Yummy! Quick and easy with lots of made in house items, the applesauce is sweet goodness, the mashed potatoes are creamy with some hints of potato pieces and all as it should be. Don't order taco salad. It's a puffed up fried flour tortilla with soggy lettuce topped with an overwhelming amount of taco meat covering the thing. No resemblance of a salad at first look. The place was busy, so evidently it is well liked. Waitress was just fine, she was clearly busy. My Bloody Mary was good. Great service and big portions! On our way to the dunes we stopped here for lunch. The restaurant is clean and staff is friendly. We were seated at a booth and given a menu. They had a nice selection of food plus lots of sides to choose from instead of fries. I tried the bbq pork with coleslaw. Sandwich was big with lots of meat. My husband had the perch dinner which he said was delicious. Lots of parking and they serve alcohol. read more

We have been to this restaurant several times and had a delicious meal but today was a totally different story. I had a French dip sandwich. The meat was so dry and tough. The sandwich was so gritty that pieces of meat here , and there. My husband ordered a jalapeno bacon hamburger. She asked how he wanted , and he said , medium rare. It is very obvious they do not know what medium is. The drive waitress was snotty , and said we should have said something. You can't tell me about the cook.Did not know the hammer grow was overcooked. And the french d*** was horrible . They acted like it was no big deal, which is fine?Because i'm in everybody I know about my experience. It was so sad , but didn't bother them. Restaurant is very clean, comfortable, and welcoming. Plenty of seating with room between the tables. Our server Abby was great! Polite and attentive without being bothersome. We ordered the onion rings for an appetizer and they were phenomenal! For main course we ordered the sizzler and coconut shrimp. The shrimp and sides were all great. The sizzler was done to order and tender, although not seasoned well and lacked some flavor. We also ordered strawberry cheesecake and carrot cake for dessert. We didn't expect this to be as good as it was! Situated in a rural area near an orchard and a BP station, this is a comfortable open dining room setting and very friendly service. We started with a full "foot" of onion rings. They have to be the best I've ever had. Huge slices of battered fried onions served with ranch dressing. Delicious! My huge black bean burger was accompanied by local made apple sauce (Mott's doesn't hold a candle to this). My husband had the BLT with slaw. His sandwich was huge and delicious. We were happy with our meal! Here on a getaway. Husband had the Hot Beef, which was huge and made with homemade mashed potatoes. I had the hamburger, which was excellent--nice char and perfectly medium-rare. The onion rings were as good as reported! Half foot was just right for the two of us. Rather disappointed, I've been here before but been awhile and had a good meal. Last night, not so much. Wasn't crowded and was seated right away. Server took awhile to get us drink orders, then took a while to get back to take Food order. Ordered meal and then waited and waited. When salads finally showed, They came at the same time as meal because ..."server was way behind" in her words. Worse was that both meals were lightly warm, closer to cold. Very clean, no dirt or grime anywhere, and nice fireplace. Service was excellent, our waitress was very kind, and so was the two young girls at the cash register, and the other young girl who was cleaning tables and clearing our plates. We stopped here for dinner after some time on the lakeshore. Lots of ample parking (we had trucks and trailers) down by the gas station. Our waitress was delightful. And the food was amazing. Amazing steak!! In from out of town and drove past this place a few times but didn't stop because of the odd location (connected to a gas station), after seeing how popular it was I ended up stopping for dinner which was the best decision ever! My wife & I drove down from Pentwater to sample the local cuisine in Hart. As we took Rt. 35 I noticed that we were in asparagus country, with many fruit orchards. The friday specials included 8/16 oz. Prime Rib or a combo plate with a 6 oz. Lobster Tail. We ordered the beef and the fried asparagus appetizer. The asparagus is really good, with light batter. If your kids like onion rings, this is something the whole family can enjoy. Our prime rib arrived and my 16 oz cut was med-rare. Unfortunately, my wife's smaller cut was the same size but half the thickness. It's very hard to cook a thin piece of meat without overcooking it & hers was medium-ish. Tip#2, get the bigger cut! For an extra $3, its worth it. The salad & baked potato were good and overall we had a very good meal here. read more

Great food! I had the rib eye steak and it was cooked perfectly as ordered and had a great taste. My wife ordered the shrimp and hers was also very good and plentiful. We have driven past this place many times before and one of the locals said to go here as they had many menu options to pick from. Specials today was steak and lobster, smelt, ribeye steak, and coconut shrimp. Everyone in my group was happy with their order and the wait staff was prompt and friendly. My Daughter went there for a Birthday Party celebration and we went for dinner. Th food was excellent! Started out with a Bloody Mary, Huge and spicy just the way we like it. Then we had fried pickles and the Buffalo Soup, that would have been fine for the meal...delicious!! But we order the Rib-eye Steak and the Walleyed fish....again delicious! We had left overs, needless to say. Wonderful dining experience. It was busy, but a very spacious dining-room and bar area. I loved the chatter of the other families enjoying their dinners as well. We frequently get take out from the Open Hearth. Today our food was not edible or even qualified as a meal. Portions for a meal were barley a kids size. We called back and asked for a refund or exchange. The owner was super rude and was making it sound like I was at fault. I had THE MOST unpleasant experience at this restaurant tonight. I called last night to let them know we were planning to come tonight to celebrate a birthday, and I asked if I made a cake would it be okay to bring it to the restaurant. The woman who answered said it would be fine. We ate there tonight and the food was okay. The deep fried foods are hand-dipped, which is nice, The broiled whitefish was just okay. After dinner, I brought out the cake and started to serve it and the waitress said very loudly across the room that I can't serve that here. I explained that I had called last night and was told it would be fine. She said there is a regulation about not serving homemade foods. I said that's fine, I will put it away, but that I had called last night and asked about bringing a homemade cake just to avoid a situation like this. At this point another woman came up, who I was later told is the owner, and so I explained again that I had called last night and was told it would be fine to bring the cake. I actually thought she had come over to help the situation, and I expected her response to be something along the lines of apologizing that I was misinformed and apologizing for the confusion. I was very wrong about that. Instead she came over to tell me that she was there all last night and didn't talk to anyone about a cake. I was surprised at the nasty turn the conversation took. I never expected to be accused of lying about my phone call! I did my due diligence to follow restaurant policy, and thought somebody would want to make sure all employees knew of the policy to avoid future misunderstandings. I was extremely surprised to find out that she is the owner. We love to support local businesses and understand how hard it is to be a small business owner. We always try to be patient and understanding when unexpected situations arise, but I don't see any reason to come back to a restaurant where the owner would accuse me of lying, and especially over something so unimportant. I'd like to think she was Just having an off day and it is not her personality, but I don't need to find out because there are better, friendlier restaurants I can support. read more
