I found myself laughing a lot during the show last night. There were a number of puns, something that I like. Example--the space ship is helmed by Captain Ann Tennille. Also, wherever you may travel, you're never far from Uranus! Sophomoric humor, yes, but it made me laugh. The theatre opens at 7:30 and you're directed to one of two bars depending on where your seat is. The house opens about 7:45 so you have time to get a drink and take it in with you or finish beforehand. Drinkers choice. I'm glad I don't drink because the prices are $18 for small and $24 for large. They have given them names to go along with the space theme of the show. The theatre is an intimate, semi-circular affair with no seats being too far from the action. The folding chairs are not the most comfortable things going but I wasn't going to pay for the high price seats or the booth seating. The show takes place as you travel from Uranus to Las Vegas. On the way, there's a goofy mix of singing, some acts such as juggling, a cast member working with hula hoops, and some audience participation. The show is "small" in nature. It's not meant to be Cirque-like nor like it's older sibling Absinthe. It's not fair to try to compare them. Like other Spiegelworld productions, every attempt is made to shock, amuse, and maybe even offend the audience. There was one act at the end of which almost everyone was either laughing or crying out "ewwww" or both. I won't say anymore so I don't spoil it for others. I do like the intimate nature of the theatre with its small stage and circular way of bringing in actors for their parts. The actors also use the aisles for entrances and exits. There is some audience participation and it's funny and harmless. If you're in a mood for some silly humor and some good music from the singer and the five piece band, go see this. This is a definitely worth seeing show but if you're looking for Cirque de Soleil caliber acrobats you might be disappointed. Opium is more about a sort of raunchy adult experience (sometimes tries too hard to be racy and ends up coming off a little silly) where the acrobatics are somewhat secondary to the over all presentation. Highlights included the toned sexy muscular girl who flung around a large balloon like ball attached to her head, eventually absorbing the balloon until she was almost entirely inside it, and the double jointed contortionist who passed his entire body through two tennis racket frames (saw a similar show on Fremont Street downtown but we think the downtown Vegas street show involved tennis rackets that expanded a tad (were flexible) while the Opium act was legitimate). Each actor was good at what he or she did - even if, for example with the ditsy blonde, was just taking her clothes off. Apparently Opium rotates its actors based on who is available that night, so you might watch it one night and see something different from another time. There is audience participation right from the start from a slutty actor who rubs and grinds herself against select male audience members, and later brings someone on stage for a comedy sort of modern pantomime act. (She too ends up taking some of her clothes off.) Throughout the show we kept smelling what smelled like bits of newspaper that had been lit on fire then snuffed out, and we never figured out if it was from the audience or something to do with the show's special effects. Be careful of where you place your drink (expensive drinks in plastic goblets available only at show's start) - someone placed one right behind her neck on a little ledge and when I reached around to put my arm around her it knocked the drink to the ground. I tried to hand some money to the guy whose drink I had knocked down after the show ended, but he politely refused. Come to Opium to settle in for an unusual experience. Turn your brain off and don't expect too much and you'll be pleasantly entertained. read more

Raunchy, immature, things that make you go ewww! - I loved it! Sometimes you need a bit of wacky in your life. Reminiscent of the bad sci fi movies i would watch on the weekends growing up. Throw in a bit of sex, variety show acts and just pure silliness...Oh and a puppy! If you need alcohol to loosen up, grab a drink at the bar. I had a premade drink in a bag called Kiss my Asteroid...it was actually pretty good plus it comes with Pop Rocks! You have to travel through space to get to the bathroom so be sure to go before the show. The front of stage, 1st row, and last 2 rows are probably the best seats. Otherwise its kind of hard to see. I can honestly say this show is not for everyone. But if you do go, try to find a code for discounted tickets. Enjoy your trip! read more

