Had a very okay meal here. it says a lot that there isn't much open out here in the off season and I don't want to go back.

I visited The Golden Eatery recently and had one of the worst customer-service experiences I've ever had in a restaurant. Our group was polite, seated normally, and just trying to order breakfast. Despite that, the staff treated several people in our group with open hostility. Questions were met with irritation, curt responses, and visible annoyance. At one point staff raised their voices at members of our party for no reason other than asking basic menu questions. The atmosphere immediately shifted from "small town diner" to "you're not welcome here," and the way they singled out members of our group was so unnecessarily confrontational that it made everyone uncomfortable. We hadn't done anything to cause a problem--yet we were spoken to rudely, stared down, and made to feel like we needed to leave. The experience was nearly identical to what other customers have described publicly. Food matters, but how you treat people matters more. Based on the way we were spoken to and the unprovoked hostility toward our group, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. After such a bad experience i researched this location and the owner is allegedly paying minors under the table to work for them in such a hostile environment. read more

While on vacation in Silver Lake, I decided to get breakfast at The Golden Eatery. The restaurant is small with about 15-20 tables and a small bar by the register. The wait for table wasn't long. The waitress was nice but rather rushed. I ordered an omelette, hash-browns, rye toast and a cup of Chicken Dumpling soup. The soup came out and had no dumplings, the carrots and onion were raw. It also had what tasted like precooked frozen chicken strips in it that gave it a weird flavor. I didn't eat more than 3 bites. The omelette was still watery, and the cheese was covering it but was barely melted. It was not appetizing at all. The hash-browns were not fully cooked. The only good part was the rye toast. Overall, it was a poor experience and I wouldn't go back. read more

The service here is awful, unless you're one of their good ol boy regulars. The food sucks too; Dennys puts this place to shame. The owner, April, works as a waitress here and won't hesitate to make you feel unwelcome. It was bizarre watching her go from nice and warm with some customers, then switch to cold and insulting to others. Like drugs or bipolar disorder type of behavior. Maybe both. This is a nice, small cafe. We stop in several times while we are in the area. We always go for breakfast. Good basic choices. Service is good, polite and we are checked on frequently. Prices are reasonable. Portions are large. read more

Small mom and pop place that has that small town atmosphere. Breakfast was great, had a veggie omelet that was delicious. You could tell the veggies that were in it were fresh. Toast was bakery fresh and the coffee was standard. Service was efficient, I wouldn't say personable, but we got our food and drinks in a timely manner. The most unprofessional, anti-kid, restaurant we have ever stepped foot in. It is an absolute disgrace that these people operate their business the way they do. This morning, our group of 9 (5 young children under the age of 7) walked in to enjoy a nice breakfast for the second morning in a row. We had been to the restaurant the day before and did not encounter any issues with any employees. The service was good and we enjoyed our meal. But what we experienced today was mind blowing. As we were waiting for our food, one of the waitresses (not even ours), who we find out is the OWNER of this business, came out of the back kitchen and shouted super loud in front of the whole restaurant, directed at our group, "ALRIGHT, THAT'S ENOUGH!" and walked right back into the kitchen. We were stunned. We were mind-boggled. What BUSINESS OWNER speaks this way to a customer? Let alone shouting it for the entire restaurant to hear. When she came back out, we let her know that was very rude and we didn't appreciate that. She didn't care, nor did she apologize. She had zero ounce of regret. She actually began a verbal altercation with us. She began shouting how we are "horrible parents, told us raise your kids better," and "if they were my kids I'd take them in the back and spank them." This lady is out of her mind. Our kids were well-behaved. They were SEATED the entire time. They were not screaming. They were not yelling. They were not going to other tables intentionally interrupting other customers' breakfast. All I can think of is one of our kids accidentally spilled their cup of milk on the floor, in which I actually cleaned up all by myself, with no help from our waiter or any other employee there. And that our 1.5 year old may have been getting a little noisy as he was hungry, just as any other toddler would act. We pulled out all the reinforcements. We weren't just allowing our child to be noisy. He is 1.5 years old!!!!! Any parent with a toddler knows that at this age, they sort of lack self-control. Geeze! The employees won't give out their WiFi password and the cell service does not work so turning on a cartoon wasn't an option. Perhaps because this is a tiny place, my toddler was too overstimulating to this disgustingly rude human being that she had to shout at us and our young children in front of the entire restaurant. If you are a decent human being, or care about your job at all, she should have discreetly approached us and asked us to kindly keep it down. We decided to leave, leaving feeling horrible and with no food. The owner kept making her remarks and we held our stance. To make matters worse, most of the customers there were in the 60+ range, and a couple came up and backed up the rude owner, telling us to leave. She called one of the adults in our group a "BITC%#" right to her face. WOW. How can you treat a family with young children this way? We have never experienced service this horrible nor a person this blatantly rude at a public restaurant. If you can't handle children or noise, find another line of work! This place may as well have "NO KIDS ALLOWED" on their front door. If you have young children, AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. Spare yourself the bullying and harassment. read more

