rocky, plus it's fairly shallow far out which is nice. We took out paddle boards out and it was perfection. On top of the hill looking down at the beach sits lots of picnic tables and grass areas to post up at. There's a perfect little camp store as well that has everything you need (or forgot), from sun screen and beach toys, to ice, snacks, flashlights and bug spray. Attached to that is a shop with Door County branded merch, which I of course had to purchase a hoodie. And most importantly, the third business that resides on the beach is the concession stand serving all the usuals, including big ol' cups and cones of soft serve ice cream. This park is great, with truly something for everyone. And it's only a short drive into near by towns if you want to explore shops and other local businesses in Fish Creek, Sister Bay, and Ephraim. read more

Great spot for hiking, biking, taking photos and more. We stayed in nearby Fish Creek and were able to walk into the park on a trail from the home we rented. Driving into the park was a little disappointing. You only get the option of purchasing a one day pass (currently $13) or an annual ($38 I believe) so if you want to come back the next day by car, it's another $13! We also stopped to see the lighthouse but if you can, avoid the bathroom (pit style) toilets here. They are not cleaned daily and probably the worst we have ever seen, or smelled. Disgusting! If you're with your dogs, check out Tennison Bay. Nice rocky beach area to walk along We did not make it back for sunset sadly due to rain but would return for sure, next time we visit. read more

04/17/21 - Awesome state park located just outside Fish Creek WI in Door County. This park has it all. It sits located on the east side of Door County peninsula. You can drive the roads that go around the perimeter allowing visual access to the beauty of the lake. Or you can take any number of roads that go up criss crossing in the interior of the park. You can drive, hike or bike or any combination of the three. We kind of started out driving around the park and at some point we got our and did some hiking on shoreline road viewing the lake from ground level. Later we drove up to the skyline road got out & hiked to see some different views Skyline trail as it may suggest goes up to a higher elevation allowing sweeping panoramic views from above. We also saw 3 eagles including a breeding pair soaring over the lake searching for their next meal. Unfortunately I was unable to get a close up of these majestic creatures as they soared above the lake. There was also a solo bald eagle soaring above looking for its next meal. (Should of called UBER EATS). This park is probably the best park in Wisconsin. There is a $13 dollar fee for non Wisconsin residents. read more

Our first time at this park did not disappoint. The park staff were so friendly and helpful. The drive to the look out tower was gorgeous. The look out tower is very tall, but they have a sloping ramp that isn't too hard to walk up and down if you don't want to take the stairs. Our hike was phenomenal. We hiked Eagle trail. You can use the map to locate the trail head. It's rated as a moderate trail, and it makes sense with all of the rocks and inclines/declines. It's beautiful and with it! With frequent breaks, it took us short of 2 hours. It's a busy park so expect seeing lots of other people. Bring water and a charged phone for those gorgeous pictures! read more

This is a really great state park especially with the addition of the new viewing tower with one awesome ramp. The structure itself is worth seeing especially for engineers. As usual with popular tourist attractions - arrive early in the day to avoid the crowds. After taking in the view from the tower we did the Eagle trail hike which was really a great way to see the rock formation along the lake bluff (hint it is easier to do the walk counter clockwise since the hike back up is more gradual this direction especially if the trail is wet and slippery like when we did this hike). We had a nice picnic at Welker's Point and then stopped to see the lighthouse. Would love to bring our bikes next time since there looks to be some good trails throughout the park. This is THE PARK of Parks in Wisconsin. Located near Fish Creek, Door County, this park has got it all. Walking trails, biking trails, beaches, scenic views, camping (places for both tent camping and RVs or trailers, picnic areas, a light house, and a golf course! It is difficult to explore the entire park in one day. You can drive through it, but you need to get out and explore to sight see and really appreciate the natural world around you. There are so many trails that lead through the forest in the park. If you stop and silence yourself, you might see little woodland creatures and hear multiple species of birds. During my last visit, I saw so many beautiful garter snakes, a couple crazy ground squirrels, and many beautiful birds. The main beach, located on the east side of the park, just north of the golf course, has many amenities including indoor bathrooms. This area IS NOT dog friendly. I did not know this so I couldn't really explore. Golf is not really my thing but I have heard it is a great course. I visit Peninsula State Park every time I venture north to Door County. One could easily get all the necessary steps in for the day while having fun and enjoying Wisconsin :) read more

So many things to do here at a beautiful location. Staff is also considerate, respectful, and helpful. Biking and hiking trails are kept free of limbs. Views from the tower are spectacular. Educational information posted around the park about the environment. Only things that needed attention were the bathrooms. Super popular park, and once you've been here, you'll see why! Biking, hiking, swimming, fishing, golfing, camping, boating, floating, kayaking, the list goes on and on! There are tennis courts hidden away, along with a still-in-use cemetery, a nature center, a Vita course, an Amphitheater! Scenic vistas, a beach, a "secret" road into and out of the park! With 5 campgrounds allowing both tent and R.V camping, PSP is huge! I remember my first visit. It seemed to take FOREVER to get to our campsite! Now that I've camped there a bunch, I know some of the shortcuts to get from point A to point B, and they are equally scenic to the long route. And, fear not, hesitant campers, the campgrounds have both actual showers, and flush toilets, for those of you (like me) who can't stomach pit toilets. I've hiked and biked most of the park, swam at the beach, and stargazed in the middle of the night at a boat launch. I've seen geese, ducks, seagulls, cormorants, pelicans, woodpeckers, songbirds, owls, multiple types of frogs, raccoons, deer, bats. If you're a nature lover, this park is right up your alley. I've been to most of the state parks in Wisconsin, and I would definitely have to say that this one is my favorite. If you haven't made it here, yet, what are you waiting for?!?!? We stopped here during our anniversary celebration and had a great visit here. They rebuilt a sightseeing tower that is a massive structure, the beams used are giant and very cool too see. They have a long ramp that anyone could use and stairs also to get you to the top. We stayed on top taking in the views and pictures to remember. The $13 fee was worth more than we thought it would be. Thank you for helping make our day special. read more