Unknowingly came to opening night of OPIUM! I was initially attracted to this show because it's by the creators of ABSINTHE. I haven't seen ABSINTHE, but I was hoping OPIUM would be just as fun and interactive as what I heard about ABSINTHE! So many thoughts went through my mind as I was watching.... Bought tickets last minute to this show back in April because we had dinner reservations at Superfrico inside the Cosmopolitan before the showtime. Honestly didn't know what to expect of it given this was my first ever show at Vegas. We got front row seats which gave us an amazing view of everything. The performers are super interactive with the crowd. All the acts were pretty great .My favorite was the gentleman with the blowing of the bubbles. I've never laughed so hard in my life. It is a little raunchy so if that's not really your taste then this might not be the show for you. Would most likely see again if I'm ever in Vegas again. read more

So... did I think this show was perfect? Absolutely not. However, I don't think it deserves some the heinous reviews I've seen for it here. If you're thinking about seeing this show, please keep in mind that the show is supposed to be campy. The whole point is the throwback to a cheesy kind of shtick and if you like that kind of thing, then you will like and appreciate this show but if you do not, you will hate it. Here are the good parts: 1) The humor. Yes, it's overtly sexual (boobs out and all) but if you're listening you'll catch some real funny ones. There are quite a few "laugh out loud" moments. 2) The mustached juggler. They need to highlight him WAY more. He could actually host this whole gig, he's that great. 3) Hula Hoop guy. You would not expect this. Not at all. 4) The venue. It's intimate and the stage is pretty cool, moving up and down. Also, the stage is hilarious. Take a close look at the "computer," it's filled with memorabilia and nostalgia. I mean there's a Simon up there!!! 5) The band. Nice addition to have a live band play the music for the show. Bad parts: 1) The variety. There is not enough variety. I noticed this mentioned a lot. I agree there needs to be less talking and more variety acts. 2) The kind of variety. There is a girl that dances in a balloon. She's great. Why didn't she get more stage time? And although I do appreciate the humor in this show, I'd rather not spent too much time on people spitting bananas at each other. Whoops, I'm a few months late in posting this review. This was our first show in Vegas and it still sticks with me due to the debate that my friends and I had after the show about one of the acts. Definitely not for the people who offend easily, this is a fun, fairly sexual and obscene show that kept us laughing throughout (except for one scene). The acts were quite talented - we especially enjoyed the woman dancing with and inside the giant balloon ball. Drinks, like the rest of Vegas, were quite expensive, but also quite large. When we foolishly asked for tap water which they didn't have, the bartender took pity and gave us some tiny bottled water and popcorn, wishing us a happy first visit to Vegas. Great service! *Potential spoiler below* The one thing that made us uncomfortable was when a pregnant woman was brought up onto the stage by a the "male" performer. The woman said she wanted to leave after some time, but didn't, and the performer didn't escort her down, leaving the audience feeling awkward, wondering if we were watching a plant or a real woman experiencing a moment of distress. Half the audience went wild and seemed to be okay with the whole experience once the "man" turned out to be a woman, but this particular scene just left a weird taste in our mouths. I prefer to think that the whole scene was orchestrated as a piece of performance art - in that case it achieved what art should do - to make us feel something and debate real issues in society. Overall, a good show, but don't go if you get uncomfortable with politically or sexually inappropriate jokes! read more

If you're looking for a show with crude humor and exceptional talent this is a must see show. I love raunchy productions and this nailed it. Opium is an amazing show! It's tough to review because it's something to experience, and telling too much detail would spoil the fun. I can say that it has a space theme, and is very adult in the nature of the performances and humor. I found it extremely entertaining, and he performers are all very talented. There is an adjacent cash bar that serves drinks and popcorn. You may bring them into the seating area. The seats are folding chairs that are zip tied together. Works well for the average person, but we warned, larger individuals will not find this comfortable. I highly recommend this show - but it's not for the easily offended, or prudish people. What an interesting show at the cosmopolitan!! Cosmopolitan hooked me up with 2 tickets and I'm glad they did! I showed up at the show having zero expectations but wow it was such a gooood show and I left very pleased. The venue is small, but that's the best part. It made me feel like I was part of the show. The show was entertaining enough but had the production value of my kid's high school play. For two people, I was into this for almost $350 (that's just tickets...not concessions) but I walked away thinking it should have been, at most, $40 each. Having seen their other show, Absinthe, I had high hopes because it was so much fun. I think the people that give this show 1 and 2 stars live a boring life and just truly does not know what entertainment is. Entertainment is about variety and expressing yourself through various art forms. 1 and 2 starrers (if that was a word), get a life. We went to this show on Monday, October 14 for the 8pm showing. We were seated right in the front, and it was just excellent. The comedy was great and yes some of it was middle or high school humor. That is what makes it great. So many awesome acts -- bubbles, latex ballons, swords, acrobatics, hula hoops, etc. I am told that they often do different acts on different nights. This 90 minute non-stop action packed show should not allow you to fall asleep, look at your phone or become bored. I would say that most people will definitely enjoy it. 1st rate cast! read more

