Probably one of the two worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. I ordered the nachos, thinking... this has to be a safe choice for various food. When it came out, the cheese was melted so hard my nachos were one hard chip. The ground beef that was placed on top was under seasoned, minimal amounts, and very dry. We met my sister and brother in law for an early dinner. I had the salmon salad with blue cheese dressing. The rest of the group had fish and chips. Service was very friendly. The beer was good. The meals were good, maybe a tad over priced, but that just seems to be the norm these days. My salad was a nice size but the salmon a bit small, like half a piece. The blue cheese dressing was great and tasted like home made. The fish was good too. The dinner comes with 2 sides. I'd definitely recommend a small salad rather than the cole slaw with the fish dinners. We enjoyed our dinner and will definitely be back! read more

The only good thing about this visit for dinner was the Cream of Asparagus Soup. My husband and I went with 6 other family members. We ordered the Rib Eye Steak, which was on special. Special being $28.99 instead of $29.99. We ordered the steaks rare. They came out medium well. When we told our waitress she went to the cook, came back and told us that was the only way the cook could do it. A $30 steak should be cooked the way the customer wants it and not the only way a cook can manage to handle that. She went back to the cook and then came back to our table wanting the two steaks we had. We gave them to her and she went back to the cook. When she came back she said they would be able to make one steak, but because it was on special that was all they could do and would we be ok with splitting it. Um, no, thank you. I ordered the Ahi Tuna and had them make the steak for hubby. After all the rest of our group were done with their dinner our replacement food finally came out. My Ahi Tuna was overdone, but I didn't complain after what happened with the steak. I also did not get any sides with the Tuna, which was fine because I had the sides with the steak. Hubby's steak was overdone on one end and cooked correctly on the other. Not even sure how that's possible unless the steak was partially frozen when put on the grill. The server then said she wanted to credit us for the 3 soups and not to worry the math all works out. Our bills were divided into 3 people on one, two people on one, two people on one and a single person on another. The three soups were on 3 separate tickets. So two other groups got free soup and our bill came out with THREE dinners charged on it. When we told her that was unacceptable, that we didn't eat 3 dinners and she took our overcooked steaks she had the audacity to ask us if we were just there for a free meal. It was insulting! Our response was that we just wanted to pay for the food we actually ate. She finally came back with the bill for the Rib Eye and the Tuna and told us she hoped we would come back. This restaurant was recommended by a local as having the best perch dinner. The perch were good, but the sides were a miss. I ordered their small red potatoes and some were still raw in the center, and the rest wrinkled and old tasting. I asked for mashed potatoes instead and although much better they came to me cold. When we asked for the bill, the waitress said she had given our tab to the previous guest and it couldn't be undone. She asked them (I overheard her) - and us - to pay with cash, not a credit card, after we had finished our meals. It felt like an ambush. She acted like it was an ordeal to give change and went to the bar to get it, even though she was carrying a wad of cash in her folder. Something's very fishy here. As for the food, avoid the "fancier" dishes. It's a bar. Our deep fried asparagus was not crispy at all. They were droopy and the soft breading was way too thick. I ordered the bourbon salmon, which had no bourbon whatsoever, was overly sweet, and was seriously overcooked. Ironically, the baked apples were undercooked and were crunchy, not soft. My husband had the broasted chicken, which was tender inside and crispy outside, like it should be, but it hadn't been seasoned at all. Altogether, not great. Never coming back. read more

After an hour of waiting for our food without the offer of a refill on our beverages from our server, the manager was defensive and rude when we asked for our check and for our food order to be cancelled. Other tables and take-out orders who came in after we ordered were served while we waited for a relatively simple order of nachos and quesadillas. My family, friends, and I have come here a few times each summer for almost 20 years, and, unfortunately, we rarely experience prompt, polite service. We've tried to overlook this, however, the unfriendly response of management to the issue is uncalled for - a simple polite response would have done wonders to improve the experience and kept us coming back, regardless of slow service. read more