Our last day in Door County and this was my favorite place we visited. We came to Door County in October to see the Autumn foliage and here is where we found it! Autumn in all its glory! It was $13 for a day pass and it was worth it. We are not hikers but we saw some in the park, as well as bikers. We opted to just drive through the park. There were many areas to stop and park. Many beautiful photo ops! It was simply gorgeous! We also liked the stops near the water's edge. The water at this time of the year is dark and turbulent, with powerful waves crashing against the shoreline. There was a lighthouse we stopped by to see. Nothing spectacular. This was a small one in comparison to the Cana Island Lighthouse. Peninsula State Park is definitely a must see in the Fall! read more

Wow! I never knew this place existed and I've been to door County multiple times. This is someplace that should be called Paradise State Park. It is huge with tons of hidden gems to explore. Wow, what a treat. We really only spent time at 2 of the main attractions in this State Park, and it was well worth the $13 vehicle admission fee for an out of state visitor. We saw the modest Eagle Bluff lighthouse and the new Eagle Tower, which sorta just opened on May 19, 2021. We also really enjoyed about 9 miles of driving along the Bayshore loop through the park during this peak week in fall colors. No hiking on this visit, and no camping for us, but there's plenty of it here if you want either. The main attraction here for us and maybe most local folks was the relatively new 60' high Eagle Tower aka Eagle Terrace. It was a magnificent way to enjoy the Green Bay vista as well as the vibrant and beautiful fall colors. We took the steps up and the long and winding but gradual ramp down and it was a delightful attraction and experience. This is a really great Wisconsin State Park and well worth at least one visit, even if just for enjoying the trek and views from Eagle Tower. read more

My friend and I were told this is a place to visit while seeing Door County area. It's $13/day for out of state and $3/day for in state. Minimal parking by the lookout tower but there's more parking lots further down that's not a far walk. We didn't do the trails because we didn't have time but the view from the tower is really pretty! I would come back and do the trails if I had time! read more

For Welkers point campground- Super friendly camp host, showers were truly warm but bathrooms did have bugs and weren't the cleanest. Be sure to bring bottled water, campground water tasted bad. No electrical hookups except at camp host site. Welkers point does have a bat house on the beach, and you can watch hundreds of baby bats go out to hunt shortly after (15- 20 ish minutes) after sunset. Reception is best near peninsula park entrance. Eagle trail Not actually that difficult despite the reviews. Truly beautiful and eagle tower is a must. Be sure to look down while you're walking, lots of roots and rocks. Nicolet bay beach Awesome beach, warmer water than anywhere else on the lake. Located on the Door County Peninsula is another beautiful peninsula--Peninsula State Park--surrounded on 3 sides by the Green Bay shoreline. We first experienced this park during Memorial Day weekend on a trolley ride, and we were so happy to find roads and parking lots next to the main attractions in addition to the hiking and biking trails for beautiful water views. During our visit, we thoroughly enjoyed touring the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse and Keeper's Quarters and walking on the 850-foot ramp up to the 60-foot high Eagle Tower for spectacular views. This newest Eagle Tower was built in 2021 and has 100 steps as another option besides the ramp. The park also has a nature center, Northern Sky amphitheater, camping, sand beach, and 18-hole golf course. The only real restrooms with flush toilets are at the Headquarters and Nicolet Beach, but there are many smelly vault toilets (outhouses that I recommend only for emergencies). Very nice park that we will visit again! read more

Peninsula is a great state park on so many levels! First, the views from bluffs, and tower, can be breathtaking, especially if you can catch a sunset! Next, great trails, both hiking and cycling, get you around the park. Some can be hillier than others, while a few trails are definitely for mountain bikes or sturdier cruisers. Lots of roots and rocks along the way. Ask a ranger for ideas. Finally, the people! Whether just cruising around and chatting with the helpful and (mostly) outgoing and friendly rangers, or stopping at the nature center for some education, or even checking out the history at the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse, they do their best to make your time enjoyable. read more

We were really excited to go camping here for the summer with all the positive reviews. It has great views, and is a large park. I do not recommend camping here at all. There is poison ivy and poison oak everywhere. In your campsite, on the trails, everywhere. Thankfully they do post about it, but I can't imagine how much fun that would be to come in contact with when camping or hiking. When I asked about it being in our actual campsite because it made it where we couldn't use half of our site, they shrugged it off as part of nature, and how they didn't have enough employees. The golf course certainly does have more than enough employees. Very disappointed for this to be a Wisconsin state park. read more

This review is really particular to the new Eagle Tower. Holy buckets. This new tower is absurdly nice. I cannot believe what they were able to get done here. The view is amazing. The tower itself is beautiful (and smells awesome right now!). And the accessibility is such a feather in it's cap. We got to see at least 4 people up there that likely (or absolutely) could not have been up the original structure. I truly hope our state can find the funding to replicate this gem elsewhere for the sake of making these amazing features of our parks open to more of our residents. read more

Beautiful! Some amenities are dated and bathrooms need to be cleaned at some frequency. And personally I like camping with more space between sites. But it's got great trails and a new watchtower. It will always have a special place in my heart and in my memories. read more