You really can't tell what Opium is about or what your experience will be solely based on watching the promo video. It's a "trip" through outer space filled with laughs, raunchy jokes, some nudity, and a variety of performances involving acrobatics, dogs and bubbles. I don't want to ruin it for you, you just have to see it for yourself. I've never laughed, hooted and hollered so much during a show. On to the details, the theater is relatively small so there's technically not a "bad" seat although I would suggest sitting in the sections that fan out instead of seats 1-6 or 50-59 because you will be watching everything from the side. We got lucky because the performance wasn't full, so they moved us from our seats on the side to front and center seats. If you sit in front, you will most likely become a part of the performance or at least get picked on so be prepared. They have a live band which was a fun detail, and it seemed like every performer was really having a good time with it. They have a bar with a variety of fun show-themed drinks that come in bags with a straw inside a commemorative cup. I selected the Kiss My Asteroid that even came with a bag of pop rocks on the side. I will say that the show is definitely weird and funky, so if you're not into that then don't expect to love it as much as I did. read more

For people who have been to Absinthe, it's the same format - but a bit lighter and more playful in all respects. The acrobatics are less intense than absinthe, the humor is more playful and less biting. The music curation is over the moon and the performers are entertaining. Sorry for not posting pictures. Hubs got offered tickets to a special 10pm Wednesday night show and I'm soooo glad we went! We had cocktails in The Study prior. The ushers and ticket staff were very nice! I ordered a Sputnik large drink and it came in the cutest black cup. It tasted like a sweet "blue" version Moscow Mule. The bartender was very nice. The bottle water that I bought was Fiji which is my favorite! I am not going to ruin the show, by telling you about the show. I will say that if you are easily offended, this is not the show for you. I've been wanting to see this show now for awhile so when I found out my friend got comped tickets I was 100% down. It definitely caters to a certain type of humor so if it's not everyone's cup of tea I get it. The theater is located on the second floor of the Cosmo next to the Wicked Spoon buffet towards the Chelsea side. It's pretty small inside so any seat is a good seat honestly. The drinks are expensive. (Surprise, surprise) It's the strip. Expect to pay around $15-20 for any drink you're buying at a show/club. They drinks are really good though. I had the Kiss My Asteroid which featured edible bubbles and a side of pop rocks. Very tasty! I'd say get a decent buzz going before you come, but get one drink just for the flavor. Overall a great show, super funny. I laughed out loud multiple times & enjoyed it thoroughly. A great date night idea or bachelorette outing. read more

Opium is an absolute masterpiece. It is hilarious, with amazing performers, crazy costumes, and so much talent! You are literally transported to a crazy spaceship ride.... I can't get enough of Opium. I originally heard about it as a big fan of Absinthe (same creators) and now it's been 3 times and counting, and still hasn't gotten old. Best to come in with an open mind and shed any sort of expectations or inhibitions. You'll be surprised that as raunchy and offensive some parts can be, it's all in the spirit of entertainment and the acts you will view are just that...fully entertaining. The crowd is always a great mix, and I've yet to see anyone's interest waning at any point of the show. This is my kind of show: I love that it's more informal in the sense that it is very intimate and isn't stiffly structured. It moves at a great pace and really does capture the audience's attention, regardless of each individual attention span (or level of alcohol consumption!) Run time is just right at 80 minutes. The cast does get interactive with the audience and there is some off-kilter humor but that's what makes Opium so unique. Without giving away too much of the show, just know all the acts are amazing, from the musical/dance performances to the contortionists and other surprises. Each time I've attended, there have been slight adjustments/new additions to the list of acts, which keeps things interesting, AND keeps me coming back to see this rotating roster of talent. ALL seats are great at this venue (just know you'll definitely get singled out if you sit in the front row, which is fun/hilarious if you're up for it), and there are 2 bars so minimal congestion. The drinks are as unique and entertaining as the show itself. Do yourself a favor and check the show out especially if you're staying at the Cosmo. There really is nothing like it. read more