So I've been coming to Stony Lake since I was a child but I'd never gone here before. It's really an unassuming building that looks plain from the outside. On the inside, it looks like a normal bar with tables for customers to have lunch, but there is another room which they may use for receptions or parties. They have a daily special for each day of the week, at a dollar off the price. My club sandwich was surprisingly big (and had 3 layers!), and my boyfriend's french dip was giant and melty. I think the only issue is that they're a little bit understaffed when it's busy. Otherwise, this is a great place for lunch. read more

One of those places that you just wouldn't expect such an awesome perch dinner! The perch were lightly breaded, flash fried to perfection and ten pieces. The quality of the perch compares to some very high end restaurants I have eaten at and at a price that you can't beat. Everyone was very nice a service was very good. They were busy so it took a little bit for the dinner but it was fresh and hot. We had four plates and all were done exactly the same. Steak fries were crips, good tartar and salad bar was good. We had a great dining experience last night! Brayden, the bartender/server, was absolutely amazing. Not only was he quick, efficient, & friendly, but he even entertained our 6 year old son! This is basically the only bar around Stony Lake, near New Era, Michigan. They sell fried bar food, like fried mushrooms, fried cauliflower, fried potatoes, burgers and fried fish. It's claim to fame is that the Whippy Dip ice cream shop near Silver Lake had a polaroid photo of George Wendt (Norm from Cheers) in the window of the Whippy Dip and he was wearing a Stony Lake Yacht Club T-Shirt. A similar photo of Wendt hangs in the foyer of the Second City in Chicago, wearing said shirt. read more

Wow, one of the worst services I've ever seen in a lot of years. No one helped us we got our own menu, asked a bus person if there's away to get some burgers--nothing! Finally after 30 minuets we walked out and had wonderful burgers and service at the Brown Bear in Shelby. I would do negative 5stars if it existed. read more

New years eve dinner was very good this year. We had a party of 15. Drinks were good and the meals were very good. My husband had the steak and shrimp special and I had the 1/2 rack of ribs. The salad bar was fresh and tasty. We had several salad dressings to chose from. I had the apple cider vingarette and I would like the recipe it was so yummy. There was a decent crowd in there eating but it was not full. We had to eat at 2 different tables to accommodate all 15 of us. I think they could have made one large table for us. But they didn't volunteer to move the tables, I thought they could have . It's a great place to eat but they are very casual in their presentation. So 4 ! read more

Or, "Sorry it is taking so long". Not even eye contact. We left after 16 minutes. What a slap in the face. I will never go back. I believe, and was treated, since we were not one of the locals. We were not acknowledged, to be served. They just blew us off. If you are from out of town, do not even waste your time going there. I eat out 13 times a week, I travel, (no, I am not a truck driver). All over the country, for over 31 years. I have never walked out of a restaurant or been treated so bad in my 31 years traveling. This is a great place. A local bar with great food and service. The steaks are angus beef and high quality, very tasty and tender pork chops and beer on tap. There is a full bar. The building is unassuming and small it sits right on the lake and is a favorite of locals. Don't be surprised when a guest walks in and addresses the staff by name. Stop in for dinner after a local produce market owner suggested it on Mothers Day. There was only two tables plus us. After waiting 10 minutes for someone to take our drink order and bring us menus my husband got up thinking that maybe they didn't see us come in. He said ok is there just the 2 of you? We waited another 10 minutes and 2 servers came out, one to check on the one table to get there payment and see if they need boxes while the other server went to second table to see if they needed refills never even looking in our direction. We figured they must be making all the money they needed for the night so we left. read more

If you don't have anything to do for 2 1/2 hours then this is the place for you. We ordered at about 6:15 and didn't get food until 8:30. The waitress only checked on our table once and said she'd be back with refills. She never came back and never once explained why we were waiting for 2 hours. It was moderately busy when we first arrived but then died down. She finally did come back and said our food will be out soon but she understands if we want to leave. She should've said that an hour ago! At least she said the beers were on her. I don't get why it took so long but I waited because i was hungry and tired after being at the beach all day so I guess it was nice to sit for so long. The food was Okay... but then we never got our checks. We had to ask two other workers for our checks and one of them said "yeah your waitress is kind of.." and motioned that she was crazy. We finally got out of there and now my stomach slightly hurts. So that's my yelp review of this place and I will not be returning ever. read more