I stopped by for a quick bite. I was hungry and I wasn't going to be picky. The restaurant was clean and was not busy. I ordered the burger special with fries. It was cheap inexpensive so I wasn't expecting much. It was actually pretty good. The fries were excellent; hot and crunchy. The coffee was also good. The waitstaff was polite and courteous. I don't know when these unsatisfied people came here but this little place has been running for years. Don't expect big city service, Waite your turn and relax. Don't expect eggs Florentine, but your going to get a darn good serving at a darn good price. Today was the first time I had been there since the last owner closed. This is a nice restaurant with local color and a good food. The waitresses could not possible been nicer and our food was delivered promptly. Great eggs and sausage and a pancake as big as a dinner plate. I'm going back tomorrow for the perch Friday dinner. A great little town and a great little restaurant. read more

0 stars is more like it. I can't believe a place like this exists in 2023. The owner, April Wolfe was so rude to my family. She acted bothered to be there or pissed for no reason. Could be the empty water bottle I had with me, looking for a trash can. She came right over. You can't have outside food in here. I said, it's empty, I didn't see the trash can and handed it to her....that must have but ignated Bitch mode! This continued onto her daughter, the waitress because I found hair in my food. She got short. I knew they felt confident in the number of family they had working there! I tried to deal but then they cut the TV off my daughter was watching. Had kids meal but no plastic forks to accommodate small hands. When i asked waitress, April yelled, no we are not doing that, nope.... From the counter up-front. As she kept her head in her laptop. Tension filled the air...we were the only ones left in restaurant. I know they have a to go fork set. Her. I didn't feel safe at all. Sit at the bar & you don't have to wait (otherwise there was a bit of a wait on Sunday morning). The service is a little brusque, but at around $6 a person, I'm not looking for top flight service. Eggs over easy were tender & delicious with runny yolks, hash browns were crispy-crunchy and scalding hot, straight from the skillet. Also, they have Texas toast and it's delicious. Wow...wish I had the reviews before going to this.....restaurant? I am shocked that so many reviews say the same thing about the service. How do you consider if the food is good when the people that must have contact with customers are off the charts ignorant. I have to believe that the waitress who would have been ours (had we stayed) owns a stake in that restaurant. If she wasn't, an owner that cared about the business would have sent her packing long ago. The foul mouth (Yes Hugh, we got the expletives as well) and the challenge that we could leave (Waitress stares you down and says "Shi* Happens" ) speaks volumes. They must feel that they have a captive clientele based on their location. Maybe they do and that is why they feel can provide such poor service. Today is St. Patrick's Day so we thought we would try the Golden Eatery for a Corned beef and cabbage meal. We had tried their fish frys a few weeks ago and loved it all. Well today's meal was very disappointing for sure. I felt like I ordered the diet plate. The piece of corned beef was about 2 ounces the cabbage could not have been much more than a quarter cupful, the potatoes were big and the carrots were 3 tiny pieces. Seriously was this the portion for the Irish Famine? I will stick to the fish frys. If it wasn't for the great dessert the meal would have been a flop...not doing the Irish jig over this meal. read more