This commentary is on the show "Opium" performing at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas--and I'll save you time and money: Go see "Absinthe" at Caesar's Palace. The shows "Absinthe" @ Caesars Palace Las Vegas and "Opium" @ The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas are both produced by Spiegelworld. Because of this, I went to see Opium with expectations--which were not met. Spiegelworld is trying to replicate their success with Absinthe; and while there were two individual acts which I really enjoyed, the quality of the ensemble (as a whole) just aren't up to snuff, as compared to Absinthe. I have seen Absinthe twice, and I enjoyed both attendances of that show immensely. So I find it sad that the same producer would release two products of such divergent quality. read more

Opium ain't your typical Carpenter's Christmas concert, which made me love it even more! This time of year is full of saccharinely sweet sentiments onstage -- everything from Lifetime movies to children's choirs. Mariah Carey just corralled 50 of her fave fans and took them around Las Vegas in a bus, singing carols. Even worse? Church! Thankfully, Opium is adults-only and playing beyond the holidays. I saw Absinthe at Caesar's back in 2011, back when they had a flimsier (but cooler) tent. And as a kid I loved watching Mystery Science Theater 3000. So as you can imagine, Opium was the second on our Las Vegas holiday 2018 to do list. Right after spending some quality time with family. Come on, even a heathen likes to see familial faces once a year. Plus, those people you're related to will drive you just nuts enough to drink and laugh just a liiiiiitle bit more. What I particularly enjoyed about Opium: + The theater, which is intimate but still feels janky enough to where someone *might* fall out of their chair or one of the performers could fall into your lap and tweak/poke/grind as they like. + Live band + The "spit" flung my way by the sword swallower was quite viscous. + Such perky, natural boobs from the ladies in the performance. You don't get to see real ones like that everyday. Unless you're me and you're looking in a mirror. + Never have I ever seen bubble work like that before. + Anytime a teeny tiny shaking chihuahua can be involved in an act, bring it on! It's definitely a bit of Rocky Horror mixed with Porky's and I loved every minute of it! The 12 oz of chardonnay certainly helped (you don't have to order the signature drinks, people), but I'm 78% sure I would've given it 5-stars had I not been buzzed. read more

Every trip to Vegas I make sure to catch at least one show, and this time I wanted to see Opium. I was hesitant at first because I saw Absinthe two or three years ago and absolutely HATED it. They made fun of people's insecurities in the audience (I saw one lady leave early because they made fun of her weight and how she wasn't, ahem, do-able) and one of the tightrope acts went wrong. Absinthe was the only Vegas show I regretted seeing after. So, having known that this was created by the same people, I was nervous to say the least. I lined up at 9:30, 30 minutes before showtime, and there already was a long line. Some people were drunk, others high, some were just ready to have a good time. It was a fun group of people and staff got through the line quickly. When you first enter, you're thrown in to some kind of black light room complete with an alien in a restaurant booth and unique pieces hanging from the ceiling. After walking through, you're in an intimate theater setting, with a bar on each side of the stage. This is a SMALL theater. If you've been to Absinthe, it's even smaller than that. Every seat here is a great seat. The drink menu is limited and they are quite pricy. Smalls are $18, larges are $25 and popcorn is $8. I ordered a large Kiss My Asteroid and absolutely loved it. I don't get drunk easy, and this definitely gets you buzzed. For the show itself, the cast was memorable. They interact with the audience in a playful way, find ways to include everyone in the show, and overall makes it a one-of-a-kind-experience. Acts you wouldn't expect to love like hula hooping become the acts you smile the most for and the live band playing 80s favorites is the cherry on top. Every single performer isn't just great at their talent, but they're equally fantastic at being loveable. There wasn't a single act that didn't contribute to the show being amazing. The only and I mean *only* thing I'd suggest as a negative, is there's one scene when the awesome sword swallower takes three swords out of his mouth. There was a lot of spit on them and he proceeded to whip the spit-filled swords across the audience. Unfortunately for my bad luck, a huge wad of his spit went into my half-full $25 drink. So...unless you're down for drinking a drink with a strangers spit in it...guard your drink during that segment. The crowd was full of all ages and all groups (couples, bachelor parties, girls nights...there even was a guy in his 20s who attended with his grandma). If you're down for fun, you'll fit right on in at Opium. If you're in Vegas, make sure you get tickets to catch this show. Coming in I knew I had to bring my expectations down a little bit as to not compare it to Absinthe -which by the way is the best show in Vegas! Still, I had a lot of hope with the show as it is made by the production company, Spiegelworld. Same concept..raunchy comedy and unique performances. The stage turns so everyone gets the same view. While this show doesn't give you the suspense, it is still very entertaining and leaves you with a wow how did they do that? OPIUM is a great show, it was perfectly paced with fun acts, cute dancing, and a few surprises. Before you get to your seat, grab a specialty drink from the bar (if you want a regular drink, they have those too!). We sampled a jello shot - nothing new - and the Kiss My Asteroid. The drink was pretty fun; the taste was peachy with some champagne, came with popping boba on the bottom (and the big straw so you could drink them), and a side of pop rocks. The bartender warned not to put all of the pop rocks in at the same time, I guess you shouldn't either. The theater is quite small, but there is enough room for everyone to have a great view of all the action. Beware, if you are near the front or on the edge there are audience participation moments throughout the show. The cast didn't discriminate; men, women, young, old, etc. everyone had a moment during the show. Lastly, I would skip the show if you're easily offended. The show has great friendly moments, but there are many over-the-top sexual situations. There were so many fun acts, I don't think I can pick one; I think you'll feel the same way. read more

Everything about this show was a win for me. The theater was small and intimate, the drinks were strong and well priced, and the show was just so entertaining. First things first, if you have no sense of humor this is not the show for you. The show is filled with crude sexual jokes, some slight nudity, and even some gross bits. We had a few people walk out by us, so it's something you need to be prepared for. If you're okay with all of that, then you'll love it. I loved the fact that they pull you in with the characters right as you walk in. I 100% believed that I was taking a flight to Uranus, and I couldn't wait to get there. Every single character was hilarious I was so intrigued with what else was going to come out of their mouth. Besides the jokes, there were truly some great acts. I was happy to see there were some acts I recognized from AGT, and some new acts I've never seen before (like a guy doing some amazing things with bubbles). I have been to see this show 3 times now. First time when was it first opened and since they definitely have switched things up. Now if you don't have a sense of humor or if crude humor, then this isn't the show for you! But if sexual content and crude humor doesn't offend I definitely recommend. It is so much better when the audience is willing to join in and have fun. I must admit that the first time I seen the show I wasn't the biggest fan, but I have now seen it two more time since and I absolutely love it! The cast are hilarious and talented. I definitely recommend checking this show out if your looking for comedy and some great acts. I know I will be back!!! read more

OPIUM Okay, PSA for all the Vegas residents or those who would visit Vegas. The show Opium at the Cosmopolitan is terrible. Absinthe (the sister show) is pretty good and I have seen it sevaral times. Opium tickets were 170 apiece, drinks at Superfrica next door were 20 bucks apiece (mediocer and without tip), drinks at the venue were at the same price. It cost us 15 bucks to park for the casino. So, the whole thing was about 500 bucks. If you've read this far -- the show was not that good. The jokes were simple, contrived with over-emphasis on gay humor (I am not a homo-phobe - I just don't think just being gay alone is side-splitting funny). I hope this saves you 500 bucks. read more
